YOU ARE A REGULAR GUY, YOU CAN ENTER A SPACE. YOU ARE A REGULAR GUY, YOU CAN ENTER A ROOM. YOU ARE A REGULAR GUY, YOU CAN DO THAT TRANSACTION. YOU ARE A REGULAR GUY, YOU KNOW HOW TO USE THE PHONE. YOU ARE A REGULAR GUY, YOU KNOW WHAT SLEEP IS. YOU ARE A REGULAR GUY, YOU KNOW HOW TO WAKE UP. YOU ARE A REGULAR GUY, YOU KNOW HOW TO MOVE THROUGH SPACE. YOU ARE A REGULAR GUY, YOU KNOW WHAT IT MEANS TO BE YOU.

Robert Cooper

When no one knows who Ronnie James Dio is, I have never wanted to use the word whippersnapper more. I don't think I ever realized this movie didn't do well. I didn't see it in the theater, but I feel like the three singles off the soundtrack were in regular radio rotation for a year.

Mike FromOz

This is not the greatest movie in the world... this is just a Cinebinge reaction! OR We are but Cinebingers! ROCK! AhhhHHHAAAHhhhHAHHHH!!!

s0rd3z

"With Leonard Nemoy kicking out the jams....Aaah!"

Mastervodo

Thank you so much for explaining this.

Tera

Happy to be of service

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Straight up one of my favourite rock comedies ever haha. Terrific songs and big laughs. Also Jack Black’s early break was arguably in “High Fidelity.” He’s in true scene-stealing form alongside John Cusack. Very much in the Top 5 movies to check out - IYKYK 😉

Jeff K.

Haven't seen this movie since the theater, and the only thing I recall from that experience was walking out thinking, "...what the fuck did I just watch?" Even as a fan of the D, perhaps my brain just wasn't quite ready to receive it at that stage of my life. Time to give it another go.

Die Vernon

Dave Grohl is the Devil in this haha

Mike W

The late, great Ronnie James Dio. Showing my age but he was one of the greatest rock/metal singers ever

MeetMountain

Was curious and looked it up. Makes sense. “Jack Black and Kyle Gass met in Los Angeles in 1986 as members of the experimental theater troupe The Actors' Gang, which was founded by Tim Robbins.”

Josip Buretić

Oh yeeeees I love Tenacious D .... Also so great to watch the great Ronnie James Dio & Meat Loaf

Tim Pierce

I never noticed before, likely because I only just recently started watching the show, but young Jack Black is Barry Goldberg.

Nightlight Stories

It was only a matter of time before Simone quoted Dropout

JBK405

You CAN enter a space! This movie is a TRIP. I saw it before I really "knew" Tenacious D, so I didn't know what to expect, but I think that would have still been true even if I DID know Tenacious D. The two of them are legitimately talented musicians, and even all of the joke songs and "weird" songs require a lot of skill. But they're always game.

Kyle B

John C Reilly as also in the crdits as a Sasquatch Researcher

Dioskur

This film is very good

The Gentleman Slaughter

Dave Grohl also played drums on their self titled debut album and toured with them for a bit.

Spacedone

Also, Jack Black and Tim Robbins both appeared in the John Cusack movie 'High Fidelity' in one of the greatest scenes in movie history... or at least a very funny one.

Spacedone

This was the 2nd time that Grohl had played the Devil for Tenacious D. He also appears in their music video for 'Tribute'.

MeetMountain

I’ll have to check it out!

Spacedone

Tim Robbins starred in a lot of comedy movies or had comedic roles in movies prior to starring in Shawshank.

Matrim

So, to answer a few of your questions: they met when Jack was like 18 and Kyle was in his mid 20s. They worked together at a theatre troupe where Kyle was the resident musician. While initially not getting along they eventually bonded when the troupe went to Scotland to perform one of Tim Robbin’s (who had founded that theatre troupe, which is how they knew him) plays. Kyle would eventually teach Jack guitar in exchange for food from Jack-In-The-Box. A some of the celebrities who were here also appeared in their HBO series from the early 2000s (Paul F. Tompkins, John C Reilly, Dave Grohl). They were able to get others by being friends with folks like David Cross and Bob Odenkirk who know tons of people.

Matrim

And they appear in the video for Learn to Fly by the Foo Fighters

Rob

The Hudsucker Proxy being a great one by the Coen brothers although I'm not sure if it was before or after Shawshank

DasBigUn

its pretty awesome that there are so many cameos because, like 80% of them are awesomely well done

m

Was mentally preparing for my Hudsucker Proxy pitch as it is my favorite Coen movie, probably even after The Big Lebowski... and I was elated to see someone did my job already. Released early 1994, where Shawshank released somewhere around September or October. Hudsucker Proxy: You know, for kids!

Josip Buretić

So happy to see that you loved this movie like I did 😜 JB&KG are awesome 😎

m

You laughed at Ben Stiller's weird supra vs. super- thing, but in a vaguely metaphorical sense, he definitely is right... also in the more literal, location-denoting sense: super is kind of on top of/above while supra is "beyond" in comparison. Ultimately, it's more of a compound phrase or word thing, where it just belongs to (mostly technical) terms to mean something like above, which can be expressed as hyper, super, supra, or epi-, the latter specifically for anatomical location, in most cases: epidermis isn't so much the outer part of our limbs, but it is the part on top the "dermis", the middle layer of skin our tattooheads should be plenty familiar with. The entire movie kinda subverts all these instances of someone saying something almost correct in a dumb way, but this definitely holds up. And why wouldn't it? Dude spent six years learning Latin for the sake of translating one document, that's some satanical dedication (satanical stems from "satanus", it means devil btw)

maikeru

I wish so bad they'd watch Nothing to Lose (1997), one of my favorite comedies. They'd also love to see a totally different "Gus".

maikeru

👹🤘

maikeru

I rewatched the Home Alone & Home Alone 2 reactions last night 👌

J Osceola

Such an awesome movie.

latsöm

"I don't know who that is" W T F SIMONE Also watch the HBO show, I think of that as like the essence of Tenacious D, and Jack Black. And the songs are beautiful.

m

By the way, long time running in my mind: your website is working fine, but I keep selecting html elements that shouldn't really be selectable on a media player page and deselecting is a chore to downright impossible for most users - might want to forward this to whoever is rolling it. To accommodate all three of us desktop users, I suppose.

Cinebinge

hi W T. could you tell me more what specific elements you are selecting? as well as which player and which version of videos this happens to? and lastly, what browser you are using? thank you

maikeru

my ear and eye pussies like this film & reaction very much

Temba His Arms Wide

I never realized John C Reilly is in the credits as Sasquatch researcher.

m

no particular elements I checked for after the fact, just clicking for focus on the outside (ctrl-a will do the same, mostly) will selection highlight the player, occasionally locking out the "click to deselect"-behavior Brave browser, pretty sure I can confirm the same for chromium in general

Cinebinge

interesting. will look into this. thanks for letting us know

You guys need to watch Orange County next. Colin Hanks and Jack Black are both great in it and I have a hard time not picturing Jacks character whenever I see him in anything. One of the best Jack Black movies to me.

Fritz

I saw them live in 2024. They are/were so much fun live.

Adam Vialpando

That was the first movie I saw Colin Hanks in and I always think of it when I see him.

PG Modehouse

These songs were anthemic in college. My housemates and I would ultimately end a night of partying belting these songs at the top of our lungs

Adam Vialpando

It's funny how you thought it would be family friendly because this film was marketed heavily as a kid friendly film because of JB's success in School of Rock. I'm no expert but I think that expectation from the audience is one of the reasons this film flopped. Which is a shame because this films rocks (pun intended).

Philipp Roensch

Fucking great movie, JB should not doubt himself. This is a cult movie and did well on rental. Our friend group is such that we can quote and finish the songs when anyone starts it :D. I would guess the D got so many cameos because they were already successful when making this movie, and Ben Stiller produced it. "Tribute" is a great follow-up song to listen after this movie, maybe even their best.

droodly

Fun Fact: Ben Stiller's production company, Red Hour (Name inspired by the TOS episode "The Return of the Archons") produced this. One of the first things Red Hour produced was a failed TV pilot starring Jack Black and Owen Wilson called "Heat Vision and Jack". Heat Vision and Jack (1999) As the result of a NASA miscalculation, Astronaut Jack Austin flies too close to the sun, the rays expanding his mind and making him the smartest man on the planet. Now he and his talking motorcycle Heat Vision (which contains the mind of his former roommate) are on the run from NASA and their assassin, actor Ron Silver who wants to take his brain. They travel from place to place solving paranormal mysteries with the help of Jack's newfound ability to become a super genius when his brain absorbs sunlight. Enjoy this true masterpiece. https://youtu.be/EG1WxdG3RZ0?si=4X_mm9CJO5563XI6

Jeff K.

I completely forgot that "Tribute" wasn't actually in this movie. You've gotta believe me. Just a matter of opinion. Man I wish you were there.

Morion Williams

Who is DIo? Such blasphemy cannot go unaddressed. Rodney James Dio is a god of Rock. Holy Diver, Killing the Dragon, Straight through the heat, Evil Eyes, shame on the night, Wild ones, many more great songs.

Joe

Not knowing who Dio is criminal!

Jeremiah LaVelle

Not at all surprised that Simone is a dropout fan.

p0sthum4n

When I was 18 I worked in a LAN cafe where a bunch of 10-11 year olds played WoW and Counter Strike. I watched this for the first time at work there.

Torgosaves

Tim Robbins wrote, directed and starred in a movie called Bob Roberts in 1992. Jack Black was in this movie and I cannot recommend watching it enough. It is a pretty mind blowing political satire and Jack Black's performance is wild.

Kelly Pickard

For future consideration… Movies: - Waking Ned Devine (1998) - The Devil Wears Prada (2006) - Hook (1991) - The Birdcage (1996) - Margin Call (2011) - Legend, Director's Cut (1985) - The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert (1994) - The King's Speech (2010) - Flash Gordon (1980) - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) - City Slickers (1991) - The Craft (1996) TV: - Batman: The Animated Series - Disney's Gargoyles - Barry (Max)

A Möbius strip cannot play the accordion

My head cannon for jack black is this: it starts in POD, after multiple failures he splits to do his own things and sends up couch surfing in Ned Schnebleys apartment in School of Rock, after a relatively successful teaching career he dies and ends up in hell and the plot of the movie Dear Santa

Jacob Colson

When Dio was singing, I was like..... dude, his name is right above him on the poster!! And then when Jack Black mentions Ronnie James Dio, they still couldn't put two and two together.

Dan Holmes

Tim Robbins is actually in a few hilarious roles, don't forget he was in the Newscaster Rumble in Anchorman, but if you really want to see he funniest film PLEASE check out the super underrated 90s buddy crime comedy film with him and Martin Lawrence called Nothing to Lose There are two other cast members I won't reveal here that should be a crazy surprise if you recognize them, if not check out the cast list afterwards :)

Dan Holmes

Man I love how into this Simone was :) George, Dave Grohl did the makeup because he also played Satan in their incredible video for "Tribute" so he was sort of reprising the role here not just a cameo. Also bigger budget which meant more/better makeup than the music video, he looks a bit more like himself in that one lol

maikeru

Peter Greene, known for his role as the villain Zed in Pulp Fiction, has died.

Ohmss

You two really need to watch High Fidelity! See a baby Jack Black in his breakout role!

Josh

I'm 26 and I know who Dio is. Although I honestly only found out about him after Killswitch Engage covered Holy Diver lol

FryLord

When I was 13 I watched this movie then found a torrent of the album and played it on repeat. now about two decades later I still reference it constantly

Max Carter

I know Jack Black always steals the scene but Kyle Gass is really funny in this movie too and I've always considered him a somewhat underrated guitarist. I saw them live years ago and was shocked by how good he was

Brandon Meng

Pausing at the Colin Hanks mention to plug Orange County!! Starring Colin Hanks and one of Jack Black's early breakout roles. Also, Colin Hanks in the Fargo TV series does NOT disappoint.

Michael

Dave Grohl did all the drums in Tenacious D albums

m

Fucking hilarious how Simone kept taking away half of the lines before they were said, top soothsaying I gotta say

m

About the Meatloaf concerns: isn't that THE Patrick Stewart anecdote? Him really not feeling the TV and expecting his established stage career to sink? Pretty much a trope at this point, tons of actors in particular were orators, presenters, comedians - anything from any walk in life, really, who were discovered as great dramatic figures. I guess seeing so much of celebrities as one does, it might still be very different to show up on stage vs. doing a full-on, heavily scrutinized production; after all, few people really talk about regular mediocre shows all that much. I mean, probably just run-of-the-mill chip on someone's shoulder.

maikeru

Meatloaf was singing, just not in films. One of his most famous songs "I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)" came out 1993 and he was acting at that time too if I'm not mistaken.

maikeru

He disappoints in Dexter for the most part IMO, didn't like that performance very much. (I'm rewatching the Dexter show along with the Reel Reject guys and they'll reach the season with him in it and I'll see if I really didn't like him there or I'm misremembering how bad/good he was)

Will Sofer

This sounds suspiciously like what an “irregular guy” might say… ;)

Dwight Scarn

I highly recommend watching THE CABLE GUY with Jim Carrey. BEN STILLER directed it. Great dark comedy

Brandon Meng

I forgot about his season of Dexter. That season was sort of the beginning of the end for me. I wasn't into as much everything after John Lithgows season.

Jared S.E.

Very sad. Other notable roles were Dorian Tyrell in The Mask and McManus's fence, Mr. Redfoot in The Usual Suspects.

Tyler Foster

Need them to react to The Hudsucker Proxy. Also, if they enjoy High Fidelity, they should check out earlier Cusack/Robbins collaborations Tapeheads and The Sure Thing (directed by Rob Reiner, RIP).

Tyler Foster

I've said it before and I'll say it again: echoing the love in the comments for Joel and Ethan Coen's The Hudsucker Proxy (1994), starring Tim Robbins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Paul Newman, and which takes place in the weeks leading up to and on New Year's Eve. If you recorded it just because rather than polling it, you could release it on Thursday, January 1st!

Joel the Human

I love The Hudsucker Proxy, never hear anyone mention it.

Tyler Foster

A few other people in this comment section have brought it up.

Tyler Foster

I paid for it as a request on the last three NYEs, each on a different reaction channel, but none of them have actually put it on YouTube!

Sumner Hayes

Haven't seen this since it came out, this was fun. Wanted to thank you again for continuing to put out the watch-your-own copy versions: this movie has surprisingly awesome surround sound, starting with the THX paroday THC intro.

ScottishSammo

Hopefully you put 'the 51st state' on a list in the future. It has Meatloaf in a non singing role, albeit a short role and It has Sam L Jackson and Robert Carlyle in the leading roles Also, 'Nothing to lose' is a great Tim Robbins movie with Martin Lawrence, hilarious with some funny cameos

Emmanuel Paquette

Amazing reaction i decided to buy patreon finally after a few years i could NOT disgrace this movie with partial edited reaction u got me on that one haha. One of the funniest movie of all time with amazing music and cameos. Best one is undoubtedly Ronnie James Dio! The actual godfather of rock and roll. If you didn't know Dio's grandmother was doing the index and pinky thing as a religious women to sinful people as if they were the devil's children. He started using it with Black Sabbath which turned into the universal rock/metal sign. Ps: im team Dio in Black Sabbath not Ozy Osbourne hehe but they were both amazing . Dio is the godfather of metal and Ozy is like the prince of metal haha.
