I so wish that I hadn't had that spoiled for me prior to watching the episode when it first came out. It was still so awesome, but stupid social media just couldn't keep it a secret for one day. Ah well, like I said, it was still awesome. Like you said, can't have Fallout without Ron Perlman.

Jeff K.

The shot early in episode 5 with Lucy and the Ghoul hiding against the far and the Deathclaw on top sniffing for them before being distracted is directly an homage to Fellowship of the Ring with the hobbits hiding from the Nazgûl. (From what I’ve heard anyway.)

Jeff K.

The actor who plays the bartender at the Atomic Wrangler is on The Bear so I guess the universe just keeps telling y’all to watch The Bear. Hey, I don’t make the rules.

DaveJ

Great to see Martha Kelly again! She was great on Baskets with Zach Galifianakis.

Jedi Lounger

Simone is correct, The Enclave was in season 1.

Simon

George not remembering June, Barv or the Enclave from season 1, even after watching two S1 recaps...come on my guy, lock in lol

Jedi Lounger

You guys are really into Walton Goggins, I would put The Shield (2002) in your next long series poll. If you want something shorter Vice Principals (2016) is 18 episodes of unbelievable hilarity.

Tall Paul

or White Lotus, per my constant lobbying!

AlixFrost

With him sneaking into New Vegas, and the whole hooded getup, I was really hoping he'd be a nightkin, especially since New Vegas was the last game we ever saw them. But eh, close enough.

By Grapthar's Hammer, what a member!

They literally just said in this same episode "back in Filly, had her help a fellow who escaped from the Enclave get to the NCR"

Data Cable

How appropriate for Kyle MacLachlan to sit across the table from someone with *both* hands in boxes...

Jeff K.

No conversation about the best Goggins roles is complete without Justified.

Joe

Simone is right. We not only met someone from the Enclave last season, we saw their base. That's where the guy from Lost, the cold fusion tech and Dogmeat came from. The whole show started with the Enclave.

Vengeance

Speaking of LOST…. Please get that on a TV poll if they haven’t see it yet.

michael denny

he's a first gen super mutant they are not stupid. Probably once a member of unity.

Life in the cave of Garanoga

Me and my friends have and some lengthy conversations about an Elder Scrolls movie or tv show. The best way we figure they could avoid just being a LotR rip off is to focus on the Daedric Gods. Oblivion had some really good moments they could expand on in much the same way Fallout has done. But then you have to be careful it doesn't come off as just a cheap D&D rip off lol. I personally decided I don't want anything live action elder scrolls. If they did an animated, more adult series they could more easily avoid being lumped in a just another high fantasy show/film. But with all the success Fallout is having I feel like an ES live action is inevitable.

Jedi Lounger

I agree, I was thinking they should watch The Shield first and then Justified. See him evolve as an actor.

What's in the boooooox?

I’m a little late to the party and just watched the first two episodes on Cinebingers, and honestly… I’m pretty bored so far. As someone who’s totally new to the Fallout universe—I’ve never played the games or even watched gameplay footage—the storytelling feels really rushed. The show gives you a quick sense of what vault dwellers, ghouls, knights, and the different groups are, but it doesn’t really explain their motivations. I can make some guesses about how society evolved or who might be chasing what, but after two episodes, I still don’t really know what’s actually going on in this world. Who are the good guys? Who are the bad guys? Is there a shared goal? And if not, what’s the bigger story that’s supposed to tie all of this together? Aside from Lucy, we don’t get much backstory on any of the characters, so it’s hard to connect with them. And even with Lucy, her background doesn’t feel fleshed out enough. The show could’ve spent a little more time digging into her family dynamics. As it stands, I don’t know much about her, and I don’t feel any real emotional connection to her dad. Without that emotional hook, it’s hard to care whether she finds him or not. It’s also never really explained why the bombs were dropped in the first place, or whether this apocalypse is global or just limited to a part of North America. That said, I can absolutely see that the show is well produced and technically impressive. And based on what Simone and George have said, I can appreciate that it’s probably a great piece of fan service. But as someone coming in fresh, I just feel thrown into a world I don’t understand, surrounded by characters I don’t know. It’s like being hit with a flood of images and story fragments that don’t mean much to me and that I can’t really connect in a meaningful way. And that makes the whole experience feel both boring and oddly exhausting. As someone who usually loves post-apocalyptic movies and TV shows, it’s disappointing to say this one lost me after just two episodes. Is there anyone out there who, like me, knew absolutely nothing about the Fallout universe before the series started, got through the first few episodes, is now watching the second season, and thinks it's a well-told series that's worth watching? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Joe

Eh, not for me. I realise some people love it, but after season 3, I feel like it fell off a cliff.

Aedan Ryan

I disagree about the Inbreeding Group being time wasted and it going nowhere. I'm watching along with you guys and haven't watched ahead, but I think it's both thematically relevant and has been escalating towards a major breaking point. The vaults are supposed to serve as a juxtaposition to the surface; they're orderly, civil, and harmonious. What started as a wasted snack budget during an immenent loss of water seems poised to escalate to complete breakdown of order and civility. It doesn't seem coincidental that this is the first episode we've seen vault security guards equipped with weapons used for the purposes of intimidation. And if Vault 33 breaks out into violence and chaos under scarcity, is it any different from the surface? If the denizens of 32 and 33 are supposed to be models of how to control populations on the surface by valuing certain societal traits, and those traits still result in surface-like conditions, then what does that say about the vault dwellers? And what does it say about our contemporay society dealing with increasing levels of scarcity? My gut tells me things in Vault 33 are going to get ugly, although I would be happily surprised if they took it in a different direction as well.

Aedan Ryan

Either that, or have it set in Morrowind, which has a setting culture that is far less derivite and generic than standard fantasy tropes.

akaTheBAY-AY-RON

A power fist, and Fisto showing up in episode 5. Great episode LOL

OddThomas

For more villainous Justin Theroux I recommend Charlie's Angels Full Throttle

Life in the cave of Garanoga

One of the few "Truisms" in Philosophy is that it is easy to be moral when one can afford to be. People argue the finer points, but morality is subjective. George touched on the logic with being hungry. The example I always use is that you have a child with an illness that needs regular medicine, a disaster strikes and nothing is open, you're going to steal that medicine if you can. You might leave money or try to pay it back later, but in that moment, you are going to choose theft to save your child. Morality goes out the window in favor of survival. Not to mention starvation will make you do terrible things without even thinking about it. You just act out of instinct, well in general at least.

silverarrow06

Or, as Bertolt Brecht famously said: "First comes a full stomach, then comes ethics." 😊

Tenn Seven

Can't believe Simone didn't remember Ma June and neither of you remembered "BARV!!"

Obsidian_Rose

Not the answer to all your questions, but some: There are no good guys really, just different levels of bad guys. It's not revealed in the games either who drops the bombs or why, nor if it's just north America or global, we've only seen the world from an American perspective, but the assumption seems to be it was a global nuclear war. The Fallout world diverges from our own history after WW2, and technology develops differently from there on, where the real world moves on aesthetically the Fallout world keeps the 50s feel, eventually more or less turning into what the 50s imagined the future would look like

Brandon

I haven't watched ahead and I have this funny feeling we won't see the super mutant again this season. At some point in season 3, Lucy, Ghoul Coop and anyone else with them will need help and not know who to turn to. Then suddenly we'll cut to a closeup of Ghoul Coop: "I might know someone..."

michael cross

idk if anyone mentioned this already. but if i remember right theres a snowy location west of the new vegas map where there is a smart super mutant. cant remember his name but i wonder if this is the same one? he was the leader of a super mutant sanctuary. i also think he was a doctor or scientist. havnt played in over 10 years so its fuzzy

Philipp Roensch

Cooper's flashbacks, with those revelations and music stingers hit really well. My favorite part of the show now. How tragic and guilty he must feel, his wife as well, realizing the shadow government will not leave them another choice. A bit less a fan of: the teases, with Deathclaw House and Super Mutant. Too ofthen they just come in as a cameo, add a little suspense, but does not really go anywhere. I like what these villains get to do, but I would rather see them properly in their own time, rather than getting more and more teases. Cool detain with the waterchips, failing 50% of the time.

Korpse

Factions to be seen still are minute men, underground railroad and the institute

Will Sofer

See, with the cloak and cowl, I thought we were about to meet one of the sentient deathclaws from Fallout 2.

Tenn Seven

That movie was such a letdown after the first one turned out to be so good.

Will Sofer

I agree, that’s definitely a Gen 1 Supermutant who served the Master. I mean, he’s basically spouting Unity propaganda to Cooper the entire time. And not only can he speak in complete sentences, he’s actually somewhat articulate.

REDR58

That's Edwin Lee Gibson. He's only been in 4 movies so far but 11 different TV series.

REDR58

She was in "Spider-Man Homecoming" and Euphoria (both of which star Zendaya). She was also in an episode of the "What We Do in the Shadows" series.

REDR58

"Filly"! "Philly" is different!

REDR58

That's Michael Emerson who was on Lost.

REDR58

Yeah I'd love to see it set in Morrowind.

REDR58

Interesting take, as my exposure to the Fallout game universe is playing the first fallout game for less than an hour ago in 1998 or so. I'm mostly enjoying the show but find a bit of it drags. I'm mostly interested in Lucy, her father and The Ghoul above all else but I found these latest 2 episodes much more engaging than the last 2. Surprisingly for me, I am finding just about anything involving The Brotherhood the least interesting, aside from Maximus and Thaddeus who I would like to see more of. Just about anytime we spend back at the Brotherhood I wish I was seeing just about anything else, including some of the less interesting stuff in the Vaults. And that's despite all the cool power armor and airships. None of the other characters with that really grab me.

REDR58

I've surprised myself but I find the Inbreeders far more interesting than just about anything we've sen to far with The Brotherhood (excluding Maximus and Thaddeus, who I like).

REDR58

Potato batteries just make me think of GladOS. There seems to be no public information about Ella Purnell and her somewhat atypically larger eyes than speculation. You guys need to watch "Army of the Dead" from 2021 for more Ella Purnell!

Green Nolan

I just noticed that Lisa Joy directed the second episode! I didn't realize that her and Jonathan Nolan were executive producers. They are the creators and writers of Westworld and Jonathan is Christopher Nolan's brother.

Eversharpe

Cannibalism in Fallout is not about lack of food. There's plenty of food around, hell you can still find pre-war foods.

DaveJ

Good to know! Havent seen any of those. I think her deadpan delivery is pretty funny..

Joel

Yeah, at this point, I'm kinda cheering for Chet to get out of 32, and Betty to release the FEV on the rest of them

blerbaberpaterb

i feel like thats more just game mechanic, rather than what it would actually be like to live in that place. 200 years into the future, prewar food would all be dust and mold, even canned goods can go bad. but also, just cause food is around doenst mean everyone has access, look at the real world now and how much food is thrown out by stores vs how many starving people there are. we produce enough food to feed the world several times over yet billions still live in poverty and hunger. and thats not even accounting for simply mental breakdown and madness that people would have in an apocalyptic world where giant monsters roam the earth...

funky weapon

I know you're factually correct but considering the incredible drop in quality from Westworld season 1 to season 2 and beyond, I'm not sure how.

funky weapon

one thing I dislike about the TV show is that this Brotherhood chapter is portrayed as a bunch of dumbasses. it's so far removed from any portrayal of the faction that I'm left scratching my head and wondering why.

David Lonewolf Wright

Remember how Bud said they were working on making a race of "Super" Managers... they have managers that just need a dose of "Super" that makes them big, strong, and radiation resistant.

geoffeep

Skyrim TV series is an interesting idea!! You know one game that I've always wanted to see adapted because I loved the universe and idea was the OG Syndicate :)

RJ aka LEMental

Watching Simone watch this, looking like she wants to crawl through the screen and beat the ever-loving heck out of Hank is very rewarding. He is evil, and is such a good character.
