And to think the sonic films just get better and better (2 is better than 3)

UnlicensedOkie

It’s 7 am. I’ve been up almost all night. This is a happy surprise on my phone

tom david johansen

hope to see they do all of those Sonic movies, kinda like what they did with Mission Impossible movies :3

Mike W

I keep thinking these are coming out early but of course you're already on daylight savings 😉

gfixler

Oh, good. I've been meaning to watch this forever. The director is an acquaintance friend of mine from art college, so I've wanted to watch it, but never manage to make myself sit down and actually do it. Today's the day! Gotta go fast! I owned a Genesis, and played the game a ton in high school. Unrelatedly, I have tens of thousands of photos on Flickr, for 20+ years now, and none has been favorited as much as a shot of Sonic, Silver, and Shadow statues from E3 2006. I kept shaking my head, like "Why is this so popular?" Oh, and Simone, I LOVED Ecco the Dolphin as a kid! I loved a lot of games, but a few seemed magical to me, for whatever reason, and that was one of them.

s0rd3z

Never was a big Sonic kid but this movie was actually quite well done. I am not sure if I have seen the others or not, kinda forgot this was on a poll actually heh

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Really fun movie and will say each instalment improves on the next with some very nice voice cast additions. Jim Carrey also usually avoided sequels for the most part in his career but he did three of these because of the potential in the character and the collaborative working relationship with director Jeff Fowler. The dude worked on Sonic games and he is able to get these made efficiently at a quality that it’s able to keep Robotnik fresh in Mr Carrey’s mind to be exciting. Anyways this guy’s brother is a SEGA/8-bit/16-bit scholar who’d be able to educate anyone on that era of gaming to minute detail haha

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Ecco and the sequel have excellent soundtracks that are still highly regarded. As a synth collector they still come to mind haha

Mike FromOz

Even though Sonic is quite fast, I've heard that most hedgehogs are quite lazy. As one of the stanza's of a song about them goes - "The spines on his back are so awful thick You'll end up with naught but a painful prick He has an impregnable hole when curled up in a ball Hence, the hedgehog can never be buggered at all!"

Zero Cochrane

All the small town part were filmed in Ladysmith BC. My cousins live in the town and it was a huge deal. Especially since all their young kids knew James Marsdin for the movie Hop. lol

Matthew Richson

PLEASE do not dawdle, watch 2 & 3 ASAP! I’ll settle for them getting watched eventually. 😭

Matthew Richson

Now, I have to say, it’s still amazing how this franchise was saved from disaster after the negative response to the very first trailer.

Simon

Just go away dude...

Divinerights

Also yay, Chainsaw man! As an anime only guy it’s very good. But I heard the manga is ending soon.

I like Bobby Fish… but he’s got this fish gimmick

These Sonic movies are so weird, I don’t usually bother with stuff that’s I think is just okay and all the Sonic movies are just okay but I watch every single one of them anyway. I even watched the Knuckles tv series which was better than any of the movies imo

Matthew Richson

Might be just ending Part 2, we don’t know if it’s the end END yet.

Mike W

As one of those woke, vegetarians I skipped most of the carnivore intro 😄 really like this movie and looking forward to 2&3.

David Szoke

When this came out jim refused to do any interviews etc. I am not sure why, maybe he did it for a quick payday before knowing it would be big or didn't like the film or any number of reasons. just seemed strange.

David Szoke

Unless you have seen the film you can't call it slop. Any view is valid tho.

David Szoke

When this came out jim refused to do any interviews etc. I am not sure why, maybe he did it for a quick payday before knowing it would be big or didn't like the film or any number of reasons. just seemed strange.

Christian Da Silva

Guys you HAVE to do The Cable Guy with Jim Carrey. That movie will keep you laughing 2 hours straight. PLEASE we need this!!!

Jamie

I thought it felt like a classic family film, wouldn't be out of place in the 80s. Anyway, you don't always HAVE to leave a comment.

Zen Reacts

Why show up just to shit on the movie. Go find something else to do with your life than just willingly hating on something for no point you fucking loser

Cinebinge

alright folks lets please all take a couple deep breathes and walk away, lets keep the peace and not resort to antagonizing or insulting one another. continuing in such a behavior will result in permanent removal.

Victor Fiegel

Please watch "Chip N' Dale: Rescue Rangers" movie! Some amazing references (including some relevant to this) that you would love! Seriously, how have more people not checked that out? More "Lonely Island" movies in general, please. They're all good.

REDR58

Growing up and since then I have never played a single Sonic game. It was all just NES and SNES for me. And none of my friends had a Sega.

GAB

I did wonder if they came up with the horrible design to create controversy and publicity. Seeming to change the design based on the audience response would also garner appreciation and perhaps make people more likely to check it out. Just an off-the-top-of-my-head Machiavellian conspiracy theory...

REDR58

How I “make” nachos: Buy bag of Tostitos nachos. Buy jar of Tostitos salsa. Open bag of nachos. Open jar of salsa. Get spoon and drizzle salsa onto nacho chip. Eat chip. Oddly enough, I only eat nachos while watching sports on TV.

DasBigUn

I just realized....you guys have not done Mario movies either... this should be done, HA

newhastings

not a fan of the first two but i hope u continue on and do sonic 3 because it’s by a landslide the best one

Life in the cave of Garanoga

The initial release of the Sonic game was a truly great time in gamer history. Now not only did Nintendo have real competition finally (The Sega master system was great but just didn't compete) but Sonic was legit made to be a fuck you to Mario. Speed, style, attitude, flash, everything Mario wasn't. This was Sega's first wave of their strategy to all-out attack Nintendo and expose that they hadn't aged with the fans or gamers. Then the infamous Crash Bandicoot commercial of him standing out in front of Nintendo with a megaphone saying "Hey plumber boy, mustache man, your worst nightmare has arrived." Lol pure fucking gold. Link to commercial.... https://www.bing.com/videos/riverview/relatedvideo?q=crash+bandicoot+plumber+boy+comercial&&mid=0765D3CE3CE40E0167D50765D3CE3CE40E0167D5&FORM=VAMGZC

Shadow Zane

YES All the sonic movies just get better and better. 3 is actually amazing. Can't wait for you guys' reactions to the 2 and 3!!!!

unclegaga1979

If no one has mentioned it yet, you gotta check out the Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers movie from a few years back. It features the horrible CG Sonic from the trailer and they use it to great effect.

unclegaga1979

Not gonna lie: I, a grown-ass man in my mid-40s, cried my eyes out during the third Sonic movie.

Shadow Zane

No shame to that, It is a really good heartfelt movie. I hope they get to it soon lol, can't wait!

djKENTO

Wait... Did y'all really think San Francisco in the opening was Vancouver?

s0rd3z

With amount of sequels that have been on the back burner I have thought of suggesting a "sequel day" to the rotation but the schedule with anime added in and the extra Star Trek day they just have no other time for it. And I certainly wouldn't want to sacrifice any of what is currently on the schedule as of now. Some day :)

s0rd3z

Peaches peaches peaches 🎶

Mastervodo

Of COURSE that's the thumbnail!

Andras Beck

Went into Rescue rangers movie without expectations, and had a blast. Surprisingly entertaining. Not Lego Movie like, but still :)

Andras Beck

Simone loving J.Carrey dancing by himself. I hope they do the third one, Simone will have a blast :)

Sam

I never really played sonic or anything, but I really like these movies and the 2nd and especially 3th are better than this one imo.

Richard

Seems when the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog dropped in 2019, the movie was apparently nearly finished. If the original Sonic design went ahead I bet this film would have been a complete flop, so glad they listened to the community and went ahead with the redesign as it was so much better.

OddThomas

This was a nice surprise on release. Great Sonic action and Jim Carrey back to his 90s comedy roots. Talking of 90s Jim Carrey, please watch Batman Forever!

Shadow Zane

There's simply so many good movies and shows to watch!!! My dream would be a reaction to The Owl House lol but I don't think that's gonna happen realistically.

OddThomas

1993 Mario first tho!

ZachBrickowski

Hi! Lifelong diehard Sonic fan here! I’m super delighted you guys enjoyed this so much! It’s a very fun time, but it is kind of a Sonic movie in name only. The two sequels are both VAST improvements and I’d consider them the best video game films of all time. I hope you get to those sooner rather than later. If you’re curious, in the games, rings do occasionally act as portals but they’re largely just the equivalent of coins in Mario. They serve almost no plot relevance. Also, the reason the original creators went with a hedgehog is because they wanted curling into a ball to be an ability he had, hence an armadillo was also considered.

djKENTO

and I'm pretty sure this is the second movie where y'all didn't know about the Transamerica building and thought it was fake...

The Maestro

so this one doesn't follow much game lore except for a few little easter eggs like the robots being called Badnicks and the mushroom planet is supposed to be the first zone of Sonic 3 (the game, not the movie). This one is mostly a buddy road trip movie with Sonic and Tom but it's a good origin story for Robotnik and sets up the franchise pretty well, the big accomplishment of this film was being good despite expectations being super low. the other films do loosely adapt the story of some of the games

OddThomas

Other great video game movies: Silent Hill, Super Mario Bros (1993), Tomb Raider (2001), Resident Evil (sequels)

Will Sofer

Ah, Dr. Simonek. We meet again.

Jeremiah LaVelle

Simone, you had what is usually referred to as poverty nachos.

Zen Reacts

They absolutely did. Theres no way they had enough time to do a full turn around on how much of the movie was already done when that trailer was released. There was definitely not enough time between that trailer and when it hit theaters and we would have heard if they were forcing the animators to do all that work

dys

Except a lot of it actually was shot in Vancouver.

djKENTO

And the plates for the sf chase were shot on location here. There’s footage of them shooting it here.

FranciscoGios

When the game Sonic was introduced in the early 90s i was busy playing Street Fighter & Mortal Kombat. SEGA made this game to compete with Nintendo and its famous SuperMario game. Notice the main antagonist of Sonic has a bizarre mustache just almost like the mustache Plummers. Wait till you guys see more of Jim Carrie; as a fan of the Carrie I’ve never would have thought he would carry a character like Dr. Robotnik.

Scoobay

I grew up as a sonic/sega kid, but never saw the movies. Was a bit concerned it might not be able to do the games justice, but I liked it. Also, that part when Sonic said “I had an embarrassing lunch” might’ve been a reference to hedgehog’s proclivity to eat shite. They like to eat it, foam it up in their mouths and cover their quills with it. Doesn’t matter whose, any dumps will do. Hope nobody was eating while reading this.

REDR58

Tika Sumpter who plays Maddie was in “Salt” (2010) starring Angelina Jolie and which is well worth a watch. When Tom tags Sonic with the radar gun at 300 mph, that is about 438 kph. It’s estimated that Sonic runs at about 21,000 mph (33,970 kph) when he goes from Montana to the Pacific Ocean.

Mastervodo

MmmMmmmmm.... Poverty Nachoooos.

Jordy's_Here!

So happy for this reaction!! Cannot wait for reactions to the sequels (especially 3 😍), but now that you’ve mentioned the horrible 1st design of Sonic…I feel like you guy need to watch/react to the newer Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers movie on Disney+…that’s all I’m saying 🤣 (also it’s just another really good and well made CG/animated characters alongside real actors movie lol)

REDR58

Did anyone else spot Michael Hogan who plays “Colonel Tigh” from Battlestar Galactica (2004) in the military meeting at the beginning of the movie? He is also from Canada!

romai

DID I HEAR CHAINSAW MAN!?!?!?!?!?!??! ohhhh boy... I'm glad I held off on the movie this will be fun!

maikeru

for those wondering where they know the actress playing the shouty lady: she was in The White Lotus ps: hyped for the chainsaw man, only seen three ep a while ago. I liked it and I liked also the cute lil chainsaw pet creature 😅

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

Like many I kind of went in not expecting much from a Sonic movie (even from Jim Carrey at this point in his career) but was pleasantly surprised at how much fun both ended up being. I think I remember liking 2 better than 3 but both are improvements to this one. There’s also lots of fun easter eggs of the many Sonic memes scattered throughout these flicks. Like the ‘Sanic’ drawing Crazy Carl shows. As far as other Jim Carrey performances, hoping y’all can check out “Batman Forever” for his Riddler performance, heavily indebted to Frank Gorshin from the 60s Batman show (side note: Method Man of the Wu-Tang Clan provides a killer song based around the Riddler for the movie soundtrack). And I would personally be incredibly thrilled if y’all watched the “Series of Unfortunate Events” movie from 2004. Very fun, incredibly inventive flick and a great performance(s?) from Jim Carrey as the series’s antagonist.

IzanagiAce

Definitely saved the movie franchise, I'm just glad they were able to finally get to some of my favorite things in the 3rd movie that I will not be clarifying due to spoilers but if you know then you know what I mean

gfixler

I played so much Sonic growing up, but still missed a lot. I didn't notice the foot tap, and I definitely should have, because that was the first fun idle animation I ever saw. I didn't even know you could do that! 😆. My eyebrows went off the top of my head when I waited a bit too long at my Genesis, and he put his hands on his hips, looked at me annoyed, and started tapping his foot. Oh, and I don't think it was in the trivia, but the music that played after the boss fight, when we started to fly over the tone, and then cut to them painting the room — that was the Green Hill Zone (the first/opening world) theme music.

Jeb Manning

I'm really hoping reactions to the Sonic movies mean we can get reactions to Detective Pikachu and The Super Mario Bros. Movie soon too. They're so much fun.

Major Peril

Never really got into the Sonic movies or the game, but had fun watching it with you two in this reaction. Have to say though, watching cat silhouettes in the background has become my latest infatuation. 😁

unclegaga1979

If you're doing sequels, i have just a few recommendations: 1. First is The Raid 2. Everything you loved about the first one gets amped up to 100. It's definitely one of my all time not only action movies but also one of the best sequels. 2. Wait, have you guys already reaction for Sicario: Day of the Saldano? If not I would put it on the list. 3. I'm sure that everyone else mentioned already, but if not, I also have to mention Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning.
