The general consensus is that they get better with each movie because they actually incorporate more of the games as they go, I can see why you might like the first one more being non Sonic fans so it feels a bit more familiar to you, also no I don't think introducing Knuckles and Tails in the same movie is too much its better we get Team Sonic now so they can focus on other stories, I love Jim Carrey but I also want to see my Sonic-isms as well and I think its a nice balance, can't wait for 3 :D

If you want more Jim Carrey in the next one, you will be VERY happy! You will also be happy with another voice in 3. It is the best one of the series so far!

Yea I think this is far and away better than the first in every conceivable way. More adventure, action and we’re not stuck with the human cast most of the time. The Sonic, Tails, Knuckles team up and Sonic going super made for some of the best times I’ve ever had watching a movie. I’m surprised to hear you say adding two new animated characters is too much. The more animated cast, the better as far as I’m concerned. I’m also surprised to hear you thought this was considered the weakest one. The general consensus is each Sonic movie is better than the one before it. In case you didn’t know, Knuckles is echidna, not a hedgehog. And echidnas are actually animals that exist. Also the voice of Tails is also his current voice actress from the games which is awesome to see. Sonic 3 is the one that’s next level though. Can’t wait for you guys to get to that.

tbf Sonic wasn't able to outrun the avalanche because he was knee deep in snow which is why the movie presented that he needed the snowboard or wake Tails up.

There is a short Knuckles TV show before Sonic 3. It's only 6 episodes at around 30 minutes each. You could easily knock it out in 2 sittings. It's from the same production team and writers, even some of the same CGI fx houses. Worth the watch before going into 3. It's just about the same quality as the movies.

Oh you two might dig this bit of gaming trivia here... Let me take you back to early 1994. In February Sonic 3 drops for the Sega Genesis. Much like in this movie it is the introduction to Knuckles, who is tricked by Robotnik/Eggman to fight Sonic. The game is very well reviewed and people love it... then 8 months later comes SONIC & KNUCKLES! Now this game was really hot shit in 1994. Not only was it a totally new Sonic game where you could play as both Sonic and Knuckles, but the cart had a top that would open and let you stack any of the previous 3 Sonic games and let you play as Knuckles in those games. Knuckles can climb walls, he can glide after he jumps... it unlocked whole new ways to play two previous huge hits. A physical cart based gaming expansion. It also unlocked special bonus stages and all kinds of cool stuff.

Opinions are just that, and will vary, but I think this is the one where it's more affected by Simone and George having no knowledge of the games. Movies have to stand on their own merit, yeah, but it seems like they enjoyed it much less than the first one and most (not all) fans prefer the sequel cuz it's just closer to the spirit of the games. Still a fun commentary, but as a big fan of this movie, I hoped they'd like it a bit better. But to each their own, of course, hopefully they'll still check out the third

The wobbly electronic voice is very cool. I think Transformers: The Last Knight did it first with their villain and it's been copied in several things since; usually for roboty cyborgy villains

I think this one is far better compared to 1st. It goes all in on the gaming vipe. Didnt play the games and dont know the 3rd, but I know the name of the enemy and I know the memes about him Edit: Oh and I hated the bride, shes the worst part of the movie and I think stuff like her role is what ruins many movies and shows these days.

2003 Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. The first one they reacted to, and it's a good movie, but the sequel takes everything up 10 notches and it's so ridiculous and fun

Technically it’s a ‘hoverboarding’ game and there’s been 3 of them. 4 if you include Sonic Racing Crossworlds which includes the hoverboard or ‘Extreme Gear’ as a vehicle option. But there have been games with levels which feature actual snowboarding sections, particularly Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Sonic Adventure.

Just before Robotnik sets off the trap near the portal as the guards come through, but before Knuckles emerges, Robotnik says “"Klaatu barada nikto" which is a reference to the 1951 science fiction movie “The Day the Earth Stood Still” (which you should watch). You also saw this phrase on the wall of Alan Bradley’s (Bruce Boxleitner) cubicle in “Tron.” After Maddie and Tom leave for Hawaii, Sonic slides into frame from the side of the screen and the pose he makes is a reference to Tom Cruise making a similar sliding pose in the movie “Risky Business” (1983), which you should also watch. After Robotnik is at Stone's coffeeshop/evil lair, Stone refers to “The Secret” which is a 2006 pseudo-documentary about relationships and “the law of attraction.” Edit. You should *not watch* that movie. It's woo-woo dreck. After Knuckles hit/fisted the baseball, music from the 1984 baseball movie “The Natural” (with Robert Redford, also which you should watch) plays in the background. This music also plays in The Simpsons' 1992 episode "Homer at the Bat" in the 3rd season. Speaking of Rube Goldberg, you should check out "Der Lauf der Dinge" ("The Way Things Go," 1987) a 31-minute art film by Peter Fischli and David Weiss: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEAVrSSNfHw Anyway, I found this movie a bit of a drag and not nearly as engaging as the first one. I get that people who have played the games (and I have not, I grew up with Nintendo and Super Nintendo) get more out of it, and that's fine. But it was about as entertaining to me as watching *other* people play video games which is to say not at all. There was a lot of slow moments that just brought things to a screeching halt. The dance-fight in Siberia is 5 minutes of my life that felt like a month and that kind of thing has been... done... To... DEATH. The whole thing in Hawaii with the aborted wedding also went on entirely too long and as funny as Natasha Rothwell was as Rachel, Maddie's sister, it just seemed like that was a scene better set in a different movie. To paraphrase Homer, "whenever Sonic's not on screen, all the other characters should be asking 'Where's Sonic?'" I just don't want to see him dance again, ever.

George, I think you've mentioned being a PC gamer, well there are Sonic games on Steam, and "Sonic Origins" covers the first 4 Sonic platform games.

I grew up with the first 2 Sonic games on Sega Genesis and I still pretty much agree with George and Simone that the first movie was a little bit better.

Im surprised how much i loved these movies! Warms my heart to see jim carrey doing his thing, tons of nostalgia as a sega kid! But also super high quality visuals and honestly at times its really funny! ❤️ SO looking forward to the third one! 3 little easter eggs: The Coffeeshop Mean Bean is a reference to Dr. Robotniks Mean Bean Machine, a Sonic Game. The Snowboarding sequence refetences Sonic 3. The Manual in the Giant Mech in it design resembles the Manuals and cover designs of the Genesis/Mega Drive console and Games.
