Oh shit Attack on Titan!!

Tucci

Just wanted to say you guys did a great job with the website. The simple layout, organization, search, one-button link copy and the ability to pick up where you left off on videos are all really awesome.

newhastings

Also with frieren season 2 specifically they were catching up real fast with the manga, and since the story has gone on hiatus a couple times in recent years they’ve purposely slowed the show down in order to not overtake it

Jose Robles

Manga still ongoing, I think season 1 were 28 because it close just on the end of the magic exam arc, that was perfect ending in case no season 2. Season 2 should have ended on an arc call 'Golden Land', that by now you already watch the introduction with Denken but I think they were short on resources and they are close to catch on the manga thats why it is just 10 episodes. BTW spoiler..... The manga stuck on the current arc, plus this is the 2d time the author take a break due health issues,

KingSnitchGaming

Japanese has a lot of words that are simply English with a Japanese accent haha party is just one of those words.

Thall

God the music just gets right in there.. I love it so much. Kinda sad that the Frieren Main Theme (the one from the ost, not the anime one), wasn't played once yet! It reminds me so much of LotR and the hobbits. It's so nice

Phaerroh

So happy to see you guys back with this show! The Hero of the South was indeed briefly mentioned in season 1, when it was highlighted from Eisen's point of view how ridiculous the journey of the Hero's Party had been. I believe it was the scene when Frieren found the shaved ice spell that Eisen brought up how the Hero of the South had been killed by demons and he had been considered humanity's strongest fighter at that point.

Im in my quest to recomending Dungeon Meshi and now Witch Hat Atelierm, along with frieren, they ar considered the big 3 of fantasy manga and now anime

One of several reasons that later seasons of Anime are often shorter is that animation (or good animation) takes time. Spending time producing season 1 of an anime is less of a big deal because it'll release when it releases but subsequent seasons have to be careful about leaving too long a gap between seasons so that the audience doesn't move on. It's a tricky balance.

rickdwarrior

The Hero of the South battled the Seven Sages of Destruction and Schlacht the Omniscient. He battled 8 major demons and killed 3 sages and Schlacht. The heroes party killed 2 sages and in season 1, Frieren defeated Aura. That leaves 1 sage unaccounted for.

The biggest reason for these newer animes having huge seasonal differences is a popular manga gets adapted fairly early on due to popularity, but they get too quickly caught up to what's happening in the manga. But I'd gladly take this method over what they used to do, dozen's upon dozens of episodes of filler while the manga has more time to produce. And it doesn't help the manga itself is currently on hiatus.

Jared Hoover

Anime usually catches up to close to the manga very quickly and season one of most animes are just made to promote sales of the manga/light novel unless it becomes so successful they can make a season two. So often times season one is just meant to catch up to close enough so people can go out and buy the physical medium which makes more money. And since they do catch up quite quickly, if there is a demand for a season 2 there is not as much material to use to make a longer season.

Tom Hess

George: By the time you read this, I assume you already know. The authors of the manga have taken a couple of breaks for health-related reasons. Season 2 is shorter than season 1 because the anime is catching up to the manga. Season 3 which is scheduled for late 2027 will probably be short as well. Frankly, I prefer this. Quality over quantity. Another show drove me to insanity with its hundreds of filler episodes. I won't name it in case you decide to watch it...

RJ aka LEMental

This is not the first hiatus for the series, which has previously taken breaks in January 2023, May 2024, and December 2024, showing a pattern of pauses to manage workload.

Hatty Time

Actually for a lot of anime adaptations of mangas, a series tends to get ~12 episodes most of the time. Stories are generally condensed. For the bigger properties that are expected to do well, they will plan an initial release of a large chunk of the manga to be adapted up to a good ending point. Following seasons will be set as specific arcs they want to adapt at a time. This also gives some breathing room for the manga's pacing and the anime. In the old days of like the 90s, a lot of those anime adaptations would catch up too fast to the manga and they would always butcher the series by making up their own endings that always ended poorly.

Jared Hoover

Saying party comes from videos games using english words for game mechanics like partys, skills and other things, which has led itself into manga writing

Konrad

This applies to a large number of shonen adaptations (especially the early 2000s ones), where each show either got between 10-40% of filler, unnecessarily drawn-out episodes or both. Was one of the main reasons why I skipped many of them and went to the manga instead. I much more prefer the shift in recent years, where publishers and studios are willing to wait for more manga material to come out before releasing further seasons of the anime.

rickdwarrior

The anime in season 1 covered ch1-ch61 from the manga. Season 2 covered ch 62 to ch80. Season 3 which will be aired in October 2027 should cover at least ch81 to 104. Then ch105 to ch125 is a lot side quests. Ch126 to ch147 is another major story arc. This is where the writers are taking a break. My guess is that it will take another 4ch to 8ch to finish this arc. Hopefully in the next 2 maybe 3 years at the most the writers can start releasing new manga chapters.

Nehuah

Funnily enough One Piece is now moving to a seasonal Anime format. Which means all 1000+ episodes are now officially considered season 1. And since its season 2 will have a more regular ( compared to other anime) number of episodes, it too will follow the trend of a shorter second season you were talking about, if only by a technicality.

Tom Hess

Regarding George's episode 2x02 question: The Hero of the South is briefly mentioned in 1x06, the solar dragon episode. When they're looting the dragon's nest, Frieren has a flashback to Eisen saying "we shouldn't waste our time on ridiculous things, we might die, the Hero of the South was killed by the Demon King's Sages of Destruction". But it's a quick throwaway line said in passing.

djKENTO

The reason you get shorter seasons after the first is because you run out of source material to adapt. Usually when they start the anime adaptation there's a good chunk of source material to adapt and they take more time with world building and stuff. Then they run out. the solutions to this are to Game of Thrones it and make up your own ending, or do filler episodes which has the potential to annoy fans (like Naruto which across 700 episodes is 41% filler) or do shorter seasons and pace yourself properly. Anime fans are used to anime coming in literal weather like seasons where every 4 months or so yo have a new batch of series to take a look. The culture doesn't really sit around and wait for their favorite show to come back. They've got plenty of other shit to catch up on. Also kind of bummed you're doing Attack on Titan. So many other channels are doing it right now. REALLY REALLY want to see some more classic anime like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Black Lagoon, Berzerk, Record of Lodoss War (which is the first adaption of a Dungeons and Dragons campaign to TV or film). It's cool you're doing so many series but they're all from the past decade or so. Would love for you to get some classics.

Jayson Phillips

I made a Frieren TAV on BG3 but she is naughty lol romancing everyone in camp.

michael denny

2 manga chapters per anime episode give or take a couple

michael denny

!!possible spoilers concerning one piece!!, I'm genuinely surprised how the live action has more or less accurately showed the majority of the anime with limited cuts so far, I am curious how live action tackles certain characters for the upcoming arc and chooses the more ridiculous elements to adapt (looking at you, supersonic duck squadron).

PG Modehouse

This is the third archaic romance thing that Frieren has parroted from Flamme, outdated and sometimes prudish standards from about a thousand years ago LOL. The first was that a good gift for men is a potion that dissolves clothing. The second was that a blown kiss was Flamme's seduction technique.

42:49 Just hit the robot scene and realized I have watched reactions "Grandma's Boy" "Eurotrip" Back to bac. This calls for a robot themed poll!

Eversharpe

The sword gives the demons of the region a focus otherwise they would just be out there killing randomly. If you know where the enemy is going it makes defending against them alot easier.

Omar Bautista

Hate to say but its well know Japanese animate with 1 hand. 1 on the pencil , second on the pecker. Season 1 was filled with feet shots too

Naj

I was going to post this, but this is why you get short seasons with newer stuff. It's usually still being written. Also seconding being bummed about AoT but it's mostly because I'm a hater. It's just so The Walking Dead, aka misery porn that tries to cobble together some sort of plot and meaning.

Tangerra

So as far as dates are concerned, I’ve been on dates I didn’t realize were dates until years later. I’m both ace and autistic so I just thought we were hanging out.

Tangerra

But I’ve also had people lay their head on me or play lewd games with me that I thought were signals based on advice from others that were completely incorrect and they did not think of me in that way at all, they were just comfortable with me.

Philipp Roensch

Wait, it is not yet on Netflix? Guess I'll have to see this one another time

A Möbius strip cannot play the accordion

It depends on how the futuresight works. If it is probability based, like he sees many many outcomes and the one that gives the best chance of success is him facing off the sages, then it’s not deterministic. Also there might be both a physical concept of fate and/or the goddess that guide people, not to mention humans are quite predictable creatures

AVATAR-X

Simone: About the opening song, "lulu." by Mrs. GREEN APPLE you might enjoy the full song, it's roughly 3 minutes longer. Historically anime Opening and Closing themes are 90 second edits of longer songs (kinda like movie trailers). Here's the official video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjeiIal1ZR0 About the Ending, yes it was hand drawn - the artist is Mimei AOUME On the use of the loanword "Party"; yes there are Japanese words that can be used in similar circumstances. For instance "nakama" (yo ho, ho ho) is popular among certain groups. In the case of fantasy or video game settings, "Party" gained popularity in the '80s due to tabletop RPGS and later console RPGS. One of the most influential properties arguably being , "Record of Lodoss War" a tabletop session whos "replays" were serialized in the Japanese magazine Comptiq and later adapted into novels, anime, and video games. Lastly about the season lengths/episodes counts - historically popular manga adapted into anime had no seasons. Manga was released weekly and later the anime was also released weekly (consuming approx. 2 manga chapters per episode). This often led to pacing and filler issues. The last 10-20 years have seen a rise in seasonal adaptations, cutting episode counts down from 52 a year/season to 26 and more recently to 10-13. Frieren currently has 147 published chapters and is currently on an indefinite hiatus since Oct. 2025. Season 1 ran through the first 60 chapters, Season 2 goes another 20-ish, Season 3 has been announced for 2027 and will likely do another 20-ish chapters to finish the next major arc. Leaving roughly 40 chapters that could potentially be adapted. Beyond that, it is up in the air. I don't believe there has been any recent news on the manga resuming.

AVATAR-X

Just want to give a quick shoutout for Witch Hat Atelier a series that only recently debuted its anime adaptation, although the manga debuted in 2016. Season 1 started airing in April 2026 and will end by July 2026 (13 episodes). It kinda reminds me of a mix of Frieren, Kiki's Delivery Service, and a certain non-Cosmere Brandon Sanderson novel that will likely never get a sequel. :-(

gfixler

Mrs. GREEN APPLE used to be Mrs. RED APPLE, until Frieren met her.

gfixler

If the demons can SENSE that the sword is there, then destroying makes sense. If they can't, then destroying it makes no sense. They're just going to believe you've hidden it, and be mad when they break in and can't find it, and go on a rampage. It's like when William H. Macy's character said to Dr. Grant, in Jurassic Park III, regarding the egg the young guy stole: "What if they catch us with them?" and Dr. Grant replied "What if they catch us without them?"

DoktorEvil

Yeah, Crunchyroll always gets dibs on this series, I think.

DoktorEvil

Yeah, I'll second this. I'm someone who can enjoy most anime either subbed or dubbed (at least these days- some of the dubs back in the day were... something) but Bebop is one of a handful of cases I think is objectively better dubbed. Steve Blum just IS Spike.

gfixler

Wow, according to Frieren, I've been on a lot more dates than I thought!

Jobbe Smit

Netflix does not keep up to date with the latest seasons of their anime.

Rainy Days

AOT is coming?! HYPE

Adjax Whyte

I want to put it on your radar for fun world building and a lot of good seasons and if you want something happy to balance the more serious anime you watch. That Time I Was Reincarnated as a Slime

Conzi

Have you watched all of AoT? Cuz it has a really powerful story and some great lessons about humanity

djKENTO

That doesn't make it any less about misery and suffering...

Ray H

Oh and to answer your thoughts, the future isn’t set in stone. HoS said he saw a future with Frieren coming with him but he would still fail and die. This option was probably the best shot at ensuring the Demon King died. So he played his role.

Conzi

So stories aren’t worth exploring unless they’re about sunshine and rainbows? That’s like saying LoTR is about misery and suffering. No, it’s about perseverance and both the beautiful and dark qualities humanity can show in times of great misery and suffering.

djKENTO

Personal preference is a thing. Moods change. You don’t know what people are going through. How about leave it alone. It’s really not that big of a deal.

Conzi

Just giving my opinion like you did lol. Apologies if that offends you.

djKENTO

No you're questioning another person's preferences and being condescending about it. "so stories aren't worth exploring unless they're about sunshine and rainbows?" and then you go on to try and argue why your preferences are right and ours are wrong. That's not "just giving an opinion". Your opinion doesn't offend me. Like what you like. Don't judge others for not being down with it for whatever reason. Maybe some people don't want to watch a show where you watch some one's mother get eaten in the first episode and it's one of the least traumatic things on the show. That's a 100% completely valid thing. <3

Conzi

I was mostly responding to the other poster who called it “misery porn” and then you defended that position as reasonable when it’s just extremely reductive. It’s totally fine to not like AoT. It’s an incredibly dark story that I wouldn’t recommend to everyone. But boiling it down to being “misery porn” is silly and misrepresentative of all the things it does really well. Not judging for personal preferences, but I am judging shallow and dishonest takes.

Conzi

Also, you recommended Berserk in your op which is my all time favorite manga, but also arguably quite a bit darker than AoT.

Wilfried Burow

We had lots of feet in season 1 as well. Serie was basically all about feet, flashbacks of Frieren and Flamme did very often include foot shots. I'm sure, Tarantino is a big fan of the series.

Milosz Skowronski

Yeah do believe it is the probabilistic universe, and HotS can just tap into all the possible futures to pursuit the one that leads to the best outcome. There are a couple of small facts to suggest that: 1. He is considered the strongest hero BECAUSE of his talent, not despite of it, so clearly he can not only see but choose his own future and that's what makes him the strongest. 2. When he first asks Frieren to join him and she refuses he says: "I knew nothing I say will convince you" suggesting that in his futuresight he tried many different ways of convincing Frieren and failed every time. It also makes him incredibly heroic, because he could have just thought of himself and chose the future in which he survives, but instead chose one in which he sacrifices himself to clear the way for Himmel to save everyone else. He's the true GOAT.

A Möbius strip cannot play the accordion

Definitely, I agree with how you put it. Also not to mention that we still don’t actually know how magic or anything works in this world and future sight could be a misnomer
