Star Trek Day!

Jamie

Best day of the week :)

ChiefKC

Patrick Stewart has been performing "A Christmas Carol" on stage and movie for over 30 years now.

fforw

"WE NEED YOUR IMMEDIATE ... INDIFFERENCE!"

Joel

"Ardra" has a lot of confidence that the population aren't just going to burn her at the stake or something after what she put them through...

Phil

Regarding the question between the episodes: Any scene that's supposed to be in complete darkness, but (for obvious reasons) isn't. That, without fail, reminds me that the lighting people are sitting around the corner.

Robert Cooper

Things that get me: poorly written children. Kids in movies are too frequently either small adults, or just unimaginably stupid. Also, I was kind of taken aback about the second episode. I saw the little lab bubbles in sickbay and thought it was this one, but I didn't remember a Dixon Hill part in this one. Also, I like how the alien got Troi out of her jammies before walking around.

Brandon

About the question inbetween: I hate it when an actor takes a puff or a drag of a cigarette or a joint, and they exhale without you seeing any smoke. It's usually the actor not wanting to smoke, which is fine. It does take me right out of it, though. A great example is Matt Damon smoking a joint with Jay and Silent Bob in Dogma.

Cinebinge

oh i just thought its just a few episodes without him since not every episode includes every character. hes gone permanently? damn. too bad.

blerbaberpaterb

....... feels like that could've been a fun natural realization/reaction at some point......

ChiefKC

He will make a few guest appearances, how Kane Is Able is correct that he left the show because his character was disliked by a lot of the fans at the time.

blerbaberpaterb

......yeah its clear to us with knowledge of what comes after.... but clearly he didnt realize it yet.... plus theyve done 'going to academy' plots before....as well as other 'promotion' or 'im leaving' plots for other characters and they didnt leave....

ChiefKC

I don't get what is wrong with reading the episode title. It doesn't spoil the episode and is common practice to put the episode title in the channel guides.

Mike W

I'm always perplexed by the what takes you out of a show question. I tend not to be bothered by anything. I never get lost in a show like that. It's just not how my mind works. 🤷‍♂️

blerbaberpaterb

.....yeah i dont get it either....like if the titles were lengthy descriptions, thats different.... with no context or info, Devils Due could mean anything.... its not like the titles was "Adra the con artist cons a whole planet!"...

Brendan

In between question. I always irritates me when a character doesn't know something that they should know just to move the movie in a certain direction.

W_E_Ray (Dungeons-Dragons Grognard since '81)

Q in "Devil's Due": Through no fault of your own, you were Reacting over a line of dialogue from the Troi character that pointed out 'Q would not likely be interested in "Financial Projections. and Economic Forecasts."' You did catch Picard's response, "I noticed that too." The observations that an entity of the Q wouldn't care about economics. Now, whether this is sufficient to make the audience *agree* with that argument or observation is another thing entirely. I do think that the audience, at that point in the episode, is still questioning whether Ardra has magical powers. I think she's much more like a "Doud" -- just an evil or mischievous one -- like the one who commits genocide on The Housnok in the episode "The Survivors" where the Doud is disguised as Kevin Uxbridge with his deceased wife, Rishawn. "An immortal being of illusions and false pretenses" (or something to that effect).

Tangerra

So as far as acting is concerned, I like Bruce Campbell’s take “Actors who say they can dive inside a character are either schizophrenic or lying.” I think there’s a certain amount of understanding you can get from a character, but you take from your own experience and yourself to make the character, not the other way around.

REDR58

I noticed at the time that when we watched “Pleasantville” awhile back that Reese Witherspoon seemed to quickly push the cigarette smoke back out of her mouth instead of exhaling through her nose early in the movie (at about 13:35 here: https://cinebingers.ca/j161ZLGJt9) and I speculated that was perhaps because the actor was not a smoker. The I looked it up and it seemed she *was* a smoker later on in life but then had quit? So who knows.

REDR58

That should definitely be a reaction this Christmas time.

Mike FromOz

I know you wanted specific in-movie things that annoy us, with a bit more depth, but mine is the Wilhelm Scream. Every time I hear that fucking annoying soundbite it completely takes me out of the moment, and reminds me that there are a lot of sound engineers who think that it is just the best thing ever. I loathe it with a passion.

W_E_Ray (Dungeons-Dragons Grognard since '81)

George, you're still thinking of TNG as a linear SciFi storyline -- something many, many many folk and fans do. It is not. It will fail in many aspects -- most notably the SciFi "tech" elements -- if one thinks of the show this way. The writers wanted to do a fun, lighthearted "STAND-ALONE" episode showing fear of Religion and The Devil and superstition is all Bull Squash. Belief in the supernatural and of The Devil is nonsense -- it is all a lie, all a scam, all a Con Game used to manipulate "The Sucker Born Every Minute." In making that single, stand alone show, they needed the Con Man to be able to do stuff that will NOT (necessarily) exist in the future or whatever. It is a separate episode. If next week the writers need the techno-SciFi stuff to work radically different, if the security needs to be radically different for the Theme of the next episode, it will be completely different. In one episode if someone Teleports on the Enterprise alarms start blaring. In this episode they don't Why? *Because these are stand-alone episodes!* In one episode the Teleporter works 'like that' but in another it works 'like this.' There is even a case in the series where an episode says, kinda-sorta like, "We always go Left" and in the very next episode a character says "We never go Left." (It's in season 7!)

ChiefKC

Another inconsistency is everytime they reset the ship's chronometer, it would then be different then the time maintains by the rest of the federation. As soon as they arrive at a starbase or planet, wouldn't the question be "Why are our clocks off again?"

REDR58

I’m going to be a nitpicky bastard George, but that was not “The Ghost of Christmas Past” in the opening scene with Data but rather Jacob Marley, who wears the chains.

Elvenwitch

The thing that takes me out of a movie or show is really bad, unexplained science. Not things that are explained away with jargon, I don't mind that. Things that are just insanely wrong and done for the rule of cool looking or sounding.

Jamie

Wasn't that explained by the wormhole travel? Data said they need to adjust their chronometers to the nearest starbase at the start. I'm not Einstein so fuck knows what wormhole travel would do to space/time etc.

Mikebdrx

Kirk would have smashed Ardra and still saved the planet

Jamie

Spoilers!

DannyDarko

Greetings, are you going to watch ST6: Undiscovered Country after you finish TNG S4? I think ST6 released in Dec 1991, about half way through TNG S4's airing, as much as I love TNG, I do miss Kirk, Spock & McCoy.

Jamie

Agree. I love both equally, but returning to the old crew would be a lovely treat and nice little mini break.

Gryff

Only one episode this week? All good, seems to happen with every Star Trek TNG reactor(s)... =P

REDR58

"Final Mission" says it all.

REDR58

Devil’s Due Patrick Stewart is not a method actor, but here is an article about some well-known actors who are or who have used the method: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lists/actors-method-acting-prepare-roles/ Daniel Day-Lewis is perhaps the most well-known method actors today: www.theguardian.com/film/2025/oct/06/daniel-day-lewis-is-cross-method-acting-is-equated-with-behaving-like-a-lunatic-thats-exactly-why-we-love-it “Daniel Day-Lewis Says Method Acting Criticism Is From ‘People Who Have Little or No Understanding of What It Actually Involves’: ‘It’s Almost as if’ We’re in a ‘Cult’”: https://variety.com/2025/film/festivals/daniel-day-lewis-rejects-method-acting-critcism-cult-misconception-1236553268/ Ardra was played by Marta DuBois (born in Panama) who died aged only 65 in 2018 from an aneurysm. Paul Lambert who played the Federation Dr. Howard Clarke was in “Planet of the Apes” (1968), which you should watch; had an brief appearance in “The Godfather” as a mobster and also “Apocalypse Now” as Willard’s Messenger. Fek'lhr the mythological Klingon “Guardian of Gre'thor” is played by Thomas Magee, a Canadian powerlifter. I wish they had asked that nameless ensign (Mark Kosakura) where he went when he was transported away by Ardra! Marcelo Tubert (Acost Jared), born in Argentina, was in “Tremors 2: Aftershocks.” He is also in “Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & Fabulous” with Sandra Bullock.

2026-09-05 05:00 Clues: One of my favorite lines from Star Trek / favorite moments, is when Geordi answers Picard's "If that's the good news, what's the bad news" question with the line: "That Data and I are the only two people on the ship capable of doing it." .... I still remember my reaction 35ish years ago, almost jumping a bit out of my seat at the line. A legit jump scare. I'm sure my mouth hanged open agog.

Hey when you order just a whiskey, you got to add leave the bottle. Never seen that before

W_E_Ray (Dungeons-Dragons Grognard since '81)

I "strongly disagree" that Method Acting is in anyway bad or problematic for actors in-society. One or two nonsense stories about an idiot or jerk doing an idiotic or jerk-off thing "because he was a method actor" is, to me at least, nonsense. I can easily understand someone only hearing about a couple idiotic or jerk-off stories from an idiot method actor and conflating 'ALL' method actors and method acting in general with those idiots -- but it is not what method acting is all about.

Data Cable

There's a reason "Devil's Due" felt like "TOS levels of dramatic." It was re-worked from an un-produced TOS script (which explains strict-Prime-Directive-adherent Picard's uncharacteristic motivation to save the planet.) Next time you see a screen actor typing on a keyboard, watch closely. Do they *ever* touch the spacebar? Second appearance of nurse Alyssa Ogawa. Her first appearance was in the fictional future of "Future Imperfect." (oops)

Keith Jones

I can forgive the "give me a whiskey" thing if it's a Western. Bourbon was first bottled in the US around 1870 or so. Before that it was still shipped in barrels. Any bar that had whiskey at all usually only had the one. If it didn't make you go blind from bad rectification you'd just consider yourself lucky.

REDR58

You're welcome. Most of that information about the guest actors comes from Memory Alpha/Wikipedia!

blerbaberpaterb

.....spoilers for what...? the episode thats inside this video, the recording of them watching the episode i described....?

REDR58

Clues At the start of the episode, Worf was leading a mok'bara class (basically tai chi, as Simone guesses!). Note the Klingon language written on the floor cushions on the lower right of the scene. Madeline, Dixon Hill’s receptionist here is once again played by Rhonda Aldrich who was previously seen as the same character in the "The Big Goodbye" (season 1) and "Manhunt” (season 2). Nice to see that the producers brought her back each time, though her time here is much too brief. What continues to pull me out of these show (albeit, briefly) is when the main cast speaks to another background actor who does not reply vocally (as we see here in sickbay when Beverly speaks to “Locklin” (Kathy Hammers). It drives me nuts. Especially when they should verbally acknowledge or repeat a command that is given to them. I know why this is done, but it’s still annoying. When Worf and Beverly speak to Picard in his ready room, you can see the little crystal on the desk that Riker was playing with in “Data’s Day.” During the scene where Picard confronts Data on the bridge, you can see all of the background bridge crew staring at them after possessed Troi enters the bridge. Normally the crew at the rear of the bridge continue to monitor their own stations, so this behavior is a little unusual, but then again it’s an unusual situation. However, they continue to stare forward, even after the ship’s shields are struck by the Paxan’s energy. Then after the flashback scene where possessed Troi attacks Worf, you can see one of the rear bridge crew keeps peeking forward! George, don’t you know that the floor has a special anti-concussion force field to cushion Troi‘s fall?!?! It’s *just* for her.

D.A.V.E.

No real spoilers but an example of something that annoys me would be in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull they used a picture of Sean Connery in a picture frame that was a still from the previous movie, from the scene on the Zeppelin before Indy threw the Nazi out of the blimp... WHO TOOK THAT PICTURE!! Movies and TV do this kind of thing all the time using still images in picture frames or even using footage from the movie in the movie like when in one of my favourite movies Running Man they show Arnolds character Ben Richards being dragged by Buzzsaw in an advert for the show before Ben Richards was even caught it's lazy.

John

And yet it turns out that it was Geordi who did it all along!

John

George complaining about the lack of explanation by Dr. Crusher after her examination of the ensign, and then talks over the explanation. 😅😅😅

REDR58

Yeah I’ve noticed that a lot too. Very distracting.

REDR58

Dun dun DUN!

ImpishMisconception

First, I want to address the Scrooge thing. If you aren’t interested in my comments on Scrooge, just scroll down until you see in capital letters, COMMENTS ON THE EPISODES. About Scrooge, I have a hypothesis that Ebenezer Scrooge never learns his lesson. I have read the novel, A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, and I have seen many movie versions of the tale, but Scrooge never actually learns his lesson. So, basically, the story is that some old miser is treating his clerk and everyone else horribly, he's very cheap, and he doesn't celebrate Christmas. Old dude goes home and gets paid a visit by his friend's ghost. Nearly scares Scrooge to death. That would be awkward, as Jacob Marley is there to help his friend escape his same fate. If Jacob Marley had accidentally literally scared Scrooge to death, that would be awkward, and I think it would go something like this... ... Jacob Marley: Boo! Hi Scrooge! Scrooge: Ahhh! *Dies.* Scrooge, now a ghost: What's with the big chain on me? Jacob Marley: Oops... Well, this is awkward. I came here to save you from this fate... Scrooge ghost: Did you honestly think this through? I'm like one hundred years old, did you honestly think that maybe, just maybe, scaring me to death was maybe not the best Idea? Jacob Marley: I didn't think it through... Scrooge ghost: Yeah, I can see that... Thanks a lot! Jacob Marley: Well, now we can hang out and do ghost stuff together! Scrooge ghost: .... Oh joy... So, that's how I picture that happening. Anyway... After Jacob Marley's visit, Scrooge is visited by three other ghosts. I think he is going to have some ghostly PTSD and not want anything to do with Halloween for a long time after this experience. The ghosts of the past, present, and future visit Scrooge. It’s not until Scrooge sees his own grave that he starts crying and saying sorry for being a horrible miser. He’s not actually sorry for what he did; he’s afraid of dying. Does he realize that he is going to die sooner or later anyway? I don't think he thought of that. He is like one hundred years old, so he doesn't have long to be on Earth anyway. He's only trying to get out of dying, which will happen to him anyway sooner or later; he doesn't actually feel bad about what he did. Also, at the end, he's supposed to celebrate Christmas now and like it. What about the other holidays? Does he hate all the other holidays? If he hates Easter, Halloween or any other holiday, will the ghosts be pissed? What about when it's not winter? Is he just an ass the rest of the year, but in winter near Christmas, he acts like he loves Christmas and everyone? What if Scrooge were Jewish and celebrated Hanukkah instead? Would that count, or would the ghosts still be pissed? What if he celebrated Kwanzaa or Festivus? These questions just aren't answered. My point here is that Scrooge wasn’t actually sorry for what he did; he was only afraid of dying, which he would die anyway, sooner or later. …. COMMENTS ON THE EPISODES. The Devil’s Due. “When I want you on your knees, I’ll let you know,” is one of my all-time favourite lines ever said on this show. I love the actress who played Ardra; she was great in her role and played it perfectly. I love all of her outfits as well. I think the con artist thing would have gone over better if we hadn’t seen so many god-like beings on TOS and TNG. With all the god-like beings we have seen, though, it’s a bit harder to believe she’s a con artist. Though it’s fun to watch Picard perform all those tricks. Deanna Troi again proves she’s as useless as a screen door on a submarine when she can’t sense that Ardra is lying. She should have been able to sense that. I don’t care how focused someone’s mind is. Clues I like how this is set up, as the audience has to figure out what’s going on; it’s not like we already know. When Troi starts speaking in that low voice, when the Paxons take over her body, all I can think of is the movie Ghostbusters. There is no Deanna, only Zuul. Again, though, it’s another instance of Troi must suffer.

TomGas2025

R.I.P. Nurse Ogawa...

Guts

That scene with Troi and the mirror unlocked a new fear in me when I was a teenager. I remember that after watching a scary movie looking in the mirror took extra courage.

Cally

Instead of saying that everyone had been unconscious for thirty seconds, it would have been better to say that everyone had been out for 24 hours - that would eliminate all the discrepancies except for Worf's wrist.

Jomero

I didn't know about that. That's sad. RIP indeed. She was a great member of the show.

Jomero

Unfortunately, Troi's character (and several other women characters) is often not treated with a lot of dignity and respect. Misogyny and sexism ran rampant in the higher-ups of the show during this era (fuck Rick Berman). It's the reason why Gates McFadden was "fired" from the show after season 1 for speaking up about it. And it's a reason for other conflicts with cast members in another Trek series (seriously, fuck Rick Berman with a pineapple). It does get better, especially with women characters in Deep Space 9 (but even then it's not quite perfect).

TomGas2025

She died age 56...i believe either this year or at the end of last year. Really surprised me when I read that.

TomGas2025

2024 already? Geez how time flies by...I honestly thought last year or this year.

Will Sofer

While I like Bruce Campbell, he’s not exactly known for having a huge range, and is also known for taking about any role for a paycheck. He’s also known to be a bit of a misanthrope, and enjoys being a contrarian. I’d take anything he says about acting, and the entertainment industry in general, with a grain of salt.

Eversharpe

I don't know what kind of bars y'all go to but the local joints around here if you ask for a "whiskey" with no qualifiers you're getting the cheapest shit from the well. Same for beer, you get the cheapest on tap. My thing in movies is always, cars. The scenes are so shit. Exploding, tires squealing for no reason, cops hiding safely behind doors, etc, etc, etc. The list never ends.

NotlobParrot

"A Slow-ton Torpedo" 😂 I'm jealous of that one, George.

John

I would like to recommend The Sting as a movie to watch

Michael Kemmet

Also RIP Marta DuBois(Ardra). I assumed she would still be around until I checked Memory Alpha/Wikipedia. She passed in 2018 from a brain aneurysm at age 65.

Michael Kemmet

I give a tiny bit of grace to the Enterprise crew in Devil's Due because of the situation. They were approaching an ordinarily very peaceful planet that was mainly agrarian with basically no advanced technology. Ardra's ship was already in orbit under cloak, and the crew had no reason to be looking for a cloaked ship. When they arrived, they believed the problems were strictly on the surface of the planet, and that's where they focused their attentions.

Matrim

Things that take me out of a movie: stock sound effects. If I recognize a sound it immediately pulls me out. Sometimes it’s fun to recognize an obscure sound, sometimes it’s cringy (I could go without ever hearing the Wilhelm scream again), but it’s always something that breaks the spell. As for the “just ordering whiskey” thing, in most bars I’ve been to if you don’t specify the liquor they give you the well brand.

Candy Found on a Barbershop Floor

Rob Lowe is a method actor, and on The Stand (the Mick Garris one, not the awful remake), he played a deaf mute. He tuned out any conversations where he couldn't see lips, and communicated with a notepad.

REDR58

Tires squealing on dirt or gravel roads, that drives me nuts. “Heat” did a nice job showing holes being blasted in police vehicle doors during the big shootout.

Matrim

I really like the Paxans. I like that they don’t mean anyone harm and are willing to work with folks so long as it maintains their isolation. Just having them be another murderous alien threat would be much less interesting.

Robert Mendoza

One thing that takes me out of TV shows is when chaacters sing For he's a jolly good fellow instead of Happy Birthday. I know why but it's something I've never heard in real life. I'm glad you pointed out how no one caught Counselor Troi when she slowly fell down. I've always laughed at that.

Ian Tellam

I think he's in the next season, and occasionally in ones after that and in at least one of the movies.

Ian Tellam

Shouldn't happen any more, as the copyright has been rescinded on Happy Birthday and it's now considered public domain.

Ian Tellam

Ah makes sense - I can totally see Kirk in Devil's Due.

Simon Pegged Me

Audra's last line “Until we meet again” seemed to be setting up future adventures with the Enterprise. I never thought about this before, but I wonder now if the writers and producers weren't planning to make her a recurring character, specifically TNG's version of Harry Mudd, an intergalactic con artist that vexes the captain and crew when the season needs a break from boldly going everywhere. I agree that assholes use method acting as an excuse to be assholes on set. Jared Leto is the best example. Sending dead rats and used condoms to members of the cast didn't make his Joker any better, probably because those are not Joker-esque things to do. If he were really a method actor, he would have taken someone hostage or killed the entire crew for giggles, but the production probably didn't have the insurance for that. Alternatively, he could have announced his plans to send dead vermin and dried sperm to everyone, and then let the Batman actor stop him and beat him within an inch of his death. That he didn't makes me believe he really isn't into method acting at all. He lacks commitment. But most of America’s best actors have used method techniques: Marlon Brando, Paul Newman, Jack Nicholson, America's sweetheart Sally Fields, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, HRH Streep, and so on. Given their performances over the years, it's hard to deny the method behind the madness—though it does make it easy to mock. And when it comes to mocking the method, no one did it better than Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder. His Kirk Lazarus gave us the defining line “I don't drop character til I've done the DVD commentary.” I'm sure that was referencing Daniel Day-Lewis's refusing to break character during filming, but most actors don't require that need to constantly inhabit the character. To make a long point short—TOO LATE—the method is fine. It's attention whores looking for reasons to be douchey that gives the technique a bad name. (Yes, I know Jared Leto has an Oscar.) The things that take me out of a movie are when the character finds parking immediately in front of the place they need to go to (really annoying when this happens in a city like New York) and when a character in a big city with an average-income job comes home to a palatial apartment instead of a shoebox. I immediately go, “How?! How can you afford that place?!” and I can't let it go.

ChiefKC

What Spoilers? I have never been spoiled by reading the title of the episode. If anything, it can create anticipation for the episode. Additionally, they are watching the episode at that time so again, not a spoiler.

ChiefKC

yeah, however in that last episode Data said they were only unconscious for 30 secs yet a full day had occurred. Then they spend a day discovering the clues and another day erasing those clues. So in total 3 days have elapsed and Data will say only 30 secs have passed and there will be a big discrepancy between the Federation's, the Enterprise's and Data's internal chronometers.

ChiefKC

They are watching in release order so I suspect that at some time during Season 5, they will be watching it.

ChiefKC

They did two episodes.

gfixler

We've just crossed the theoretical halfway point on our mission. There were to be 26 episodes per season, so finishing episode 13 this week would have been the halfway point through the middle season of the show. However the 1988 Writers Guild of America strike shortened season 2 to only 22 episodes, unlike all other seasons, so we're not quite there yet. With 178 episodes in all (it should have been 182!), we need to clear the 89th episode, and with 74 episodes in the first 3 seasons, that means we need to clear the 15th episode this season to have made it to the halfway point. That's the first episode next week. It's all going by too quickly!

gfixler

It pulls me out of a story when someone from the 24th century says "flimflam artist". By the way, looking up that term, literally the first result was this 😆: https://www.amazon.com/STAR-CCG-ENERGIZE-FLIM-FLAM-ARTIST/dp/B00KO6VM0M And the tenth result was to a snippet of Picard delivering that line. This has been one of my things that pulls me out of a story, when I can suddenly feel that the writer was in their 40s, in a show written in the 80s, and they let slip in idioms that are already fading at the time of writing, like "Give 'im what for," or that something is "on the fritz," things kids today probably haven't even heard. TNG has a good number of them.

Candy Found on a Barbershop Floor

In Hardware Wars, Augie Ben Doggie grabs his head and groans in pain, and Fluke Starbucker says "What's wrong? Did you feel a great disturbance in the force, as if millions of voices cried out and were suddenly silenced?" to which Augie Ben Doggie responds "No, just a little headache."

Heat is a masterpiece

What we see at the beginning of episode 414 is a Klingon martial art called Mok'bara. It appears a few times in the show. It's a meditative art but also the basis of Klingon hand-to-hand combat techniques. It has been referred to as "Klingon Tai Chi" and was designed by martial-arts expert and visual effects producer Dan Curry. He based it on tai chi chuan but made the movements faster and more aggressive to suit Klingon culture.

Chris Davies

Star Wars does use parsecs correctly, it was just a bit of an awkward line. In the first star wars movie when Han said the millenium falcon made the kessel run in less than 12 parsecs, he means that's impressive because of the navigational hazards of the thousands of black holes in and around the kessel system that makes travelling it incredibly dangerous and slow. I believe that's a dangerous, but effective route for smuggling, especially for spice that Kessel produces. So while his response sounds like he's talking about 12 parsecs as if it's a measurement of speed, he's actually just talking about his ship's ability to navigate a notoriously dangerous and difficult route in a shorter distance than most. Granted just from the movie itself it does sound like they're using parsec wrong, it's not a good dialogue choice.

REDR58

Yep, basically he's sayin he's taking a shortcut. "Like, we can get there in less than 10 miles if we cut through the creepy woods".

DuBois (who was Panamanian) is probably most famous as playing the wife of Thomas Magnum (Tom Selleck) in "Magnum p.i." (1980-1988). She was only in 6 movies but loads of big TV shows including "The A-Team," "L.A. Law," "MacGyver," "Murder, She Wrote" and many, many others.

That's what it was retconned to mean, even before the Solo movie. But I always thought a more straightforward explanation was just that he was BSing them to see how naive they were. Trying to fancy talk them, basically. The look on Obi-Wan's face showed that he wasn't buying it.

Something that completely pulls me out of the moment in a movie is when somebody throws their cell phone at a wall because they are angry. I'm not talking criminals and burner phones, I mean "normal" every day people that get pissed off at whoever they are talking to and smash their phone.

Mistaking the Mok'bara for Tai Chi... Simone, wo' DaquvHa'moH!

1:04:28 into the picture-in-picture reaction of CLUES: I know I'm weeks late to this, but yes, hanging a plant COULD explain an injured ligament. Because O'Brien was hanging a plant when everyone was knocked unconscious, so he probably had a heck of a fall.
