posted examples of what QUIP looks like for us in the tech support chat. Didn't want to clog up the other chat or ramble on here to explain it. Figured you'd see it there right away.

Andrew

That must be one of those Canadian pronunciation of words because that's not how I pronounce it or anyone I know. 😂

OddThomas

Apart from some great make-up work, X is just your average TCM wannabe. I liked the prequel Pearl more. A better Ti West film: The Innkeepers (think mumblecore Ghostbusters)

Ashton Lewis

I haven't bothered watching Pearl because I thought X was just an absolute slog to get through and it put me off the rest of the series. Is Pearl actually worth a watch do you think?

sb

What hardware store would you have to ask for caulk?... Just go in there and grab some caulk.

OddThomas

If you want a great horror comedy: The Frighteners

Spacedone

A few horror comedy suggestions as Simone requested: - Bubba Ho-tep (2002) - Renfield (2023) - The People Under The Stairs (1991) - Trollhunter (2010) - They Cloned Tyrone (2023) - more dark comedy than horror but 100% recommended. Also, the TV show 'IT: Welcome to Derry' would be a good short series option.

Jedi Lounger

Simone, what you were talking about is not a movie, it is a series called Margo's Got Money Troubles. It is based on a book by Rufi Thorpe. I have not watched the series yet but the book was exceptional. The series did get good reviews, so it's likely worth watching.

Jose Robles

I mix this movie with project x lol

OddThomas

I think so. If X is a 3 star movie, Pearl is a 4 star movie

blerbaberpaterb

......that assumes every hardware store has the same layout and even if that were true you also have to assume she goes there frequently enough to remember.......sometimes people are in a hurry and prefer to just ask......

Pam Nail

It's not about OnlyFans, but there's a movie called Pleasure from a few years ago that's a more modern look at the porn industry, particularly what it's like for women. I love this movie, and -- unpopular opinion -- it's my favorite of the trilogy (I love Pearl, too, but it's my least favorite of the three).

DonkyDave

This must have been an interesting watch for George given his previous career ;)

Mastervodo

You could see the PTSD on his face during that 1st scene. (Photographer Told to Stay in lane, Dude)

Robert Farias Jr.

I love seeing horror on this channel. This is my only Patreon subscription and I've been a member a few weeks. Have there been polls for horror TV shows like Welcome to Derry or Fall of the House of Usher?

steezo jckson

mia was the mom and the love interest in frankenstein

Brandon

Pearl is actually a lot better than X and I think is pretty damn good.

Brandon

Great reaction, guys! When it showed up on the schedule I figured you would find it just as creepy, funny and sad as you did and I'm glad I was right. Definitely check out 'Pearl' next and 'MaXXXine' after that. Pearl manages to be even better than this and Mia Goth's performance just slays. Even people who didn't like 'X' very much ended up loving it. 'MaXXXine' is about on par with X. So all in all, I think you guys will love the whole trilogy.

maikeru

Idle Hands (1999)

maikeru

There have been polls for horror films but not really for horror tv shows (well at least not since I'm a member and I'm a member for years), just tv shows in general

REDR58

Holy carp, Pomplamoose has been around since 2008. That can't be right?! Anyway, and Conte is not only the co-founder of Patreon (with Sam Yam) and he is married to Nataly Dawn, the lead singer of Pomplamoose. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHoXIQX7j1A

REDR58

I pronounce "caulk" like "cawlk".

OddThomas

Yes to all of these, particularly It: Welcome to Derry

Amar

Watching A24 movies again? This opens a whole new and wonderful world!!

sb

Thanks for taking my immature joke literally. I didn't consider that happening.

Cally

I thought it was pronounced "cork"

Mikebdrx

On the whole Caulk , Cock subject it’s not an issue here where I live I guess because of our accents. Everyone pronounces it like Hawk.

2026-09-05 05:00 Id see this before. But had no idea this was the second film in the trilogy. I’ve seen the first one too pearl. Had no clue they were linked 😂 need to watch Maxine now

maikeru

I started watching the welcome to derry reaction by the badd medicine guys last night (my first time watching that series)

Honky Tonk Badong Badong

1:58 JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy will be using this at some point in the future. ...I just had a flashback to when I was about 4 or 5 years old. My father did DIY/home improvement stuff, and as I was toddling about in his workshop I came across this strange-looking device, I couldn't figure out what it was. My brother said, "That's a caulk gun." I didn't believe him because I could tell he was joking about something. I'm also old enough to remember the Spencer Gifts catalogue, and the picture of a woman lovingly holding a "back massager." I always thought, why is she holding it to her cheek like that? Anyway, folks, don't leave that kind of stuff lying around for children to find. 🎶The More You Know...✸

Simone's Coconut Squire

If you think asking for caulk at Home Depot is awkward for Simone, send George in there to ask for Chinking.

Cam

Pearl is a great watch as well. I’d argue it’s even better than X

Spacedone

I knew there was one I'd forgotten. The Frighteners is great.

Boba Fettuccine

If you guys decide to watch "Pearl" (and I hope you do) you have to stay for the end credits. No spoilers, but I can't wait to see your faces when you see it.

Monica Alarcon

Horror Comedy? Braindead (AKA Dead Alive) directed by Peter Jackson...

Quis

Could u elaborate? What was his previous work?

Maria Forsström

Some nice feel-good movies: Doc Hollywood (1991) Chocolat (2000) Regarding Henry (1991) French Kiss (1995) Stardust (2007) Crocodile Dundee 2 (1988) Three Men And A Baby (1987) followed by Three Men And A Little Lady (1990)

Logan Kerlee

This reaction was great! I had an awesome time watching this. :) This was also my first time watching this movie so I was in the dark for most everything and I'm glad! :) I thought that this movie was going to scare the hell out of me but it didn't have that effect. No, instead this movie was more just pretty creepy. I'm THANKFUL for that! I do not enjoy watching things that stick with me after the movie and make me fearful. xD I just need to avoid crazy old people and I'll be fine. :P Good movie, great reaction! :) Happy to have watched this!

Ste Rawlings

There's a movie called Pleasure from like 5 years ago. I saw it when it came out and haven't watched porn since.

Collinson

Happy Death Day is a pretty good horror comedy along with lesser known The Babysitter (2017) and Freaky (2020).

Twiska Brand

I consider a cheap jump scare to be something that doesn't make sense in the universe. i.e., a ghost spiking the camera when no one else is around. Ortaga jumping up to call for help makes sense and thus isn't cheap. Still a jump scare, but not a cheap one, and I don't think jump scares themselves are bad only when cheaply done or over used.

Twiska Brand

The Girl Next Door is a film about the the modern adult movie industry (at least it was when it came out as the film was set in the time it was released) so there is that.

Twiska Brand

The thing in the trivia about the X rating is true. No film is rated X because X isn't a rating. It just means it has no rating because it wasn't submitted for one. The film industry itself began using that for promotion. X was used for films like Evil Dead and other low-budget horror movies, as well as explicit films and the like that were too racy for an R rating, even if they weren't full-on porn. XX became the self-used rating for soft-core porn (simulated sex with no genital shown), and XXX became the self-used rating of unsimulated sex with clear genital shots. This got the X associated with porn, so films started just saying "unrated" instead for home release versions. Only theatrical films need a rating. Eventually, the NC-17 rating was born, "no children 17 or younger" (they didn't go for the simpler 18+ because that was associated too much with porn.) So racy or violent but not pornographic films could finally be rated for theatres, but the damage was done, and no major theatre chains will show an NC-17 film. In summary, X equals adult only, but not full-on porn, XX equals softcore porn, and XXX equals hardcore porn. Hardcore, in this case, just means actual sex and not stimulated stuff.

m0lika1 .

Another fun fact for this movie is the actor who played Howard played 2 different orcs in the lord of the rings franchise. Grishnakh, the orc that chases merry and pippin into Fangorn forest and Gorbag who gets killed by Sam after trying to loot and kill Frodo

Daniel Bjork

I’ve always considered the Maxine trilogy kind of a love letter to horror movies. X in particular just has tons of homages to famous horror shots/moments

BubblyRainbows

I support all three of these suggestions!

REDR58

X (2022) was first, then followed by its prequel Pearl (2022) and then MaXXXine (2024).

blerbaberpaterb

.....Marquis.....check out their Boogie Nights reaction for the answer to your question lol......

Victor Fiegel

Now that you're watching A24 movies again, you guys should check out "Green Room."

Twiska Brand

I wish the film had gone out of its way to explain why they were doing this, as it's a sort of blink-and-you 'll-miss-it thing. When we see the body in the basement, the camera intentionally shows that his pants are pulled down. Pearl is a rapist, one of the few times I've seen a female rapist is in the media. Her husband is too scared because of his weak heart to have sex with her, so he helps her kidnap lone travellers who rent their boarding house, she rapes them, and then they kill them and dump them in the water for the gator. That's why Howard was pissed that the producer showed up with a group rather than alone, as he'd said over the phone. Looks like Howard didn't want to risk messing with a group rather than just one person and was just going to leave them alone, but Pearl didn't care and, apparently, without informing Howard, decided to kill all of them except Maxine. She is into both men and women, clearly, but apparently not blondes, as said in the film, so who knows how many men and women she has assaulted and killed. Just before Howard dies, he and Pearl discuss how they don't need Maxine anymore, as he can perform again, so they are just going to kill her.

Merlin's Merkin

Seeing this reaction I'll join the chorus and say you'll love Pearl and MaXXXine as well. I really hope the A24 business doesn't stop those watches from happening.

Shibby

Simone when are you starting a DIY show?

Mikebdrx

Another Horror comedy is Club Dread, same people who did Super Troopers.

REDR58

It's a small thing, but I don’t understand why movies and shows can’t get old CRT TV screens to look right. You can always tell it’s comped-in. No matter the budget, it almost always looks wrong and sticks out like a sore thumb. Really annoys me. Just use vintage TV and run whatever video signal through them! Maxine says she wants to be so famous that everyone in the world knows her name, like Lynda Carter's. Lynda Carter played Wonder Woman in the original TV series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ep1pKoDDhA There was a picture of Linda Carter as Wonder Woman on the cover of the August 1979 issue of “High Society” in the basket of things they bought at the “Pedlar” (peddler?) Gas Mart convenience store. Maxine later takes the magazine out of the van. I’ll tell you for free if somebody pointed a shotgun at me and then let me stay at their boarding house I would not stay there. Don’t you remember what Tee-Hee told James Bond about crocodiles, or in this case, alligators? You just put your hand in his mouth and pull his teeth out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LrbTd69iwI Jenna Ortega was about 18-19 years old during the filming of this movie. Not 16. George, those are “briefs,” not a speedo. Tighty-whiteys!

theLandofLiz

Yesss so happy you decided to watch this! Please watch the rest of the trilogy too!!

BellaBlue

very excited for the Pearl reaction...I'm hoping very very soon

BellaBlue

my big hope...and no spoilers...but I really hope they just let THE SCENE play wo comment until it is complete

BellaBlue

really hoping they do Welcome To Derry once they complete the last season of ST

BellaBlue

agree w this..and also my big hope is they refrain from convo during THE SCENE and just let it play out

BellaBlue

extra Mia Goth request outside of the next 2 in this series (which I hope you do quickly)... Infinity Pool

rictus grin

seen and love the first three in your list

Robert Farias Jr.

This is the reason I really love their reactions. Simone screamed so loud the audio clipped, lol. Mike Flanagan is a damn good writer/ director.

zona999

Gonna again throw out a great horror film suggestion. "Under The Skin" (2013) starring Scarlet Johannsen. It's so unique and I think a horror film that will really scare George. He doesn't get spooked by supernatural and other horror genres too much but I think this one might really get him!

zona999

Maxxine was a disappointment but Pearl was great.

Dan

Quip is Patreon trying to be Twitter. Personally I hate all this "every platform trying to be every other platform" stuff. See also Youtube pushing shorts like crazy even though I never watch them, and streams to the top of the supposedly "most recent first" part of my subscriptions page even above normal videos that were published after the stream finished.

pinkdino99

You know this is a trilogy, right guys ? Right ?

JayDee

Please don’t wait long for Pearl and Maxxine

Jamie

That was okay.

REDR58

I think they should just start with Peter Jackson's catalogue with "Bad Taste" (1987) "Meet the Feebles" (1989) and go from there, including The Frighteners.

REDR58

Also "Room" (2015) with Brie Larson and "The Green Knight" (2021) with Dev Patel, both A24 films.

Victor Fiegel

Also "The Haunting of Bly Manor" and "Midnight Mass"

BellaBlue

big fan of Trollhunter

Matthew Blackwood

Cam (2018) is a horror movie about an OnlyFans style porn cam girl, and it’s really creepy and impressive.
