For a Pre-MCU comic book movie the cast is absolutely stacked in this. I can’t believe they got Roy Scheider in a Marvel movie

Drew

‘Punisher: War Zone’ is also worth a watch, if schedule allows some time

Potsi

One of the few marvel movies i enjoy

Maiki

FYI: Theatrical.

Carlos

Punisher: War Zone is well worth a watch. Much more over the top than this. Ray Stevenson plays such a perfect Frank Castle. Also worth looking up the unofficial Punisher short called Dirty Laundry also starring Tom Jane.

Mike FromOz

Ahh, was wondering what the connection was that initiated this watch. Good to find out that the new Spider-Man might not be too far away.

Warmachine1228

There's a Punisher 1hr special called 1 Last Kill with Jon B. That will give you some idea of the Punisher Spiderman sees in his movie

Warmachine1228

"Revenge is a dish best served cold" is from Star Trek II. Klingon proverb

2026-09-05 05:00 Two Things. 1. So this Punisher movie is based on a two comics. One by Garth Ennis (writer) and Steve Dillon (artist) called Welcome Back Frank, and Punisher: Year One by Dan Abnett (writer) and Andy Lanning (artist). Welcome Back Frank is one of my favorite comics, and I strongly advise anyone who likes The Punisher to read it. https://www.amazon.com/Punisher-Welcome-Marvel-Premier-Collection/dp/1302969323 2. George I agree it would be ideal that you guys watch the Netflix series before BND, but that would take a long time. What you could do is watch The Punisher: One Last Kill special that is on Disney Plus. Only 45 minutes, it stands alone, and takes place just after Dare Devil: Born Again season 2, and just before BND.

MCU Punisher through both Daredevil and The Punisher series is absolutely by far the best live action incarnation of the character. But having seen Brand New Day I would say only a rudimentary understanding of the character through this movie is more than enough before going into the new Spidey. I do hope you react to Daredevil at some point on the channel as Daredevil Born Again is fantastic.

Jaaahn

lmao... no its not. its a 19th century French literature written by Eugene Sue translated to English called Mathilde: Memoires d'une Jeune Femme. and before that a version of it already existed in Don Quixote.

Aatxe

Thanks!

Nathan Jasper

Jon Bernthal recently did a one-off special presentation called Punisher: One Last Kill. No previous show knowledge necessary. It tells you everything you need to know.

Matt O'Keefe

I wonder if George has seen the 1989 Punisher with Dolph Lundgren. Have not seen it since the 90's. Just curious. Not a good movie.

Kyle B

I see people generally like this movie, so I don't want to yuck anyone's yum. But, if i'm gonna watch a campy b-movie about a vigilante, it is gonna be Deathwish 3.

Warmachine1228

. In star trek the wrath of khan, which they've reviewed on the channel, khan says have you heard the klingon proverb revenge is a dish best served cold? It's very cold in space

Jaaahn

yeah no i get that... but she asked where its from, not where she last heard it... the phrase isnt from ST 2....it existed long before.

Mastervodo

I like the cast in this movie, and it's a fun one. Doesn't even need to be Marvel MCU canon. "The Russian" is a (now former) pro wrestler named Kevin Nash. You saw him for a brief bit in John Wick! Was also in Magic Mike!

Marko T.

I remember liking this. Please react to Batman Forever (1995) and Batman & Robin (1997). Those could be fun reactions even though I know what George thinks about the latter. They are set in the same world as the Burton movies.

By Grapthar's Hammer, what a member!

The Jon Berenthal Punisher series is fantastic. Brutal and violent. If the Marvel logo wasn't at the start you would never know it's a Marvel product.

Joseph salazar

Fun fact the Russian was played by wwe wrestler Kevin Nash and on accident was stabbed by a real knife on set by stayed in character

funky weapon

- So The Punisher started as a Spidey villain. he was a vigilante hired by The Jackal to take out Spidey back in 1972(?), having been given forged evidence that Spidey was a villain who was terrorizing the streets of New York. This is why Frank is a Vietnam veteran in most of his incarnations as well. It isn't until the third act of this comic that Frank learns the truth and teams up with Spider-Man to take down the Jackal. - There is no canonical origin of the skull. it just looked dope as hell. the magazine holsters for his guns originally acted as the "teeth" of the skull, which you can see even in the modern MCU version of Frank Castle. - He was heavily inspired by Charles Bronsons' Death Wish and Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry. It's easy to forget but back in the 70s, crime was so rampant in New York City that a future like Escape from NY wasn't just possible, it felt inevitable. someone like Charles Bronson or The Punisher was a cathartic release for people terrified by the streets. - Frank Castle is indeed the coolest superhero name. However his family was not born as Castles but instead were Castiglione. Frank's father, an immigrant, changed their surname to Castle to better fit in with the local populace and escape the stigma of being Italian in the early half of the 20th century. Frank was born in the 40s, which would've made him around 30 in 1972. - The Punisher has gone through a few different incarnations. the original which was basically Dirty Harry in comic book form, the 80s where he became a combination Tom Clancy Spy Thriller and mafia boogeyman, the 90s where he became an angel fighting literal demons from hell, and the 2000s which brought him back to his roots with the iconic Welcome Back, Frank storyline by Garth Ennis that reintroduced The Punisher to mainline 616 continuity. Garth then split off from the main continuity to write Punisher MAX, an adult rated (not the George kind) comic book series that took Frank into the real world where there are no superheroes. It's a dark, brutal comic that is responsible for many people believing Frank is a pure psychopath. something that I personally disagree with, having grown up with the 80s and early 90s version of the character. - Punisher 2004 is pretty much all you need to understand Frank in Brand New Day. the origin is slightly different but you can see the throughline. both interpretations have Frank acting far more heroic than he has been for the last 20 years in comics.

Joseph salazar

Also I assume yall will watch doomsday Disney recently released a watchlist for it.

Cartoons ReAct

John Bernthal is the best Punisher, but this 2004 version gives a proper introduction to his origin story...Simone could watch Daredevil season 2 and then the Punisher tv show, as well the one shot Punisher that came out this year on Disney Plus

JoeNotCharles

Star Trek VI also has a joke about reading Hamlet in the original Klingon... Pretending famous lines from literature are actually Klingon or Vulcan proverbs is just a running joke on Star Trek.

By Grapthar's Hammer, what a member!

Spiderman BND isn't available for rent/buy until November(possible later depending on its cinema stay) so you could at least do Season 1 of Jon Berenthal's Punisher. If you did 2 episodes per screening you could even finish both seasons. You dont really need to watch Daredevil as his background is pretty much summarised in the first episode. This one (the Thomas Jane) is really cool but doesn't really do anything as a preparation for BND. Apart from the name Frank Castle everything else is different. Different character background, different events, different motivations, different villians and a completely different feel.

JoeNotCharles

The main problem with this is it came out right after the Denzel Washington revenge movie Man on Fire - I think they were even in theaters at the same time. I definitely watched this one about a week after Man on Fire, anyway. It's more of a drama / thriller until the action ramps up at the very end, but still if you have the choice to see Denzel Washington on a rampage or Thomas Jane on a rampage, most people will choose Denzel. (No offense to Jane, who's been great in everything I've seen him in, but his casting in Arrested Development as "actor you didn't recognize until he told you his name and then you vaguely had an idea you'd seen him somewhere" was spot on.)

bfunk3778

These messages over the screen make these reactions impossible to enjoy. Can’t see the scenes.

PureGonzo

The Netflix Punisher series is the best series that Marvel has ever put out IMO. Jon Bernthal is absolutely brilliant. He fleshes out the character and deals with real-world issues in a way that no other version does. I would highly recommend checking that out – not just in preparation for Brand New Day, but also because it’s the most grounded character study I’ve seen from the “Netflix-side” of Marvel.

Jaaahn

yeah its almost like its for copyright or something...

Matt88g

The Russian in this movie is one of the villains fighting for professor x sister in Deadpool and wolverine

Victor Fiegel

If you're not going to watch the show, you should at least check out "The Punisher: One Last Kill." It's under an hour, and it sets up his character well for the new Spider-Man movie.

Kickinthescience

The Punisher was definitely toned down alot in Brand New Day with Spiderman being kid friendly and all

Ben Stevens

Joining the chorus calling for the Netflix series. Bernthal as Frank might be one of my favorite performances of all time in the MCU.

Forkbeard83

George having the Simone experience.... "I remember nothing of this..."

Mastervodo

OH! I just remembered where I saw Frank's wife, Samantha Mathis! She was the "Eat me Beat me lady" in Pump Up the Volume!

Twiska Brand

While I really enjoyed tricking the villain into killing his wife and best friend, then letting him know what you did before you killed him, part of me thinks they did that because they didn't want to have the main character kill a woman himself. Personally, I would have had no issues with him doing that. I think she was the worst one out of all of them. She was the one who brought the family into it.

Twiska Brand

I was hoping this would have been mentioned in the trivia, but I'll say it here: you guys have already seen Thomas Jane's Frank Castle. He made a cameo in Spider-Man 2. When Mary Jane is running away from her wedding at the end, she passes by him, and he looks at her in confusion. Edit: Turns out it wasn't Thomas Jane. 😭 It was his stunt double from this movie. I always thought it was him and now I'm big saj.

Jamie

You'll be telling us Shakespeare isn't best read in Klingon next.

Cartoons ReAct

Punisher Dirty Laundry is a 10minutes short, so you guys could watch it and also watch the Punisher One Last Kill which is about Jon Bernthal's Punisher some time before Spiderman Brand New Day

Robert Carter

Was this movie ever going to be a favourite with critics? No. Was it going to be seen as “a masterpiece of cinema”? No. But goddamn is it a fun movie. I must have seen it about a dozen times

Skyruff Creative

The original punisher version in the comics was a break any law you die type character. He killer murderers and jaywalkers. But part of the persona proved popular enough for a revamp into a more moralistic antihero. What makes him an antihero hero is his goal. He set out to kill. He is not trying to arrest anyone or wound only to prevent the crime as we see with spidey , captain America and of course daredevil. Punisher (these days) cares about the lives of bystanders but gives no thought at all to property damage even of the innocent to achieve his goal.

Robert Cooper

If you're going to watch a pre-MCU punisher, "War Zone" is really the only one I would have suggested.

REDR58

Yeah the MCU series/Daredevil is the best way to get a handle on this incarnation of the character…

REDR58

First watch Deathwish.

baxio87o

you could react to Punisher: One Last Kill. directed by Jon Bernthal its basically a catch up for MCU fans

Kyle B

Nah, Cannon Films delivers on 3 lol. Its not good, but it is relentlessly fun.

REDR58

Having seen everything in the MCU multiple times (with the exception of "Secret Invasion" which I watched once and then promptly removed from my brain as it is so awful), I think the idea of "homework" of needing backstory is overblown. Not because I know all of the different backgrounds, but because just about everything in the MCU can be enjoyed and understood without having seen anything before it. Everything you need to know about The Punisher in "Brand New Day" can be gleaned from the movie itself.

Monica Alarcon

A certain scene from this movie reminded me of Desperado by Robert Rodriguez. You should totally watch it....

REDR58

Speaking of, both Death Wish (1974) and Dirty Harry (1971) should be watched here.

Gizmo_Mogwai_

"emotionally I'm so well" then the maniacal laughter was truly disturbing 😅😅

Ashton Lewis

You should definitely do the Punisher series (although Daredevil first would be ideal/preferable) - You can do it on Wednesdays ;)

DM DC

You would be incorrect there. Chaotic Neutral would be more Deadpool. The Punisher- at least this iteration wouldn't be chaotic neutral. I would say he's between neutral good and chaotic good. I myself would put him more on the Neutral good side. Chaotic neutral is more someone that is typically out of their mind. An alignment reserved for those that aren't necessarily evil but also don't really look out for the well-being of others. Someone a bit crazier. The Punisher isn't crazy. He's broken but a sane person who believes the law has failed. He's more ordered and structured and methodical in his pursuit of punishment for the guilty. Something that wouldn't be chaotic. But he's also working outside the law, so not lawful either. This is my favorite iteration of The Punisher. I love this movie. The Punisher with Dolph Lundgren 1989 is good but definitely darker in tone. Definitively a different take on the character. I haven't seen War Zone. I wasn't happy with a new casting for The Punisher and as I mentioned this version is my favorite. Hot take, the series on Netflix, I wasn't really a fan of it was okay, but I have to say that Jon Bernthal's take on the Punisher didn't really capture my attention as much. I won't really go into details as to why so not to spoil anything. The show is worth a watch, it just didn't really hold the same candle as this movie in my mind.

ZachAWSUMNESS!

The punishers father played in Jaws, the punisher played in Deep Blue Sea. 2 Big shark movies. Just a fun fact

Monica Alarcon

The Russian had one of the weirdest and funniest transformations in the comics ..

akaTheBAY-AY-RON

The way the Punisher was used in Spider-Man BND could have easily been one of those things the MCU does sometimes where they introduce a character from the comics for the first time as a side character in another character's movie, and they're already established post origin story, and as a viewer you'd go "Cool, The Punisher" and just assume you'll get to see some of his back story later.

Boba Fettuccine

I hope you feel better soon, Simone. George, you were right about the guy playing Bumpo. He was a comedian named John Pinette.

ProjektElltrix

Punisher One Last Kill could be watch. Gets the vibe of John Bernthal's version of the character really well in 45 Mins.

Raven Blackrose

I have lots of opinions here: Decent movie, though I always found the change to fed instead of retired soldier odd. Enjoy the characters from the welcome back Frank arc in here. War Zone is probably the best live action punisher, feels like a Troma production. The Netflix show is... bad. Often very dry in a "we're trying to Be Serious kinda way", more like one of those generic tough guy special forces cop shows that America produces 10 quadrillion of. I mean, 2 seasons and the full painted outfit doesn't show up until the end. He was great in BND though. Jon Bernthal is just a Thin Blue Line Support The Troops meathead kinda guy, which colors a lot of the MCU stuff. Best take on the punisher in any medium is Garth Ennis' Punisher Max from the 2000's, with The Slavers being a top five Marvel arc for me.

Ghostdm

You have actually seen "The Russian" before. He was one of the bad guys, who worked for Cassandra Nova, in Deadpool and Wolverine. Different actor though.

djKENTO

WarZone > This.

PureGonzo

It was so good that I don’t even consider it an “MCU” performance. Remove it from the Marvel world entirely and it’s still amazing.

Lloyd Franklin

This is my favourite Punisher film, the directors cut is a lot better than the theatrical version.

Raven Blackrose

As for the uniform: the canonical 616 outfit is a full black shirt and pants, white gloves and go-go boots. The reasoning is It Looks Cool And Skulls Are Scary

Jeff Smith

You’re my hero ❤️

Lloyd Franklin

You're correct Simone, it's actually the same actor playing both characters.

E G

thomas jane made for a decent punisher, shame the none of the characters were anywhere near lore accurate. I think the ray stevens movie does a better job at creating the truly unyielding, single minded, alone on a warpath punisher.

djKENTO

Punisher's logo is from his time in Vietnam. He fought a sniper called The Monkey who would paint skulls to taunt the American soldiers and Frank painted one to taunt him back. It's dumb and a bad story and Marvel has moved away from it since you know... Vietnam was a clusterfuck and it makes Frank look real bad.

Robinson vs. Parkinson's

I remember reading the issue with the pop-sickle and the blowtorch. That was damned creative. Unfortunately, that's about the only thing the writers managed to bring to the screen in this film. I wouldn't say it's bad, just really the wrong tone. They did a better job on the character of the Punisher in Punisher: War Zone with Ray Stevenson, but the movie was terrible. Like this one, they can't seem to avoid hammy, over the top villains and ridiculous stunts. I know I'm in danger of tripping the "eerrmm, actually..." alarm here, but I collected 2 or 3 punisher titles for a few years when I was in high school, and dammit, this ain't him. Castle isn't dark and brooding, he's fucking haunted with terrible PTSD and even though he's psychotic, he's cold as ice and 100% tactical. Victor Fiegel mentioned it below, but One Last Kill is better, even though it's basically a short film. In my opinion as a lifelong fan of the character, John Bernthall really nails the character, so I'm sure he'll deliver like he always does. Now whether or not Marvel Pictures will allow a script with the real Punisher to hit the screen is another big question mark. I'm cautiously hopeful, though. I mean hell, Punisher's first appearance is in a spiderman comic, so fingers crossed. It goes without saying that you guys still manage to make a movie that I've never really cared for actually fun, and we all appreciate you!

BigGuy209

i'm happy that they did watch this movie cause I love this movie but if they wanted to understand Jon Bernthal Punisher, they could of just watch the little mini episode that Marvel released in June this year and I doubt but I'd be impressed by but i doubt it that Georgia has seen Dolph Lundgren's the Punisher from the 80s.

Dorian Cantu

To answer George's question: Yes there is an in-universe origin for the Punisher's logo (in the comics). during the Vietnam War, Frank was hunting an enemy sniper known as "The Monkey" who wore a monkey skull medallion. Frank escaped capture and painted a white skull as a psychological taunt/calling card before eventually hunting him down. Afterwards he kept it as his vigilante symbol. Because Marvel exists on a fictional sliding timescale (where in-universe they're always in the present day without aging, like the Simpsons) they had to update the war in his origin as time went on (it started off as the Vietnam war, then the Gulf War, then the Iraq war), then to avoid constantly having to retcon it every decade to stay consistent with modern readers, they changed it to a war in a fictional country in central Asia called "Sin-Cong" and all Marvel characters with a modern war origin story (Punisher, Iron Man etc.) take place in the "Siancong War".

Dwight Scarn

This had its moments but I was underwhelmed. I thought he was too stoic. Jon Berthal is perfect!!

Kieran Hawk

I prefer Jane's Punisher to Bernthal's. Frank Castle should be dead inside and Bernthal is too emotional. If you can cry you can go to therapy. "Dirty Laundry" is a 10-minute short Jane and Ron Perlman did for fun, and yes you should watch it. It's a love letter to the Punisher character and a what could have been.

Richard Church

As cheesy as this one can be, I like it and Thomas Jane is a great Punisher. It's a shame we never got another movie with him, but there is The Punisher video game where he voices Frank and the short film Dirty Laundry which was made independently by him and others. You should check that out, there's a cool cameo in there you both will enjoy! And while I agree watching all of Daredevil and Punisher will be a lot for the schedule, just watch the latest special Punisher: One Last Kill to get a feel of Bernthal's Punisher. It's a short he actually helped write!

Ben Stevens

it honestly only fits for me as an MCU storyline because of the multiversal shift in storytelling they've done over the last phase. I also really dug Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage, the heroes at the ground-level; and even though the serialized legal drama/detective/cop show has been done to death in the US since 2001 and even prior to that, they all kept me invested. I don't think every hero show or movie necessarily fits a stereotype, and that there is still room for nuance and appreciation of the performances and productions.

Glenner7

I thought George was the PUNisher...

Lloyd Franklin

The proverb "revenge is a dish best served cold" traces back to 19th-century French literature, appearing in Eugène Sue's 1840 novel Mathilde.

TurnerK

Love Thomas Janes Punisher. The tie in video game bck in the day was my favorite. Glad yall watched this. Hopefully more Punisher stuff in the future! I recommend Deep Blue Sea and Dreamcatcher for more Jane.

Jayson Phillips

In the comics, Punisher lost his family to mobsters, they were in Central Park having a picnic and I don't rem if the girl was flying a kite or playing with a ball but it ended up in the middle of two mobsters fighting over territory and they killed his 2 kids and wife and almost killed him, and that created the punisher, him and his sidekick Microchip would kill mobsters and take the money for equipment and guns, also he was a Viet Nam vet . The Jon Bernthal Punisher is the most accurate one to date. My fav comic was the Punisher vs Wolverine.

Brandon

Laura Elena Harring as Livia Saint. ❤ I think the only thing you would have seen her in before was Mulholland Drive as Rita, with Naomi Watts. First time watching this one, but it was ok. I love that there's a scene showing that his Dad modified a bunch of guns so you know his guns are better than what his enemies are using. 🤣 Punisher has never been one of my favorite comic characters. Mostly because it can be really hard to make an entertaining bloodthirsty character while portraying what a tortured soul he is. As a result, the Punisher's logo has unfortunately been co-opted by police officers who have an... interesting view of what their job is supposed to be. On the other hand, some of the better writers of the comics have actually had the character address police officers in-universe that idolize what he does. Matthew Rosenberg wrote this back in 2019: "I'll say this once. We're not the same. You took an oath to uphold the law. You help people. I gave all that up a long time ago. You don't do what I do. Nobody does. You need a role model? His name is Captain America and he'd be happy to have you." The cops give him shit, "You started something. Now you don't like people following in your example? Too bad, tough guy." "If I find out you're trying to do what I do, you're next." He makes it clear that it's an intended threat. Then the cops get called away by something on their radio. As they leave one of them says, "Good job, Castle. Now you don't got a single friend in this city anymore." The best run in the comics, IMO, was Garth Ennis's run on Punisher Max. Ennis also wrote 'The Boys' and 'Preacher', two of my favorite R-rated comics of all time.

Frank

You should watch Alpha Dog for a great Ben Foster performance.

Jayson Phillips

I wish you could see him in Daredevil season 2 and the punisher series, my fav Marvel hero. I was in the military and lost my wife and son, so my life kind of mirrors him but they didn't die from villains so no one to punish.

Brandon

Speaking of Ray Stevenson, the next actor who played Frank Castle, he happened to do a movie with the director of this version of Punisher called 'Kill The Irishman' which I think is worth a reaction. It's a gangster flick based on Danny Greene, a real Irish gangster in the 70's. It also stars Val Kilmer, Christopher Walken and Vincent D'Onofrio. D'Onofrio of course plays Kingpin, another villain that The Punisher frequently gets tangled up with with in comics and in the Daredevil series.

TurnerK

The game was soooo good

Aric Heintzelman

"Revenge is a dish best served cold" is an old Klingon proverb.

Cc Decc

what was that movie he did with Chris Pine? That one too.

Deadly Ramon

I'd label Punisher as Neutral Good, at least when written by Garth Ennis. He does meticulous detective work to ensure the guilt of the villains he targets, and goes to great lengths to prevent the incidence of collateral damage for any innocent people in the vicinity. His tactics against his enemies can get extreme, but so are his heroics, like when he helped a civilian caught in an IRA bomb blast in Manhattan in the Irish Kitchen storyline from Punisher MAX.

Brandon

Yeah, I think the most hardcore fans of this kind of thing have a way of making people feel that need to do that homework when it's usually not required. The new Lanterns series is a good example. It's parsing out the information the audience needs as they go, while longtime fans are noticing certain little details. As a longtime Green Lantern reader, I would not expect people to read all the comics I have in order to enjoy the show.

Andrew

Fun fact. Punisher has been both an angel and a monster in different iterations of the comics. He gets rebooted more than a buggy PC.

Frank

Hell or High Water. That's a great movie. Good call

Jonathan Eaton

George, Bumpo was comedian John Pinette.

Lovable Lowlife

The scene where he sang in the diner I believe is a reference to a old western, Jack Slade.

Jeff Smith

Fair but I don’t see this as campy lol.

Cc Decc

Still my same reaction to this one. I'm good for revenge flicks, but this one just lacked style. Plenty of familiar faces. There's some grit. Plenty of things that COULD have had style. But things that should have been cool fall flat instead. Gotta blame it on the director I think. Think you could have given this same script to a better action director and gotten a lot more stylish movie out of it.

Prince Mora

Funny they mention Dolph Lundgren since he was in the first Punisher movie in '89. But the Thomas Jane Punisher movie was played on a loop at my house in the 2000's on HBO/Cinemax before on demand. Thomas Jane also played Colton White in my favorite old west video game classic "Gun". He had a short role in Fight Club and strangely reprised that role in the Fight Club video game. He was also memorable in Boogie Nights when he lost it trying to rob Doc Oc lol

REDR58

Yeah and speaking of the comics, I haven’t read a comic regularly since the mid-late 1990s so source material doesn’t really matter to me. I’ve no idea and don’t care about story elements being “comic accurate” as a lot of people talk about. Knowing all of this background stuff is great and there are almost always Easter eggs in the movies and shows that people who are super familiar with everything will get and that’s there for them. But casual fans should have no problem watching a random MCU movie (well, maybe not Endgame without watching Infinity War) but not seeing shows doesn’t really matter. It just all adds to the flavor, but it’s not essential.

Holdenk

You are correct about the guy you think is a comedian, George. His name was John Pinette, and he was amazingly hilarious. Check out his material, it's great. Sadly, he passed in 2014.

FranciscoGios

Mind you I've only seen the 1989 The Punisher. The way how I got introduced of this character was because of the title from 1989, plus a young me was trying to become a detective or a cop. I heard Jon Bernthal's Punisher in the show is more gruesome and bloody.

REDR58

Largely agree with all of this. Very little here worked for me.

REDR58

Also Halle Berry…

REDR58

I can't believe S&G didn't recognize him!

REDR58

Roy Scheider.

REDR58

Speaking of Troma, I think some of that is worth a watch here. Maybe the newest "The Toxic Avenger" with Peter Dinklage would be the most accessible to the most people here? I dunno. It's a great film.

When Frank comes returns home with his hair back to normal, he looks like he's stepped right out of "Grease." While Castle's family is getting dispatched, his wife tells their son they should run to the Jeep and then they go to a Chevrolet Blazer. Do people call a Blazer a "Jeep"? I know Jeep is sometimes used generically for any relatively small, Jeep-like vehicle, banded "Jeep" or not, but I've never heard anyone call a Chevy Blazer a Jeep! Probably dwelling on that too much... Quentin is played by Will Patton who was also in Armageddon The Punisher skull fire parking lot thing just did not work either. It’s too silly. I prefer “Marvel humor” to what we get here. I think they consistently keep a good balance of that over most of the films. Then again I continue to be all-in with the MCU.

Wow. Every year that goes by, I'm amazed at how much of our culture has been replaced by pop culture. Unreal.

I'll repeat myself when I emphasize how much better the Garth Ennis story on which this film was loosely based. Take the Russian, for example: he's almost comically buff in the comic, and talks a lot while he's throwing Frank around his apartment. He reveals that back in Smolensk he is the founder of the Daredevil Man Without Fear Fan Club, and that he once made either the Incredible Hulk or the Thing cry like a little girl. Punisher finally defeats him after getting thrown into Mr. Bumpo's apartment, noticing that Bumpo has a stack of hot pizzas from Sal's (which is right around the corner), tosses one into the Russian's face, and takes advantage of the Russian's disorientation by tossing Mr. Bumpo's enormous belly (Bumpo is much more massively obese in the comic) over the Russian's face and suffocating him for 30 minutes just to make sure. Joan is a quiet and mousey woman instead of a hot waitress, and Spacker Dave has a lot more facial piercings.

George: What makes you think he's low on the morality spectrum? Simone: Well, there's the skull thing. Punisher: Am I the baddies?

This is probably my #3 favorite pre-MCU Marvel movie after X-Men (2000) and Spider-Man 2 (Raimi), because I was a big Punisher fan when I was a kid, I had one of the Punisher #1 comics, it was stolen of course, but I mowed extra lawns for that comic lol, I just remember it was the one with him still in his white gloves and GoGo boots phase. Anyways... I like my anri-heroes physically vulnerable, he's just a really honestly pissed off guy with guns and he goes after evil MFs. He's a working class veteran Batman, with a lot of trauma in every version and a justifiably shitty attitude towards injustice after even the justice system fails him, that's in the comics too. (In this version, he's kind of, uh, DIFFERENT, in other versions, no GoGo boots). RIP John Pinnette, Bumbo, he was a very funny stand up comic, he was the heart of The Friends of the Punisher.

Last year I found the game at a convention and bought it, replayed it on my 360. I forgot just how much fun it is!

Dish served cold was man on fire and desperado has a sex scene with fade to black cuts 🙌😆

We need a Batman & Robin and Pootie Tang double feature!!!

Great reaction to this movie. I always liked Thomas Jane as Punisher. Punisher Dirty Laundry was made years later but is amazing he slipped back into character so smoothly and it’s only around 10 minutes. I also liked Punisher:War Zone Ray Stevenson did fantastic work as the Punisher. And Jon Bernthal does incredible work in the series. Each of them personifies a version of the comic different artists and writers version or idea of The Punisher. All are worth watching. P.S. there is a scene in one of the earlier Spider-Man movies I can’t remember if it was Toby or Andrew were Thomas Jane as the Punisher is walking in a crowd and looks into the camera. Very cool.

Fun fact. When Castle stabbed The Russian (Kevin Nash) in the chest they accidentally used the real knife instead of a retractable prop.

If you can get your hands on it, there is a fun Punisher video game where Thomas Jane really shines doing the narration. This Punisher went for a more "grounded" take, which wasn't bad... well maybe the skull logo in the fiery wreckage was a bit much while the Ray Stevenson went full on comic book crazy, which I have learned to respect more and more since it released. I will add in to the chimes of watching One More Kill as it should give you a good enough road work of who he is, especially after this. Yes, Dirty Laundry is worth watching and it is only 10 minutes.

What I love about this movie is HOW Frank gets his revenge. He doesn't just run in and chop / shoot people to pieces, he sows distrust among his enemies and makes the main bad guy turn against his own friends and families and basically ruin his own life.

Kyle West

People always bring up Face/Off for Travolta as a villain, but I’m actually more partial to Broken Arrow.

You should definitely watch the comedian, John Pinette was too funny -- "I'm Starvin' " & "I Say Nay Nay" are both so good.

Can y’all do The Hulk 2003 please!!!

Two things on this movie. First, the technical issue. I had this movie buffer for me about 200 times during my viewing. I have watched other Cinebinge stuff without any issues, but this one was a pain in the ass. That being said, I did not give this movie a chance when I saw it in the theaters. Mainly because I saw this as the second in a double feature beginning with Kill Bill Vol. 1, and nothing would be at full power after that movie. Watching it with you both made me appreciate it more- well, minus the buffering.
