Here we gooooo Fun fact: the author of AoT said Falco’s character design was inspired by Jesse Pinkman since he loves Breaking Bad There’s another Breaking Bad easter egg later this season so keep vigilant!

Jaaahn

base on this guys past behavior during OAD episodes, i would suggest doing the opposite of what he recommends.

J C

on the youtube page for S4E01 the streamable link links to 402 instead

TurnerK

Aww shit, here we go fam

eZTarg8

I felt a deal of sympathy for Reiner in the earlier seasons as he wasn't sadistic (he did something awful, but he was clearly broken by that... Zeke took immense pleasure in the killing he did, and though he has sympathetic origins...he chose sadism. I really liked how they fleshed out Reiner more in the first few episodes

Rainy Days

I would have really loved to hear the intro song for the first time reaction to it... I'll ask that you leave in the music for the Rumbling intro, when we get to that part of the season!!! PLEASE 🙏 👀

TONY T

Would love for you guys to check out these anime after finishing AOT: Mob Psycho 100 Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Hunter x Hunter

Reed James

They do listen to the music, they just mute on the watch along for reasons I can't figure out. I just started playing the intro on my end.

Reed James

They said it had been 9 years since they first attacked Paradis. Seasons 1-3 the bulk of that takes place 5 years after that attack. Further, Zeke says this 4 year long war is because of their defeat because they lost the Colossal and Female titan. So we jumped 4 years.

Rainy Days

"I think we're done with basements." Actually, there's a very important basement scene coming up very soon, just ahead in the next few episodes 😆

Rainy Days

I didn't say they dont listen to it 😊 I know it well enough that I can hear it in my head. Besides the point. I just want to listen along is all.

djKENTO

Hey George and Simone, season 4 is a totally different animation studio than the first three, so if things look different or feel different... that's why. It was Studio Mappa, and now it's Studio WIT. Both are award winning.

Yari

Then just play it along on your end

Yari

The Mid-East Alliance would probably be the equivalent of the Ottoman Empire.

eZTarg8

I think because the music counts as an entire piece of art in of itself, it can be argued that it's not sufficiently transformative content, just playing it during the reaction, unless they spent most of it pausing and talking over it and specifically about the music. (and do that every time) It's contestable, but also a muddy area. That'd be an added aggravation that I'm guessing they don't need, on top of all the difficulties with youtube. I feel you though, as I really want to hear these intros too

Dragonhunter

It's the other way around. Season 1-3 were WIT and Season 4 is Mappa.

Lee Meehan

You poor innocent souls.

djKENTO

you're right... I just rolled out of bed ha.

Reed James

Not sure why the Anime doesn't show Annie using the Female Titan's scream to attract all the pure titans to flood through the breach Berthold makes like the manga does.

newhastings

The scene with Kenny and Annie was to show how actually close Annie was to finding the Reiss family

eZTarg8

I would love it if they could do a post finale reaction to the intros and outros (with subtitles on for the lyrics as they have so much foreshadowing), as I think that would count as sufficiently transformative content... and we can really get in the feels with all that awesome music

For anyone confused about WHEN this episode takes place, here's the timeline: 845 — 9 years ago: The Colossal Titan and the Armored Titan attack the Walls on Paradis, destroying Shiganshina and breaching Wall Maria. Marleyans call it the "Operation to Retake the Founding Titan". 847 — 7 years ago: Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Reiner, Bertholdt, Annie and the others join the 104th Cadet Corps. 850 — 4 years ago: The events of Seasons 1–3 take place. 850 — 4 years ago: Annie, the Female Titan, is defeated and captured in Stohess. 850 — 4 years ago: The Scouts retake Wall Maria and win the Battle of Shiganshina. 854 — PRESENT: Marley captures Fort Slava. This is where Season 4 begins. So yes: there has been a FOUR-YEAR time skip since the end of Season 3. This episode is happening four years after the Battle of Shiganshina. P.S.: When Zeke tells Reiner, “This war happened because of our defeat,” he's talking about Marley's failed operation on Paradis. Marley relied heavily on the power of its Titans to dominate other nations. But during the Paradis operation, they lost the Female Titan and, at Shiganshina, the Colossal Titan as well. Reiner and Zeke returned to Marley defeated and without the Founding Titan. The rest of the world noticed that Marley had suddenly become much weaker. The Mid-East Allied Forces saw an opportunity and declared war. So, in a very literal sense, the four-year war we see ending at Fort Slava exists because Reiner, Zeke and the other Warriors failed on Paradis.

2026-10-12 22:00 About Simone's call for clarification about Eldians shared memory: At this point in the story, we actually don't have much more information about WHY Eldians can share or inherit memories. The best explanation we've been given so far is the one Eren repeats while he and Mikasa are imprisoned after returning from the Battle of Shiganshina: "It's as if all the Subjects of Ymir are connected by something we can't see. One inheritor said they saw paths. The blood and bones that form a Titan, and at times, even memories and thoughts are sent through those paths. All the paths cross at a single coordinate. In other words, that's... the Founding Titan. Every single Subject of Ymir is connected to that coordinate.”" That's basically the maximum amount of information the story has given you at this point. For someone who has already finished Attack on Titan, that explanation is actually a remarkably good summary of what is going on. But if you're experiencing the story for the first time, it's completely normal for the full implications of Eren's words to still be difficult to understand. The series has given you the mechanism before giving you all the context necessary to fully interpret it.

Lots to say about this season in just the first 3 episodes 1. Change in animation and studio not planned but ironically works so well for the show, all the colorful wimsy is gone now the grity yellow grey tones once we see how the world truly is 2. When watching people react to AOT and finding out that is was Riener and Burrito behind the attack is fun but no one really puts it together they are just kids. If they are the same age as Eren or close they would also be the same similar kid age when breaking down the walls. So many hidden details that make so much sense put together. Watching a second time is so worth it but even so watching it with another person who's new to the show is just as amazing with the information you now notice given the fact it's all there

Beginning_of_a_new_era

I waited so much for them to see eren and then they are like this is someone right 😂

Inkpendude

"Hmmmm that is someone" lol

MariaP

Yes, she was looking for Reiss family and Kenny was close with Uri, the king at that time

Adam Vialpando

The scene with Annie and Kenny was because she was following him to find out where the Founding Titan is. Remember, they wouldn't have any way to know Grisha already took it at this point. When he catches her she tries to make up some bullshit story that he already knows is bullshit.

Adam Vialpando

I remember at this time in the story fans started making jokes that Isayama was keeping Reiner alive only because he was the only character that wanted to die.

newhastings

It would’ve been Rod who was king since this was post invasion and the whole family would’ve been killed by Grisha at this point. Kenny still would absolutely know where the hideout is though

SANAMDEEP

need them to react to hunter x hunter so bad

MariaP

Oh yes, you are right!

My_Cousin_Mose

I think Mappa did a great job with titan animation but i hate how most of the main characters look.

Dev Zeno

I will say ALL of the titan names and forms ARE very related relevant and specific. Keep in mind

Brendan Falvy

I’m pretty sure you have seen the Founding. You see Frieda as the Founding through Grisha’s memory of him eating her, when Eren is touched by Historia and Rod Reiss in the underground cavern. And you briefly see Uri poking out of his Titan form in Kenny’s flashback to their meeting. It’s just that neither of those transformations indicate the Founding has any obviously unique physical traits, which might be why you guys don’t recall them.

Rainy Days

They played the outro in it's entirety.

Rainy Days

I always look at Subjects of Yimr as "who are they most closely taking after? Fritz, or Yimr?" Cause they're always like one or the other. Zeke definitely takes after the King. Loves violence for the sake of violence.

Twiska Brand

The interaction between Annie and Kenny is fairly simple. She was sneaking around the capital, as she said, and started following Kenny, who by this time was a member of the Military Police and worked directly for the royal family. When Kenny caught he spying, she lied and used the cover story that she was searching for her father, but Kenny made a promise to never have kids, so he knew she was lying.

Conor Walters

George I know you're reading this, and I gotta say it tickles my brain hearing you say bondsmith and founding titan in the same sentence.

Benjamin Trewin

One moment I think always gets overlooked in S4E1. Return fire from the Marlian fleet Without hesitation Riener shields Zeeke Riener collapses Without hesitation Zeeke steps over Riener as he falls The siege of Fort Slava is just... *Chefs kiss

eZTarg8

That's an interesting way of looking at it. I like it

Elias Smith

I'm glad we finally hit S4 Eren, aka what George would look like as an anime character
