I know this is very old, but Elon Musk chose to name his fastest car "Plaid" based on this movie.

🖤Good catch on noticing Lone Star who was the "Han Solo" character was dressed more like Indiana Jones, George. And it was intentional. When Mel Brooks asked George Lucas permission to make this movie, George Lucas agreed but had some stipulations Mel Brooks had to follow. One was if he had a Han Solo inspired character in the movie, George Lucas didn't want him to be dressed like Han Solo (not sure why Han Solo's outfit specifically was off limits tho). So to be funny Mel Brooks decided to dress him like Indiana Jones because it's not just a character Harrison Ford also played, but was also a Lucas Film Character. ca-LASSIC Mel prank! LOL. So good catch. I've loved this movie since I was a kid and never noticed until about a year ago. I saw a random Tiktok where someone did a video that was something like 'random facts about the movie Spaceballs you may not know' and that was one of them. XD

Ohhh, you both rock!! I'll be watching this later today.

Have you guys considered doing like a tier list or ranking of the movies you've watched? Might be some fun end-of-the-year (or beginning-of-the-year) content🤷‍♂️

The Inedible Mattman!

Oh so George Lucas was asked by Mel Brooks if he could make this film. George said that's fine, but Mel wouldn't be allowed to merchandise the film. That's why Mel put in all the merchandising jokes. Mel Brooks is famous for his self referential humor. Being Jewish, he often makes fun of Jews (as he does everyone). It's always in good fun, and as a Jew myself it has helped me define my own heritage and sense of humor. You should definitely consider watching Blazing Saddles, Robin Hood Men In Tights, The Producers, Young Frankenstein ... honestly just watch ALL the Mel Brooks films hahaha

The man who made all those great noises is Michael Winslow and if you want more with him, you should watch Police Academy. Also, the twin blondes and the “chew your gum” line is a reference to the Doublemint gum commercials.

Transformers came out in 1984 and it's initial cartoon run went to '87. You guys should seriously do a reaction to the 1986 animated film, Transformers: The Movie! It's one of the most 80's things you'll watch. Fantastic animation and a killer 80's soundtrack!

Highly suggest continuing with Mel Brooks. My personal favorite is History of The World: Part 1.

Just got finished watching. Holy crap, I loved this reaction!! I've watched this movie so many times in my life. It's one that I frequently recommend but people rarely actually watch it. I'm glad you both dug on it! :D May the Schwatz be with you!

EDIT I WAS WRONG, JOAN RIVERS, BUT STILL LILY TOMLIN CHECK HER OUT: 'Dot Matrix' was Lily Tomlin, a pioneering female comic, also seen with Steve Martin in 'All of Me' (another good movie for your channel?). 'Barf' was none other than John Candy, also known as Gus Polinski, the Polka King of the Midwest, from 'Home Alone'.

Mel Brooks was Jewish, and always included a lot of very *in* in-jokes from the (particularly New York) Jewish culture. 'A Druish Princess' was a pun on 'Jewish Princess', a Jewish woman that demanded to be treated like royalty. Also also, 'Funny, she doesn't look Druish' is another joke on 'Funny, she doesn't look Jewish' used to insult the ethnic heritage of people claiming to be Jewish but not having the typical physical features. This was controversial, since the great Jewish diaspora (after Jerusalem was sacked by the Romans in the first century) scattered Jews all over the Roman empire, resulting in marriages and children of various ethnic backgrounds which confused things for people who continued to adhere to the old Mosaic law code that prohibited marriage with non-Jewish people. As a result, in our day many people can claim Jewish heritage but not 'look Jewish enough', so the remark 'they don't *look Jewish*'. The Beatles also punned this remark in 'Yellow Submarine (1968)' movie, which featured antagonists called 'the Blue meanies', who remarked at one point 'funny, you don't look Blueish'.

Michael Winslow is a legend, and I've never seen anyone with his vocal effects abilities since. He was also a famous stand up comedian, and the whole act was sound effects. Some don't even sound possible from a human mouth.

Oh, and ICYMI, the legendary John Candy, who played the mawg Barf (Barfolomew!) is also the polka king at the airport, who rode with the mom to Chicago in Home Alone. Random aside: the mom in Home Alone, Catherine O'Hara, is also the mom, Delia, in Beetlejuice. I had such a little schoolboy crush on her in that movie in 1988. Two other classic John Candy movies are Uncle Buck (and one of the kids in that movie is Macaulay Culkin!) and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, where he starred alongside Steve Martin.
