The first poll we got confused and thought Last Crusade was the 3rd movie, turns out we missed Temple of Doom. Cant change a poll once its live so we're doing it again! Sorry~Last weeks winner was The Hunt for Red October! We will be filming it tonight and it should be ready for Patreon by Thursday.Until then, here is this weeks poll with your suggestions as well as returning 2nd/3rd place titles from previous polls.Cheers!

Hehe. I think those results would be much different if people knew they were voting for Temple of Doom. It's not bad but it's not nearly as good as 1 and 3 were. And please just don't even consider 4. That film was never made.

Jon Johns

Just to be "that guy"... Temple of Doom is the second movie released, but takes place before the 1st movie in the timeline. 🙄

This is a great list. Everything on here's worth watching. Yall've got some good stuff to look forward to.

Kelly Pickard

I daresay one of the blockbusters will get picked first, but I do hope they get to The Fly sooner or later. It's a hard watch but it's SO good.

Off-topic: You've specifically mentioned director John McTiernan when reacting recently to Die Hard and Predator, and you'll be watching his The Hunt for Red October. I would recommend also watching The 13th Warrior (1999), which he was the first director of (Hollywood!). It's probably the movie most considered "underrated." Happy New Year!

Two things to keep in mind about The Temple of Doom: (a) Many people dislike it. (b) Many people are wrong. Seriously though. In Doom, Spielberg and Co. essentially set the volume meter to 11. They go full-on with the horrific atmosphere and effects to the point that if feels like Indy has been inserted into a horror movie. They also go all-in on the exaggerated and intentionally cartoonish tone of much of it. I think if you know going in that this rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, you'll set your expectations accordingly. And hopefully with that, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the audaciousness of it all, the inventiveness of some of the sequences, and the fact that Ford is so clearly giving it his all.

Don't get discouraged by Temple of Doom; Indy 3 is much better, much more like the first one. Same thing happens in the Back to the Future series; 1 is great, 2 is meh, 3 is great.

Some people tend not to like Temple of Doom as much as Raiders or Last Crusade, but most still like it. It was actually the first Indy movie I saw. I'd say its only problem (my opinion) is a weak female lead this time around, compared to Marion in Raiders. Other than that, I think it's just as fun as the others. - Also, if I can throw in a couple of other recommendations: 1) Pleasantville (1998), starring Toby Maguire, Reese Witherspoon, Jeff Daniels and William H. Macy. - 2) The Karate Kid (1984), Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita and Elizabeth Shue. Maybe for YouTube you'll have to call it The Karate Unfinished Adult. - The Karate Kid Part II is great, too. Personally, I like it even more than 1. - 3) You watched The Sixth Sense and saw Haley Joel Osment's acting. Another one he did around the same time was A.I.: Artificial Intelligence. Also worth a watch.

I don't know if anyone has recommended Kick-Ass (2010) but I think you guys would enjoy it.

I would only vote for Top Gun if that means they get to do Hot Shots afterwards

Michael_AP

Hmmm, maybe I should vote for Top Gun, just to see how Simone will react to the volleyball scene ;-)

Travis

I would also suggest "The Prestige" 2006, 2 competing mages in 1900. Would be a good one if you haven't seen it.

I have a difficult and painful relationship with Temple Of Doom. I was in elementary school when that movie came out and got relentlessly bullied by fuckheads from my class because of how horribly stereotypically it depicted Indians, India and Hinduism. All of what I now know and understand is part of the gross exoticism of the 30s and 40s adventure films and serials. So I guess if Indy is a tribute to those films it wouldn't be the same without some gross cultural stereotypes. On the other hand it's part of the Indiana Jones series and he's part of the Canon of Fictional American Heroes, punching Nazis and shit. So yeah, complicated.

Githerax

I happened to rewatch your Roger Rabbit reaction and Simone mentioned Contact- I can't remember if I mentioned it before, but please add it to a poll, it's amazing and you will both love it.

Steven Cavanagh

I just realized, Highlander is not on this list of great 80s movie suggestions

Thomas Malley

You guys will die from watching Robocop. That movie will just blow your minds, if you truly have never seen it.

RogA

Let's go Robocop!

Travis

I wish "Commando" had done a little better. It's a non stop action/comedy, 3-5 minutes between at most between comedy and action . Another first person shooter (your view) "Hardcore Henry" (2015) is filmed from a headset mounted on the main character. It was hard to get used to, but different.
