Watching the episode now guys. This show, and the other Star Wars shows coming, are mining the Extended Universe of books, comics and games that existed before they were made non cannon in 2013. The new cannon, so new Star Wars stuff after April of 2014, is in line with the newer movies. The show takes place several years after Return of the Jedi. The driver at the start of the show was comedian Brian Posehn. This show has endless cameos, so watch for more. You never actually see Nick Nolte. I have spoken. The droid is what’s known as an IG unit. They are sentient assassin droids. You have seen them before, at the Bounty Hunter meeting Darth Vader holds in Empire Strikes Back. The droid in Empire was IG-88. The baby is known as Baby Yoda, but it is not Yoda. Yoda is 100% dead, and is a force ghost. You will learn more later. The Mandalorians are absolutely a species/people, they have a planet, a history and everything. I could answer some of your questions about them, but spoilers. You will learn more later. The creature in episode 2 is called a Mudhorn. Vibroblades are kinda like Lightsabers for regular non force users. They come in lots of shapes and sizes, from knifes to something like swords and katanas. As to your discussion about the force after the show, remember that the Galaxy is a big, big place, even with light speed space travel. Solar systems and planets everywhere, trillions of people. The vast majority of those people scratch out an existence living in difficult conditions, to put it mildly. The Rebel Alliance is a tiny fraction of the population, and even most of the rebels never saw a Jedi in action. For most people they are legends from a bygone era (The Old Republic, approximately 4000 years ago). During that time period Jedi were plentiful and walked the streets without issue. The more recent history of the Jedi is marred by their “betrayal”, according to the Sith. After that happened the Empire spent 20 years wiping all records of their existence. So stories are passed around for what happened to the Jedi, and how the Empire collapsed. It’s easy to see how much of it gets lost in time. Edit: I forgot to mention that the world and CGI effects in this show were created with Unreal Engine 5. All of the backdrops and visuals behind the actors? CGI. There is a metric ton of CGI in the show, but it’s very hard to detect.

It makes me laugh to watch you guys watch these and I so badly want to answer your questions in real time like I'm actually watching it with you lol. smh

Jon Johns

Everyone else is going to say all the things I want to say... But I think you both will be interested in the behind the scenes of how the show is made, from the new "cgi" effects, to the practical 'muppet' effects, to the innovative 'location' shoots. In addition, the 'guest' directors of each episode, and all the deep-cut easter eggs sprinkled through out the episodes. I think of this show as a "love-letter" to the fans. Tsukka!!!

POSTALMNDCLARITY

You're doing the Lords work. Saved me a bunch of time because I was about to explain a lot of that, myself!

Ironclad Nomad

Hey. HEY. Predator released the same year I was born and I'm most definitely NOT 50, lol Anyway, glad you two are getting into this series. It's a lot of fun, a really good extension to the Original Trilogy story, and really good at merging the minimalist style of the OT with the comparatively cutting-edge effects of the Prequels.

George, re: single-player games, one of my favorites now is the 'Hitman' series; take your time, sneak around, be murderously creative. That could be a thing for Simone to try, since Hitman 3 is (hopefully) coming out on Steam soon and could have a lil SEO in Feb.

Githerax

And the joke about Lucas saying Yoda is 'the baby of Kermit and Miss Piggy' is because Jim Henson (voice of Miss Piggy and Kermit) built and voiced the original Yoda. EDIT: I was wrong, it was Frank Oz.

Prof. Writhms

Simone mentioned how "real" the Razor Crest ship looked when it was landing in a scene. That's because they went old-school Star Wars, using practical effects as much as possible. All the ships in the series are models. I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. You're in for a treat!

Christopher Greenley

No spoilers. But, throughout the entire series. Some characters from The Clone Wars animated series. Will appear throughout the the 1st and 2nd seasons.

Christopher Greenley

Cool fact. One person who voiced a Clone Wars character. Actually gets to star in the Madalorian. As the same character!😎

Well as for my first Watch Along for a show with Cinebinge I enjoyed it. You have very smart and knowledgeable SW fans ( Hint: the 1st commentator) and beyond. The Mandalorians would choose a side to but they are neither Foe nor friends of the Jedi\Sith. The Clone Wars series & Rebels series have the info you need to know more about The Mandalorians.

All of the sets are not on location. They use a 360 screen and film in the center. It's called "The Volume", it’s what gives this show such a unique look. They are filmed here in Atlanta on the Disney/Marvel Studios.

Great introduction to the series! I'm very glad that you both are watching this, now. :) Most all of this and what you both are discussing is all common knowledge for me. I grew up absorbing all of the Star Wars info that I could. It's just good stuff! I've read a number of the bounty hunter books as well as played most if not all Star Wars games. Star Wars is super cool and I'm very happy to watch this with ya! :D Do you know what the schedule will be as far as uploads for this show, since it's a Patreon exclusive? I'm looking forward to more!! :)

David Crabtree

There is no "on location" filming for the Mandalorian, it's all done on a virtual set technology called Stagecraft. Check this out for how it works.. https://youtu.be/gUnxzVOs3rk

Florian Hoyer

remember the baby is 50 years old and the original movies are just a few years ago so the baby was around while the movies happened and can not be a reincanation xD also ur first guess of his name was groga ? intresting xD

This show did something that I never thought it would do and that was make me care about Mandalorians. I just never cared that much about the whole Mandalorian thing until this show came out! It also got me to start loving Star Wars again, because around the time this came out I was so sick of all the shit around Star Wars. All the arguing around The Last Jedi just made every single Star Wars thing online become very annoying. Being a fan was starting to become a bummer. Whenever this show came out every single fan of Star Wars loved it and was able to enjoy it and it made being a Star Wars fan fun again.

Chris O'Rourke

Frank Oz was the original Miss Piggy as well as several other muppets. He's the one who voiced and puppeted the original Yoda.

Thomas Yanez

I'm late to the reaction, but I'm always surprised how people seem to forget that most of the Jedi were killed off long before "A New Hope", and the rest were in hiding and that in that movie there are multiple instances of people that don't know jack about Jedi or The Force. Since this takes place something like 5 years after "Return of the Jedi", there would still be a dearth of info on the topic among the common people.

Jintaku L. Gilme

having played Star Wars Kotor Mandalorians played a huge part in the story and they are some of the tougher early game fights.

Haverford West

Yeah, very little was known about the Jedi, even in Episode 4. When Obi Wan says "Jedi Knight" you can hear the quotation marks in his delivery.

Chase Schleich

If the Secret Service were all killed in a coup, we would all remember it 20 years later. The Jedi were everywhere during the prequels. They were guardians, they were a kind of federal police force and they were part of the Clone Wars. Everyone knew they used lightsabers and the Force. Then they were massacred. They weren't a secret group, always working in the shadows who were secretly killed. People not knowing about Jedi or the Force less than 20 years after their massacre is just weird.

Ridor

If you go back into Legends content, the Mandalorians fought many battles against the Jedi. Most notable laid out in the Knights of the Old Republic era with Revan. Which kind of lays the groundwork on why the Mandalorans aren't fond of Jedi. But to be fair, the Mandos were one of the few 'normal' people to actually challenge Jedi on the same footing. If you get into Legacy of the Force series where Jaina Solo even trains under Mando's to defeat her brother who's gone evil it expands even further on the Mando lore.
