Loved the reaction! (As always). When you’re done with the Godfather trilogy, you should watch Analyze This, it’s a delightful play on all the mafia movie tropes.

Godfather 3 is NOT a bad movie by any stretch. It may not be as good as 1 and 2, but its probably one of the best third movie in any trilogy imo. You will be missing out if you dont watch it.

Also check out 'The Freshman', with Matthew Broderick and Marlon Brando, for a funny spoof of The Godfather

If George thinks this movie has long shots, then he should watch "Once upon a time in the west" by Sergio Leone. That's a movie that really takes it's time. And music by Ennio Morricone makes it a masterpiece - in my eyes :) I'm in for "You got mail". With all the things Simone has had to endure, it's just fair that George must endure some love..... till he get's all queasy. LOL

I think they may need to work up to "Once Upon a Time in the West". It's one of my five favorite movies. I find it absolutely riveting, but for people not accustomed to Leone's aesthetic, it can be slow. For people who are accustomed to the aesthetic, it is mesmerizing. I think watching the Dollars trilogy in order, then watching "Once Upon a Time in the West", and then watching "Once Upon a Time in America" is the way to go. It's great that they watch these things with headphones because, you're right, the music of Morricone is just haunting, invigorating, and engrossing (all at the same time!). There are many great film composers. He is the only one who crafts work worthy of inclusion in the repertoire of orchestras.

REDR58

I would recommend they instead watch The Godfather Coda .

I wouldn't say Morricone is the only worthy of an orchestra, but I surely regard him as the absolute master of movie scores. It's a disgrace that he never got an Oscar for one of his works.

While I'm not the biggest fan of this type of movie, bit too slow paced for me, it is absolutely a masterpiece of a film. Some of the best cinematography ever put to film and top notch acting all throughout.

Mitchell Smilie

In my opinion, this is a perfect film. And with all of the things that can go wrong with a production (and this film had its share like any other; even bad movies require a lot of effort to be made), the fact that it is so captivating from start to finish no matter how many times that I watch it and that it remains so appealing to people 50 years later is remarkable. Words like "genius" and "masterpiece" are thrown around a bit too much for my liking when it comes to art, but this film demands all of the superlatives it receives. Even more astonishing is that the second film is arguably better.

Peter Hudson

Godfather 2 is interesting, half of it I like better than this film and half of it I like less; certainly a masterpiece though. And 3 could have been better if the actor playing Tom signed on for it, the story for that sounded fucking awesome

The major problem with Godfather 3 was Sofia Coppola's acting performance. It wasn't very good. However in Dec 2020, for Godfather 3's 30th anniversary, they released a new recut that "included changes to both the beginning and the ending of the film and some re-edited scenes and musical cues." "Coppola said the recut film is the version that he and Puzo had originally envisioned and that it "vindicates" its status in The Godfather trilogy, as well as his daughter Sofia's performance. Both Pacino and Keaton gave their approval to the recut film, noting it as an improvement over the original film." It was titled "Mario Puzo's The Godfather, Coda: [The rest of this title is a spoiler]" I haven't seen it yet, so I can't vouch for it.

You should watch Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992). Its directed by Coppola too.

Rob Parry

Excellent reaction. I think the 1st Godfather is the best of the 2 but Godfather 2 is also a must see. Number 3 is not a bad film but pales in comparison to the first 2 and came out much later 1990, the same year as the far superior Goodfellas.

Rob Parry

Yeah I like Godfather 2 a lot but not anywhere near as much as I like Godfather 1 although I know it is the favorite of many. Love the Deniro scenes but the rest on the movie is a step below Godfather 1 for me. Still a must watch.

Jain Thorne

I agree that you should watch "You've Got Mail". It's a good rom com. I know George doesn't want to watch Rom coms but there are good ones. I would also recommend When Harry Met Sally and a much lesser known one called "Sliding Doors".

My dad always loved these movies so I bought him the collection for Christmas but he never opened it so one night when I was bored I put it on. Best movie I ever saw. The end gave me goosebumps as he shut the door. I watched them all and I've never watched them again as I don't want to ruin the perfection they were. I've not watched it again until now and I got chills as he shut the door again. My favourite movies of all time. Really looking forward to you seeing 2 and 3. 3 is not dogshit, I loved it as much as the rest as it brings Michael's life full circle.

I need to watch the sequels. I have only seen this one. I played the Godfather game a lot that EA released in 2006. Its a fun game.

Igor Vodopyanov

If you'd like to watch another great mafia movie, I advise you to take a look at "Miller's Crossing" by Coen brothers.
