Hope you guys come back to these!

It is weird that they've still only watched this one. It's been a year and a half. It either performed really badly or one of them just didn't like it.

Odd Thomas

The prequel comes out soon so the perfect time to finish the Hunger Games series!

Juley

I’m so surprised you never did the rest of these! They get much better - especially the 2nd and 3rd films.

King_Panarisi

Didn't realise you were going to do this movie. Great surprise!! Also there are 4 movies not 3 of wich the 3 and 4 are part1 and 2of the same name. (edit: you guys found out there are 4 movies at the end)

David Martin

This is the only one of the movies with so much hand-held video.

JediLounger

This movie is one director, Gary Ross. The other 3, soon to be 4 movies, are directed by Francis Lawrence. No relation to Jennifer. Hunger Games is pretty good as a movie, the second one, Catching Fire, is legitimately incredible. Mockingjay part 1 and 2 are pretty good. In terms of why the government does this, the games are used as a tool to keep people afraid. The story takes place in what is left of The USA after the collapse of society.

I almost sheded a tear when I saw this 😂. It's like u guys are playing Kamau bingo of my favorites. I love hunger games and didn't realize you were doing this. All u guys need to watch Korra and that's all my favorites 😂. Can't wait to watch

Guillermo Antonio Ricci Alvarez

I would like you to watch the rest of the movies,as they said not that much shacky cam anymore on the next ones

Eik104

Watched Battle Royale as a kid (probably too young). Was japanese with no subs but I remember it being so immersive that I felt I understood all of what they said. Haven't seen it again since but I should

Craig Brennan

You must do the rest of the series.

TheGuy

Great reaction! I agree, you should go ahead and do the rest of the series. I would also like to add another Gary Ross film to the list if you don't already have it, Seabiscuit, released in 2003.

khaliqtessi

Nice watch. I wonder has anyone suggested Canadian Bacon to you?

The Maestro

So I've seen some people say the Hunger Games is a rip off of the 1999 novel and 2000 Japanese film Battle Royale (which I highly recommend if you haven't seen it) but the author of the Hunger Games has said that she was inspired by the story of Theseus in the minotaur's labyrinth.

Mike Adams

Can't put my finger on why, but I feel your next movies should be October Sky and My Girl.

She read about Theseus in a book and thought 'I should also write a book'?

Brian Harris

Catching Fire is a surprise masterpiece, so much so that the series feels a little uneven in quality.

Erica

I enjoyed your reaction! I hope you two continue with the series.

Mike Henderson

This was a nice surprise. You all should definitely watch the whole series. I know no one like reading anymore 😉, but the books are excellent.

Panem is an old Latin word meaning "bread." It comes from an ancient quote "panem et circenses" in which a Roman poet said that if you give the public bread and circuses (games), the public will ignore the terrible way the government actually treats them.

David RedEagle

A few thoughts, first being you must continue. It gets so much better, the next film doubles the budget and the 1st was fairly cheap as sort of a test bench. Lots of young adult books turned film haven't done as well as Hunger Games did but they didn't know that yet. Next a lot of things like the shaky cam were done on purpose, I mean we are talking children fighting to the death in a Hollywood film so it was done to avoid things.

Jack Urmson

Excellent video! The next three are worth checking out too. Other movies with Jennifer Lawerence like Winter’s Bone and Silver Linings Playbook are really good. Some outlying movies in a similar genre are The Road Warrior, Ready Player One, and Gravity.

Emily Gray

The shaky cam was intentional to make you feel like you were there in the arena and then to cause confusion and exhibit chaos. The next movies really dig into the plot and have less shaky cam.

Yeah, The Borne Identity really mucked up fight and action scenes for audiences for the decade following its release.

Jonny Lowther

I don't get why my version of the movie (on netflix) is about 10% faster than yours. It gets out of sync with yours after just a few seconds. Any ideas? It's happened on a few movies so far.

At least for me, going back to the series I think the other movies (esp Catching Fire) make each other much better as a whole. Meaning I think I like even the first movie more after having seen the others, even if it’s not the best of them. Not sure I’ve thought that about any other series.

Kate Suhr

Really hope you guys watch the rest of them. I enjoyed rewatching the movie while listening to your reaction to it. I don't remember much about the other 3 movies but looking forward to watching them again.

I have found that the run time for movies are different on all the different platforms. Getting out of sync happens often if you aren’t watching the same version. It is really annoying!

db

Is this shaky cam issue a recent thing. Skaky cam in this movie is nothing compared to Band of Brothers. Don't recall you saying you having an issue with that

tryin_gosling

imo the next film, Catching Fire, is a perfect sequel. Meaning it improves on the first film in basically every way. Looking forward to that reaction!

Peeta being called his name while being a baker is not a coincidence. Distict names are often sorted by the parent's occupation or the District's character. Peeta is named after his parents' occupation (one of his brothers is named Rye) while Katniss and Primrose are both plants. Katniss' mom is a healer, and in district 12, where one cannot afford doctors, "medicine" is basically edible plants. Other disticts name their kids after the distict's main production. Rue is also a plant, characteristic of district 11. District 1 tributes, Glimmer and Marvel, are classic names for a district that produces luxury.

Oouga

If I recall the book correctly, the three fingers, kiss, and salute was a District 12 thing to honor someone at a funeral. It was being done in defiance of the Capitol when Katniss volunteered for what looked to be her inevitable death, as a respect from the rest of her district. There had been NO volunteers from 12 ever in the entire run of the games, so she was the first ever to volunteer to die.

Daniel Horsman

I hope we get to see your reactions to the other Hunger Games movies!!

David Martin

Every time I watch this I have to watch Catching Fire immediately afterward. It's like The Godfather Parts 1 and 2. Catching Fire explains a lot.
