...the ultimate instance of being left standing at a crossroad in life...

Angela D. Mitchell

This is one of my desert-island movies (ha!) -- one of those 4-5 movies I would happily watch for the rest of my life and still find meaning in it. It's just such a gorgeous and underrated film, and the final third always moves me so much. Note: In an interview, Tom Hanks absolutely confirmed his personal belief that Chuck goes back to the Angel sculptor's house, they talk about what he went through and fall in love, and, according to Hanks, "he's gonna go back and have babies with that lady." I do love the sculptor, and love that in the beginning, she is sculpting to an Elvis song (Chuck's favorite) -- one more sign they are soulmates.

At the crossroads I always thought he chose to go back to her house. The smile on his face at the very end was confirmation of that choice. It wraps up the movie on both ends. It starts and ends with the Angel lady.

Wilson deserved a best supporting actor nomination. Such a snub. If you guys want to watch more recent Hanks, Greyhound is incredible, and super tight at 91 minutes.

Ian Forbes

Great to rewatch this with you both. Philadelphia and Captain Phillips are probably my two favorite Hanks performances that haven’t been reacted to yet.

NY152, Simone? Seriously? Nice; and such elegant timing too. And also, now we know what Simone watches to decontaminate her brain after Chernobyl. By the way, do y'all have 'Joe vs the Volcano' on yet? If Simone hasn't seen that yet, she *has to*.

For Tom Hanks weight loss, they actually stopped filming for a year. Zemekis actually went and made another movie, What Lies Beneath, during the filming hiatus.

Torsten Maekler

It is not only that Tom Hanks carries the whole movie - during the time on the island there is no music. They had to convey emotion without it; which was a deliberate choice - and I must say, the right one (and I am a film music enthusiast). That black cat of Simone is also gorgeous. Ruffling it on the belly... :-)

Wow, since joining your Patreon not long ago this is the movie I've most enjoy watching with you guys, great movie and great reaction... it's like watching with good friends... thank you so much...

btw, I just googled: Sea salt is a natural antiseptic and anti inflammatory that for thousands of years has been used in wound cleansing. Remember the expression, “throwing salt on a wound?” That's because that's what people actually did to clean out infected cuts, and scraps.

Liquor & Swords

If you happen to be looking for emotional movies, I *highly* recommend Apt Pupil and Sling Blade, if you haven't already seen them! Crossing my fingers!

Joits

someone make them watch the Superbowl "Castaway" Ad!

I worked at a movie theater when this came out. We would have boxes of tissues ready at the end when people exited. 😢 Haven’t watched this in quite a while. It was a joy watching it again with you two. ❤️🎥😊 Some other dramas to check out: Ordinary People (1980) Terms of Endearment (1983) The Right Stuff (1983) Rain Man (1988) Witness (1985) Broadcast News (1987) Say Anything…(1989) & More with Tom Hanks: Bridge of Spies Captain Phillips Charlie Wilson’s War The Post

I’m at the 30 feet of extra rope part, and Simone’s right. Super dark. But also, he carved that wooden dummy. And made the rope. The time consumed for those two. Which means, he patiently made everything and then afterwards climbed the hill. 😵

Daryl

That was suchhhhhhh a great reaction, great movie. Tom hanks such an amazing actor. I think one of my favourite parts was, there was no music throughout the time he spent on the island up until the very moment he left, and then the music kicked in. So emotional…

Zemeckis + Hanks = Grown ass dudes crying over a volleyball and not even ashamed lol Also, I realized the movie is titled Cast Away, not Castaway, don't think I noticed before, a castaway is a person lost and alone, but calling it Cast Away, is like, he was cast away, thrown away, but that wasn't who he would be defined as, a Castaway. Maybe I'm reading into it too much Also, seeing skinny Tom Hanks again was weird, did bring back memories of 80s/90s Hanks when he was still just a comedic actor, before Philadelphia and Big made him a huge star. Also, The Burbs and Joe versus The Volcano are two of the best underrated Tom Hanks movies, Money Pit is another but it's SO 80s formula rom com, he's funny of course but it's kinda schlocky overall, but the Burbs and Joe Vs the Volcano you guys gotta check out.

That whale was the true hero, kept waking him up, even to save Wilson 💔 RIP. For another harrowing lost at sea type story involving a whale, but in this case true, look up the Essex, that story was the inspiration for Moby Dick. Pretty much the quintessential man vs nature story, but the true story is of course more interesting than that, whales are super smart, and probably wiser than we are.

MacGuffinStuff

Ron Howard made a movie about it, it was okay, not as gruesome as the real story but, In The Heart of the Sea. Meh. Master and Commander, now that's an action movie about the sea you gotta see!

"How long can his raft last before the salt water rots it?" Long enough to colonize Polynesia!

JoeySnowyNoey

I watched this movie for the first time as a kid, and I remember being so emotionally wrecked by it for a while. I love this film, it's so good.

Bucky

I'm sorry. I haven't even watched the whole video yet, but can we talk about the You've Got Mail reference at the beginning. I didn't even know I knew Tom Hanks character's username until it was said out loud.

Githerax

And check out Simone's reaction to 'Godfather'. Since Tom Hanks constantly references it in 'You've Got Mail', she knew all the quotes but not the context and it was funny for her!

Captain

Please do Captain Phillips!
