The Godfather Part 2 - Patreon Version

as far as a series goes if y'all are ever interested, there's a one off mini series called "The Offer" it's on Paramount Plus, basically ten episodes regarding the making of The Godfather, really interesting to say the least, stars Miles Teller worth a reaction sometime in the future maybe 😁🤷

Todd Rush

I really like you guys, but you talk over important dialog quite often. It's frustrating to someone who loves the movies because you miss a lot of really cool details.

BangDroid

I'm jonesing for part 3. I mean I could watch it myself lol but where's the fun in that? 😅

Beddoe

I finally watched full version reaction. The movie would have been much funnier if Clemenza & Vito had stolen a wagon-wheel coffee table instead of a rug. Simone will understand that joke.

Ian Tellam

No subtitles on the uncovered version make this difficult to follow the parts in Italian.

Cinebinge

ah thats a mistake, must've forgot to toggle on subtitles when exporting. will replace when possible

Erwin Quiachon

I love how this installment reveals why Vito loves Tom Hagen and that he never really wanted to be in the mafia from the beginning. He only wanted to provide for his family and keep them safe. He had every reason to hold the mafia in contempt since he was a child.

Cinebinge

thats a great point, we hadn't even considered that Vito would hate the fact that he had to become the very thing that killed his family!

If you are interested in high quality Pike&Shot fantasy you might want to give Walter Jon Williams' 'Quillifer' books a try. It's set in a fantasy world (very) loosely based on Tudor Europe, and features a protagonist that's modeled after the real life Giacomo Casanova with a bit of Francis Drake added to the mix, who is haunted by an extremely power- and spiteful goddess that constantly gets him into trouble because he insulted her by refusing her favor after he unwittingly summoned her during one of his misadventures.

Mike Adams

I may have missed it, but have Simone and George realized Connie is Adrian from Rocky?

David Murray

Love the speechlessness at the end. It had the exact same effect on me the first time. Perfect cinema.

REDR58

They did not comment on it nor did they apparently notice the actor (Joe Spinell) playing Willie Cici was also in Rocky.

REDR58

Great reaction. The both of you should definitely watch “The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone” (released in 2020, this version supersedes the original Godfather Part III). Make sure to watch that version (Coda) as opposed to the original released version.

Sean Novack

PLEASE watch "The Freshman (1990)", starring Matthew Broderick and Marlon Brando. Now that you've seen these films I think you would get a kick out of it!

Githerax

It'd be cool if they did it back to back with this, so we keep the flavor.

JarHead0351

It was cool to rewatch this thru your eyes. I forget sometimes that you aren't from the US and what we take for granted that most know this story line.

Githerax

Finally got to watch along, glad you liked it! I was thinking it was interesting to note that there was never any exposition, never explaining what they were really thinking. I think that's what makes it so captivating for 3.5 hrs; you have to pay attention to every line. And even characters in the story weren't fully informed, partly because they kept lying to each other; Michael himself was in the dark about some things until dummy Fredo opened his fat gob. And he couldn't shake his suspicion of Tom at the end there even where there was no threat, he hates that he can't control everything so he squeezes too hard. So much of the music was Italian-inspired; in fact, there's a musical phrase at 2:55:25 that *I recognize but can't place*, it's the same chords as an opera song or aria *I can't quite place it*. Can anyone here tell? Please it's driving me crazy! Speaking of which, Geeoooorrrge, how about an opera sometime? A great one that is easily enjoyable by newcomers, has a couple of versions available on Amazon Prime, and is *set in China!* is 'Turandot' by Giacomo Puccini. Of course, it's Imperial China as interpreted by a 19th century Italian, so historical accuracy maybe not so much, but it's beautiful music. The music might be prohibitive, but you could make it a Patreon exclusive? Or maybe just share it with Simone sometime, I think you'd both enjoy it.

JD Nevesytrof

Absolutely watch the third...it has what I consider possibly the best scene in the trilogy.

Githerax

I found the bit of music that it reminded me of; they're not quite identical, but there's a little similarity there- forgive the rough editing, I just threw these together quick and dirty: https://youtu.be/rEHsOyPgmEo

Erwin Quiachon

I agree. The ending of Part 3 has the single most emotionally powerful, best, scene of the entire trilogy. Pacino and Keaton are even more devestating in that final scene of Part 3 than they are in the famous abortion scene of Part 2.

Sisyphus

Great reaction as always, but this one was special. So... George, you put this in your top 3 of all time (so do I). What are the other 2? Maybe put a poll out there for us to guess?

Cinebinge

haha well one is pretty easy to guess cause its right behind me. but the other one i'd be surprised if anyone can guess it cause its a Chinese film.

Jim Johnson

Fun fact about the scene at the end. James Caan (Sonny) demanded the same amount of money he got for doing Godfather 1 to come back for that one scene. Also Marlon Brando was actually supposed to be in it too but he didn’t show up on the day of filming.

Peter Hudson

I tend to group Godfather 1 and 2 when thinking what my favorite movies would be (since stylistically they're extremely similar, filmed literally 2 years apart with so many repeated actors, and the 2nd one chronologically surrounds the first in a way that makes them feel like one long movie if you watch the segments in that order); and usually it's at #1.

Peter Hudson

Huh, meant to start a new paragraph but I keep forgetting "enter" just posts what you've written so far, haha. Sooooooooooooooooooo - about 5 years ago, after thinking it over and rewatching City of God I think that's the only film that surpasses The Godfather, so I recommend it highly. Not religious at all as the title may suggest, it's the true story of a journalist growing up in an incredibly turbulent ghetto (favela) near Rio in the 70's, and even now almost 20 years after it was made it's hard for me to wrap my head around the genius of how the story was laid out. Kind of like a combination of Goodfellas and Boyz N the Hood mixed with Heat/smaller-scale-Saving Private Ryan firefights. Only movie that ever rivaled Godfather in my mind

J.R.

godfather 3 coda would still be cool to see you watch! especially considering george seems to quite like pt 1/2.
