Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

They are similar thematically, though “The Devil’s Backbone” takes a gothic (in the literary sense) approach to Fascist Spain while “Pan’s Labyrinth” uses a fantasy lense.

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

Good catch on the Francisco de Goya reference George. I always took the mention of not trusting fawns was a nod to Catholic opposition to pagan beliefs (consider how the Devil and other demons are often depicted as fawn-like creatures). Hope y’all check out some more Del Toro at some point, can’t go wrong with most of them but personal favorites are “The Devil’s Backbone”, his recent take on “Pinocchio” and his 2 Hellboy movies are very fun thanks to Ron Perlman’s performance as the titular character.

"The Shape of Water" would be a good follow up for it's mood and scale. People like to argue if The Shape of Water is del Toro's best because it won his Academy Awards for picture and director. Are you ever going to do watch alongs? Those are always fun to review and argue over movies.

The David Bowie movie. That’s adorable

I disagree that the magic was not real. The magic solved the problems of this film, but was not visable to the adults. The adults did not know where to look for the magic, by the last line of the film, because they did not want to look. The magic was not escapism. The magic was inspiration. The best artists, scientists, engineers... are always accused of living in their own world until they come up with the ideas that everyone wants, but nobody else can think of.

This first time I’ve watch in the original Spanish. It was always show dubbed on TV. It is so much better. Changes the whole tone.

One of Del Toro’s best films and his most imaginative for sure. The visuals alone are worth seeing, but the story is pretty great as well.

Adam Wetstein

If you watch any Latin American film they seem to always revolve around death.

Kripke's Corner

Just as a suggestion, Simone and George, you should give some sort of rating at the end of each movie/episode. Maybe call it, "The Cinebinge Score" out of 10. I think it would be fun. I've seen a lot of other Patreon creators do this and think it would be cool for a lot of your dedicated fans to know your final score! :D Pan's Labryinth, I'd give it 8.5. :D

Dragamo

This film was not a sequel, but follows The Devil's Backbone (2001). I saw that before Pan's came out, and it's also very good, but without as much of an effects budget.

Actually Labyrinth would make a great double feature with this movie.

Githerax

There are some times that a double feature would be cool, like they'd watch two movies to compare or contrast them- like maybe Godzilla (1954) and Godzilla (2014) and discuss the differences. Or anything like that.

Stretch

Would love to see you guys react to Master and Commander: far side of the world!

mojo shivers

Love this movie. Wish more from the novels had been made into movies. It’s a worthy franchise.

Michael Hovey

I didn't know Mitch McConnell was an actor

_carlosincharge

I was praying that the YouTube image would be Simone doing that, haha made my day.

Chris Peacock

My 2nd favorite movie of all time. Love it. By far del Toro's best movie. The Shape of Water was great, but not on this level.

Do you have plans to react to Spider-Man: No Way Home? It gets released digitally on March 22 I think. I recommend watching Spider-Man 3 first. :)

wroot

Random thought. Some of the actors were as well in Blanca Nieves (White Snow), which is also a beautiful Spanish movie. And it is black and white and silent (well, with music, but no speech).

Andrew Roach

Always love your YouTube thumbnails, very imaginative and original.

Marko T.

I was wrong. It looks like Spider-Man: No Way Home is available now digitally.
