You talked like you didn't know about the TV show "Kung Fu" w/ David Carridine.

So George was saying that Tom would have no money left after the car accident because he had no insurance. That's not correct, let me educate you a bit on the American Healthcare and Insurance system because while it's far from an ideal system there are some misconceptions about it. Since the cause of his injuries was from a car accident and the other driver was at fault, the at fault driver's auto insurance would be liable for paying for Tom's medical bills. If the driver was uninsured then the onus would fall on the driver. Also, there's a law called COBRA that gives people that were fired or quit their job continued health insurance coverage for up to 18 months after losing their employment, so regardless Tom would have health insurance even if he lost his job. The more you know.

I started out with a film degree so of course couldn't get a studio job right away and ended up temping for 2 solid years, in dozens of similar situations to this movie, all absolutely soul-crushing. I was fascinated by how much of the work was pointless work in order to create more work. Meanwhile, Stephen Root is a national treasure -- as others mentioned, he's superb on "Barry" and in several Coen brothers films, and he was also absolutely wonderful on the little sitcom gem "NewsRadio," as well as in HBO's "From the Earth to the Moon" miniseries (Tom Hanks, well worth watching), "The West Wing," "Pushing Daisies," "Boardwalk Empire," "Justified," and "King of the Hill," plus over a hundred other things. He was also very affecting in "True Blood" and "The Man in the High Castle."

I bet Tom probably "was" important when the company started out 30 years ago, but now he has a secretary who handles the personal contacts he was there for, and no one has really noticed as his job stopped requiring him to do any work, and the Bobs are actually doing exactly the thing you do want consultants for when they figure it out. And poor Stan just wants Joanna to want to wear more flair but he can't say that. And little Milton looks so harmless until you listen to his quiet ranting about putting strychnine in the food and remember he doesn't make idle threats. Everyone in this movie feels so real, every single character fleshed out and nuanced, no one's fully good, not irredeemable. Except Lumbergh obviously. If I had a million dollars I'd buy a little house for myself and my cousin M. Not having her slowly dying of stress to pay rent is my dream. But as to what I'd do with my time, I'm already doing it: writing. I'd just be doing it with a very comfortable chair and a computer from the current decade. Maybe hire a secretary to do the typing haha no but I bet I could get an editor who gets pages out of me.

one thing i always hate is the lady says pass the cake, but whenits time for here to pass she doesnt

This is what I was hoping for this morning. Thank you guys, starting the day off laughing makes it easier. You should also watch Idiocracy. The Kings Quest games are on GoG.com, and they should run properly on modern PCs.

My first job in the private sector after I got out of the Air Force could have been the basis for this movie. My boss wore the straps and had that annoying "yeah" whenever he spoke to us. Hyper redundant meetings and an almost useless follow-up procedure made us all freak out when this movie came out. We were sure he knew the writer or something. I hope this is as funny for you as it will be triggering for me! Don't forget we are using the new cover sheets for the TPS reports now!

Erik Lundmark

I agree with @JediLounger, please add "Idiocracy" to the list :-)

Yeah that thing you said, George, about bosses inventing work for you if you finish quickly- I used to finish my stuff by 2 PM and I'd just wander out and drive home. So they switched me from salary to hourly. Welp, then I found myself 8 hours of stuff to do each and every day, mostly just tinkering with the formatting of my spreadsheets or "double-checking inventory". Good job, managers. You get the same amount of productivity but three additional hours of me smelling your coffee breath made my life so rosy.

Oh and new corporate owners hired consultants to figure out what to change to save money, paid the consultants some bucks, consultants couldn't recommend any savings *because we already ran fine*, consultants recommended improvements that would cost some money, corporate rejected the improvements because "we already spent enough on the consultants". I still have the red Swingline stapler. It's right here on my shelf at home.

Not sure if you noticed but there was another Dodgeball actor … Gary Cole (Peter’s boss) was the co-announcer of the Las Vegas Dodgeball tournament with Jason Bateman.

Einherj

Jennifer Aniston's character's boss is actually played by Mike Judge himself.

Steven Root is one of the best character actors of his generation and one of my two favorites along with J.K. Simmons. The Coen brothers apparently love him because he's been in several of their movies. Ron Livingston would go on to be a supporting character in Band of Brothers which I'm surprised you didn't notice him from. Kung Fu was a TV show that came out in the early 70s. It starred David Carradine who was supposed to be half Chinese. It probably wouldn't fly today but was fairly popular at the time because the martial arts craze had hit the US a few years before it. Bruce Lee was supposed to star in it but got screwed by the studio. The show was about the character wandering the old West in the US searching for his brother. It featured frequent flashbacks to his training in China like this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2yIkDVs0cA

Listening to you guys talk about productivity out the gate really set the tone for this one lmao

I'm glad you took my suggestion and put it on the poll, I loved that you two loved it!, please Watch Hot Rod (2007) another comedy that I know you both will love!

Monica Alarcon

christopher b swanson

do you have a schedule to post? I am waiting for true detective to come back...................

NotlobParrot

"Work slower, you're making us look bad." "We need you to do less." (Actual things I've been told by actual humans in office jobs) I feel your pain, Simone. 🤗

Torstein Skurve

This reminds me you should watch "falling down" with Michael Douglas! Same theme, way bloodier! Oh and "God Bless America" by Bobcat Goldthwait!

Ricardo Alanis

I hope you also watch “Clerks” on the channel, which is the service industry predecesor to this film. Great reaction!

Green Nolan

Lol, I came on to talk about Stephen root on "Barry" (a FANTASTIC show) and to let them know the chochkies boss was Mike judge himself and was beat to it Though, if they like Mike Judge They should DEFINITELY watch "silicon valley" think "office space" in... Um silicon valley

MacGuffinStuff

This is definitely one of my 5 desert island comedies, I'm not for sure on all five but I know they include Office Space, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and the Big Lebowski, just because I seem to laugh more every time I watch those movies. To round out the list I don't know, The Jerk maybe, or The Naked Gun, Clue still makes me laugh, Step Brothers is definitely a contender. Even though I've never really worked in an office (few temp jobs before the Army), I still totally relate to Simone's entire rant about office politics, it's the same in every job I've ever had, the doers do, they make it happen, and the talkers talk, lips and assholes, they use their tongues to rise up the corporate asses, I mean corporate ladder lol What would you do if you didn't need an income? Me, I'd work as a forest ranger and part-time psychedelic horticulturalist, for no pay of course. That or learn to fly small engine planes and become a bush pilot in the islands of the south Pacific. Oh wait, or sailing boats like Captain Ron does, that's a cool job.

David Murray

Simone's horrified reactions to the treatment of Milton are priceless. Great reaction, guys.

Prof. Writhms

This movie continues to be a staple in the comedy movie genre.

Jim Frykman

Lol, this my favorite channel introduction so far. Simone nailed it this time.

The song that begins the credits "Take this job and shove it", was a re-do of
