V for Vendetta - Patreon Version

Since you mentioned the Wachowski's, I recommend watching Speed Racer. It didn't review well, but I think it was misunderstood like Last Action Hero was when it was released. If you want to see a live action anime, I think you guys would like it and I would love to see you guys watch it.

I know this is very old, but this is good information for Simone, and since George purportedly reads all comments please George pass this along to her: Simone HAS seen Stephen Fry in a movie before, in the movie "I.Q." from 1994 (yes the reverse of "QI"). I remember Simone talking about seeing Meg Ryan in a Rom Com with Tim Robbins... Immediately I thought of that movie where Walter Matthau did a pretty good job as Albert Einstein. As I was rewatching "V for Vendetta" and it got to the Egg in a Basket scene with Stephen Fry, Simone said she never saw Stephen Fry before... Well she had, as the Posh Pedant Professor James Moreland, Meg Ryan's current boyfriend that she is "supposed" to like, rather than the swarthy mechanic, Ed Walters, played by Tim Robbins who was a genius with his hands that Uncle Albert - I think it was – and his friends preferred over Stephen Fry's character. FUN!

As per "V for Vandetta", interesting to look up the actor that plays Adam Sutler, the authoritarian leader, John Hurt, what role he played in "1984" (the more modern version)

This variable is a vividly viable viewing that is vastly valued at this very vantage of variety. I vigorously validate! 😉👍

I'm a little confused, not that I mind watching V, great film, but I thought Austin powers won? What happened to that?

Mike Adams

I can see your concern about people getting fired up in the comments, but the whole point of the movie can be generally accepted by everyone. Governments can be dangerous. While they associate the chancellor with the conservative party, it doesn't really make the point that a certain party as a whole is evil, just the man who was in it. My favorite line in the whole movie is not partisan at all: People should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people.

Patreon voted films going forward is going to be uploaded on Saturday instead of Thursday :), we find that having the vote results on a monday and the movie ready by thursday doesn't give us a lot of wiggle room for technical problems, or YT copyright rejections (which sometimes occurs days after uploading), or general life delays.

BHillzebub

Agreed. I really don't think they are going to have to many problems comment wise with this one.

The irony most people miss (probably 'cause most of them too young to have seen it) is that the role of the Chancellor - the dictator screaming on the huge screen, is played by John Hurt - the same actor who played the role of Winston Smith in "1984", the film adapted from the novel by George Orwell. In "1984" it was Winston Smith (John Hurt) who was subjected to mandatory viewing of the Big Brother's rants on a huge screen. So it's an interesting choice, sort of self-referential or inverse characterization.

Love this one. A story based on Margaret Thatchers England in the 80s, made into a movie criticizing the GWBush post 9/11 era and surprisingly relevant again in the current age of covid. Aside the politics of it, I love how stylish it is. Theatrical and unrealistic at points sure, but so entertaining, with some real human stories/themes and a perfect cast.

Michael Lynch

I love how they mention the matrix in the beginning and then totally Miss the credits where it shows Hugo weaving is V.

"Comments are going to be a shitshow" "yes. yes they are". Also: 1984. Look up who played 'Winston Smith' in the movie

Even Simone and George couldn’t make me enjoy this movie . I didn’t much care for it back then and don’t care for it now. And it has nothing to do with the message or the themes. I just found the movie to be shallow and visually dull for my tastes. People love it tho and there are aspects of it that I like. So it’s just my tastes really. In the whole, not for me. Kind of sucks cause I was hoping maybe I would see something I missed that could make me like it a bit more, but I was honestly getting bored. Oh well. Glad you guys enjoyed it tho.

Githerax

Yeah, I agree. V pretends to represent an unassailable moral high ground of freedom then imprisons Evey. Evey reacts by taking his side and blows up a building in an action that is supposed to represent freedom and the memory of the fallen but pragmatically only gives the government more of an excuse to lock down power. Poorly constructed slop. Alan Moore wants to make points in his stories but his acid abuse has fried his brain.

RocktSurgeon

I'd really suggest looking into and considering watching Sense8. If nothing else for yourselves since you liked it so much. Also by the Wachiowskis and shares some themes as all their films do, but it's much more optomistic I think. Granted if you do a reaction you'd have to cut quite a bit for YouTube but it's such a great, unique series. And only 2 seasons to a conclusion (since it was canceled but they were able to decently sum it up with a final extended epsiode/movie).

This movie has a great quote "“People shouldn't be afraid of their government. Governments should be afraid of their people.” ― Alan Moore, V for Vendetta

Love this movie, very happy to see your reaction up on here! :) I'm not going to lie, I was in tears a few times throughout. This movie hits me hard. It's SUCH a good one though. It's a movie that I'm bummed that I didn't go see in theatres but at the same time I know that I wouldn't have appreciated it in the same way that I do today. I've introduced the movie to a few friends and family members. Some of them enjoyed the film as I have and some others - my family - did not. This didn't surprise me. Yeah, of course they hated the bad guy.. it's near impossible not to. They just couldn't grasp V's actions as a whole and were strictly opposed to supporting his actions even though they were fictional. BUT HEY, that's how it goes sometimes. Very happy to have watched this with you both and enjoyed your reaction's.

Andrew Smith

Great reaction to this amazing film

Foodassassin4life

Please react to the remake of the Count of Monte Cristo

David RedEagle

It really is a wonderful and powerful film. Myself being pure blooded Sioux, I wont start. Cause I could, but white people get hurt very easily these days LOL

Erik Lundmark

John Hurt must've been filming his scenes in a very very dark room, to make his pupils that big. Sry if I'm not the 1st one to mention that. And another thing, early on Evey mentions that she remembers her father, so she would have recognized her own father wearing a mask, wouldn't she? In case you missed that... It's been 16 years now since I saw this movie, it really hasn't aged a day. The parallels to today are uncanny.

Kelsey Roberts

Yea, they very clearly say in the script that her father died in a prison riot. If you paid attention to the script, then you wouldn't be thinking that V is her father the entire time. It's a Stockholm love story, not some weird incest.
