The guy playing the piano while Truman is sleeping is the legendary composer Phillip Glass

I love Yes Man, but if I recall correctly, George really dislikes the Manic Pixie Dream Girl trope. With that said, I hope they get around to it, along with some other rom-coms like Ode to Joy, or My Super Ex-Girlfriend.

It might make most sense for Truman to spend the rest of his life avoiding any cameras. And the Internet. But picture a sequel where Cristof continues his social experiments, and after failing to create the mythical baby boom period idyllic small town pocket world for Truman he goes dark. In a world where corporations can pay desperate people to adopt as many babies as they want and before the public's eye raise them shut away in any alternate reality they can construct, there's such staggering potential for horror.

Onno Smits

I haven't seen this in ages, it's gonna be good!

JayF

I loved this one and now I have something to look forward to when I get home from work today. I predict Simone tears! :)

Torsten Maekler

That film definitely was ahead of it's time. A nice mirror held up to our society. Great and fun reaction :-) Jim Carrey is a comedy actor - so everyone was expecting this to be a comedy. Imagine our faces...

Torsten Maekler

By the way: is "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" on your backlog-list? Also Jim Carrey together with Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst and Elijah Wood. This is another Must-Watch :-)

Sean

In my head I'm like George needs to say "I plead the 5th" to Simone with her questions, then I remembered they're Canadian and probably don't know what that means. Whoops!

wroot

If you want an even weirder story, check out The Eternal Shining of a Spotless Mind with Jim Carrey.

Great movie. Very ahead of its time in regards to most of the popular reality shows. Also especially relevant these days as people on twitch/youtube literally stream their lives willingly. I'm not sure I actually want them to make it, but a modern sequel could be really interesting. Truman looking back on his struggles entering the real world and having to deal with his celebrity, re-connecting with Sylvia and maybe loads of wannabe people trying to remake his success by streaming. Could get pretty dark if they wanted to. But it might sully the original too much.

Also George: "How did they deal with a decade of teenage hormones?" They invented pixelation, George. Another technological milestone from The Truman Show, created by Cristof. My question is; can Cristof cram a clean can of creamed clam? Perhaps we'll never know.

Githerax

Also let Simone know that 'Eternal Sunshine' is *not* a comedy. Like Truman, Eternal Sunshine is a masterpiece. Watch it.

Theoshin

I really hope you add Man on the Moon to a poll soon. It is one of my favorite Jim Carry movies, and its about a very very interesting comedian Andy Kaufman. I gut will tell me you will have many questions after you watch it.

Githerax

I love the attention to detail in this movie. For example, when the twins pin Truman to the wall by the poster, you see the camera above the poster, then it cuts to that camera view and it's a fisheye lens and exactly in the right position. Also, when Marlon is stocking the vending machine, he's doing a terrible job (the candy bars are all flopping over) and he takes a candy bar back out when Truman isn't looking and restocks it to stretch the 'scene' because Truman won't stop talking.

gobmob2000

I always thought that this would be a perfect film to remake into a Netflix show. 1-2 seasons of a guy slowly realizing that his life is fake.

William

Not my sort of film, not my sense of humour but i see you two guys really enjoyed it. Have to say no other actor except Jim Carrey could have pulled off that roll. I managed 1hr, but just had to turn it off

Twiska Brand

I disagree. He needs to find out soon or else the audience would get annoyed and pissed off at him for missing everything. (assuming we know the set-up before we start watching) I would say he needs to have found out after two hour-long episodes. Either he find out and we watch him try to escape while he needs to pretend he hasn't found out. Or we start off by following a character whose job is to make sure he doesn't find out. I'm talking about a show attached to the truman show name. If it's an original IP then his life being fake can be the season 2 finally twist if the rest of the season is just dropping hint.

Jim Johnson

Big Brother, the reality TV show that is closest to the premise of this show, actually first aired in 1999, the year after this movie came out. That show along with Survivor, which started in 2000, were what really kickstarted the modern idea of reality television. It crazy to me that this movie slightly predates that craze and yet depicts it so well.

James O'Sullivan

I think it's the perfect spot to end the film. Of course you don't get to see what he does next, he left the show. Considering how you watch him as if you're watching the show, it syncs up nicely. Love this film so much.

Alan Kobb

Fun reaction, even from you, George. I'm surprised that you guys didn't mention...the guy in the bathtub is going to be very prune-like by now!

dieselbeast

Put dumb and dumber on another poll soon, alot of people wanted that one lol

Cortland

I don't feel like the poster is a spoiler. It's implied he's a part of a show. It's literally in the name haha.

David Crabtree

With Monday being Memorial Day, (a very important holiday here in the states) here's a list of some of my favorite movies that honor the sacrifice of our real life superheroes: 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, The Patriot, Behind Enemy Lines, Saving Private Ryan, Heartbreak Ridge, Top Gun, American Sniper, The Great Escape, Sands of Iwo Jima, Lone Survivor, Pearl Harbor, To The Shores of Tripoli, Battle: Los Angeles, Gung Ho!, Hall of Montezuma.

The Maestro

you guys should watch the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, those are some good Jim Carrey movies

Monica Alarcon

You do realize they are canadian and their audience is from all over the world, right?

Gary Fixler

The cover wasn't all spoilers; the whole premise of the movie was in the original previews, so everyone going to see it back in the day knew what it was about. Really fun that Simone went in with no knowledge, though; that's the best way to see it.

JarHead0351

sorry can't sit thru this movie again - it wasn't my cup of tea. I'll just catch the next movie reaction

Michael Green

We don't see him meeting with Sylvia because once he walks through that door, whatever happens to him isn't for us to see-- he's freed himself from not only the in-universe voyeurism, but from our gaze as well. The best possible creative choice to make.

Jim Frykman

the black on the outside term is "vignette"

Logan Kerlee

Holy crap, I'm glad that you enjoyed this Simone! I first watched this as a kid when it came out on video. It BLEW my mind then. Like, I just couldn't believe that cameras could be THAT small. Back in the 90's this movie was damn cool. xD Yeah, Patrons, we rock! We chose the one non comedy flick with Jim in it. SeemsGood Simone, I feel the same as you do, wanting to have that sappy moment to close the movie. :P It's okay though, we have that in our imaginations. :)

Logan Kerlee

Right! Yeah.. I know that I'm a few years older than Simone but come on.. hahaha, I knew about this movie when it came out and I watched it once it released. :P Some kids just miss out on movies, I guess. haha

Logan Kerlee

lol, I'm sure that they know what it means - they just don't go around saying it.

lespea

One of my all time favorite movies and, in my opinion, Jim Carrey's best performance. I really hope they watch it at some point!

lespea

When Truman was looking at his wedding photo and it zoomed in on her hand, the part you missed was that she had her fingers crossed -- which is something you do when you don't really mean something you're saying or don't intent on following through with a promise or something. Essentially she wasn't committing to their wedding.

Drew Acheson

For another serious Jim Carey movie you guys should check out The Majestic.

EMB

I was so happy when I saw you guys post this. By far one of my favorite films, and very unique for Jim Carey who is often type casted, and he sort of is in this too but in such a wonderfully unconventional way. But yeah, really Gaslighting the movie. Great reaction guys :D

Chase Schleich

You should do KickAss 1 and 2. The 2nd has Jim Carrey in it, but the 1st is a better film.

Jomero

Another great movie written by the same writer, that came out about the same time as The Truman Show, is Gattaca. It's another movie that has a very scarily possible not-too-distant future.

Tariq Amin

"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and "Yes Man", are my most favorite Jim Carrey movies. If you guys ever get a chance, watch them. 😊

Michael

"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" is a brilliant movie

David RedEagle

A sequel would be cool, like he becomes a Twitch superstar or something lol

Steve H

Think of this huge investment, in this artificial environment; the producer can keep things going, he has hundreds of actors at his disposal. But they pull the plug?
