One of the few comic book movies that is FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAAAAAR Superior to the source materials. Big Hero 6 is maybe one of the most embarrassing comic book series Marvel ever produced. It reads like two white guys saw anime once and said “I need everything I need to know about writing Asian people!” It’s nothing but exploitative tropes, racist naming conventions and the fetishization of Asian women… I’m kinda shocked Disney wanted anything to do with it…

What I'd like to know is the first thing about how you control those microbots. Do you think pictures at them? Shapes, movements? Are they networked with each other so they themselves keep track of where all the other bots are to help them get in position, or do you direct them all yourself? It would be ridiculous to control all millions of them individually, so they have to function as a a) group, b) liquid, c) single limb, or d) other mysterious thing? The movie makes a big deal out of Hiro building the bots, but that's such an insignificant feat compared to making the brain interface that makes them work, and the movie barely touches on that, and then it fully ignores how he made this interface "completely intuitive" and just instantly turns any person who puts on the headband into a master builder from the Lego movie, except with telekinetic powers. I don't think the filmmakers understand what they've made here.

I was really hoping this movie opened the door for more Marvel characters to get an animated film, but this is the only one they made, and that bums me out. Who says that these Marvel characters have to be in live-action? I think some of these heroes would work better in animated form. Anyways speaking of animated I wanted to suggest you guys watch Your Name (2016). Y'all haven't really done an anime anything, and this is up there probably one of the best anime movies ever made in my opinion. And one of my personal favorite movies.

It's a fun movie but (SPOILERS) the end death scene is totally undercut by the fact he comes back after like 30 seconds. Total copout for me.

Wreck it Ralph is right up this street - one the best animated films of the last decade imo

I'd love to see you guys delve into some 2D animation, the 80's animated classic Transformers: The Movie would make for a fun reaction.

"WALL-E" is another great animated movie worth checking out

Ah dangit. I just rewatched this literally four days ago! 😅

Unfortunately I lost my mom not too long after this came out. But it was our tradition to always see Disney and Pixar anmiated movies on the opening showing. She had big plans and wasn't able to make this movies premier but told me to go see it to get the free goodies and we would see it a week later. When we finally saw it together, within the first 10 minutes she leaned over and said "His brother is my favorite character" and I just remember squeezing the armrests doing everything in my power not to cry. Which is why I named my dog Tadashi.

Pete Hornberger from 30 Rock is Baymax if that makes it easier to put a face to his voice lmao

Jim Frykman

Why would George just call all of us from 2014 out like that?

Seriously, don't force me to take stock of my life while I am getting ready to watch other people watch a movie

From what I gather the big hero 6 content is for kids. But recommendations related would be The incredibles by Pixar. 1 and 2 are both top notch

I'm pretty under the weather with Covid and watching the two of you giggle your way through this movie really cheered me up. Thank you both.

JarHead0351

Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did!

what's funny is that Tadashi exist in the MCU. In Iron man 2 ( I think ) when tony is picking out a new AI one of the chips is labeled Tadashi.

I never watched this film before, but I've heard good things about it. I enjoyed experiencing it with you guys for the first time. It was a really touching film.

I remember picking up this comic back in the day because I was a huge Sunfire fan (Marvel and DC didn't have a huge representation for Asian or Pacific Islanders in their stable back then). My favorite thing about old comic book stores was looking at stuff on the shelf that you normally wouldn't put on your reserve/hold lists - Independent titles were some of the wackiest and coolest stuff you could get your hands on, if you were lucky.

I definitely enjoyed watching this one with you both. :) I've seen this movie PLENTY of times already but it was a joy watching you both react to this. Definitely made me feel happy. Have a good one, you guys! :)
