Deadly Ramon

Quentin was raised on a variety of niche genre movies, including low-budget ones featuring black actors called blaxploitation, in which Pam Grier was often involved. Once Tarantino made it big, he just had to cast his idol from 20 years past in a then-current production, alongside stars like Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Forster, Robert De Niro, and Bridget Fonda. Grier was in her forties, but the positive exposure the film brought her boosted her career considerably.

Pretty sure Mr. Pink died as well. If you listen closely, you can hear gunshots. I don’t know what else they could be for, though I could be wrong. Definitely my favorite Tarantino film. The sudden cut to Orange dying in the car is such a brilliant opening.

If you guys end up enjoying this you should also check out Killing Zoe (1993). Roger Avery (the other writer and QTs partner in crime on this movie and Pulp Fiction) directed that around the same time Reservoir Dogs was made. It has a similar aesthetic, I would say it’s big budget indie.

Dirk Rheeder

Easy Peasy Gary Sinise is my new go to saying. Thanks Simone!

Pam Grier did indeed do a QT film Simone, it’s called Jackie Brown (1997), and it’s excellent. You guys should watch it. My brother and I went to see it on Christmas when it came out.

Christopher Feiertag

I‘d like to mention the fact, that this was Tarantinos feature film debut and he was in his mid20s at the time. Pretty remarkable achievement, I’d say.

Tomcats62

I agree with the others, Jackie Brown would be a great movie to watch.

Rasmus Kristensen

Pam Grier was a big blaxploitation star in the seventees, probably best known for "Foxy Brown". I also highly recommend Jackie Brown.

Opti_Frog

Still my favourite Tarantino film.

Ragnar Lothbrok

This movie and Hateful eight are my favourites of Tarantino's filmography. No big budget, no cgi bullshit, just a phenomenal script, few locations and a bunch of great actors. Brilliant!

Ragnar Lothbrok

oh yeah, i recently watched Coffy, Pam is abolutely nuts in that movie, haha. Not to mention gorgeous!

REDR58

Kyle Baker: Also "Get Shorty" for another Elmore Leonard connection.

Tarantino is a massive fan of 70s cinema, which is why he refers a lot to movies of that time and also brought back actors from those days. When he made Reservoir Dogs, he was just an ambitious film buff who wanted to direct his first film before turning 30, so I doubt he knew Pam Grier at that point yet nor could he know he'd become such a phenomenon. Also: whatever peels your orange, whatever tops your bagel, whatever kneads your bun, whatever whips your cream, whatever fizzles your drink, whatever reserves the dog.

What's kinda crazy is I had to move for a week to a relatives house and the room I'm in looks just like the one Simone's in. I looked behind me and felt like I was in Spaceballs.

George "ok we are going to get this started right away as we have lots to do today" 7 minutes later .....................reaction starts😶

Odd Thomas

One of my least favourite Tarantino films tbh

Florian Hoyer

u have one big missunderstanding, mr blonde didnt shoot at "cops" he killed 4+ civilians at the bank job (one of them was a black 20 year old girl) just cause one of them gave alarm he killed all the employers or customers there ...

Grand Moff Slackin'

If I recall, Vic Vega was the older brother of Vincent Vega.

MattN

So Vic Vega actually is Vincent Vega's brother and QT wanted to do a movie with the two of them together

The term “Resevoir Dogs” doesn’t really mean anything. It was a mis-pronunciation of “Au Revoir Les Enfants” a 1987 French film directed by Louis Malle. Tarantino and his buddies at the video store would deliberately call it “Reservoir Dogs” and the joke just kinda stuck. Tarantino’s production company “A Band Apart” is another mis-pronouncing of the French New Wave film “Bande a part”. Just some trivia. BTW thanks for this reaction. You guys were as great as ever

Ali Williams

PS: From OutKast “Whatever floats your boat or finds your lost remote.”

Haye Zeus

Jackie Brown is my fav Tarantino so highly recommend. Very underrated.

Anthony Perez

The title for the film first came to Quentin Tarantino while visiting a production company and noticing that they had a pile of unsolicited scripts under the label "Reservoir dogs". All those scripts were fighting with each other for attention as dogs trapped in a reservoir tank. The name got stuck in his mind.

braaap

cant wait for superbad! :D

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Yup, and that's how it ends. Also, I've seen this movie too many times to even estimate, and I still don't know what a reservoir dog is, but Reservoir Dogs is still my favorite Tarantino movie, it's kind of perfect. Simone I think sort of ironically mentioned Eddie Bunker, just reading his name in the opening credits as if he was random, but Eddie Bunker (Mr. Blue) is not such a random. He was a bank robber, did a lot of time in prison, became a writer who inspired a lot of other novelists and filmmakers, and he got Danny Trejo into acting. Trejo and Bunker were in San Quentin at the same time, well anyway, check it out, it's a pretty interesting little redemption and serendipity story.

Jim Frykman

Man I am SO excited for when you guys get to Jackie Brown!

Torsten Maekler

This was the Directors Cut, because Blue was cut out of the movie :-)

William

I have no idea how you guys will cut this film for the youtube reaction : Great reaction guys

Terrence Williams

I joined your patreon just for this movie. It's one of the one personal and intense I have ever experienced. I'm glad you enjoyed it. At some point it feels like it stops being a movie and just feels like real life. Also, Vincent Vega is Vic Vega's brother. They were supposed to star together in a never-developed sequel!
