If the humidifier is a newer "cool mist" style, some of them work more like a nebulizer. Instead of boiling water to create steam, or fanning air through a wick, they essentially "shatter" the water with vibration to create a mist. The problem with that is, if you use tap water, it carries all of the minerals into the air and leaves a powdery white film of calcium and lime on everything...

For the Buffy Fans, Serris is played by Robin Sachs, who plays Ethan Rayne on Buffy.

Morion Williams

Voyager was awesome, my favourite of the star trek series.

Togre

By Grabthar's Hammer...what a reaction!

Andrew Smith

Oh yes! Looking forward to this one!

The original Trek is... old, but it has some pretty great stuff and the writing is really strong at best. The dynamics between the main trio are great fun, especially if you can appreciate the campy William Shatner school of acting. The strength of the show is that you don't have to watch the whole thing to get an idea of what the original Trek is. Just look up a list of top episodes and watch a few of them.

I would like to recommend you check out some David Lynch movies. Mulholland Drive is my favourite movie and it's like watching a dream; it follows dream logic and I find something new in it each time I see it.

The thing is, 90% of Shatner’s performance is actually pretty low-key. It’s only when he has a speech to give that he starts really hamming it up, but that’s what’s come to define his acting style.

Who Are These People

"It's a spoof movie, right?" A few times I've heard various reactors mention "I'm glad you (their patrons) recommended I watch (other movies) before this one so I got the references, it made it better", like Magy here: https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxVdkrqjvNefixs262zoDLujd3GceZ9IkM So I'm really glad to see George read my post and watched the two very short clips I provided for him so he'd have a better frame of reference for this movie. Makes me feel like I'm contributing to his enjoyment of the movies. Wait, correction: -did not read- and -I'm not contributing-. Ok. Also, is Simone going to have a hard time saying 'Welcome to Cinebinge...' after 20 years? I mean...she had a problem with the line after three months. Can you imagine Alan Rickman's pain?

Who Are These People

If you want another neat sci-fi movie, this one with Sam Rockwell ('Guy'), check out 'Moon' (2009). And George, Dasha had a similar reaction to the open space shot when Tim Allen first realized it was real. You two have some things in common! You should give her a call and collaborate on a video, and maybe have coffee together sometime.

How dare you besmirch the name of Lwaxana Troi, Daughter of the Fifth House, Holder of the Sacred Chalice of Rixx, Heir to the Holy Rings of Betazed! She is amazing. No one can make Picard squirm like that woman. Edit: My 2 cents on Trek. Old Trek: I enjoyed TOS Trek, but because of the nature of TV at the time, I am not 100% sure I have seen them all. I grew up watching TNG, so it will always have a special place in my heart, but I love the arc-based storytelling that began with DS9 and continued into Voyager. As for the Movies, I Love all (but #5) of the TOS movies and enjoyed the TNG movies to various degrees but do not rewatch them as they are not as good as the TOS movies. New Trek: Kelvin Universe I did not enjoy. I put off watching Discovery as after the Babylon 5/DS9 kerfuffle and with the legal issues between the game Tartagrade and the production of Discovery. Combine that with the, shall we say, creative reworking of the Klingons; I was not interested until I heard that there was a connection between Discovery and Strange New Worlds. Once I watched it, I fast began to enjoy it immensely. I have enjoyed every other show that has aired in the new Trek era. I am even awaiting the return of Prodigy.

For the Humidifier! You have to use Distilled Water in those. Using tap water, or even purified water vapor can leave a small film from the dried-up minerals in the water. 🖖

There is an awful lot of star trek, the original series, next generation and deep space nine are all well worth watching but it's a big time investment. Voyager was fairly mediocre, and Enterprise that came after voyager had a couple of interesting episodes in later seasons but otherwise wasn't memorable. Deep space nine became my favorite, I feel its quality is comparable to Babylon 5, but you need to have watched next generation first to appreciate deep space nine. I would strongly recommend watching the original star trek movies, up to and including star trek 6. The first star trek movie is pretty slow paced and hasn't aged as well as the others, but Star Trek 2 is still my favorite science fiction movie ever made. The next generation movies aren't terrible but aren't amazing like the original series ones. None of the newer star trek movies or tv shows are any good, starting with the bad star trek reboot movie in 2009.

Odd Thomas

Star Trek movies are definitely worth watching, though there are obviously some duds. 1 is boring, 2 is better, 3 & 4 are great, 5 is bad, 6 is brilliant; my fave of the original cast.

George, don't let dislikes (like on My Cousin Vinny) get to you. Some people are just curmudgeony haters and it takes zero effort to act as such in their anonymous world. The more popular you get, the more these people start appearing simply because they hate anything and anyone that appears to have a better life than they, and they feel the need to kill joy where they find it. You will never be able to convert them nor will you ever be able to get rid of them. Some people also just hate when reactors don't watch movies that they don't themselves like, or get mad when they break from their norm. Focus on the positives. There are a lot of people who DO like your work, and I think that's very apparent. Many celebrities purposefully ignore social media simply because of how many of these negative people are out there. But the good news is that there are far more positive people in your world. Always keep that in forefront of your thoughts.

Opti_Frog

Personally, and this is just my personal opinion, i personally think that new Star Trek viewers should start with TNG because it is the perfect primer for the best Star Trek series: DS9. 😊

Texas Anla'Shok

When I got the full set of the movies, I sat down to watch all of them. The Motion Picture is slow, yes, but has some great moments. I found myself enjoying Star Trek V a lot more than I was expecting to. It’s not a great movie but it wasn’t as bad as I remembered it being.

Opti_Frog

I prefer Lost Highway because it has such an awesome horror feel. And it has Rammstein in the OST. But the two films share that special Lynch dna.

Texas Anla'Shok

The original series is worth watching because none of the other shows really have anything quite like the Kirk-Spock-McCoy dynamic.

Who Are These People

I agree with TNG as a primer, but whether you then go to Voyager or Deep Space Nine depends on what kind of show you like; I gave up on DS9 after season 5 because it turned into a single-arc soap opera *All Jem-Hadar All The Time!*; I liked Voyager more because it kept the one unique aspect of 'Trek' going; new worlds, new civilizations, new discoveries, more episodic.

Tenn Seven

RIP Robin Sachs, who is often overlooked in this movie and did a hell of a job playing Sarris.

Andrew Smith

I'd be here to watch George watch TNG

Miles E Coburn

Did anyone notice when Sarris is shooting everyone on the command deck the ONLY person he DOESN'T HIT, and supposedly kill, is Guy?

gobmob2000

Although there is no Galaxy Quest TV show, there is a TV show called The Orville which follows in the spirit of Galaxy Quest made my Seth MacFarlane which I think you two should watch.

Robert Ballard

To answer a few of questions/observations that have come up so far... 1) The relationships between the cast members are pretty closely modelling that of the cast of Star Trek: The Original Series. Shatner was, at the time and for some years after, a major egotist. He alienated most or all of his castmates as a result. Most famously, Leonard Nimoy (Spock) and George Takei (Sulu) were really opposed to him personally. Shatner and Nimoy eventually reconciled but Takei is still not onboard. Look up Shatner and the word "sabotage" if you want an example. 2. This is primarily a Star Trek...parody? It's really too affectionate for that or a spoof, I think, but it's the closest label I can think of at the moment. I've heard it lauded as one of the best Star Trek movies because of both how well it plays with the tropes of those shows/films but also because of how ultimately respectful it is of them. The fact that this alien species, the Thermians, have taken this silly, sweethearted, socialist utopia as gospel and it has saved their civilization is the ultimate paean to the Star Trek franchise. 3. Tony Shalhoub, I think, was a late hire/replacement for the character of Fred Chen. I'm assuming, based on the surname and on Shalhoub's acting choices, that Fred was a California surfer-dude type who was meant to be of Chinese decent. Then he got the script and just decided to run with the "always really high" part of the character. He's clearly coded as being cataclysmically high throughout the movie. He runs with it, though. 4. The actor playing the lead Thermian came up with the alien vocalizations and physical movements for the species and is credited with single-handedly elevating the movie by informing the character of that entire species/extras.

HIGHLY recommend watching the deleted scenes for this!

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

George: "Is this a spoof?" Simone: "No, I don't think so." I agree, I think of it as a hilarious homage to Star Trek, and the fandom. Also, my opinion, Next Generation is the best, the Borg still haunt me lol I remember watching the show as a kid, and there being some of our parents all jazzed about it too because they watched the OG Star Trek when they were kids, well that's what they said anyway, pretty sure they watched the re-runs as stoned teenagers, same as we did 😆

Gary Fixler

Absolutely, but good lord, there are something like 180 of them, all of which I've seen at least once or twice.

Kevin Bartelen

I'm pretty sure this is mostly based on TOS, or at least, it's based on how those actors at this point were known for basically nothing else. There are definitely things taken from other pieces of Trek though, like Tommy being a kid when the show was on reminds me of a character like Wesley Crusher from TNG.

wroot

The outro was brilliant. Simone nailed the voice :D

wroot

I have watched TOS and liked it. Watched TNG and loved it. DS9 i got stuck in first season. I don't feel it. At some point will go through it as i am curious about the other series and want to keep in the order of release. Of course, also watched the movies up until that :)

Logan Kerlee

This movie is such a blast from the past! I really like this movie. It's a very sweet movie that's also pretty darn nerdy and not too over the top. TNG is the best but it's also pretty darn old school. I fell in love with Voyager as a kid. The show's super exciting if you can put yourself into their positions/imagine that you're stuck incredibly far from anything/everyone that you've ever known. If you can imagine that, then you can enjoy the show. It has the same Star Trek tropes.. loads of alien races that they encounter on their journey home. Plenty of drama, both normal and steamy. It's a solid Star Trek series! I recommend that you give it a shot. :)

Torsten Maekler

Good choice, NOT to watch Picard... but you should finish DS9, Simone. To what point did you watch?

Torsten Maekler

Oh, so diving into the Dominion Conflict heads on. Did you like the double episode "Homefront" / "Paradise Lost"? I think that seasons 4 to 6 are the best of DS9. Have fun :-)
