Did you guys notice that while Joe lies (dies?) in the snow, we hear the same notes of the music that played when Roy (Rutger Hauer) died in the first Blade Runner? The music that played when he did his famous monologue... "... like tears in the rain"? The really sad thing in this movie is that Joe thought he was the Deckard of this movie... when in fact he was the Nexus 6 Roy, who died without getting what he wanted for himself and his friends: more life.

Oh man the intro lol. If you want other Denis Villeneuve movies to watch. Dune (2021) Sicario (2015) Prisoners (2013) Enemy (2013) Incendies (2010) If I could pick the next movie of his for you to watch it would be Sicario.

Big.Bad.Mr.Mustard

Sicario introduced me to Denis Villeneuve, but I think Prisoners was his best so far.

Roby J

I haven't seen Denis Villeneuve's earlier work, but Sicario and Dune are must watch. Especially Sicario.

Andrew Smith

Sweet now I have something to look forward to after work

ChickensAreRacist

If y’all don’t mind captions the whole time, Denis’ 2009 Incendies can’t be hyped enough. Powerful movie. Highly recommend.

Marko T.

I think this is even better than the first movie.

Jeromy M

+1 to this. Almost as good as the book. Denis is definitely one of my favourite extant directors.

Jeromy M

Ooof i have been waiting for this. Upgraded my membership so I can watch the full version.

Jeromy M

Prisoners is unhinged and had me on the edge of my seat. I was lucky enough to see Sicario in the cinema, blew me away.

Was Joe created specifically to be a decoy? I thought the daughter was just implanting her real memories into all the other replicants too! The rebel replicant leader said "We all wish it was us" making me think they all see the memories and wish it was their own. And the escort replicant seemed to recognise the horse figurine too.

AC10

That intro totally made me feel things... (how to shift return on mobile?) (Hey I figured it out!) Bad a** movie from the best reactors on the interwebs.

Jack Burton

Rachel wasn't an open-ended lifespan. That was covered in the first movie. She was like the other Nexus 6's. Or 5's. Can't remember what model they were. K wasn't the DNA replicant of the daughter. They just falsified the records to have a female child death certificate to throw the trail off and they made her dead and invented the male child that just disappeared to throw them off. Deckard is NOT a replicant. They didn't make replicants Blade Runners in the first movie. They were all human. Replicants as Blade Runners is a new thing. The whole thing here is to question what being human means. Can a human not love a replicant/ai? vice versa? If they did what would happen? etc. etc. Hallmarks of good sci-fi. The ethical, moral, and philosophical ramifications of AI and what it means to think and be sentient.

Lars G

IMO it doesn't really matter whether Deckard is a replicant. I think one of things I liked most about this movie is whether he is or isn't, it doesn't really change anything. I don't think the movie answered it one way or the other, and frankly I think the questions about what constitutes "real" are a far more interesting question.

YoureMrLebowski

i liked the little bit about the business of show business. 👍🏼

Garrett Mazzuca

I think you're right about that. The male and female DNA strand was just to put the child's gender into question so they would be harder to find. Deckard's daughter granted those replicants her memories...and therefore instilled in them a sense of a soul. She gave them freedom really.

Christopher Feiertag

I know that I‘m annoying, but since this is already your 2nd Villeneuve-picture, please don‘t forget about the far to unknown „Incendies“.

Odd Thomas

You should also check out Spielberg's A.I: Artificial Intelligence. Similar themes.

TGrimace

2099 is going to be a 10 episode series. Really looking forward to it.

TGrimace

I can't believe that the original Blade Runner wasn't popular on your channel. It's such an amazing movie.

Opti_Frog

Joi is immensely fascinating to me. Are her simulated or "fake" emotions any less valid than "real" human feelings? One is program, the other is biochemistry.

Opti_Frog

This. Even Ridley Scott and Harrison Ford can't agree with each other whether Deckard is or isn't a replicant.

Opti_Frog

Yes! And in some ways, it's an even darker story. Very underrated and misunderstood.

Obsolyeet

This series was always vastly underrated by most but is remarkable.

Saifu

Fyi, Blade Runner 2099 is actually a tv series sequel that is being developed at Amazon with Ridley Scott returning as producer.

MacGuffinStuff

Joe is the perfect name for K, all Joe's are cool (well except for that one asshole), generally it's about as unpretentious a name as you can get, it's practically a grunt. Two other movies I have to take the opportunity to recommend: "A.I.", it's a Spielberg joint, similar themes explored; and "Robot and Frank", that movie is somewhat similar in theme, but really I just loved it, a little more fun.

Green Nolan

I agree, both sicario and dune next!!

micah

thanks george and simone!!! please more denis in the future!!!

Philipp Roensch

Glad to see you had so much joi (hehe) with this movie! I hope you are excited to see more of Denis' work now. My theory for the memory vs actual child logic is: K did only have planted memories and might not even be the exact duplicate, because not built by then and that was just to hide the girl. Nonetheless I believe all the rebellious replicants had the same memory, maybe the girl snuck it out to reach out. They all learned the truth from Freysa, while K went on his own mission, learning to late what he actually could do to help. Whats really cool though, you probably noticed the prominently featured snow. It replaced the significance of rain form the previous movie, where memories would be "lost like tears in rain", now snow sticks around a little bit longer and is tangible, proof of the living replicant miracle.

Robert Haynes

I believe that JOI saved K's life. By revealing herself she taunted Love. Love would have just killed K, but decided instead to kill JOI and leave K to suffer. All the synthetic life in this movie is so much more noble than the actual "real" humans. Also, this is like the only movie where the sex scene actually adds something powerful to the movie.

I really enjoyed both of your reactions to this! It was obvious that you enjoyed this one and that made me feel very happy. I first watched this in theaters and it didn't land well for me. I enjoyed it! It just didn't sink in like it did for you two (and me on future viewings). That's probably what made me feel most happy. As always, looking forward to future movie/show reactions. :)

Logan Kerlee

I'm over here hoping that they take the plunge and watch the original Blade Runner as a movie reaction! That would be so rad. Plus it would give both of them a taste of what classic sci fi was like. :)

Adverb

This was great. I hope you react to Villeneuve's Dune soon!

wroot

I think dome was also a disguise. Nobody would think to scan her to see she is part replicant (if that could be found).

Grand Moff Slackin'

Great time at the movies with y’all! +1 vote for Sicario and Dune.

redddfer44

I really appreciate the explanation for the belatedness in the intro! Too bad about the original movie reaction tho. Like I've said before, your scifi reactions rule. Personally, I'm not a fan of Villeneuve overall, but Gosling is absolutely amazing in this. Oh, and I think you missed one thing: Joe gave his life for something. That was what... someone said in the movie about being human. He made the free choice to die for something other than himself. He may not have been the chosen one, so the speak, but he chose his fate for himself -- which, one could argue, is so much more noble, much more special.

Lannisen

Do androids dream of holographic girlfriends?

jonny bowerbank

I couldn't really get into the first one will i need to have seen the 1st to understand this one?

JoeySnowyNoey

I didn't like the first Bladerunner so when I went to see this in the theaters I was nervous because Im such a big fan of this director, but I'm happy to say that I really enjoyed this movie. You really need to check out more of Denis' movies!

Marko T.

Do you like this or the first movie more? I hope we get Blade Runner 3 but its not happening anytime soon because this underperformed at the box office. It would have needed to make much more to break even. I'm glad they are making the tv show at least.

Doctor Horton

you might not see this, but JOI didn't light the cigarette, it's self lighting
