Tropic Thunder (Unrated Cut) - Patreon Version

Comments

Tyler Mckenzie

The natives weren't speaking Vietnamese. Just wanted to say that

Habman

Sorry Simone George won the reaction award for this one. His face when he realized they were on a movie set was classic

China Andronicus

I will never forget Bill Hader’s story of filming this, how a bomb scare in NY had him wanting to get home to his wife and infant daughter but filming was scheduled to keep him busy until the next day. Tom Cruise took over, got everything organized and finished in 45 minutes and had Hader on the red eye to NY that night. It was great watching you two react to this one. Your laughter is infectious on what is already a hilarious film.

Hi Ben, the video was age restricted by YT, so the way to play it is to click into the video and have it up on the Youtuber player itself, rather than on patreon. Provided that you have a youtube account

Shocrates

Patreon full version not loading - lame. So glad I subbed.

jesus take a chill pill man. sometimes YT age gates their videos and you have to click the youtube link to go into the video. rather than watching on patreon itself. its not that complicated. ask before throwing a little adult tanturm

Twiska Brand

Why did you remove the video?

Jay Davis

Not gonna lie... that intro terrified me a little.

JediLounger

Another comedy I think you guys would like is Real Genius (1985).

PickettsChargingPort

This movie is just one big cringe fest. I do hope you found it funny, though.

When Tropic Thunder was coming out, Downey was coming fresh off the success of Iron Man and Jack Black off the success of Kung Fu Panda So to promote the film, they filmed this short skit for the MTV Movie Awards of Ben Stiller attempting to make a viral video to promote the film. Enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8wYliij-Lw

The commentary track for the dvd was great... Robert Downey Jr stayed in character throughout lol...

Onno Smits

Tom Cruise said yes to the role, but he had a demand that he would be allowed to have prostetics to get hairy arms and fat hands. The whole characterization was basically Tom Cruise's invention, and the dancing wasn't even scripted. Fucking brilliant.

TGrimace

"There's no way they could make a movie like this" Hahaha. You must watch Apocalypse Now and then follow it up with "Hearts of Darkness". Hearts of Darkness is the movie about the making of Apocalypse Now. Kinda like Tropic Thunder, except it's real. The making of Apocalypse Now was an amazing story.

David Bridgham

Before I buy the wrong version again, is this the unrated version or theatrical?

TGrimace

I loved this reaction, but the biggest takeaway I got: You guys are doing The Wire?!?! YES!!!! When can we start seeing those on here?

Next Tuesday, at least according to what they said in the last Arcane video.

Yeah, the whole first act very much feels like a nod to the production hell that was Apocalypse Now.

Hey guys, I dont ever have requests but if you did Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind I would love it. keep up the good work, it has been lovely rewatching the movies in your company!

Robert H

I actually own this on 4K UHD and as per somewhat usual the Unrated Directors cut is only in 1080p on the Blu-ray disc while the Theatrical is in 4K. Man I hate when they do that. Same thing with The Patriot on 4K UHD. The Unrated cut is only on Blu-ray. Ugh such a shame. Oh well... still looking forward to this reaction! :p

Martin Nicholls

The perfect antidote to Black Hawk Down - timed pretty well, really. RDJ's real-world Oscar nomination I still think is the best part of the story of this movie. You guys should actually watch Rain Man by the way, absolute classic. The Les Grossman character was a suggestion by Tom Cruise to Ben Stiller after he sent him the original script, BS writes the part and TC asks to play it. These movies, the ones with the most trivia about them always end up being the best movies - RDJ staying in character till the end of the DVD commentary as somebody mentioned for example.

"It's clearly a comedy because it's directed by Ben Stiller" well, he ain't just that. Mitty, although comedy heavy, is way more about heart than anything, and Severance surprised folks very recently with... what it is. Not going to spoil it, but there is way more to Old Ben than comedy. I still have to watch Escape at Dannemora but that didn't strike me as comedic at all, so yeah, dude is definitely collecting those drama chops.

David Guin

Tropic Thunder is a comedic perfect storm You can't just watch it once ;)

Monica Alarcon

I had to rewatch the part with the stabby baby like 5 times... your laughter in that scene is awesome!! There was a moment where you both were silent cause you ran out of air from laughing!! Made my week...

Chase Schleich

Tom Cruise has been wanting to make a Les Grossman movie for years. He loved playing the character. Rumors about it came up again recently. Really hope he is able to do it.

Torsten Maekler

Well, after you watched Tropic Thunder and recently the old Jumanji, there is no way around for you two to watch the two new Jumanjis... :-)

MisturSmith

When Ben Stiller came to Tom Cruise asking him to review the script, Tom Cruise immediately said he wanted a part in the film. His demands were "I want fat hands, and I'm gonna dance". Theres a youtube video of TC talking about it, its hilarious.

REDR58

You guys should check out Platoon and Apocalypse Now as there are allusions to those films in Tropic Thunder. :)

Philipp Roensch

There is of course the movie/story this is based upon to watch now. If you like to see a classic war movie again^^. Apocalypse Now was famously filmed on location and way over budget. Not as chaotic though and certainly came out as a good film. Tropic Thunder is just the most fun and out there version a war movie could have :D.

Florian Hoyer

unrated version not only the best but the easiest to get xD

Kinokind

This movie really needs to be watched after Apocalypse Now, since there are so many references.

it literally tells you that you need to watch it on YT instead of on Patreon cause YT age restricted it. just click through it to YT...

Bobby Glanton

Looks like it this crappy app because the web version works.
