YAY. He gave it back to us. :)

You should look at Hearts of Darkness, a doco on the making of Apocalype Now, filmed by Coppolas wife. This movie turned into 15 month long nightmare for cast and crew.

Joe Williams

Great reaction to a great movie. Like George said, travelling further up river becomes darker, more violent, more hallucinatory. It also works as a metaphor for delving further into the human psyche. A true classic I think.

Byron

Badlands is also a good Martin Sheen movie, back when Terrence Malick would bother with things like “story.”

Joel

Yes definitely watch Hearts of Darkness. You can see just how exhausting this movie was to make. No exaggeration, it literally nearly killed Martin Sheen.

Heh, Daria

Hearts of Darkness is very good, some say it's even better than the movie. I remember seeing it in theaters when it was released in the early 90s, and it's definitely an experience, it absolutely made a strong impression, elevated knowing it was all real.

MongoTheElder

One of Francis Ford Coppola's finest directing efforts

Mike Miner

Another vote for "Hearts of Darkness". Obviously this channel doesn't do documentaries, but I strongly recommend an exception for this one.

Blacky

Honestly Hearts of Darkness is almost a movie, the way its constructed.

Adam Wetstein

As someone who was in Vietnam war. it caught the feeling of this insanity perfectly

Ken Myers

I see a lot of reactions for Platoon, which was great, but I'm not sure anyone has reacted to Casualties of War, which was also very good. Next time you do a war movie, or poll, please include Casualties of War.

Kris

I've commented on your videos to say this before, but this is the key experience of war: Absurdity. It is truly, utterly absurd, mixing the mundane and insane without any hesitation. It's sipping coffee while you kill dozens. War isn't hell, it's a comedy, one who's audience is only the participants.

JoeNotCharles

I never realized before how much the ending of this resembles the ending of Conan the Barbarian. (Which, I also just realized, was written and directed by the guy who wrote the script for this.)

JoeNotCharles

Now that you've seen this, Top Gun, Rambo and Airplane!, you're ready to watch Hot Shots 1 and 2...

Ginger

The look and feel of this film (especially the scenes on the river) was heavily inspired by Werner Herzog's "Aguirre - The wrath of god" - If you want to watch one Herzog movie, I highly recommend that one. At the time, Coppola referred to the making of this movie as "his personal Vietnam". In the audio commentary, he talks about how immature that statement was and he's now embarrased of it.

Matt Rodgers

First time I saw this movie, I was immensely sleep deprived. It was not a fun experience.
