First episode made me think of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, with the King's brother plotting behind his back

Deserana12

A surprise to be sure. But a very very very welcome one.

Śéáń

This is a cool surprise, and in a 5-episode chunk? Awesome.

Martin

Well, well, well. This is a great surprise!

AC10

Now this is a "binge". 😬

JoshG

This is awesome. Thank you guys!

All in. Second watch for me but one of those you want to watch more than once.

To your question about book accuracy, it's a bit complicated. The book is told from the perspective of multiple very unreliable narrators. GRRM is helping with the production of this show and they've basically said this is the true story, so the show is actually more canon than the book is.

Knowing what happens is great. I avoid spoilers regardless, but if anything, figuring out how we end up at one place (like with Hangover) and possibly how it resolves within that timeline... it's fantastic. Arguably a big part of what makes Andor some of the best SWEU media ever, most folks know where the story is headed, but making it exciting regardless? That's a good show. Kind of like doubling-down, if you biff it, it might take away from an already mediocre show; if you can spoil the "surprise" and it still works out neatly, it just enhances your enjoyment.Of course it can just be reduced to a boring trope, which many shows like Community obviously picked on plenty, lol

omg what a pleasant surprise, I really wanted a reason to rewatch this series... it was nigh on perfect, one or two missteps.

I personally would have taken an extra season of The Wire, or the whole of Sherlock, or watching and commenting on video essays on Edgar Wright movies, as a nicer "bonus" than this. But I understand you want to grow the business by not avoiding the big popular current thing (at least, while it last), it's the safer bet.

As you ask what a knight does if they have to shit, I'm reminded of Sir Ector from A Knight's Tale. "The spark of his life is smothered in shite. His spirit is gone but his stench remains."

Logan Kerlee

I'm with you there. Sherlock is amazing and I'd LOVE to watch another reactor watch through that show. :) It's always so much fun.

The King has a form of leprosy that keeps deteriorating his body. But he didn't feel the flame of the candles because he is fire-proof. The Crab Feeder does not have greyscale, he has a severely burnt face (possibly from dragon fire).

Young Rhaenyra is selfish and entitled. She shirks her duty, she wants the power and throne without any of the responsibility, has the potential to be a truly awful ruler. That might change as she ages, but at this stage Queen Alicent and team green are doing a better job of serving the realm and the people as a whole.

I'm so glad y'all are watching some HotD. Good excuse to watch it again. To clear some things up the dagger that the king always has is the same dagger that threatened Brann and killed the night king. The reason the current king's wounds won't heal is that he is unworthy to sit on the iron throne. Kings that are cut on it is a bad one. This is reinforced by the white hart coming to visit her and not the king. Parallel with that he couldn't kill the captured stag easily, yet she was able to kill the boar without hesitation. Looking forward to the next 5!

george that's not girlboss music that's her theme! lol

micah

thanks for this!!!! its incredible on second watching

5:16:46 Incest was normal among the Valyrian Houses but Alicent is from Westeros, where incest was still considered a bad sin. Think about how the relationship (and the rumor about it) between Jamie and Cersei was seen among the other westerosi, even the idea was considered scandalous.

Young Blood Priest

You’re spot on about the young Rhaenyra but I don’t think Otto was serving the realm as much as he was serving himself and his house. He’d been making moves since he served the king’s father.

Young Blood Priest

The writers after the episode said the king has leprosy. That’s why parts of his body are rotting and falling off.
