Bad Santa - Patreon Version

For those familiar with the different versions; this is the Unrated cut. It's essentially the same movie as the theatrical but with more of the nudity and raunchier scenes left in. The Directors Cut however, completely changes the vibe all together. It's super dark and depressing. I'd recommend checking it out but It's typically the least liked of the 3 cuts. The Unrated and Directors cut are both on the BluRay edition.

Someone else may have posted this in the 2 years this has been up... but you didn't do Trivia, and maybe if you had you'd've found out that there is *another* film with both Billy Bob Thornton and John Ritter in the cast. Billy Bob Thornton was nominated for Best Actor Oscar and he won Best Screenplay Oscar for "Sling Blade" and John Ritter plays a gay man in a lovely role. Considering the 'in memory' at the end, I wonder if Billy Bob helped out John Ritter by getting him on this film, as John Ritter helped out then nearly unknown Billy Bob Thornton by participating in the self-produced "Sling Blade". If you want to see the kind of acting range Billy Bob has compare him in "A Simple Plan", "Pushing Tin" and (a great film with a great cast) "Bandits"

I had to buy the DVD to watch this version of the movie but definitely worth it. It's good to see the extra stuff that was cut from the theatrical version. Some stuff should have stayed in the movie, but some stuff I see why it was cut. The scene where Willie steals keys, steals a car, drives to a rich house, crack the safe, steals money, waste it at a strip club, and takes a stripper back home was cut from the theatrical version. It just shows him waking up throwing the alarm clock F bombing, throwing glass cups, drinks the beer with the cigarette, and cuts to him checking his answering machine. Also, in this version, Markus is meaner and cold blooded. Not only does this version add extra insults Markus says to Willie, but the part where Markus meets up with Bernie Mac's character Gin Slagel and Markus' woman Lois squeezes Gin between vehicles, in theatrical version, that's all it shows. She hits him, Gin yells in pain, and cuts to Sue arriving at the house to meet with Willie and Thurman Merman. They don't show Markus killing Gin with the jumper cables attached to the battery. We see a more evil Markus in this one. This movie came the same year John Ritter died. Bernie Mac passed away five years later. I like Simone's reaction to "fuck me Santa, fuck me Santa, fuck me Santa." lmao. Didn't see that on Gilmore Girls lol. I still don't get why Thurman and Sue are attracted to Willie. Because the story says so for the movie to work? lol

1h 39m, should be the unrated cut. The theatrical is 1h 32m.

Never worked at a Mall, But my Dad was a Personnel Santa. (Went to your home), And I dressed as the Elf.

The sequel is awful though - they just focused on the swearing and totally forgot the heart that the first film had hidden among all the dark humour

JayF

Love this movie. Too funny. If you want more John Ritter and Billy Bob Thornton then I suggest Slingblade. BBT's best performance that I've seen.

Odd Thomas

I think you'd love Fred Claus, it has a similarly grumpy protagonist with Vince Vaughn doing his Scrooge thing

JayF

George, as to BBT making your list of guys you can't see in a sexual situation. I agree. I don't get it either but the dude was married to Angelina Jolie at one point.

There's another great underrated Christmas movie very similar to this one called The Ref (1994) starring Denis Leary and Kevin Spacey. It has that same dark, irreverent humor with a redemption story arc at the end. I doubt it'll win any polls here, but you guys should check it out on your own if you haven't seen it.

Rhys Haug

Thanks for doing the extended version! That was the only version I ever saw

Dr. Johnny Fever

Yes the Columbia logo was modeled after a real person in the 1990s. You can google the original photo. She is quite good looking.

Logan Kerlee

This movie's great stuff! I had a blast watching with you two. :D I first watched this many years ago when it first came out. I was a kid then and thankfully I was in the know with Santa. Such a fun movie. :P Controversial as heck but wow, it's good stuff. :) Oh, and yeah, there's totally a sequel out there. Came out in 2016, I believe. Pretty sure that it isn't as good as the original but it exists. If/when ya'll need a bad raunchy comedy there ya go. :)

Dr. Johnny Fever

Yes, I have done it in a changing room. It was only once 10 years ago. Definitely something to try.

🤣🤣 Thanks guys for bringing me back to this, definitely I forgot how funny this fucken movie was.

As a former mall Santa (well, shopping centre as is in the UK), I can attest to it being both gruelling yet satisfying. Regular laundering of the suit was essential as pee and vomit were an everyday occurrence. Nothing like feeling your knee getting wetter and warmer, just sighing, and thinking about the dry-cleaning bill. Oh, and I set fire to my beard having a cigarette. But it's still fun, and you'd have to be pretty mean-spirited to not get happiness from seeing smiling faces. Plus, the changing room fun was also a definite thing. As was the stockroom, staffroom, cash desk, and wherever else me and my partner (the deputy manager) could find.

MacGuffinStuff

There is another dark comedy with Billy Bob Thornton, and John Cusack, pretty sure it takes place on Christmas, maybe it's New Year's I forget, "The Ice Harvest", it was very Fargo-esque. Oh man, that reminded me that Billy Bob is in the first season of Fargo, the show, along with Martin Freeman. You guys MUST watch this show!

Persnickity

I live in the US and watched along with the directors cut on amazon prime. It's a completly different movie. He doesnt sober up at all. Which does make the later scenes make more sense but really takes a lot of heart away from the movie. WHAT!! This version doesn't have Therman Merman's redemption!!! This is truelly the shittiest cut...

samuel Jakob

Its good you say the subscribe thing at the start, ive been a patron for a couple of months now and watched your yt even before that, I just figured I was subscibed to your Yt, apparently I wasnt lol. Fixed that misstake now, hope you get to 100k soon you guys are by far my favorite reaction channel! btw. loved the reaction this is probably my favorite chirstmas comedy and kind of a tradition by now.

Matt Gwinn

Another movie that isn't streaming anywhere. Guess I'll have to rent it

Odd Thomas

Key John Ritter role: Stephen King's IT (the mini-series)

Chase Schleich

Also another hard to find unrated version that definitely isn't streaming anywhere even if the theatrical version was. I love this channel, I really do, but I'm spending a fortune having to rent movies because they always choose the unrated/directors cut/special edition version of films.

Bennett Holleman

Grandma is Frau Blucher (horses neighing) from Young Frankenstein.

Alex Ch

Almost any film written by Shane Black is a Christmas movie, but I would recommend “The Long Kiss Goodnight” as a dark Christmas classic.

Lindsay G

I think it was an decent movie, but I wouldn't call it a classic. Still worth a watch though.

Tyler Mckenzie

Simone, I'm with you. I can't watch Gilmore Girls the same way anymore. I am forever going to picture Lorelei having sex with Santa in a hot tub.

Psyclopath

I had the same feeling while GG was on air. I just pretended she was banging Luke instead (Wishful thinking back then). Honestly, I was only interested in this movie because Lauren Graham was in it. It turned out to be a great movie in the end.

Mark Rohal

Speaking of Billy Bob Thornton and Jon Ritter movies. Have either of you seen Sling Blade? Has that been on a poll before?

MikeBdrx

I also like John Ritter. If you haven’t already, check out STAY TUNED. I think you’d enjoy it

Steve H

The Goliath - first season was great with Billy Bob T. as well. And the 1st season of Fargo, with Billy Bob as well.
