The Expanse: Season 2 - Episode 7 & 8 - Patreon Version

Comments

It is interesting gauging George's reactions. It does feel like he is tolerating more than enjoying but since they seem to keep going with their watch of it I go along for the ride. I need very little excuse to -rewatch the Expanse. I think I am in the midst of at least 2 other channels that are watching it.

Takes time to get from the Jovian system to Earth - even at the sort of speeds they do in the ships in the show, it'd be like a month or something - actually it's hard to tell but quite a lot of time passes in some of these episodes. Sometimes they're good at showing the passage of time and time jumps sometimes not so much. Tycho is in the belt, so much closer than Earth, by the end of episode 8 Bobbie might not even have reached Mars' sun orbit yet.

It saddens me so much to see how much George seems to be tolerating this show. I am reasonably sure that in the near future, this will change, but as someone who watches these reactions for the emotional investment of others, it wounds me deeply. I am thrilled to see Simone getting the bug, and I look forward to seeing the next few reveals through her eyes. But I mostly await the video when at the end, both are saddened that they don't have time for the next episode.

Note the scar on Anderson Dawes' neck in the scene when Fred is asking him to represent the belt. That scar is from older spacesuit models Belters used to use; sometimes they would burn the wearer's neck, and that scar is what Naomi and other belters are emulating with their neck tattoos. OG belters have the scars and the younger generations copy them with their tattoos.

i love the Expanse more than I can put into words, but if either of them aren't enjoying it, they aren't going to by now. I hope they just don't continue. Its not fair to make George or Simone continue if they aren't enjoying it, or even if one of them is barely tolerating it.

To learn more about Amos and his past, they won't be as clear and straightforward as with the other characters. You have to pay attention to everything he says on the few times he does speak about his past to get an idea about what he went through in life before leaving Earth. If you want a fuller explanation, read the short story "The Churn" and the comics that are prequels to the first season of the show.

To answer Simone's question, the contention between Holden and Fred Johnson at the end is that Holden wants to destroy the Protomolecule and Fred wants to study it or control it. Both characters want to protect against another disaster but are divided about how to do it.

only five more episodes until we can get back to the wire

There's a reason the chap that plays Anderson Dawes is such a good actor. Jared Harris is the son of Richard Harris, the legendary actor who most younger people know as the original Dumbledore in the first couple of Harry Potter movies, but who had a resume as long as a belter's arm.

Never knew they were related! But once you know you can’t unsee it!!

Simone/George. If you aren’t enjoying the Expanse I’d like to suggest the 2004 series Battlestar Galactica for you next watch. That is if you haven’t already watched it and you aren’t done with sci-fi.

Yes! The show is picking up now that Prax (Plant guy) has joined the show. I'm very happy to see Simone is invested in Bobbie. Her story line is the best. I'm glad you guessed wrong about Drummer being a traitor. This show does keep you guessing and then swerves. It is a pleasure watching you guys. Thank you!

counting the days we get the Wire back

This fact is very morbid but true, don't read if you are squeamish! The people who got thrown out of the air lock would over the course of a few days to weeks clump together and make a human comet due to the gravitational attraction to each other. Since space is vast and they are unlikely to get picked up, they would orbit the sun for eons as a frozen ball of humans.

Since in The Expanse ships typically operate under constant or frequent thrust, then when temporarily running cold out in deep space they should actually be on pretty eccentric, comet-like orbits with periapse much closer to the Sun. Likely that those body balls would eventually orbit much closer to the Sun and be incinerated like little flesh snowflakes on a warming afternoon

I admit I haven't had much fun with this show. I watched S1 twice to try to get on board and stayed lukewarm. Somehow stalled at the start of S2 until you started watching it. Since it's my first watch, I prefer to watch alone and only check for your comments. I'm happy to report that before the season was over, I genuinely started to like it. Not because of any single thing, but just it just overall becomes a much more enjoyable show in pretty much every way. I will definitely keep watching. So thanks to all you non-toxic fans who kept recommending this!

I tried getting into it and struggled as well. I have friends who *adore* it. At some point I’m sure I’ll go back and give it another try.

Kim-Christian Nielsen

George, you seem very indifferent to the show, still. Maybe you should stop when season 2 ends. I don't know if it's my place to say this, but you should watch something you like so you don't burn out or start resenting this. I very much like The Expanse and I revel in reliving it with... Simone. I'm not sure where I'm going with this. Your dynamic is works best when you're both clearly into a thing, and your exasperated sighs and eye-rolls aren't a good thing for us in the audience.

The politics of the Belt are so insane, because you can see the logic in almost ever single position as they go back and forth. Especially when you think about how much the Belt has endured. Would be a nightmare to try and get everyone to work together.
