Steve H

there are churches and speak in tongues, (its not a language, just idiotic bab ying , and true worship is traded for emotional crazy. Believe that there are rational people.

Will Moffett

Considering how much money churches have, it's pretty wild that the church they were in was a converted airplane hanger lol

samuel Jakob

Finally got around to watching this, holy shit I am so exhausted after this, especially after the scene with both of them naked in the hotel, I felt like I was high from laughting :D

Redrum Sacrament

I saw this in theaters when it came out. Borat came out the same day The Santa Clause 3 did if I'm not mistaken and there were kids watching Borat. I take it they snuck in lol. The kids rather watch Borat and Azamat fight naked than watch Tim Allen as Santa Clause lol. Pamala Anderson sex tape was infamous if not notorious in the 90's. Pamala was with Kid Rock when she filmed Borat and Kid Rock blames Borat movie for they're break up lol. Not kidding. You could say Sasha was a head of his time. You was playing a character that was not so well educated and was taught the bad stuff and sadly we see that some of those southern Americans were not so different in what they were taught. It's genius. Makes no sense those college idiots tried to sue Sasha Baron Cohen for showing the world how they really are. Those college losers remind of the many people who raped and vandalized Woodstock 1999. Do research about that if you dare. They made two documentaries about Woodstock 1999. That's where my mind went rewatching this with you two.

RuinFox

Aw looks like this is one that hasnt been changed over to "no-copy" yet lol.

W T

verry nais, i like!

Onno Smits

This is in that category of comedy that is so cringe/awkward that I have physical trouble watching it... 😅 I'm gonna give it a shot with you guys, but I doubt I'll make it through! 🤣

W T

for me it just loops back around so hard, I could watch it all day long

DarthChef

The people he interacts with in America are real. They were told they were interviewing someone from another country and that is it. All of the shots "in the wild" are also real.

Martin

I’ve been looking forward to this reaction. Making a prediction regarding the reaction to “The Scene.” George laughs maniacally. Simon holds her hands up, closes her eyes, shakes her head, and yells “No, no, NO!”

Jim Johnson

The frat guys actually sued over their depiction. They were not successful.

Martin

Those guys were the worst. My hope is that they’ve grown up and evolved since then.

Jim Johnson

Second one is definitely good and you guys should watch it. The character was actually originated in Da Ali G show, if you want even more Borat

Dustin Lollar

Yes he WAS nominated for an Oscar for this for Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay. All of these people were not told until afterwards, so all the reactions are legit. Only Borat and the Producer were in on it. Everyone was told he was filming a documentary so the cameras were all definitely expected. Buy yes he made LOTS of news while filming it. EVERYONE WAS REAL except the prostitute she is a comedian. But at the time NO ONE in the states knew who he was. He had only been on HBO with The Ali G Show , which is also hilarious. But that was his schtick before he started "acting seriously" he did this kind of gorilla comedy. He has three or four characters that he does this with. Genius. You must add The Dictator to the poll. It's one of his funniest movies.

Einherj

The second movie is not as good IMO. It seems rushed and feels like the candid footage they got was not that good so they tried to supplement it with more scripted scenes and gobble it all together in editing. Worth a watch, but not as good as the first one. The main actress is great, though.

Rob M

I’m pretty sure everyone in this movie is real outside of Borat, Azamat and Luenell. And I think Pamela was the only one who knew what was going to happen, so even though that scene is staged the security thought it was real

Martin

Seconding “The Dictator.” It’s a brilliant comedy.

JayF

Here's an article that actually includes interviews with the people involved. I have no sympathy for the ones that spewed racist and homophobic BS. I do feel sorry for the woman that setup his appearance at that news show. She ended up losing her job. https://www.salon.com/2006/11/10/guide_to_borat/

Michael Kang-Beats

All "real" people. All the lawsuits were thrown out. Pamela was staged. They did two takes because in the first take none of the fans reacted to the kidnapping. LOL. Only Pamela was in on it.

Andy

In 2012, Maria Dmitrienko from Kazakhstan won the gold medal at international competition. When Maria Dmitrienko was on the podium, the Kazakhstan parody theme from Borat was played instead of the real national anthem. She took it pretty well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5T35K2x1uw

Paul McBryde

You would love "Borat's Television Programme Special" which aired 2 years before the movie.

pedantech

Kid Rock flipped out about the movie and divorced Pamela a few weeks after seeing it. They listed "Borat" as the reason for the divorce.

Rob Parry

You should check out Sacha Baron Cohen’s Golden Globes award acceptance speech where he talks about the face sitting scene

John

Can't believe no one is recommending but PLEASE add Bruno to watchlist, or follow after this. Arguably more daring and funny

Odd Thomas

Think I'll give this a miss.

Eik104

Such a fun reaction haha. From the little knowledge I have in Polish and Russian, I think Borat speaks actual Kazakh. The few words I understand make sense in the context at least.

Mike

I'm legit nervous for y'all going into this... def will be giving this a watch with y'all after work tonight... but knowing what you're in for....

David Bridgham

The second movie is not as consistently funny as the first, but it has some amazing moments and is definitely worth watching.

David Bridgham

Also, as someone who was in college in a small town in the Midwest when this movie came out, neither the rodeo scene nor the frat boy scene were as surprising for me that they were real people. I wish I could say otherwise.

AlimonyMoney

If you are looking for a good Christmas romance movie, check out Last Christmas 2019 with emila clarke. That movie has a good ending. It even has Michele Yeoh in it.

Ben

I may be wrong, but I believe that many of the participants in this film signed releases upon being told they were taking part in "a foreigners film about America", which technically is true, as Cohen is British. I suggest checking out the sequel, honestly it was a lot better than I expected it to be. I've only seen it once, so I should give it a rewatch, your reaction would be a good excuse!

MikeBdrx

Thank you lol This reaction alone was worth this months membership $ 🤣

Austin Working

I also had no idea that apples originated in Kazakhstan. Or that they had originated anywhere, really. Huh,

Opti_Frog

I don't think i've ever heard such explosive laughter in a cinema as when i saw Borat in 2006. It's quite fun and interesting to contrast Borat's USA dinner etiquette lesson, and the guests' reaction, with the UK version he did before on TV. Just do a youtube search for "Hilarious Borat At the Dinner Table".

Prof. Writhms

The hooker who became Borat's wife was played by a stand-up comedian named Luenell Campbell. She says because of that role, to this day people stop her on the street and ask her for blowjobs. I'm sure that was a joke. 😄

Nathan Londrie

I chuckled at first, but that's actually horrible. Whoever was in charge really f'ed up.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Genius, absolute genius. It's one of those movies that will never be quite as funny as the first time you watch it, but still so damn funny. Especially because I hadn't seen it in so long, I remembered what happened in pretty much every scene but I forgot enough that it was hilarious all over again. I hope you guys do watch the sequel, I haven't seen it, although I do remember what Giuliani got gotcha'd for lol. Anyway, think I'll wait and see if it's on the Bingelist.

Mitchell Bowker

Definitely watch the sequel, full title: "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan". Filmed from late 2019 through 2020 - quite a turbulent time period in recent history, so you can imagine the Borat antics!

KL

The Kazakstan government hated it when it came out. But now they've leaned into it. "Very nice!" is part of their official tourism slogan.

Paul Tassin

I’m a new Patron and this was my first full length watch along. Fun times!

Logan Kerlee

That was a quick and fun watch! :) Glad that I took the time to watch this! xD This is the second time that I've watched this movie today. haahaha, wow. Good stuff, I'm glad I got to enjoy this with you both. :)

Philipp Roensch

You got to see the second one, this is hilarious to see with you again.^^

DarthChef

Sacha Baron Cohen had a show in the early 2000's called "Da Ali G Show" that had his Borat character. The show was very much like the movie and also featured his other characters Ali G and Bruno. Don't really want to spoil anything about those characters, other than they are very different than Borat. He did make a movie using Bruno called "Bruno". You can find clips of the show on YouTube. Of the three my favorite is Ali G, "BooYahKaaShaa"

Nikodevious

The studio released DVD for Borat looks like a +r burnable disk, with the word Borat written on it by a black sharpie, slightly off center. It's a very nice.
