Notification bubble cut off “Review” and saw Stallone’s face, really thought this was going to be “A Year In Rambo”

JoshG

15 minutes in and I heard a top gun spoiler that I’ve managed to ignore for so long now😂

Robert Cooper

I just have to say, Simone reminds me so much of my little sister, and George reminds me of, not kidding, my friend George. You guys are fun if tragically philistines. But I guess if you people had seen it movies, we wouldn't be here.

Martin Nicholls

Wall of text alert, sorry: The Fly I remember seeing as a young kid in the 80's and I remember it freaked me out for a while, and the thing with the dog gave me nightmares. Stallone is such an underrated actor -- he's obviously an absolute legend in celebrity terms, but I don't think he gets the credit he deserves for his acting, add to the fact he wrote both Rocky and Rambo, wow.. I just realised I haven't seen your Borat reaction, haven't seen that in a long time - you should watch The Dictator, trust me lol. Everything Everywhere is one of those movies people won't shut up about (no disrespect to the movie or you guys) - I'm surprised to hear you thought it was underrated, even following that standard. On viewership the thing for me is a lot of reaction channels by hook or crook end up doing the exact same movies/shows all at once and as somebody who watches a bunch of reaction channels, some things can grate - e.g. basically everybody has done The Expanse, or the John Wick series (finish JW wen btw) but they've been pretty well spaced out, that one movie was more like Everybody Reacting Everywhere All At Once, so on that front I'm not shocked the counts were low. Criteria for movie reactions, I doubt many people want to watch TV or movies they haven't already seen, so that's your first criteria, obviously - and I think for me aside from mood obviously and thinking what I suspect a reactor will like and what will result in a good reaction (even if George has to blur everything for youtube lol) is rewatchability - a movie people wouldn't rewatch, no matter how good it is first time around, doesn't make for a good reaction movie; you guys did Something About Mary the other day which but for one caveat doesn't have much rewatch value, _except_ for the fact because of that most people probably haven't seen it in years and not many people have reacted to it, which elevates back into worth a reaction. I mentioned The Wedding Singer a while back because you kept talking about wedding singers in a few movies (great movie btw) which fits that pattern, it's not ordinarily a movie you'd rewatch despite it being good and funny, but nobody has done a reaction to it and most people won't have seen it in years which elevates it (for me anyway). Hunt For Red October I think is overrated, particularly when put next to something like Crimson Tide which is a similar era (ish), not too distant subject matter, it pales in comparison; they're both a bit silly but the writing and acting is far better in CT. Fun fact about Crimson Tide is it was script doctored by Tarantino. I'm not gonna comment on Simone's personal thing with American Pie, but I don't think it's aged well at all, it's my generation's movie and even I cringe watching it. I'm surprised Arrival didn't end up in your surprises list, but yes, stunning movie, amazing soundtrack too. Also some of your thumbnails have complete creeped me out this year, so thanks for that lol. I'll shut up now. In re Sicario btw I hope you guys finish off the soft trilogy by reacting to Hell or High Water and Wind River some day..

Robert Cooper

Honestly, you should look at more Soderberg. All his movies, no matter the genre are smooth like "Oceans 11". "Haywire" is just a giant pile of fun. I love that you guys loved Jackie Brown. I have long said it is Q's best, and far and away Sam Jackson's best. Best thumbnail was definitely Commando.

Nathan Swapp

I think some videos fail despite the popularity of the movie because there's a popularity wave, there's a million reactions, the audience gets burnt out and then the film gets forgotten. People move on. And if the film gets put out too late, it's skipped. If it's put out in the wave, it gets buried. I don't have the answer to the best timing but that's what I think.

Nathan Swapp

I love Hunt for the Red October but it's what we call a "dad movie."

Charlie Murphy

hunt for red october? say it ain't so! that's ok, i really like thubmarines and it's the ultimate thubmarine movie. great listening to you, simone and george!

Grand Moff Slackin'

Arrival, Bladerunner 2049, Sicario - Villeneuve doing some work for the Cinebitches this year!

golfextreme

I just did a search and can’t believe you guys have never done Braveheart. It’s got the shocking scenes that people look for, plus it’s a great movie that both of you will cry at.

Jeff K

I would absolutely say, for another Soderbergh, they should check out Logan Lucky. Such a fun movie, super under-appreciated. It's basically redneck Ocean's Eleven, directed by the guy who actually made Ocean's Eleven. And it's got Daniel Craig doing his Foghorn Leghorn Southern accent before he ever made Knives Out.

JoshGrobansDryMouth

Calling people philistines and following it up with “you people had seen it movies” lol, that’s what’s tragic

Simone: "Would you like to see movies of me explaining movies?" Sure, why not. I can picture it now: "Dinosaurs escape and kill everyone in sight" - The Expendables 3 "Two guys go up a mountain to destroy a ring" - Brokeback Mountain

Monica Alarcon

Oooh the starfleet top is back. I need one...

A bit of personal perspective on movie reactions: Foreign language films just don't get the views since either people don't like subtitles or don't understand the underlying culture. For Maverick: I didn't watch the reaction because I have not yet watched the movie. I suppose there there are a lot of people that are still unwilling to see a movie in a theater and are waiting for it to be free on streaming services before watching a reaction.

Odd Thomas

How do I find/search for reactions? If it's a Patreon channel I follow, I'll probably work my way through ALL of them at some point, either full length or Youtube cut (or at least the films I like). Once I'm caught up on everything I'll watch new videos as they come. If it's a great film I might look on Youtube for other reactions and find channels I like, but I tend to stay with the half dozen top channels I subscribe to.

Odd Thomas

Re: Maverick, I think you're right that you were a little late to the party and people who'd already seen 6 or 7 reactions had had their fill. Everything Everywhere is great but it's still pretty niche (sadly there are still people who won't watch subtitled stuff)

Odd Thomas

Confirmation there'll be more Final Destination reactions! Yasss

Odd Thomas

Simone, if you like Frances McDormand have you seen Three Billboards? Amazing movie with her, Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson. She won an Oscar for it.

Bruce Bromley

Excellent recap. I was waiting for George's most aggravating but entertaining movie. I'm sure it would have been "My Cousin Vinny". I don't think I've seen any reactor seething that much watching a movie. : -) On another note. Something I didn't realize until I watched the both with you two. Daryl Hannah's character's death in Kill Bill had to be a homage/nod to Pris's death in Blade Runner. They were both thrashing fits. Anyway here's to a fun 2023.

Re: Searching for a reaction. Personally, I found EEAAO to be my gateway into reaction channels. Since you can watch a beloved movie for the first time only once, reaction channels are a way to recapture a small part of that feeling. I ended up watching a bunch of EEAAO reactions, and that sort of proved to be a litmus test of sorts. I was looking for strong, honest reactions. If something clicked for me, I would look up several more videos from those reactors to see if that clicking continued. (I'm currently at 4 patreon channels and a few more youtube-only channels.) While not absolutely required, I find reactor pairs to be more my style than singles(though I have exceptions both ways). I also seem to like it when the pair have significant differences(gender, culture, upbringing, etc.). The other half of searching for new reactors is if they are doing a series/movie that I really like but is not super popular. I have to be really annoyed at a reactor's personality/style to not follow them if they're doing Legend of Vox Machina or Babylon 5. I'll freely admit that seeing Simone in a CR t-shirt is what pushed me from youtube viewer to patron. lol

I always look up my favorite movies first, but there are a handful of movies (The Mist) I look up for specific scenes. I can't remember my gateway movie to this channel. Maybe Green Mile? Best thumbnail? Kill Bill. I think someone started a debate that the feet in the thumbnail was really George's and I found it hilarious. Wishlist for 2023 (because it's Christmas): Perks of Being a Wallflower Children of Men Forgetting Sarah Marshall Manchester by the Sea Grand Budapest Hotel Love Actually Thanks for being the best channel and Merry Christmas!

I hope Everywhere Everything All At Once does not stay underperforming for you, the movie is truly great and already has a cult following. I would wager low views only because it is not already established and people did not want to go get spoiled. Just to let you know how I decide what reaction I'm watching: lighthearted above everything, I don't watch reactions to personal films I already have a different connection to. Then I watch movies I already saw, because spoilers. And then I always like to see you enjoy the same stuff, so I mostly watch movie and series that were great. So if you try to gauge what things to watch for performance, I would go with critics reviews, ignoring box office or viewer ratings, that's where my taste lies. :D Glad you had this much fun in this year of films and reactions. Seriously great experience!

Borat is a fun thumbnail but the Elf one will haunt my dreams forever.

I think you guys are on the right track. While its unique to everyone, I either look for movies with big moments or movies that were super important to me.. like Shawshank. Obviously you're going to be hit or miss on the latter. I think you guys do a great mix if "good movies" and "good reaction movies". And its important. You don't come off hacky like money is the only goal here. You're doing something with it... and every "good movie" you do that doesn't perform great gives you more credibility to me... and makes your body of content more well rounded.

I now can't remember which of you said that Leo's scene where he loses it in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was one of your most memorable scenes but there is bit in this interview where Tarantino discusses that scene (FF to about 1 hour and 7 mins) which was a planned improvisation. The whole interview is really interesting though. Most of the first part is about the casting process for Pulp Fiction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCx67cnQQf8

I agree with Simone, Everything Everywhere and Miles Teller dancing are also my favorite movies of the year!

Brandon Meng

I can't believe I missed Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Jim Carrey's best movie!

Daniel Cortes

1 - When looking for reactions, they are mostly films I've liked, but sometimes I seek out things I didn't like to see how others react. 2 - My favorite reaction from you all this year. - Total recall - Tropic Thunder ( you guys understood all the jokes) - Robocop - Kill Bill 1 & 2 ( I saw a BTS over a decade ago where Tarantino talked about the inspirations and it was great to see George notice them ) - The Exorcist 3 - Best thumbnails - Watchmen, A Quiet Place (George lol) And Kill Bill Vol 2 (See previous answer)

Garrick Smalley

In answer to "How do I choose?" I need to have seen the movie, I may be looking for a certain scene but that is a far third. The rest is what movie fits the mood I am in and do I trust these "friends" to see something I have missed. I would like to sit and drink and watch a movie with you both and this is the closest I can get.

Foodassassin4life

I could not find it streaming to rent I guess I could’ve bought it on Amazon or something to get a physical copy but I could find it apparently it was blocked here in the states at the time and cannot find. Which is weird because months previous to your video I could not stop seeing it on almost every platform

Grandmaster B

Last week I find out Simone is an android, and now that she's a member of Starfleet !! What a way to close out 2022. I'd love to see you guys get into some Wes Anderson films in '23.

I loved this video and seeing you put the films you watched in context and what you did/didn't like. I wanted to answer some of the questions you posted. -Why are some videos less popular: Some of this for me is availability/opportunity. I want to watch "Everything, everywhere, all at once" but it had a short theater run (I missed it), it went to VOD for purchase, and just recently came on streaming through one of the services I have. Once I watch it, I will watch the youtube video. However, I will instantly jump on a video of a film I've seen before so I think older movies (at least a couple of years out) are likely to have more views since you eliminate the "haven't had a chance to see it" contingent. I do make exceptions. I watched Arcane with you for the first time. I'll rewatch it but I seldom want to see a reaction before I've seen the original film or show. -What attracts me to reactors: I start by looking for my favorite films, which is how I found you (Saving Private Ryan, Shawshank Redemption, BTTF). I like genuine but not over the top reactions. I love the dynamic that George and Simone have in terms of poking fun, educating each other, references/random jokes, trying to make each other laugh, but also having genuine reactions if one of you cries or laughs out loud. I also like a variety of genres and you've done quite a bit of that. I follow some alone and some couple/group reactors but you're definitely one of my go-tos. -I think you also mentioned what movies may generate more interest and not necessarily movies with twists or shocks, which I get the appeal of. To me, I like seeing movies that have a cultural connection, either as touchstones that everyone is aware of (The Shining, Robocop, Terminator 2), but also great performances or effects (Interstellar, Shawshank), and cult movies (Snatch, one of my faves you've done). There are still tons of movies I think you would really appreciate because while you're honest if you don't fully click with something, you can still appreciate craftsmanship, good acting, good writing, fresh ideas. To that end, I recommend: -Boogie Nights: great performances, music, cinematography. A pain to edit (music and nudity) but truly brilliant. -Sunshine: innovative, visually stunning, fantastically cast, if flawed sci-fi film. -Scent of a Woman: Great Thanksgiving film but any time of year favorite for top-tier acting. Pacino won best actor and without question. -As Good As It Gets: Jack Nicholson won best actor for this film. Very unique comedy/drama/romcom. Unconventional but also tremendous acting. -Donnie Darko: definitive cult film. Recommend theatrical version (not director's cut). -Your Name: I know anime films are hard to keep on YT but it's truly a brilliant film period, not just animated. -Clerks: another touchstone movie of the 90's. -Contagion: I know Dawn of The Planet of The Apes was triggering COVID-wise but this is miles above that. I remember in theaters I saw it thought "I actually see this happening IRL" and here we are. It's more extreme but still jarring how accurate it was. -From Dusk 'till Dawn: The less you know, the better. -Black Mirror: This show swings in so many directions that it's constantly surprising and thought provoking. I think you would both love it. -Minority Report: Glad you're doing the Mission: Impossible series but this is another great Tom Cruise film. -Red Dragon: Prequel for Silence of The Lambs. IMO better than Hannibal. -12 Angry Men: One of my few "not just good but important" films to watch. Keep up the excellent work!

Also forgot: best thumbnail was Ghost. Laughed out Loud at George with Swayze. Also another rec: The Departed
