Could never get into the pirate franchise but for those who did hope you enjoy this reaction

JayF

You two seem to be doing all the three hour movies lately. I haven't watched this one in years so it will be fun to go back and watch with you.

Jay Davis

Shame. The Director's cut of Stagnetti's Revenge is a cinematic masterpiece. Robbed of the Oscar though. Politics.

Simone: Aren't these kids' movies? First scene of movie: *child executed by hanging*

Josh B.

I definitely recommend the next 2 movies, they aren't as great as the trilogy since they were a cohesive story, but the next 2 are also really fun and delve more into lore, so that is always a bonus for me, really like the reaction and hope we don't have to wait too long for the next 2.

Has anyone here ever watched Mystery Science Theater 3000? This channel reminds me of that show when they start making jokes and bantering back and forth while watching a movie. Actually it would be funny to have a reaction channel reacting to that show, it would be like reactception.

Captain Jack Sparrows dad is Captain Edward Teague, not to be confused with Captain Edward Teach (Blackbeard), though I'm sure there was some influence there lol.

The next two films while not of the same calibur are still fun movies to watch. Even if it will be a while before you react to them I look forward to seeing your reactions to them. The Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my favorite franchises. Though I did have a little bit of a critique on the 5th one that annoyed me. But I'll get into that when you see it. Maybe you'll spot it.

YOU WOULDN'T DOWNLOAD A CAR. YOU WOULDN'T DOWNLOAD WEED. YOU WOULDN'T DOWNLOAD A CANADIAN. I would if I could.

"Why is it 3 hours long?" Exactly.

I kinda hope you continue with the rest of the movies.. I've not seen them in years and years... Not sure how good or bad they actually were.. This would be all the reason I'd need to rewatch.. As an aside, Captain Teague is played by functional immortal Rock legend and Rolling Stone Kieth Richards.. Also.. Any chance you could put together a Discord server for our enjoyment?

The final battle is awful, it never ends and it looks like grey sludge. The whole affair is so bloated and padded compared to the first PotC. There are fun beats, but the best character gets the worst and cheesiest moment: Barbossa marrying Will and Elizabeth. "Just kiss!" gives me the creeps.

Pam Nail

Way back when the first movie came out, Johnny Depp mentioned that one of his main influences in building Jack Sparrow's character and mannerisms was Keith Richards (he said he felt that pirates were like rock stars and that, for him, the greatest rock star was Richards). I love that they came up with a reason to have Keith Richards in one of the movies. Agree that the next two movies aren't as good, but they're still a lot of fun.

Justin Wolford

Captain Jack's dad is Captain Teague not black beard keeper of the code which grants him immortality and is played by the legendary keith richards. Black beard is the villain of the next film. The next 2 are not as good but they are good in there own right. Also you can follow the story of the sword will turner forges in the first movie as it changes owners and is itself a main character of the trilogy up to the point that Will is stabbed to death with it and then takes it for his own such a cool concept to watch unfold.

I understand why the 2nd and 3rd films get hate, but I also think it's a little unfair. People tend to just remember all the cheesy and down right silly bits and forget that these movies also have a lot of really strong, beautiful and well executed moments. Jones is a great complex villain and the love story between him and Calypso works well. And I love the bitter sweet conclusion to Will and Elizabeth's story. I've been waiting on this one for awhile and I'm glad you guys finished it. As for the other films, On Stranger Tides isn't a bad movie. It is weaker than the first three, but is still fun and adds to some already great lore. I would be down to watch it if you guys did it on the channel, but I also wouldn't be upset if you didn't. The 5th movie, however, absolutely shits on a number of things established by the movies before it. So much so that it makes me wonder if the writer/directors ever even saw the movies or if they just read quick plot summaries and threw something together. They disregard so many things which they either just didn't understand, or didn't care about. It's pure garbage and I absolutely despise it. I personally have no interest in seeing it again.

Before you descend further into Pirates madness, please, please, take a pause to watch a good nautical movie: Master & Commander (2003).

Logan Kerlee

The ENTIRE movie felt too long. Holy shit, two hours and nearly forty minutes! Piss breaks were necessary during this. xD I've got no idea who Jack's Father's supposed to be. I REALLY doubt that this movie takes itself that seriously though. I doubt that it would place real life characters into the film aside from popular pirate lore/characters. lmao, Simone! Wow, your Shakespeare needs some work. I'm enjoying these! Turns out that I hadn't seen this one! I thought that I watched this previously, but I guess not! I'm hopeful and looking forward to future Pirates of the Caribbean movies with you both!

sarCC

These movies(except for the first one) really belong on Cinecringe

FranciscoGios

Well there’s a lot of theories of how Elizabeth & Will Tuner’s relationship should work. I for once believe Will can have any treasure he can have so he could use the Fountain of Youth potion; hence giving Elizabeth a long young life. The last two aren’t great but they are watchable. Please keep watching.

Astraeos

I found it absolutely hilarious how Simone said this was a kids movie, and then they immediately proceed to show piles of bodies and hang a literal child in the beginning of the movie. This isn't a kids movie. Kids movies aren't really rated PG-13. Not sure how that impression got across. Also George you are amazing for that Stan Rogers Northwest Passage comment. Though I suppose Canadians are required to know that

Monica Alarcon

Jack Sparrow's Father is played by Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones... Johnny Depp said he partially modeled Jack Sparrow after him... So this series has a Rolling Stone and a Beatle..

gobmob2000

You now have to watch Master and Commander, Far Side of the World. It depicts realistic naval battles.

Huckleberry lobo

even though the sequels hereafter get progressively worse, you can't deny the cast's performance in each one! Drink up me heartys yo-ho! 😉🏴‍☠️

If you 2 Get A craving for more Pirates! I would highly recommend the underrated Black Sails. Its a prequel to treasure island

Starromania72

Others have been suggesting Master & Commander for realism and some measure of historical authenticity (and rightly so). However, if you wish to go in the opposite direction - a fantastical journey set in roughly the same era which, like PotC, veers off into myth, legend & folklore and a main protagonist for whom the laws of physics are more guidelines than actual rules, then I would suggest The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988) by Terry Gilliam. Not much piracy per se but plenty of ships, shipwrecks, monsters, petty bureaucrats and superhuman feats of derring-do. And bonus: it also stars Jonathan Pryce!

Keen7981

A little late to the party, but Treasure Island is Long John Silver. Also, the T.V. series Black Sails is a prequel to Treasure Island and is super incredibly not bad.

Can't enough recommend Our Flag Means Death. A short, unfinished TV show about the last years of Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard, very funny, and with as much historical accuracy as they could manage while prioritizing putting the most gay romance they could into the gaps. And yeah why couldn't Elizabeth just join the Dutchman's crew, after spending most of the movie overturning superstitions about lady sailors?
