Jeff K

The very pinnacle of "Bayhem" right here.

Shane Kolaga

Little disappointing, Dwayne Johnson wasn't even in this movie! (I didn't watch reaction yet so don't know if you guys made the same joke haha)

Jason Pratt

in the shower, it was a clothesline. You could steam your clothes with the shower to help get the wrinkles out after unpacking your suitcase.

Jason Pratt

There’s also a fan theory that a mission of 007 went awry and the US government captured James Bond and Mason is the alias he gave.

Jason Pratt

Crap, sorry George I commented before I got to that part in the video. Good call!

Danika Silva

One of his not so greater films that George would really enjoy is his movie Entrapment with Catherine Zeta-Jones..

jmundt33a

To note, this Con Air, and Entrapment are all of equivalent quality and enjoyment level.

Jinyatta

This was like 64% Cage, if you want to see 90% Cage, you need to see The Wicker Man

Jinyatta

The reason they didn't pay was the US doctrine for the longest time has been that We don't negotiate with terrorists. Hummel should have known that.

Jeff K

Fun fact: the Black marine who isn’t Tony Todd (who Mason throws off the roof during the climax) is an actor named Steve Harris; his brother is Wood Harris, aka Avon Barksdale

Stu84

This is Bays best movie. The 90's had some great movies that were abit deeper than the all out action Bay movies of today. The Siege, The Sum of all fears, Die hard with vengeance.

jmundt33a

Sum of All Fears is a pale imitation of the previous Jack Ryan films. And Bad Boys is probably considered the best.

Andrew Charles

Don't be rough with my hummer. - I will not make a joke, I will not make a joke, I will not make a joke....

Gaius Frakking Baltar

Michael Biehn was a Navy Seal in The Abyss a few years before playing a Navy Seal in The Rock, and he served with the Colonial Marines in Aliens - a true military hero!

Jeff K

Don't forget what a crucial role he played as a soldier in the resistance against Skynet.

Dave Gaskin

For more great Bay-directed action + comedy, Bad Boys and it’s sequel are really good fun. The budget on the first was tiny, but by the second one which came 8 years later it’s full on big budget style.

Fuzzy Dunlop

Random question for anyone: is there a Cinebinge discord?

Robert Elliott

Glad u watched this movie One of my favorites. Your idea of James Bond is something a utuber has already covered and he explains the timeline very well compared to Sean Connery play 007. I can’t remember who did it but it does look like he could be Bond.

Donald Selvester

If terrorists know that you will acquiesce to their demands, you'll only encourage more terrorist attacks, hence "we do not negotiate with terrorists"

PIG

I used to love this movie as a kid. I doubt I can sit through it now lol

MongoTheElder

To be honest, I'd watch you "do" The Rock

Oscar Diggs

I think the only reason they didn’t do this is that Eon would have charged an arm and a leg to get the rights. Every part of the story backs it up. It’s my head cannon, at least.

Pajander

This really is peak Bay. It's the right amount of heightened to be fun, the bayisms somehow work and he's not quite so over-over-over-over-the-top yet. Probably had some good producers reining him in too.

David Crabtree

I love this film, It would probably rank around #4 for my favorite Michael Bay films. It would be 1) 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, 2) Armageddon 3) Transformers 4) The Rock.

EnwhyZee

The reason they don't pay the demand money is because US/UK policy is to not negotiate with terrorists. For a varity of reasons, mainly to discourage more terrorism. During 2013–14, ISIS in Syria captured around 20 Western hostages. All of those hostages’ families received financial demands, and every government except the UK and US paid. That doesn't mean there haven't been examples of negotiating with terrorist in history, but it isn't policy

Byron

Please do Face/Off. Cage. Travolta. John Woo. The 90s.

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

If they did George's method and just pay...then every terrorist would just constantly be taking hostages waiting for their payout... easiest way to make sure you get as many terrorists as possible is to pay terrorists

Hamesque

Honestly I think the bigger issue, and what they should have leaned into, was having to acknowledge the illegal military operations. They briefly touch on it with the one guy saying they never confirmed sending people into China during Vietnam, but I always kinda figured that was the bigger sticking point, not the money.

redddfer44

It was one of my teenage favorites. After seeing Armageddon, I refused to watch any more Michael Bay movies. The Canadian magic persuaded me to give this a rewatch and I like it as much as I remember. It's a really fun mix of dad thriller and tongue-in-cheek action that's both funny and surprisingly sincere. Ed Harris gives it so much heart.

HeyHeyJK

Worst filmed car chase ever. All tight shots. No wides to give us any sense of where they are in relation to each other, etc. At least, that's how I remember the voice in my head when I saw it in theaters. Don't feel the need to rewatch it to see if that still rings true.

Steve H

Apart from this movie, San Fran never saw this many cars destroyed in ten min. before.

POSTALMNDCLARITY

This was my favorite movie growing up. It definitely has its super cheesy moments but it still holds up, imo.

Logan Kerlee

My childhood fave was The Terminator/Terminator II: Judgement Day but I'm totally with you on loving this one! It's a lot of fun with a great deal of action and emotion as well.

Jobbe Smit

@13:00 that *thing* is indeed a clothesline. In this case to dry stuff.

Jobbe Smit

If you create collateral damage (kill civilians) to kill terrorists you just breed more terrorists. Nation states rarely follow actual common sense, they follow the money. You're right paying your incentivize more terrorists at the same time these guys had a very specific motivation. Honestly the fact they demanded money might actually disqualify them as terrorists. Terrorists want to change public opinion and policy through terror. Wanting to be paid makes you a common criminal, not a terrorist who need an ideological objective.
