Cinebinge

woops! set it to 8pm release instead of 8am. sorry!

Foodassassin4life

Please watch another animated series like Cowboy Bebop (not the Netflix adaptation) or Gravity Falls

Ian Hunter (NewbieInOttawa)

LOL - Simone's CineBitch shirt is awesome - how have I not noticed that shirt before? (For the record, she seems like a sweetheart ❤ Oh, you are too, George. 😉)

Jeff K

Episode 6 has probably my favorite interaction in the entire series (Bunk and Omar). So fucking good.

Martin

Between seasons 3 and 4 of The Wire, I’d like to make a couple of suggestions for the next series: Succession Euphoria Both are brilliant.

G P

Check out OZ - I haven't seen anyone react to it yet, its up there with the wire (and has a lot of the same cast). Very interesting, intense series, nothing else like it out there.

Avon being just a gangster is one of the best part of the series for me. While Stringer is trying to reform the game and go legit he loses what got him there. Avon knows the cost of the game, all his friends dead or locked up all the bodies they dropped all the rep he got for playing the game well thats the game and Stringer trying to change it doesnt matter. S1 ep 1 the game stays the game.

#TeamAvon That’s all i’m gonna say

Jeff K

The scene where Stringer is breaking down the history of Baltimore kingpins, and he starts by mentioning "Melvin" he's referring to Melvin Williams - the real life inspiration for Avon, and the guy who plays the deacon that counsels Cutty.

GBmain

I think it's pretty clear some things are more important than money for Avon and in Stringer's mind cash is king... Avon has a point about not being seen as weak, if that little mafia council falls apart and start turning on one another, what the hell does Stringer have left without muscle and corners... Sure I prefer Stringers approach but you need both in my opinion. George was a little hard on Avon lol

I thought it was a revelatory moment when Avon said he never even thought he'd live this long, let alone get that kind of wealth. What kind of plans can you make for a better future, a reform, or a healthy neighborhood when people look at life like that? When kids grow up in an environment where the so-called laws of the jungle seem eternal and immutable, it'll take more than some educational videos to rectify a huge social problem like that. Johnny's freaking about Bubs snitching plays into the same thing, I think: the rules of the game are set and he knows everyone's role in it. From his perspective, getting upset at the guys beating him up would probably be like getting mad at gravity after he slipped and fell from the fourth story window. I really like George's analysis of Avon vs. Stringer! And I'm very much with Simone on the D'Angelo angle. I don't really remember much of the show after season 2; I just remember being really upset about Dee even on the first viewing and that's the death that's stuck with me the most. Purely from a storytelling perspective, I love it when the writers actually give meaning to a death like that. It can really suck when a great character dies and their death is basically forgotten in the next episode already.

When Avon says "He still a man" he's showing that he felt respect for the way that Cutty stood up and admitted that he couldn't go back to what he was before he went to prison. And he was maybe feeling a little envious that Cutty could admit that he wasn't that man anymore while Avon himself is struggling to find his place again in a world and 'game' that's changed.

Jeff K

Y'all are officially more than 50% done with The Wire. Congrats, and also I'm so sorry that you now have fewer episodes left to watch than you've already seen.

Olli

Avon values respect from other players of the game. Stringer wants to be smarter than everyone else and have smart people tell him that he is. For Stringer money is a good measurement of outsmarting the system. For Avon it is just a byproduct of being good at the real game.

Jay

Stringer needs to up his business card game, that crappy looking thing ain't gonna make Patrck Bateman sweat.

Kevin Hoffmann

I think it's cool they're going through the motions everyone does on the first watch. "Stringer's so smart, but Avon can't see the forest for the trees." This show really gets better the more times you watch it.

Jay

It really does. This is my 4th watch and it won't be the last.

Joe Williams

Great discussion at the end. I've always seen Avon as a fascinating character, despite him seeming one dimensional at times. He sees through the deceit of the "legal" route almost immediately, probably more clearly than Stringer. For characters like Avon, the money is almost incidental. It's not what motivates him. It's about making a name for himself, and that mindset is what he grew up around and lived his entire life.

Ginger

But what about The Wire season 3? xD

Alex Ch

Veronica Mars would be great.

Matthew s

There are lots of intense moments in this series, but I still think Cutty slapping the girl might be the most jarring thing that happens.

Tenn Seven

Chris and Snoop! Can't wait for them to get to the next season.

Gary Coaston

Where’d she get that cauldron sized mug from tho?

Irate Spec

That kid reaching for the inhaler was the same kid viciously beating Bodie and his crew with a bat.

PIG

"Heads up" aren't fun. Being hit, UNAWARE, in the head by a great scene is the best.

Stan the Man

Just curious, I’m new to this channel. Is The Sopranos something you two might watch in the future? Or have you already seen it?

SlaverStudios

Honestly? This is the best call I've heard in a long time. That show is the reason "underrated" exists as a term. What an absolutely amazing show.

It all happened so fast. We Own This City seriously scratched that Wire itch though, for obvious reasons. I think it almost hits even harder, because that one is 100% based upon fact. Real people. Real violence. Real murders. Real abuse of power.
