Heaven help us. Here we go!

redddfer44

A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one!

Foodassassin4life

There isn't any place to stream this movie here in the U.S. so you have to own a physical copy

Haye Zeus

Not my fav of the View Askew movies but still fun. I love Chasing Amy and Clerks is a classic for us 90’s kids who got raised by gen x

djKENTO

Hey homies, I know this movie is hard to find on physical media and isn’t legally streaming anywhere. Lemme ease your burden if you feel weird about pirating this movie. Kevin Smith makes no money off the films he made with the Weinsteins anymore. He donates the residuals he gets to charity because of Harvey and how he’s a terrible piece of shit. If you want to give Kevin money, buy some merch, donate to women’s shelters or anti-abuse charities. Kevin honestly has no control over this movie getting sold again, it is what it is.

BND

oh man I haven't watched this movie in years. Looking forward to watching it again.

punterjoe

I think you would really enjoy Good Omens. And it would be a joy to watch you watch it. 😈

Persnickity

Good omens is an excellent show. It's super british in a good way. Quircky, funny, thought provoking

gobmob2000

The Good Omens TV show is pretty good and worth a watch. But you guys should also watch Battlestar Galactica, one of the best ever scifi shows and The Orville, the spiritual successor to Star Trek and Galaxy Quest.

Michael Kemmet

GAAAAIIIILLL!!! (if you know, you know :) ) ... Good Omens would be a decent watch. Only six episodes, so it wouldn't hold the channel hostage for a really long time if it doesn't do well. I personally love the book much more, but that's because I adore Terry Pratchett's writing style and that's something impossible to completely translate to the screen. Since it appears George hasn't seen LoVM, I'm going to suggest that again. ;) I'd also love to suggest Babylon 5, since word was just released about the upcoming animated film/continuation, but I can't do that in good conscious because I'm sure it would do poorly; far too niche and dated(plus the copyright holder has inconsistent YouTube takedown spasms). Too bad, because it's a great and overlooked series that rarely gets reacted to. When it hit its stride in late season 2, it became some of the best TV science fiction made to that date. And its storytelling style influenced most every major story-based series since.

Martin

Dogma is a fun movie with a cool concept. Maybe not the first movie they should watch in the View Askewverse. A good viewing order would be Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and then Dogma. Clerks 2 and 3 aren’t necessary. Neither is Jay and Silent Bob Strikes back. Those three movies aren’t very good.

Anodyne

Do run through the View Askewniverse - it's great! And Clerks 2 had me on the floor in stitches...

Jim Johnson

Bartleby and Loki didn’t get what they wanted, they are in Hell. They didn’t go through the church before they died so their sins weren’t wiped out.

Guillermo Antonio Ricci Alvarez

I'm not complaining about having Dogma now, but we need the entirity of the Askewverse to be watched in order 😁 luckily this movie doesn't have many references to the others but yes

djKENTO

The church is in Pittsburgh, it’s been empty for like 25 years. It gets used a bit for films and TV on the east coast, but honestly there just aren’t enough catholics for the church to stay open.

Vinh Nguyen

I would love to see you guys react to Good Omens.

Young Blood Priest

Affleck starred in several Smith movies before his career took off. According to Kevin Smith, Damon and Affleck wrote Good Will Hunting but couldn’t get it through the studio system. They gave it to Smith who read and loved it. Since Kevin was already signed with Miramax he walked the script in for them and got it to the executives (Weinstein and his brother) and the rest is history. They did Dogma cause they liked the script and as a thank you to Kevin Smith. Again this is according to Kevin Smith via his podcasts.

gobmob2000

You two will have to finally watch Blues Brothers, its another hilarious film with a "Holly Crusade" and good music.

Guillermo Antonio Ricci Alvarez

The body horror movie is called Tusk, and yeah...I don't think Simone can handle it, those scenes are big part of the movie and no person feels comfortable watching it(it could even go into your nightmares)...

Odd Thomas

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is my favourite Smith film, mostly as its set in Hollywood

Young Blood Priest

Kevin Smith wrote and directed a good movie staring John Goodman called Red State. It’s a drama that gets overlooked a lot.

Grand Moff Slackin'

Kevin Smith is from New Jersey which is why most of his movies are set there. He does love Canada tho and would be tickled that you’d think he is Canadian.

Tenn Seven

No George, that's not what Loki "wanted to begin with." He wanted to die after passing through the arch and thus go to heaven. Being killed before going through the arch means he ends up in hell, since he was cast out of heaven.

Odd Thomas

The Happening is brilliant...ly awful, but it's kind of intended to be funny

Tukken

Huge yes to Good Omens!!

akaTheBARON

🖤If you two enjoyed this one, I think you should check out "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" for two reasons. Firstly, it's just funny and if you like Kevin Smith, its one of his funnier films. Couldn't tell you if I think its funnier than Dogma or not, would depend on the week you asked LOL. They both have their charms. But Secondly, they do such a hilarious bit about a movie you two have seen on this channel (Won't say which tho). It's only a 1 or 2-minute scene, but they bring in actors from the movie, it's a whole thing. Very hilarious LOL. But all-around funny. Classic Kevin Smith, just a great cast too. Lots of great cameos. I'm 50/50 on if it would even do well on a poll or not, but I think it has its fans so who knows?

Hyperdryve

Yes!!!! I was just thinking about suggesting this one yesterday! So happy.

Wyatt Nuxoll

To answer your question George , if I remember correctly yes there was a big protest in the religious community to stop this film from being made . Production was halted a handful of times because of the protests and Kevin Smith and his production team had to have meetings upon meetings to discuss the certain matters of the movie .... I believe. They ended up going to court ..... maybe I'm wrong I can't remember but there was definitely protests to prevent this movie from existence and Kevin Smith had to fight tooth and nail to finish this film

Crazykirsch

One of my all-time favorite comedies, up there with the Cornetto trilogy.

Steve Mercier

Love Harrison Ford...he's motherfucking Han Solo, Indiana Jones, and Rick Deckard for fuck's sake...but he runs so fucking weird...

Peter Register

Please do watch Clerks and start your view askew journey at the right spot. :)

Lyle Morgan

Despite the protests and just anecdotally, I know several pastors and church leaders who like this movie. It tackles big theological questions and makes several great points in ways that other movies don't. I know many, many clergy people who especially love the dialogue between Damon and Affleck in the parking garage.

Monica Alarcon

What's the actor with the weirdest run? well... mmm, There's this movie called Android Night Punch...

Dan Burke

Definitely watch the whole view askew universe starting with clerks, it will show the arc of Kevin Smith films including the funny serious side you got pieces of in this, start with clerks and go through the works. Some of the lesser known ones like mall rats and clerks set up the characters Jay and Silent Bob. So if you want maybe check it out, I'll watch

Peter Register

Also, on youtube search for "kevin smith protests dogma". Its an old news clip from when the movie was opening. Kevin showed up at a protest and carried a sign and joined the protest. Got interviewed by the local news station. This is the news story.

Brant

Google “Steven Seagal running”

FranciscoGios

Glad you guys we’re having fun with this one, definitely one my favorite “end of the world” movie. And I don’t recall a lot of people protested about this movie, but you have to remember two years later in 2001 when the two World Trade Centers were attacked and all the gossip went on that.

Gary Fixler

Simone - the cheese hats at the airport was because they were in Wisconsin, "America's Dairyland." People from Wisconsin (and Green Bay Packer (American football) fans) are often called "cheeseheads," and you can see tons of fans at Packers games wearing cheese hats. I think they sell them at the stadium(s?), too. Just do a Google Image search for cheeseheads, and you'll see them.

Krush Groove was the Run DMC movie.

Chase Schleich

Dude you have no idea how much people protested this movie. There's a news interview with a protester from a group outside the theater at the premier. That protester was Kevin Smith. He went and pretended to be one of the group and they didn't notice him. Fucking hilarious. Here's a link to the news report https://youtu.be/DWmlFDYjVV4

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Religion and politics. The two things they say you should never bring up unless you're looking for an argument, movies are apparently a close third. But God I love this movie. Yeah Metatron (I love that it autocorrected to Megatron) is a real thing, according to certain texts. I was raised religious and grew up around loud Catholics and louder Evangelicals aka "Born Agains" (I love that it autocorrected to Against), and then, just to be a dick, I started researching Judeo-Christian history and lore, the more you learn the less you know lol. It's fascinating stuff though, but to me it's fascinating in the way Greek mythology is to George. I could talk about this movies and the philosophy etc for days, but all I really want to say is, you guys gotta watch the rest of the View Askewniverse, I even love their show Comic Book Men, that reality show was such nerd fun; and Brian Anderson was in this, he played one of the protesters in the beginning, he's one of Kevin Smith's hometown friends and also the inspiration for a certain character in Clerks.

Dor

All of Kevin Smith's movies take place in the same universe, and often characters from one movie will cross over into another. Jay and Silent Bob are in almost all of them, but usually as side characters, not the main event. Other than the movie 'Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back', which is specifically about them, Dogma might be the KS film where they get the most screen time. If you're interested in watching more Kevin Smith films (and you should be!) , the place to start is Clerks, his first indie film. His first five movies in order are: - Clerks - Mallrats - Chasing Amy - Dogma - Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back Clerks and Chasing Amy are both good films, and definitely worth watching even if you aren't a 'Kevin Smith fan' specifically - especially Chasing Amy, IMO. Mallrats is a fairly silly comedy. Where the others (Clerks, Chasing Amy, Dogma) have something interesting to say that recommends them as films, Mallrats is just jokes (and not amazing ones). It's pretty skippable unless you just love Kevin Smith. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is total fanservice and gives those two characters the spotlight for the first time. Like Mallrats it isn't terribly deep, but the jokes are better. If you make it through Clerks and Chasing Amy and aren't over the whole Kevin Smith thing, it's worth seeing. There are a ton of great cameos.

Harold Wright

Good Omens was great. If you're interested it is worth watching IMO. I'd be glad to watch that again alongside you guys

Logan Kerlee

I super enjoyed watching this with you both on here! It was so much fun. Like the comment above said, all of Kevin Smith's movies are in the same universe, The View Askewniverse is what it's called. I hope that you both are up for watching them all in order. There are others beyond those as well, but those first five will take some time to get through. You both rock! :) Looking forward to more reactions. :)

beefjerkywizard

Kevin Smith briefly attended the Vancouver Film School where he met Scott Mosier (who had duel citizenship). So Kevin has strong ties to Canada. I recommend watching Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. I would add Jersey Girl into that mix, although it had poor reviews it is George Carlin's biggest role in a Kevin Smith film. Also Affleck and Damon are in this film and other Kevin Smith movies because he gave them roles before they hit it big. Mosier and Smith were executive producers on Good Will Hunting.

wroot

Good Omens book is indeed great. Have read it so so long ago. I might need to reread it actually :)

Ginger

If you're getting into more Kevin Smith movies, you might want to do yourself a favor and skip Mallrats, because... oof! It's just awful. Literally the worst movie I've ever seen and the only DVD I ever threw into the trash afterwards. And I like his other movies, especially Dogma. ^^

Pk

Good Omens: The book is killer, been meaning to watch the show myself, would be happy to do that along with you guys...

MoulinNoir

GOOD OMENS IS QUITE GOOD i'm just sayin

dmoock

Yes! Watch Good Omens

JayF

This one just seemed like a mess to me. Clerks was much better IMO.

Connor Macarty

Ok I’m new here, do all Patreon reactions look like this and the Dune? Dune I couldn’t see or hear a thing they were watching

silverarrow06

These are watch-along reactions, you have to play your own copy with theirs to get the reaction and the movie. 🙂

Ph4ZeD

Yes they are all like this, because otherwise they would be pirating the film!

Generators

or download it from a torrent site. or stream it for free on yesmovies.mn. in anycase, yeah Michael is right, they cant show the movie or its illegal distribution.

Connor Macarty

I got it all sorted out, watchin True detective w them rn, thanks for the help everyone!!!

Simon Clifton

Apart from episode one which was a little... off to me, I concur! As long as they stay the hell away from The Watch.

Philipp Noller

In an interview Kevin Smith said, that people who say that this movie is anti religion don't get the movie. It's against the system "church"

Squ33ky

F Prudetube

Squ33ky

more Kevin Smith Please

redddfer44

I tried watching Smith's earlier movies prior to this. Mallrats -- I just couldn't. The acting choices in that movie are just a no-no-no-no-no for me.

redddfer44

Judging by your reaction reaction to Jay, I think you guys would enjoy Clerks much more than I did. Plenty of wheezing George potential. More "and" movies: Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid; Mr. and Mr. Smith; Batman and Robin.

Young Blood Priest

No offense but Batman & Robin seems more like cinegringe. Butch Cassidy and the Smith’s are great choices tho.

redddfer44

None taken: Batman & Robin is horrendous :D And George has already watched it for the original Cinecringe. But as long as we're talking his idea of a crossover film that features every character from movies named "X and Y", Joel Schumacher's vision of the dynamic duo would certainly make it even more of a mess :D

jmundt33a

Inducting Simone into the Cinecringe of Batman and Robin would be fun. Would give me a chance to call out the self-serving horse dung Joel Schumacher peddled about how the incompetence of the film was intentional, even measured.

Ron K

I'm sure someone else has said it. But if you keep doing Kevin Smith movies, including Red State, watch the Q&A's he does starting with An Evening with Kevin Smith. Tells a lot of hilarious stories about making his movies. Explains a lot of inside jokes that made it into his movies like "I didn't cum on you, Pete."

Ron K

And Steven Segal is the worst runner in movies.

Philipp Roensch

YES you should watch Good Omens. Neil Gaiman is the producer also because it was a thing he promised to Terry. As for "Jay and Silent Bob Movies", in both Clerks 1+2 and Mallrats they are side characters, but Clerks one is just so good on it's own as an introduction, also full of references and explaining the Jersey locality (many people where cast here). Jay and Silent Boy Strike Back is a classic spoof movie and the Reboot is a solid reunion much later.

Tanx

not only should you both watch all the other Kevin Smith movies...in order of release, but An Evening with Kevin Smith should be thrown in there too. i mean it's not a movie. but so many fun stories about making movies and stuff.

simon brouillard

It would be fun if you did Clerks then Mallrats then Chassing Amy and finally Jay and Silent Bob strikes back. Stop there, the rest of Smiths movies aren’t great. Dogma would have gone after chassing Amy

DM DC

When you do get to Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back, there is a post credit scene.

Amelie W

I saw a video with a couple of ordained monks reacting to the movie, if you really crave to know exactly what it gets wrong about God and Catholicism and why you should feel bad because you don't love God like He told you. I think the comic Strong Female Protagonist had the right idea: "There's no such thing as a good idea forever." Get used to having to change what you believe as you learn new information and then you may learn to be at home in our changing, growing world.

KatMakes

Just requesting the uncovered for this one since this film is no longer available to purchase or rent because of punk ass Weinstein. If not no biggie I know you'll get to it at some point. <3

Denashi

It is out of his disgusting paws now and Kevin Smith is re-releasing it!
