OMG! I've been waiting for this reaction! Can't wait to watch you enjoy this masterpiece

Joe Mallard

Hell yes, finally getting back into one of the greatest stories ever told!

Young Blood Priest

VHS was late 70s but they were called Betamax. The machines were expensive as hell.

Theoshin

I am so Happy today

Duncan

Very pleased to see this drop, will enjoy it later tonight,I don't think either of them particularly enjoyed the original, but I believe the much more modern looking Rocky 3 and Rock 4 will be more to their tastes Also a massive congratulations on George's dad's, Saving Private Ryan reaction success, just over half a million views on Youtube now and the most watched video on the channels history 🎉🎉

Young Blood Priest

I’m pretty sure the fight scene were choreographed by a Hollywood stuntman cause the actual boxing scenes in all of the rocky movies are trash. Hands held down and rocky staggering all over the ring…the ref would have stopped the fight.

Theoshin

In context of seeming these movies many times I understand the dislike of Paulie. He is an A hole most of the time, but I look at him the most importantly thing is he is a true friend and family, that that is above all else what matters to Rocky. I also always thought of him as bipolar, or a major alcoholic. I think throughout the movies he does have some moments. For instance i think him talking to Adrian in the pet shop is part of the reason she changed her mind. He was trying to point out Rocky needs her support or he could get really hurt. Also I know you took offense to Him saying I can't watch this no more. I feel in that scene they are showing Paulie knowing himself a little. I think he thought he he stay he could do or say something stupid that would make it worst. I think that's reinforced when he shows up later and sees Rocky still with her and leaves. And they hinted at he was looking after the Kid during that time. But yeah hes an a whole

Theoshin

Te fight Scene might be Hollywood, but Stallone still puts his all into to them, IF i am not mistaken in movie 4 he told they actor to punch him for real and it sent Him to the hospital

JoshG

I believe eye of the tiger was made for rocky 3. It’s used in rocky 3 & 4. Also Rocky 4 is my favorite, so hopefully you keep doing these! The Creed movies are also great!

Paul G

Rocky III is still pretty solid. The studio started to wrestle some control away from Stallone after that one and IV & V get a little ridiculous as a result, particularly V. The sixth film, called Rocky Balboa, is a solid return to form and really saved the franchise. I think you need to watch all six movies to fully appreciate it. The Creed spin-off series is also really good, especially the first one.

Odd Thomas

Cinderella Man is the boxing movie you need

Jimmie V

Most reactors agree that Rocky V gets a bad rap and several agree with me AND Sylvester Stallone that Rocky IV is actually the dud in the bunch. He literally re-edited it and has a whole feature of him doing so where he talks about all the compromises within. It's basically a rehash condensed down to 90 minutes during the era of the 80s where they were turning films into fast food to make more ticket sales and there are literally like 5 music videos in the film where the songs are played to their entirety (it's been estimated that 31.9% of it is montage where these songs play). I guess what I'm saying is, if you make to Rocky 4 and you like it, definitely give 5 a chance.

Brandon Scott

We should all just not answer any of their questions about the future Rocky movies and instead answer by quoting their question and then responding with: "The sooner you watch them the sooner you'll find out!" .... what do ya'll think? 😝

Brian Harris

The original Rocky is the best movie of the series, but Rocky II is very close, and Rocky III is the most sheerly entertaining. Rocky IV and V both kind of suck, but unfortunately they are both absolutely essential watches in order to understand the backstory of Creed, which really brings the Rocky story to a satisfactory continuation/conclusion.

droodly

I would like to request a bonus video of Simone and George trying the things from the training montage, including chicken chasing.

Mike Adams

Please do 3 sooner than later. It's my fave :)

Martin Nicholls

I don't like 4 and 5 but more from a rewatch perspective, everybody should watch them at least once - plus there's important lore you're gonna need (probably less so in 5, though it's the reason behind why certain things happen later). Some people actually think 4 is the best but honestly it makes me die inside a little bit on rewatch, but that's me - it's still a good, classic, movie though. Paulie means well he's just a terrible communicator, and it's not like he's wrong when he's telling Adrian that Rocky is going to get hurt because of her: he would have, it's just time/place/execution that's the issue. Always makes me laugh, the end of the fight is a bit BS - Apollo is a knock down, Rocky loses his balance - it's been ages since Apollo punched him so he wouldn't have been counted, Rocky can just lay on the floor but there you go questionable rule understanding - then again that fight would be stopped in almost every round anyways, if for no other reason than the most important rule in boxing is "protect yourself at all times" - it's a rule you *do not break*. Also yes, to quote another boxing movie "stopping punches with your face isn't a defence" - but Creed is punching all his strength and he's a large mass you expend *massive* amounts of energy doing that and eventually tire very quickly; that's true in modern boxing, over 15 rounds seems like a nightmare - if you *could* take those punches it'd be an amazing tactic, it's just that it's insane, but it's also true that some guys could take a truck to the face and stay standing. Heights and weights no height limit, if you're off height then you lose, the end, that's life in the big city and whatnot, weights yep classes and some day if you keep watching this IP you're going to hear the term 'pound for pound' which relates to rankings sans weight classes; if you're not tall enough to compete in the heavyweight class lose some weight and compete at lower classes. Modern boxing heavyweight if you're not 6' 6" forget it, you have no hope. Also yep I don't think you get away with Rocky not winning in this one, firstly because it sets up things to come and also the point you made, you literally just can't. Also isn't Rambo in prison - I have no idea what you're talking about ;) Also there's 5 Rocky Movies, Rocky Balboa and three+ Creed movies; and I've recently changed my mind (I still haven't seen 3, soon) on which Creed movie I prefer. Also F the Youtube comments ;)

Max Krause

I think Rocky not blocking all those punches was done for two reasons: 1. It was supposed to show us how Rocky could compete with Creed: By tanking all of his punches and dishing out enough damage over all 15 rounds to make it a close match. 2. Even more importantly: To make it entertaining. Because (unless you're a Boxing fan) Boxing is boring. Even today with "only" 12 rounds, a Boxing match is just not that exciting when most punches are blocked. The few defining moments that decide a fight ending in a win by points is when a fighter DIDN'T block a punch. That's not good for cinema. We want to see a condensed version of the fight and we want to see the fighters get hurt so we can suffer with them. So introducing blocking would have left them with two choices: 1. Do it realistically = The climax of the movie is boring to most people. 2. Do it sometimes = Now the audience wonders why they do it sometimes and then have whole rounds of putting their faces into all the punches coming at them with their arms hanging at their sides.

Pre 1970s, cinema was your only option to see a new film, yes, but hits would stay in the theaters far longer than today and then eventually be on TV several years after that. VHS slowly became more accessible in the 80s but initially more for renting - to buy a film on VHS was still pretty expensive, so you were more likely to record it off TV, ads and all. Collecting physical media became more widespread in the early 90s as prices fell; from what I remember personally. I collected hundreds of VHS in the mid-late 90s, which were then replaced by DVD, then blu-ray, then 4k versions!

JayF

For watching movies in those days there was also HBO. It launched in 1972. Edit - I should add that it was at least the late 70s before movies became a regular thing on it and Cinemax which launched a few years later.

Martin

It did terrible on the last poll, but it’s a must-watch movie. Great story that hits you right in the feels.

Martin

To answer a couple of questions George and Simone had: 1. “Eye of the Tiger” was the theme for Rocky III. 2. Boxing has no “height” class. It goes strictly by weight. The boxers have to weigh in at or less than the agreed upon weight before each fight. Most fighters like to stay above that weight until a couple days or hours before the actual weigh-in, and then they simply stop hydrating. This allows the majority of whatever weight they lost for the fight to be water weight, which is very easy to regain once the weigh-in has taken place. It’s not uncommon for a fighter to rehydrate ten pounds from the weigh-in to the night of the fight (one day).

Hakuna

Rock 3 is great, really hope you carry on with it, 4 is good too, after that eh

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Oh wow, I just noticed that the boxer that Rocky is sparring with when he's trying to develop speed is Roberto Duran! Any boxing fans out there? Duran was like an even poorer version of Rocky (not as loveable though), he grew up dirt poor without knowing his father in the slums of Panama, started street fighting as a kid just to have something to eat. He had a hard life that made him very rough around the edges but also hungry as a boxer, fought his way to the top of the Middle Weight class with a brawling style and beat Sugar Ray Leonard in a huge upset in their first of several fights. Mike Tyson has said Duran was his favorite boxer. But he had a lot of demons that he couldn't quite escape, after some success he had a pretty precipitous fall from grace. There's a pretty decent movie about him called "Manos De Piedra" (Hands of Stone, it was his nickname because he hit so hard). I honestly thought the documentary I saw about him was more interesting though.

Tenn Seven

"Eye of the Tiger" was Rocky III, and it is also an excellent movie!

Jared Winn

The first 4 are worth it. The last two are meh.

Brent

Where do I have to donate to get a marathon of all the remaining Rocky and Creed films!!!??? Pretty please :)

Logan Kerlee

I remember really not enjoying this movie as a kid. I'm disappointed in myself for feeling that way! I enjoyed watching this! I liked the first one more, yeah, but this was a good watch. Looking forward to more. :)

Gary Fixler

I just looked up Talia Shire - Adrian - and google claims "She is the sister of director and producer Francis Ford Coppola and academic August Coppola, the aunt of actor Nicolas Cage and director Sofia Coppola, and the niece of composer and conductor Anton Coppola."

Richard

You guys clearly don’t know Rocky he blocks punches with his face lol

Martin

Good eye, Joe. I noticed the same thing yesterday and googled to verify. Hands of Stone himself.

Martin

The ironic thing about Rocky using his face to block punches is that he’s a Philly fighter, and most Philly fighters are known for a defensive technique called the “Shell Defense.” When the fighters are in close range, they stand sideways (instead of straight on), cross their lead arm in front of them with the back arm up for counter punch, and roll their lead shoulder to use as a defense against the attack. If fine correctly, it creates a kind of shell where the opposing fighter is having his blows bounce off your shoulder and lead arm, and there isn’t much space to get a punch into vital areas. Some of the greatest Philly boxers in history have used this method to defend themselves while having the ability to counter punch out of it. Joe Frazier, Pernell Whitaker, Bernard Hopkins, and Floyd Mayweather all used this technique to great effect. Rocky Balboa? Not so much.

An Inanimate Fucking Object

Please, please, please continue to watch through the series! There really aren't any duds (except for Rocky V and maybe Rocky IV, although that one's got a huge following), but it (together with Creed) is truly one of the greatest series ever made

Raven Dark

Just listening to you two talk in your intro before I watch the reaction and had to pause to make a few comments. It got a laugh out of me when Simone jokingly imitated Rocky's voice saying he's going to be an accountant. When he starts looking for a job and was in that one guy's office, it seemed like that was the kind of thing he was trying to do. Not that specifically, but a desk job that's as far from the ring as he could get. Also, "I need more Butkiss in my life." So Simone wants more people to kiss her ass. LOL. Sorry, couldn't help myself. This is my favorite Rocky film. I love them all, but this is the best one for me, so I'm excited to see you react to this one. Diving in...

Raven Dark

There is a short list of characters I consider to be my favorite, and Rocky is right up there near the top. Watching these movies always remind me of why. He's just so damned wonderful, one of these characters you wish was real so he could be your friend. This reaction was worth the wait. Great job, you two. Looking forward to Rocky III.

Jesse Coombs

What a fun reaction! I hope you guys continue with the Rocky series, but I would REALLY love if you would react to "Raging Bull", Scorsese's take on boxing. It's very different, but also similar if you look at the themes and subject matter.

Craig Brennan

I hope they contune this series.

Alex Wong

Hope you guys continue the series. The characters get better as the movies continue and see their growth.

To simplify Health Insurance in the United States, most plans have a deductible (amount you have to pay before insurance kicks in) usually a few thousand dollars and then the insurance covers the rest. Most people have health insurance through their employer, but if you don't there is the health insurance marketplace (Obamacare) you purchase a plan through which can be several hundred dollars per month just to have the insurance. Normally, the higher the monthly premium the lower the deductible. As for Doctor visits, there is normally a copay (like $10 or $20) you have to pay and then your insurance covers the rest. ER visits normally cost $250-$1,000 out of pocket WITH insurance. Those are the basics but of course it can get much more complicated. Hope this helps!
