George don’t cross Simone or this movie will be your life story

Brant

I know it came in third in the last poll, but Fincher’s Girl With the Dragon Tattoo adaptation is really fantastic and worth checking out.

dieselbeast

Friends is amazing, George would laugh lol

NICKWEAKASS

Amazing movie happy you watched it

Logan Kerlee

Friends is a cultural thing for pretty much everybody that was alive in the 90's.

Generators

alive in the western hemisphere* i dont think Friends made it to China, or would have connected with people there in the 90s lol.

Generators

lol i get the joke but it really comes across as you calling Simone a psycho. like saying shes crazy enough to do this.

JayF

I haven't seen this one. It's one of those I'll only watch because you two reacted to it but I remain open to enjoying it. I've thrown it out there before but the Affleck film I would really enjoy a reaction to is The Accountant. It's very underrated.

JayF

Also, Simone, Rachael didn't just say she wanted a break. She said she wanted a break "from us". Ross was totally right to interpret that the way he did. Especially given the fact that Rachael had started spending more and more time with her male boss. Taking a break "from us" under that context could easily be interpreted as "I'm going to start banging this other guy to try him out for a while". Ross could even say he was vindicated when she started dating that boss shortly after they broke up. Just sayin'. /end Friends nerd soapbox

Dragon Tattoo next! If you like Fincher - and it seems you do - I recommend his 2011 version to the original. The original is good but Fincher's is ten times better.

Odd Thomas

Did George just call Friends bs?! CANCELLED! jk ;)

redddfer44

I haven't watched that show since it ended but I love a good geeking out like this.

Odd Thomas

SPOILER for Gone Girl I knew he wasn't a killer because he doted on his cat

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Okay cool, love me some Fincher. Still so bummed they cancelled Mindhunter, was such a cool show. (Chapelle doing Rick James) it was "Cold blooded..."

David Martin

The movie is very close to the book except for the ending.

Logan Kerlee

We do NOT need a Gone Girl 2! This movie was CRAZY! Holy fuck - yikes. I respect that this movie didn't hold the viewer's hand throughout. That's why I enjoyed this movie so much. She was a terrible villain. Not terrible in a way of me not enjoying her - but yeah, damn. FUCK! hahahaha, this is up there for me with Fincher's works. I like Seven more than this but that's prolly because I watched it as a kid and it'll always hold a special DARK place within me. Oh Fight Club will always be one of my top faves as well. lmao - that 1000% fits! I'm keeping my donger to myself, thank you very much! xD

Michael Kang-Beats

I don't think she was necessarily trying to put on weight. Unless I missed her saying that. I think she was just eating what she wanted because she mentions how she "stayed skinny" for him.

Mati D.

This movie fucked me up the first time i saw it.

Travis

Fun to watch and I’m glad neither of you had read the book because the reveals were great. One small nit pick is that George kept alluding to not having a happy ending because “David Fincher” and I just want to emphasize that this was a HUGELY popular mainstream book. Da Vinci Code level popular. Fincher directs it, but I would stray away from assuming his finger prints are all over the storyline whatsoever. Either way I thought he did a good job with it and you can certainly understand why the story appealed to him so you’re not wrong there. Loving watching movies with you guys as always. You are my favorite reactors.

Charlotte Drolet

I think she kept eating because she didn't have to pretend anymore. She was talking about the things women do to attract men. Indicating to me that she only kept herself up for men. At least that's how I interpreted it.

sarCC

I think the best Fincher you haven't watched yet is probably The Game. It's actually similar to this, but much more mysterious and tense. And Michael Douglas is perfectly cast in it. Aside from that, Panic Room and The Social Network are pretty fun.

Charlotte Drolet

What in the Nancy Grace is going on in this movie!?!

PastaDon

Yep, this film gave me a knew found fear and respect for women.. like Steve Carell said in 40 yr old Virgin.. "I respect Women so much now, I completely stay away from them" 😂

JediLounger

As to your questions about the book. There are some minor changes, and it’s been 10 years since I read it, but I think the overall story structure is the same if I recall. I think the main difference is you spend more time with Nick and Amy narrating, and one of the best things the book does is tell the same events from each perspective, and there are differences. Flynn just does it, without calling it out, leaving the reader to realize it as they go along. Both of them tell the story to make themselves look good, so the truth is likely somewhere in the middle. I do remember the waves the book made when it came out. The ultimate plane/beach read it was called.

JayF

I'm not quite 45 minutes in and I've had to take numerous breaks. This movie has been like watching paint dry so far. The sleepy Ben Affleck choice makes it seem like he felt the same way while shooting it. Edit - I finally finished it. I guess I'm just too old to get this new trend in movies where they give you no protagonist that's likeable. If I don't care about any of the characters why should I be invested in the movie?

akaTheBARON

🖤Simone to George "I can't say because I don't know if this comes out after but... he LIVES his ACT, don't you SEE?!?!?!" But yeah, this was a fun watch. And I agree. Ross and Rachal WERE on a break so he didn't cheat, but Ross is still an ass. He waited like what... 3 hours... C'mon man. I get it, people need juice but rash decisions like that make you go from Ross to Russ in a snap LOLLL

Tenn Seven

The thing I never got about "Friends" is why anyone would hang out with someone as whiny and annoying as Ross. Also, I don't even know my own blood type. Does that make me a bad person?

Calum Grace

loved this reaction, and also putting in another word for Fincher's adaptation of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, it's an excellent movie

HalfMayn

You guys should check out Argo. Great Ben affleck flick.

Jesse Coombs

Great reaction. I love this movie. Here's where I recommend something a little more heartfelt counteract this vibe. That would be "The Worst Person in the World". A lovely, striking rom-com that hits really hard.

Gary Fixler

George, the blonde TV reporter you hated was played by Missy Pyle, who you've both seen in at least two other films. She played Laliari, the alien woman/octopus thing that Fred Kwan falls in love with in Galaxy Guest, and Fran Stalinovskovichdavidovitchsky, the woman with the Princess Leia buns and unibrow on Ben Stiller's evil team in Dodgeball. I've loved her ever since those two ridiculous roles.

Robert da Spruce

Rosamund Pike played this role fantastically. So much so, I can never see her quite the same. Regardless of the role she’s playing. Kinda like the way my view of Anthony Hopkins changed after seeing Silence of the Lambs. Great reaction guys! They were on a break! 😂

Jay

Didn't think much of this when I first saw it . But after several more viewings, I think it's one of Fincher's best. Margo is played by Carrie Coon and she's always great. If you want another film about a disturbed individual fucking with an apparent loved one, check out 'We Need to Talk About Kevin'. Great film but REALLY disturbing. Gone Girl is an episode of Friends by comparison:)

Opti_Frog

She's such a great actress. So happy she's playing Moiraine in The Wheel of Time.

Jordan

nice to see you back on the fincher train, feel like a return to wes anderson is also needed, so many bangers to get through there.

Ricardo Alanis

I’m so mad I slept on this movie and only watched it recently. Such a great set or reveals and twists. I also recommend Nightcrawler for characters that are brilliantly acted in how awful they are.

James O'Sullivan

I don't think it's a new trend to not have a likeable protagonist, you can go back hundreds of years and find very famous stories with main characters like that. In this it's still about the characters, how do they handle the situation? And the wanting to know who "wins" is where the investment is. But different films for different people. Personally despite not liking Affleck's character, I can still relate with him. Turning calm and inwards is exactly how I react to shocking bad news, so maybe I'm biased there.

Michael Robayo

Fincher is a master at storytelling and visuals. You guys still have a bunch of Fincher's work you need to watch! Please keep it going!

Robin

This was a really fun one; y'all should consider the other Fincher/Reznor/Ross movies, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo & Social Network. The soundtracks are worth listening to if you liked Gone Girl.

REDR58

The most unbelievable thing about this movie was that the hospital let Amy go home without cleaning up all the blood on her! I mean, I get it was so we could see her wash it off (SYMBOLISM!), but still...

ExtraBigAssTaco

If you guys enjoyed this film, and like Anna Kendrick, you will enjoy A Simple Favor.

Scott G

To answer George's question about Amy's weight gain: she mentioned earlier in the movie that she "stayed a size 2" for Nick. I think she was just eating whatever garbage she wanted for once.

Dustin Duvall

Need to make george watch the We Were On a Break episode!

Amelie W

Idea: Instead of that complicated speech Nick rehearses in front of the mirror at the end he can just tell people "When Amy disappeared, it was because she wanted to frame me for her own murder and get me and probably my sister executed because she was bored with me. Then when she saw me on TV she decided to take me back, so she murdered Desi to frame him for kidnapping her. Never be in a room alone with her." She won't let him go around alone to say this to everyone who knows her individually at the right time and place, but it's almost funnier if he does it in front of her at the dinner where she means for him to tell everybody what a jerk he is. What's she going to do, say that he can't prove anything? Talk about how he's turning them against her so he can keep abusing her? All he wants is to divorce her, he's holding all the cards. If he keeps repeating "please don't leave me alone with her" whenever she wants him alone with no witnesses, they'll have to at least question what he would get out of making this up. Except he seems to buy into Amy's idea where having her threatening to destroy his life and everyone he loves and kill him whenever she likes will push him to be his best self. Maybe the scummiest defense lawyer in the world is right that they're "both" the most messed up people alive.
