Ohhh boy this will be fun :D

JayF

This is giving Simone a break from these after The Ring? lol...hope she has her avocado handy.

PickettsChargingPort

yuck. Have fun, though. I personally can't stand these movies but it may almost be worth watching to see Simone cringe.

JediLounger

Watching Saw at 7AM? Never thought I’d have this experience.

Mark McKeown

So excited for this! I figured youd watched it after making a reference the other day on another reaction

Odd Thomas

James Wan only got better as he went on: The Conjuring, Malignant, Dead Silence, Insidious. Leigh Whannel has also become a good director: Upgrade, The Invisible Man

Odd Thomas

I SAW a couple of the sequels but they really were just about the torture aspect and I quickly bailed. The first film is not as gory as people remember and is much more of a suspense thriller that's all the more creative due to the limited budget.

MacGuffinStuff

Oh bloody hell, is this what the reverse bear trap reference was about? Well, guess I'll find out, I've never actually seen this but I'm a fan of James Wan's other movies so, here we go.

JediLounger

So this movie is pretty brutal, but if George really wants to give Simone nightmares? I Saw the Devil (2010). That movie will destroy you. And I have said it several times, but It Follows (2014). Those two are my favorite from the previous decade. From this decade, so far it's Invisible Man (2020). Edit: I am watching your intro. Jason X is one of the greatest satires ever made. It is VERY aware of what it is, and leans into it so hard unlike anything I had seen up to that point. You guys would have lots of fun watching those for Cinecringe.

Chase Schleich

Dude, are you trying to scare Simone for life? First The Ring and now Saw?! Lol

Martin

Pass. Torture porn doesn’t interest me. This movie was the best of the Saw movies, but not so good that I ever felt the need to rewatch it.

james wells

You learn more about Jigsaw past in later films. But Jigsaw put people who he feels are ungrateful about their life thru a trial of his own design , if you win you get your life ,or you lose you die. The sequels are more about the traps and the lore of Jigsaw. I tap out after the third movie, But they are all interesting watches to be honest

ln_wanderbooks

Yay I'm actually excited for this one, unlike many people here apparently 😅 I watched all of them from 1 to 7 and honestly you can get used to the gore and focus on the story, because despite what people say I think there were a lot of interesting points made in these movies. I understand some can't stomach it, but saying there's no story like I've heard so many times is because people fixated on the gory parts only 😂 The 7th one was meh though (I haven't watched the ones after). Btw this movie didn't bring back gory movies, it just made it more mainstream thanks to the twist that brought more curious viewers, and the first one is soft compared to the following ones. I say keep watching, I don't have any friends to watch horror movies with me anymore and I would be super happy 😁(this or Friday 13th or whatever you haven't watched)!

Generators

lol why do you just assume Simone has no say in the movies they watch, as if she works for George.

Woody G

I love the saw franchise, because they get increrasingly more crazy, wild, gory and soap opera like.Amazing :D

Jay

The Saw series isn't just about torture porn. It's the most hilariously convoluted soap opera, punctuateded by scenes of gruesomeness. It goes through crazy, nonsensical and ridiculous twists and turns and they commit to it 100%. None of this Halloween/Friday the 13th constant retconning and timeline nonsense. I'm not saying they're great and I won't be bothered if G & S don't continue. But I do find them enjoyable and I think dismissing them as nothing but torture porn is just lazy.

Jay

Yes, soap opera! That's the first thing that pops into my mind when I think of the Saw series, not blood and guts although there's plenty of that too:)

sarCC

I remember watching this in the theater and thinking Cary Elwes' acting was so bad in it that the only possible explanation for it was that he was the killer. I'm still perplexed by it; he's usually such a good actor! [Although, now that I think about James Wan's later movies, he is good at making everyone he works with look like they're terrible at acting.]

Travis

Damn ok

Mati D.

He probably used the same opio he used for Amanda's game, they saud that the opio make him unable to move and feel pain, but probably with time it dissappear. So he timed how much he needed to wake up aroud 6. Also, Adam wasn't underwater, the body was on the water, but the head was above the water, in the last scene you can see when he wakes up.

Jay

I love I Saw the Devil and I hate to be that guy, but I would genuinely worry about Simone watching that one:) I think they'd love It Follows and The Invisible Man though.

Mark McKeown

This was so fun. That ending is amazing, the chills whenever the theme starts to play! Really hope you continue with the series

Shane Leslie

As an Aussie, James Wan and Leigh Whannell will always strike that filament of pride. They've gone on to do such great things (UPGRADE IS FKING AWESOME). Rembering the Saw franchise; 1 was great, 2 was really enjoyable, and then I don't remember anything until the Chester Bennington cameo. Legit don't think you need to watch past 2. Later movies actively ruin the first.

Truth

Saw 2 and 3 are must watches. I lost interest from 4 onwards tbh.

OldBeardedGuyReacts

"I know that it's pretty much the goriest movie ever"....PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE watch Terrifier in October.

Greymond

While I don't HATE the other movies, Saw is the only legitimately great film in the franchise and just blows all of the other ones completely out of the water. It's unique among all the others in tone as well. This is definitely not a horror film and I certainly wouldn't classify it as torture porn either. It's an excellent psychological thriller and has what I still think is one of the greatest twist endings of all time. The second movie is entertaining, but it diverges from the first and sets the tone for the rest of them. 3 is definitely where it just becomes torture porn. Story? Eh. It's there but incredibly thin. Each movie keeps trying to re-capture the feeling of the original's amazing twist ending, but fail harder and harder each time. They just become more and more predictable as time goes on. By the time the 7th (Saw 3D) was announced, everyone already knew what the big "twist" was going to be before the movie was even released, as it was just too obvious at that point. Saw 7 should have been Saw 3 and they should have stopped there. EDIT: I also find it hilarious that a lot of die hard fans of the franchise try to justify Jigsaw's actions, like he's got some kind of moral high ground. "Oh, he's never killed anyone, he's just trying to help the lost and punish the morally corrupt. He gives everyone a fair chance to survive." Completely ignoring the fact that in the very first movie he was perfectly fine forcing someone else to murder an innocent mother and child. He's an interesting villain sure, but he's no saint. John's a bad dude. Period. The end.

Logan Kerlee

I'm really going to enjoy watching this one with you both! xD hahaha, this one's DARK! I had a great time watching this when I was younger.. obviously grosed me out! xD lmao, the scares will be intense! I don't remember if I've ever watched the unrated edition of this or not. lol, the toilet bit is NOTHING. Ya'll have a lot worse incoming. xD Really enjoying how Simone's reacting to all this. The terror on her face is legit. George on the other hand is more confused/grossed the hell out. Both takes are similar to how I was. lol, "He's a part of the creed!" That was great, even better after Simone asked what creed was! lol, this movie for sure spawned some escape rooms! lmao, that bit about the vegan fememist punk made me chuckle. lol! That "Seven days.." bit was nice, George! Obviously not for Simone but I got a chuckle out of it. :) That's a lot of hookers, yeesh! 15, wow. The final twist is going to throw you both for a loop! xD lol, don't worry - EVERYONE that watched this experienced the same confusion. Nobody understood everything after their first watch. You just figured that George? That the same villain will be a part of the series as it continues on. Well I'm glad you got it before the end. I remember thinking long and hard about everything in this movie after it came out. Freaked me out big time but I dug deep and watched everything closely. I'm for sure looking forward to more of these watchalongs. They'll all be gross and nasty but it'll be a trip seeing you both experience your first watch of them all. These movies are a disgusting mess but are a good watch if you're down to be grossed out. The first is my favorite though.

dieselbeast

Definitely continue the saw franchise, they keep you thinking and guessing, I was about 14 yrs old when I first saw this I left the theatre traumatized hearing the dude scream while the credits played lol

Monica Alarcon

Geez, the intro was way longer than usual... wich is AWESOME!, it's usually my favorite part

NICKWEAKASS

Love the reaction really hope you react to the second one

PIG

YES!

Max Krause

I only saw the first two Saw movies and the first one is definitely the high point of the series from what I read. However, I did like the variation of the traps in the second one. It's absolutely more torture porn than the first one, though it wasn't terrible.

Hakuna

Saw 2 and 3 are definitely worth watching, hope you continue!

Jay

Glad yous enjoyed it. To answer Simone's question, Dr. Gordon isn't in the 2nd one (you do get an explanation for Jigsaw being able to lie still for hours though). I'd say 1, 2 and 6 are the best, but I do enjoy the nonsense in 3 through 5. I thought 3D was bloody awful and I liked Jigsaw. Still haven't seen Spiral. You see a lot more of Jigsaw in later entries and Tobin Bell is great, even if Jigsaw is full of shit. The twist at the end of this is just the start, I've already said it in this thread, but this series really is insane. They never top that one but twists and turns aplenty is one of the signatures of the Saw movies. They all follow a similar pattern, a cop plot and trap plot playing out alongside each other. But they definitely get more gruesome (watching this one again, it really is only 5-10 seconds you actually have to look away), but they also get more ridiculous and laughable. I'd say if yous like the 2nd one, keep going but if you're not feeling it as much, the rest will likely be diminishing returns.

Robert Brown

I would actually say Saw 2 is one of the worst and 3,4 and 5 are really good.

Robert Brown

The others are just more of the same but I haven’t seen from spiral onwards.

Raven as a spoiled rich kid in WCW is cannon Johnny. Deal with it.

I'm so happy to watch them react to this movie. I get why people don't like what the series became, I don't mind, but the first movie is sooo good no matter how many times I watch it and it's mostly for the twist ending. The twist, the music played over the reveal, and the "Game Over!" ending along with the screams gives me chills every time. Nothing beats watching people react to this for the first time

Ricardo Alanis

This movie was such a surprise for me. Just watched it randomly expecting nothing special and the reveal is excellent. I think Saw 1-3 is a great trilogy. Kind of goes off the rails a bit after that but at least the first two sequels tie in really well.

DM DC

If you want some answers to your questions then I would continue the series. However I will be honest, it gets messy. You may want to pace yourselves. This is one of my favorite franchies in horror. All of them are pretty good.

Tyler Foster

I would say this might've been saying more than you should have in that first paragraph. They ended up not looking up the cast of 2...just my two cents though.

My_Cousin_Mose

When the first Saw came out it felt like I had never seen a movie like it before. And it holds up to this day. Great movie, great reaction. Honestly this is the only one worth watching. The next 2 are ok but it really is just torture porn after the first. I wont say anything to spoil anything other than I REALLY don't like the way the story goes after a while. I think they were just trying way too hard to get 10 movies out of this all and I guess it worked. They made money.

Chase Schleich

He didn't move the whole time because he drugged himself. Remember when Danny Glover and his partner found the one victim under the blanket (the scene where Jigsaw kicked their asses). Jigsaw was testing different sedatives on that victim. He mentioned the victim being awake too early so he needs to find a different mixture. He was looking for a sedative that would knock himself out on the floor for the right amount of time and it needed to be precise.

djKENTO

hey shout out to my homie Leigh Whannell!

Opti_Frog

This one and F&F7 are the only James Wan movies i can stand. And both are just scraping by as ok. Saw has a killer twist and a great ending, but the MTV editing and stylistic choices are annoying as hell. The sequels are a (much too) long line of diminishing returns.

Opti_Frog

Saw and Terrifier can't hold a candle to Braindead / Dead Alive for amount of gore. The difference is that Braindead is cheerful splatstick comedy gore and Terrifier is sadistic gore.

UNC

Great reaction! Thank you!

Jon

So this is a weird one for me. When I first saw this I thought it was pretty good until the cops were chasing the guy through the hallway and from the way it was shot I could tell it wasn't the person they had been building up as the killer and that kind of ruined the whole "Twist" for me. Strangely enough I actually prefer the second one to the first.

Middy

I watched the entire franchise just a few months ago. The thing that really stood out was movies 1-3 being near identical in terms of style and quality. The storytelling takes a step down after that and the cinematography changes noticeably for the worse, but if you enjoy 4 you'll probably enjoy 5, 6 and 3D because those are more or less on par with each other.

Noe Ramirez

I love this movie so much and the next three. It gets sillier and crazier after that but I enjoy the rest as like guilty pleasures. Lol I'm excited for this new one, Im curious which way it's gonna go but hopefully it's good. You guys should check out other films from James Wan and Leigh Whannell. James Wan with his horror films like The Conjuring and Insidious movies and Leigh Whannell with his awesome movie Upgrade and The Invisible Man. Love how these dudes made these massive careers out of this one movie that cost like 5 bucks to make. It's amazing and inspiring to say the least.

Noe Ramirez

I love the second one. Some parts of that movie make me so uncomfortable to think about though just because of how gnarly it is.

redddfer44

I've been meaning to say this earlier, but those curls look really good on you, Simone! I've avoided this movie and now watched it beforehand (I can't watch most movies for the first time with anybody talking). It was better than I expected, but not exactly something I want to revisit.

redddfer44

Also, George, what do you mean, "ironic deaths?" Wouldn't it have been ironic if they'd had a ten thousand spoons (when they all needed was a saw) or a guy afraid of planes who died in a plane crash on his first flight ever? (Yes, I'm kidding.) Final Destination also has two installments in 3D. You already know everyone hates the fourth one, but 3D doesn't ruin the fifth one. Could you do them as a double-feature reaction so that you wouldn't have to sacrifice a weekly reaction slot for a bad movie? Together, they're not much longer than The Godfather Part II :p

Charlotte Drolet

Simone's dream!?! WTF!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Dang!

Tenn Seven

Supposedly the first escape room was in 2007 (in Kyoto, Japan). Definitely a possibility that this movie was was an inspiration.

Acexige

I totally agree. I'm not even a huge fan of gore per say but i'll always stand up for the saw franchise because if you look past the brutality of the 'saw traps' there is more interesting characters and story than a lot of horror films/franchises.

MJH

I am late to this party, but an answer to Simone's question in the intro about whether there were any other series like Saw, where there are a bunch of movies and it has just kept going, would be The Fast and Furious series. Started around the same time, in 2001, kept fairly steady releases, and just released the 10th film this year. The 11th if you want to count the spinoff Hobbs and Shaw. It may or may not be considered to fall under the definition of horror, depending on how much the person you are talking to hates the series.

iOmegaTron

Simone getting scared has got to be the most hilarious thing ever! I die of laughter every time. XD

Jester

The franchise is all downhill after the first. It just becomes about the novelty of the traps. Not worth continuing IMO.

Jonah Bertorelli

I feel like this is spoken from someone who didn't watch it for the story or don't remember the story and only watched it for the gruesome traps. I feel like it doesn't go downhill until around 4-5 area. The story remains good and connected for the first few. and after that is definitely a cash grab and attempts and just being creative with more ways to torture people under the Saw IP. But definitely worth the watch either way. for them to make up their own mind on it.

REDR58

Just catching up with this one, but I’m assuming your guys haven’t seen 3D movies presented in (real) IMAX or 4DX? 3D movies (not hokey Jaws 3D-type movies, unless that’s all you are referring to) can be very good. Anyway, great reaction. This movie was a lot less gory than I expected, more psychological than grisly. If James Wan never does the frantic smash cuts again it will be too soon. That’s just annoying.

Casey Dixon

To get the full story and answers to all your questions you have to watch the 3D one unfortunately.

Henry Sanchez

How the f have you guys not watched 2 yet lol! Let alone the rest after. You guys loved this ! For reference. There’s a 50/50 split of 4-7 if they’re the torture porn that people claim but everyone who actually gives these movies a chance 1-3 are amazing. And 10 is FANTASTIC. This is my favorite film franchise so I’m more lenient on them all but I promise you for a series all 10 are worth a reaction. Check the numbers of channels that have done them all. They are worth it.

Daniasaurus

Just joined and was going to comment that! Saw 2 is my favorite of the series. 1 to 3 is awesome and while I think the series goes off the rails after 4 I still think I enjoy the soap opera of it all. Lol (5 is the worst one IMO with it just being dull.) Saw 6 is great though and Saw X is amazing. They need to continue. lol
