Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Probably the most heartbreaking ending of any Stephen King adaptation. Possibly any horror movie period. You guys should check out Cobweb. I just watched it two nights ago and oh man it's so good! Great reaction as always :)

j c

I love the ending to this. For once it's not similar to the same ending almost every other movie has

Emptysea93

Ughhh this movie had so much potential. But to me the ending is such a cop out for shock value, it completely betrays the entire point of the story. Having read the book, the ending makes me even madder, because the book ending is simultaneously so much more horrifying and hopeful at the same time.

james wells

The ending was shock ending, but I like the book ending better and one they should keep because it would have open up more for sequel. This ending shut down the story. So much protenial for sequel exploring this new world

michael clarke

the short story kind of has no ending. they just keep driving and realize the fog goes on. if the movie had done that, it would have ended just before they decided on unaliving. back when this came out, i was really young and cynical, so i wanted movies without happy endings, but this just seemed exploitative, basic and uncreative.

Teyon Alexander

Yeah it was a good movie. The TV show sadly didn’t get beyond season one but it too was pretty good - just nobody watched it.

Hamesque

If you really want to be mad, think about how the people left at the supermarket are probably going to be saved and get out fine.

Jeff K

I genuinely didn't even realize there WAS a TV show until you just said that.

Gaius Frakking Baltar

Thomas Jane can't catch a break - first he has to deal with mist aliens, then the alien protomolecule! Btw, Red Letter Media has a good retrospective on The Mist; it turns out that Frank Darabont wanted to shoot the movie in black & white to invoke the tone of a 1950's monster movie, but the studio refused: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1asq06rh2qo In 2019 the B&W version was included in a two-disc DVD set. I haven't seen it, but apparently the film is a lot creepier in black & white. And Lionsgate is going to release a 4K Blu-ray steelbook edition on Oct. 4th, which also includes the B&W version.

Jeff K

As others have mentioned, the end of the film is a departure from the way King originally wrote it. It's a fairly hopeful ending in the story, but while King sometimes (famously) hates some of the changes people make in his adaptations (see: Kubrick, Stanley), he LOVED Darabont's ending and was mad at himself for not thinking of it in the first place.

Da Big Appa

I have an honest question for the crew here, not trying to be a troll just interested in the responses. For the people who voted for The Mist did you vote for it because you thought George and Simone would enjoy it or did you vote for it because you wanted to see their reaction to it?

Jinyatta

If you want more King, I recommend the 1994 miniseries of his book, "The Stand". It's about a pandemic that kills 99% of the world's population and got a surge in popularity over the last couple of years for obvious reasons.

Jason McCloud

The ending is so gut wrenching. Great reaction, you two.

Andrew Hussey

More just to see their reaction, I don't know anyone really "likes" the movie, like I appreciate it and was well done and so on but I don't know anyone who "likes" the way they feel after watching it...it's like the movie Martyrs, not the American remake but the original or Aniara, you come out of it just completely crushed and feeling awful but I think that's exactly what the creators of those movies were going for...they're great movies, spectacular acting, have some incredible artistic or political or social statements to make, but I don't come out of them feeling good by any stretch. It's horror, about as horror as you can get right through to and including the end...no one said great art had to be hopeful lol

Richard

It's one ending you won't forget quickly.

Jeff K

You just reminded me I never finished the new miniseries they did with James Marsden and Alexander Skarsgard. Of course… it was just not very good despite a great cast.

Niklas Ericsson

I feel like "screw the audience" endings have become a lot more common in the last decade, sadly.

Rachel W

When I saw this, I didn't care who lived, I just wanted the religious nut to die. lol

sol stapleton

Stephen king actually preferred this ending than his

Steve Bennett

I remember watching this with my Dad when it came out. As soon as the mist cleared we looked at each other and started laughing hysterically. “Stephen King…you sick bastard!” my Dad said.

Happy Hanukkah

Lemme fix that for ya: ( :-) ) I feel like "screw the audience" movies have become a lot more common in the last decade, sadly.

JP

Simones Reaction said it all. I only saw the end of the movie on tv and holy crapy did it mess with me!

Joh

Great reaction as always, sorry you had to watch that movie tho, like fr.

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

In the opening sequence the painting was referencing Roland of Gilead (The Gunslinger), the main character in Stephen King's epic The Dark Tower 7 book series (plus other attached stories)...The Dark Tower weaves through many (probably most) of Stephen King's works. There was a very bad movie which tried to shove too many things in at one time...NEVER watch. Mike Flanagan is currently working on a TV show (and he is a big fan of King and has done justice to other King works such as Gerald's Game) and I have high hopes for it that they will do it properly. It is an epic that really does need many seasons of a TV show (such as GOT, although since all the works are complete less likely to be butchered in the end). The last I read, would be a TV show (many seasons) with some accompanying films. It is what the epic story deserves and I hope Flanagan gets it right. Such a great series of Books and indeed threads through all of his novels

Jim Howe

I know I've recommended this before.. but I'd LOVE to see a reaction to 'Road to Perdition'. A (sort of) Gangster film set in the 1920-30's Directed by Sam Mendes and starring Tom Hanks, Daniel Craig, Jude Law and a smathering of other top actors.

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

I'd like to request Pee Wee's Big Adventure again with the recent passing of Paul Reuben...I think it would be great to see a reaction to this soon in honor of him

Deano

That ending is insane

Saliv-88

It’s one of the most horrifying endings ever to me because as characters, they tried their best to make the smart decisions, and it worked for them… until it didn’t, because the world itself doesn’t operate by our understanding of reason.

BubblyRainbows

I may be in the minority, but I like that the good guys lose in this movie. I enjoy the occasional tragic ending. I have my gripes about the end of this movie, but the good guys losing is not one of them.

ExquisiteCapybara

The group around David see themselves, that the monsters can be beaten with guns and sticks so sticking it out in a save place until men with bigger sticks arrive would have been the actual smart move. love the ending, its tragic but makes sense. (similar to Shaun of the Dead really...)

Echo

I saw this in the theater when my first child was a toddler. I cried for like half an hour. Traumatic.

Travis H

This is one of those really good (possibly great?) movies that I can’t stand! My least favorite things in movies are asshole characters (usually men) that refuse to listen to anything outside of their little world view, religious nut jobs (or overly religious people in general), and I am not a horror fan. This movie is my nightmare and then you throw in one of the biggest bummer endings ever!

Brandon Meng

That reaction was everything I wanted it to be

Jeb Manning

So you guys have to do John Caprenter's The Fog now right? it's another great one about monsters in a fog killing people

djKENTO

any time a react channel gets this movie picked in a poll it’s gonna feel like a giant prank from their fans. “SUFFER WITH US! FEEL WHAT WE FELT!”

David Nesbit

Stephen King in interviews about this movie said he wished he would have used this ending.

David Nesbit

Frank Darabont was also the executive producer and was involved with the first two seasons of the Walking Dead

Mattheu Dean

I literally could not stop smiling the entire video just know what was coming.

Robert Cooper

I adore this movie. Everything about it. The "50s Creature Feature" aesthetic. The Rod Serling-esque characters. A cast of great character actors. The gut punch at the end. EVERYTHING.

Opti_Frog

The Fog remains one of my favourite spooky movies of all time. No bs, just a great ghost story. ❤

romeo-a-go-goat

I love this movie so much precisely because its so dark and so tragic. The poster in the opening sequence is nod to Stephen King's Dark Tower series, which is a Western/Sci-Fi/Horror/Fantasy series, that links pretty much of all of King's work into one giant multi-verse. I think George in particular would really enjoy it.

warcrimes

this is basically an old school Twilight Zone episode on steroids. Great flick.

Richard Flores

I would like to add to your point. There was another "NEVER watch" movie. I watched it because I expected it to allude to its Dark Tower novella roots, but it never did. I mean, that novella had so much setup invested in a certain character and a certain concept. And both of those mean so much in a very specific Dark Tower book. And all of that is gone from the movie. They didn't shove too many things into this, they took all of it away, and made the movie less because of it. Us Constant Readers who were DT fans, we knew there would sometimes be droughts between novels. There would even be droughts between mentions in other non-DT stories. This one felt around 6 years between mentions, and yet here we Constant Readers find ourselves, we are rewarded for patience, and we finally actually got rose petals. Real, in the hand, rose petals. And that movie (shame on you, movie, novella is better) took that from us. Yes, Choi, they have been doing movies wrong. And yes, Choi, I really hope and believe that Flanagan can get it right and make this as great as it should be.

warcrimes

I call this a throwback Twilight Zone on steroids. Somewhere, Rod Sterling smiles...

Rob Church

I've been waiting for this one. Great reaction, so satisfying.

redddfer44

I know how this movie ends. I will never watch it :D

Happy Hanukkah

I appreciated Glory. I detested Life (2017).

Jobbe Smit

Fuck you back George, it was my pleasure to vote for this one.

Milsr09

An unexpected delight. I love this movie and what it does

Luis Torrefranca

I know I just commented this over on YouTube, but the Clint Eastwood looking painting was a reference to “The Dark Tower” series. A proper series adaptation is being worked on and I’ll vote on that every single time. All things serve the beam. hashtag thinny
