Such a rough movie but all I can do is assure you this franchise now just gets better and better and is consistently excellent. Next one has a brilliant villain.

Mark McKeown

Yeah definitely the weakest of all the series

james wells

The reason it was weaker because studio wanted less complicated plot and more action, it did not gel with what fans want from franchises

Kangdarius

When I was younger I thought this was awesome. It’s laughable now lol but thandie looks so goooood

Jeff K

Yep. If I recall, the modern day M:I movies in particular have gotten so good thanks largely to Jason Bourne and Casino Royale. I believe I read that Cruise saw those and realize that his own franchise needed to seriously up its game because they were about to get left in the dust.

While this is my least favorite installment of the series, it’s still a John Woo film and a Mission Impossible film. It just oozes style and panache. I just think there are story problems and pacing problems that the director’s flair for visual grace can’t cover up.

I used to hate this film. But I grew a fondness for it because of its uniqueness. The cheesiness got better with age since now I can see it as a product of its age.

I love this movie so much ! It's corny and over the top but it's sooo fun ! To me the weakest MI by far is the third one. The filming and editing just feels like a TV show. And it's bleak as hell. It's not a very bad film but just not that fun. The best one to me is the fourth one 🙂 Sadly they stopped changing directors from the fifth and on and to me, even though they're pretty nice, they all feel the same. I also think they lose the MI feel and are just a way for Tom Cruise to show off. Anyway I hope you guys watch all of them. They're all worth it 😁 Edit: just finished the video and I'm so happy you guys enjoyed it so much 😄 In my opinion it's in no way the worst of the franchise. The fact they're all so different every time is great!

Christopher Feiertag

I love how George butchered my last name. Maybe the English translation is easier for you. It would be „Christopher Holiday“. 😊 Best regards from Germany!

redddfer44

Wait WHAT. I've never seen anyone who thinks of these films the same way I do. Now I have!

Hard Target is great

Doug Shore

I think thumbnail George could use a boob lift

Pam Nail

This might be the weakest of the series, but it's not that bad IMO. And I find it fascinating to watch how this franchise has evolved. Also, this movie has a very similar plot to Hitchcock's NOTORIOUS.

Sheens

Please tell me you'll finish this series because they get infinitely better after this low point

Darien Sills-Evans

Most agree this is the absolute worst of the franchise. It's such an odd 90s/early 2000s artifact, even for a John Woo movie. After this films, the series is consistently excellent and ups the ups the ante with every in statement in breathtaking fashion. Hopefully, this film doesn't put you off on continuing the series.

Magnificent Gojira

At least this is the movie done by real director as well as the first one. Others are more 'realistic' in many ways but they're just Tom Cruise self-indulging (sometimes fascinating nevertheless). Hard Target is fun!

Michael

I can't wait until they get to Ghost Protocol; my fav of the franchise and one of my top 10 action movies. Brad Bird's first live-action movie as director, and a lot of the inventiveness and humor and personality evident in the action set pieces in The Incredibles carries over perfectly =)

Pepijn Schmitz

Tom Cruise is in two movies that start with Iko Iko: this one and Rainman.

Pepijn Schmitz

The dagger to Ethan's eye was filmed for real. With a chain on the dagger so it absolutely could not move too far.

sarCC

Surprised this didn't get the Cinecringe tag. If you want to see the movie romance this ripped off but couldn't live up to, watch Hitchcock's NOTORIOUS. Tom and Thandiwe don't have 1/10th the chemistry and charisma of Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman.

Happy Hanukkah

I enthusiastically join others in advocating for John Woo's Hollywood debut, Hard Target (1993). It's not the most John Woo movie nor the most Van Damme movie, but its insanely over-the-top style is highly entertaining. I was simultaneously admiring it and laughing at the ridiculousness. And Lance Henriksen steals the show as the villain.

Skinny_Obelix

The climbing made me think of a documentary you guys should watch: Free Solo

Jeff I.

Ooh, that'd be a pretty fun reaction, now that I think about it! It's a very well done documentary.

Noe Ramirez

I can't stand John Woo's movies. haha but I love the fact that he has his style and when you put on one of his movies you know its him. Now that style isn't for me and every single one of his movies gives me a headache, but I respect the hell out of him for doing what he does and not giving a shit what others think of it.

Byron

Face/Off is peak “John Woo in America” insanity. Nick Cage is peak crazy Cage. John Travolta is … in it. By comparison, it makes Con Air look like a very reasonable documentary of something that could happen.

ZP

This movie technically changed movie history for superhero movies. The bad guy was to play wolverine in the first X-men movie but shooting delays of MI2 forced X-men director to go to his second choice, Hugh Jackman. Suffice to say, X-men would have been very different without Hugh Jackman.

James Falato

"MI2" is still a "Woo" of a Film...

ZerozeroZero

Hang on! You guys got breaking bad season 1? Why can’t I find it? Or did you guys accidentally show us the future? In that case: I can’t wait!!

Armchair Wizard

They said after Ted Lasso they're doing season 1 of Breaking Bad, and perhaps more after that.

JoeNotCharles

I think George is understating the mismatch with the tone of this film - the first one is a suspense film with some action sequences, but the big standout moment is Tom Cruise just freezing and hoping not to be noticed. This one's all over the top action. It's a really good action movie (better than I remembered, in fact), but it's not even the right genre! (I never watched the ones after this because I was sick of Tom Cruise by that point, but I'd imagine they're better liked because they move back towards suspense.)

Jesse Coombs

If you love "sexy shenanigans", I'd highly recommend "Out of Sight". It's by the same director of Ocean's Eleven and is in the same shared universe as "Jackie Brown". It's really good.
