I was not a fan of this one but I'll still watch it with you. I think you've probably heard this is the weakest of them. If so, I agree. The others are better IMO.

Odd Thomas

A necessary evil to get to the good ones, but there are some cool stunts in 2

JoshG

Yeah like George was saying, I don’t think this is a bad movie, just compared to the others, it’s the worst of the franchise. I LOVE the villain’s performance in #3 (you’ll recognize the actor when you get there). And to me, mission impossible 4 and 6 are in my opinion some of the best action movies I’ve ever seen!

Odd Thomas

George and Simone, you are my favourite reactors, don't let the b's get you down. We love you. (hug emoji)

Warwick Stinson

You folks are great and I am so sorry you get such negative interactions. I really, really don't understand at all, just alien to me, wish it wasn't the case. Hang in there but also take care of yourselves.

Theoshin

to live is an awfully big adventure!

JediLounger

The Internet is wild man. It is incredible and confounding and horrible all at the same time. Both of you are incredibly brave to put yourselves out there like this, and I am endlessly grateful every time you guys post a video. Just thank you a million times over. In regards to the movie. While I agree this is the Mission Impossible that is least liked, I think it will be helpful to introduce Simone to Woo as a filmmaker. My introduction to him was Hard Boiled, which is quite a shock to the system lol. Obviously with George being so aware of Woo as a filmmaker there is no need to list any movies, so you guys should just watch them all. It is a moral imperative lol. I am watching the movie with you guys now, and Cruise did indeed do the climb, but they had lots of wires and cables, they just removed them with CGI.

Tay Schumaker

Sure you've seen elsewhere, but this is definitely the low bar for the series. Just over the top insanity. It's still a lot of fun if you get on board with it. But from 3 on they just keep getting better.

Paul G

Keep up the good work guys, you’re awesome! “Be curious, not judgemental.”

Odd Thomas

George please introduce Simone to Face/Off, it's my favourite John Woo movie! His first Hollywood movie was Hard Target, then Broken Arrow, then Face/Off, which was really the first time he was allowed to do what he wanted, whereas the studio interfered greatly on Hard Target and Broken Arrow.

Michael Robayo

I always enjoyed this film. It feels like the black sheep of the series, but I appreciate that they went with John Woo and made a different type of film from the first one. But when you watch the rest of the series, you will say why this one seems so different.

Jim Frykman

Hugs for George, you rock man! You two are both exactly 50% of the equation for why your content is so great and engaging!

Tay Schumaker

Don't let the bastards keep you down George and Simone

JayF

George and Simone, I get that some negative comments stick with you. The way the mind works it is always going to focus on negative memories more that positive ones. This was especially true as an animal cruelty investigator and I'm sure it's the same for cops, EMS, firemen, etc. The way I got through it is that I saved the video (bodycam) all of my positive interactions with any animals or people. so I will always have those memories to fall back on. My suggestion to both of you is to take a pic of especially nice and supportive comments (or video of interactions) so you can do the same. Turn to those memories when your mind focuses on the others. You are both lovely people. I'm sorry you are even having to deal with those idiots.

Mark Messer

You guys are best. Honestly.

Kane Is Able

I'm not allowed to leave. I'm forced to watch by my alien overlords.

Big.Bad.Mr.Mustard

George. Your unique quirkiness is complementary & indispensable. It is the reason I wait for you guys to react to a movie rather than subscribe to many of the other cookie cutter reaction channels. DON'T YOU EVER FUCKING CHANGE unless YOU want to.

Kane Is Able

I guess we're not going to get Feminist Cunts Cinebitches shirt.

GBmain

Simone's negative comment managed to provoke a laugh from me, though I realize it probably shouldn't have. When comments become that extreme, they become so nonsensical that they lose any meaning or impact to me. It's disheartening that you have to endure such remarks, but unfortunately, it's become the norm on the internet these days. Those making such comments likely haven't taken the time to truly engage with your content nor develop a well-informed opinion on either of you. I lean toward the right-wing myself, but I appreciate how you maintain a moderate and open-minded stance on a range of matters. Both of you are genuinely good people. I found cultivating a more Stoic mindset has been useful in helping me dismiss such negativity. I keep a small copy of Marcus Aurelius' Meditations in my car and often flip through it whenever I feel that I'm being treated in such a manner. It's disheartening to witness everything being politicized these days. I'm thankful that I don't have to deal with that here on Patreon, where we can engage in more thoughtful and joyful discussions. Maintain your optimism. During the frequent times I've been feeling down over the past few years, you both have consistently lifted my spirits. Let's not allow the few negative voices dominate our thoughts.

christopher b swanson

this movie is a piece of shit............but buckle up from part 3 on they get better with each movie and 3 is miles beyond this mess

MikeBdrx

Just remember when you have haters that just means you’ve made it. Lol

Jacob King

About the negative comments, I’ll just say why I like you guys and it’s because I can see you thinking through what you’re watching and showing genuine interest in the story or the characters or the filming. Reaction content mimics the the real life process of sharing something you love with a friend and you only share stuff with people that you know will get it. When you guys react to a movie even if it’s not a great movie or you don’t love it you are both clearly paying attention and engaging with the material on screen which is all a fan can ask from someone watching the thing they love for the first time. Also I like the jokes, the jokes are funny. I think if anyone is posting hateful comments it’s probably not necessary to accept that the thing they sat they’re mad about, for example George’s off the cuff remarks, is actually what they are mad about. Some folks are just mad and retrofit their opinions to fit their anger, if it wasn’t that thing it would be something else. Not much to say about MI:2 except the series gets exponentially better from here. Culturally, we remember it being a failure but I think it was actually much more successful than 3 at the box office (actually allowing for inflation and a much lower budget it was more successful than MI:7).

djKENTO

It's only up from here... It literally just gets better and better.

christopher b swanson

to sound less dickish, I am happy you guys enjoyed it, I thought Georges re view was spot on.......not bad for some but every series has a worst........

lumpycoal

i have a feeling some of the anger towards George comes from white knights. the kind of guys in the comments that are just infatuated with Simone, and is jealous of George for even being able to talk to a woman lol. but adding to that is it becomes a vibe of "anything he says is bad and everything she says is perfect". so when George makes a off hand joke, some times at the expense of Simone (which is what best friends do), these white knight defender comes through and they get all "how dare you speak that way to my unhealthy obessesion". as for that awful message and im sure other messages Simone receives, well... the internet has no shortage of hateful misogynists, thats not news to anyone anymore i dont think.

Tay Schumaker

Tom Cruise definitely climbed that. He had safety wires on, but he was still up there. I think I remember reading Woo couldn't even watch when he did the jump.

mpd

Not that this would make you feel any better, but your comment section on youtube looks the same as any reaction channel: 1% negative comments, 4% positive comments, 95% repeating the same "fun fact" about the movie over and over.

Tay Schumaker

This movie is also why we have Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. The guy who plays Ambrose, Dougray Scott, was cast as Wolverine, but had to pull out because shooting on this movie ran long. Jackman was a last minute replacement

Jim Frykman

Thandiwe Newton is such a badass! She's great in Westworld, too.

Vwlss Nvwls

I love John Woo, and I really like this movie, but it is my least favorite of the franchise. I just didn't feel like John Woo's style was right for Mission: Impossible. However, I do like or love all the movies, and they just get better and better with each movie. I think you two will really like the next one, but the fourth is my favorite of the franchise. If I were to rate the franchise from my favorite to least favorite it would be 4,1,3,5,2. Not including six or seven since I have not watched them enough yet. :)

Tay Schumaker

Also that knife to the eye stunt was real "Now, we had a real knife that was really sharp and really pointy. There was no faking that. What we did do was we had a cable attached to it in the knife which was hooked to an overhead bar that, so the knife could only go so far.” "[I]f he'd sit up or move or twitch or the cable were to slip or ... There's a lot of 'maybes' that make it an interesting shot to watch. But he did do that part with a real knife."

Tenn Seven

I know a lot of people consider this one to be the worst of the series, but in my book it's head and shoulders above the first one. I'm a sucker for John Woo though, and it's funny to me when people complain that this one is "over the top" in light of the bonkers shit that happens in later entries.

Tenn Seven

I agree, Thandiwe Newton is fantastic in everything she's in. Her daughter is really good in Last of Us, as well (not sure if she's been in anything else).

King_Panarisi

The blonde antagonists accent sounds South African to me.

djKENTO

I really appreciated the opening talk you both had at the start of this one. I’ve found movie nerds can sink so low and get so toxic and weird. Just the other day in the poll I recommended saving a movie for spooky season cuz it takes place on Halloween and this dude went in on it, with so much anger and it’s like… What am I supposed to say to that? You know the comic-book nerd on The Simpsons? It’s like people saw that guy being an absolute loser with no friends, no life and who’s always talking shit and they said “I’m not going to learn anything from this and lean into it”. It’s so annoying.

djKENTO

I also love all the speculation on John Woo and the studio reigning him in… cuz boy oh boy they DID NOT. hahaha. I’m so excited for this. The issue is they got Brian De Palma who’s did Silence of the Lambs, Blow Out, Scarface… he’s a man of style but far more restrained than John Woo, even in his most outlandish films it’s not reality breaking with doves and slow motion a and multiple takes one after the other of the same shot… so going from him to John Woo is a HUGE tonal shift. Then they get JJ Abrams and it becomes a factory of the same kind of movie over and over. But I’d say the new films lose the class and style of the first film. They remind me of the Fast & Furious films in that way that they started small, the second film is a weird misstep and then the franchise gets a director that really figures it out and hones it to a fine edge.

Brendan Rafferty

This was the worst of the MI movies. Brilliant Hong Kong director John Woo had only recently started doing Hollywood movies and had little or no power or autonomy, decisions being made by committee and it shows. Separately, there are huge gaping logic problems in the plot. The biggest… in this film, Ethan Hunt and his team are NOT disavowed…. Yet with the fate of the world on the line, he goes into the base and after the villain alone, instead of calling local Australian intelligence agencies and going in with a battalion of infantry. MI3 is where the series starts to get really good and each following film gets better and more intense

Brendan Rafferty

Sad Trivia: Actor Dougray Scott, who played the main villain, was cast as Wolverine in the X-Men film…. A role that we all know would have propelled him to the A-list… unfortunately, this major career move was torpedoed by Paramount Pictures. Paramount, in an attempt to fuck over 20th Century Fox films, recalled Dougray Scott for contractually obligated reshoots just as production began on X-Men. Lawyers got involved and Paramount won, forcing Fox to quickly find a replacement and hire Hugh Jackman, then a relatively unknown actor. The rest is history. Hugh Jackman is a name everyone in the world knows and Dougray Scott… well I bet you didn’t even know his name until you read this.

simon brouillard

I mean, the American movie that John Woo did that is a must watch is Face/Off and also love you guys

Zach McBride

Love the videos as always! dont listen to the haters! you guys are great!

Dioskur

Ha! That shoutout! "CineGoldInBed"? I see what you did there, fren!

sarCC

George and Simone, I think the both of you are amazing and wonderful. Whenever I need to feel better, there's no better cure than putting on one of my many favorite movies that you've covered and watching it with you two. Thank you two for being you. You're the best.

Truth

Very pleased that you are continuing the franchise its truly brilliant. I never understood the hate for this film but i do understand that its style is very different. Its my least favourite but that's because the others are so amazing. If this film wasnt called mission impossible it would be classified just as a fun Tom Cruise action movie. People forget that this franchise started way before the films. It was a tv show so the fans are very passionate and a lot more critical.

Cincassette

Even if it's considered the "worst", It's one the more memorable M:I movie from my childhood. Looking forward to rewatching the rest of the franchise with you guys. Another wildcard film that I think would make for an interesting reaction is "Birdman" (2014). It's unlike anything else.

Ginger

I can't imagine what is going on in the heads of people who write comments and messages like that. So sorry you guys have to deal with this, you're so great and I love the videos you produce. <3 Much love and greetings from Germany Personally, the third is my least favorite, just because it is so unpleasant. The forth one is the best, because Brad Bird is great. :D If you want to watch some other great John Woo Hollywood movies, I highly recommend "Face Off" and "Paycheck" (which I think is unjustly considered a bad movie. It's fun).

Ginger

On a random side note: I kind of love when you forget to look at the cast list beforehand and get surprised. It's so much fun, imagine watching "Heat" like that :)

REDR58

Birdman is excellent but they should probably watch Batman from 1989 first (if they haven’t already done so).

Calum Grace

for my money, George is correct in his sum-up on this one at the end, in that this is generally considered the "worst" of a series where every film is still at worst a 7/10 solid watchable feast of a movie. I love M:I 2 for all the ridiculousness myself, and would maybe even rate it higher than a few others, but this is genuinely a series where every film is great and you're grading on that scale :)

idomineo

honestly hard target is kinda fun!

redddfer44

A friend of mine is a huge fan of "Hard Target". His non-spoilery endorsement: Van Damme has a mullet and wears his shirt inside his tight-fitting jeans and does roundhouse kicks.

JDV

It's interesting that you guys brought up the idea that there could be people out there who'd become a patron just to leave mean comments. Far-fetched perhaps but I bet there are weird, terminally-online types out there who would do actually do that. Anyway, stay strong, and keep doing MI movies, the franchise only goes up from here.

Jim Frykman

Yeah this one gets a bad rap and it was a bit of an odd pairing, but it has grown on me over the years.

Torstein Skurve

So sorry you guys have to deal with shit like that. If it's any consolation those people are definately sad and envious.

Ethan Holgate

Very good of you to share what you shared at the beginning George it's good to talk about things like that I used to be very resentful of negative comments or things I don't agree on but I've learned to understand that, that's just how people can be so I'm immune to it now but I know what you mean 10 negative comments certainly can be quite triggering compared to all the positive ones, I see it as if they sound like losers then there losers or if they say go kill yourself then clearly they have no life other than to make other people feel bad anyway all that aside Mission Impossible 2 is great glad you guys liked it

Cavatica

You 2 are among the most likeable people I've ever encountered, online or off, and you have such great chemistry.

Bryan Barton

ARRRGH, I WOULD LIKE TO RAGE ABOUT SOMEONE ELSE’S OPINION ON THE INTERNET! Sorry, I was being a bit cheeky there… well, I also thought maybe Simone might get a kick out of the “I would like to rage” comment, being a fellow Critter. George, I felt your comments in the pre-show and it honestly hurt a little bit right in the heart area. I just want to take a moment to affirm to you both that putting yourself out there on the internet is tremendously brave and you are both showing a strength most of us just don’t have. I’m impressed. Also, I didn’t join your channel because I agree with everything you say, I joined because your humanity enhances the viewing experience of the movies and shows I already want to spend time watching. I’m not interested in seeing reactions that echo my thoughts, it’s your uniqueness that makes it all worth it. Don’t change for haters. Also, something else to keep in mind. People who are awful on the internet are often still loved by someone in the real world for the care they’ve given. We need to avoid labeling them as awful and recognize they are just desperate people who don’t have an outlet for that negative energy in their lives. I’ve found that people like that become much easier to handle when we aknowledge their viscousness isn’t really about a comment or a movie, we were just in their path when they tried to escape their worries. What’s the happiest animal on the planet? A goldfish because it has a 10 second memory. Be a goldfish… also, Football is life!

Bryan Barton

Also, George, I don't know about others but I'd be interested in a Balders Gate 3 playthrough. I'm not able to play through it myself but I'm very interested in passively experiencing the storyline. If you happen to do that, I'd happily watch it!

Alex Ch

Had a lot of fun with this reaction! The “sounds like Gladiator” is absolutely dead on - not only the same composer, but the same release year. Hans Zimmer was definitely experimenting with that vocal sound in 2000.

Chase Schleich

That knife to the eye stunt at the end of the film was REAL. Really Tom Cruise, real knife, really an inch from his eye. They put the knife on a cable rig, measured the cable to have it go taut exactly an inch from where Tom's eye would be, and Tom instructed the stunt guy to stab at his eye with full force so it would look as real as possible. Dude is fucking crazy.

Efrain Zavala

Some suggestions for scary movies: Get out Us Midsommar 10 Cloverfield lane The purge

Eddy

The series starts to get really good from Mission Impossible 3 and up.

DinChild

Can't wait to see the MI3 and beyond...just like I can't wait to finish the Planet of the Apes trilogy! :)

Foodassassin4life

You both are so awesome and funny. I hate when people take their frustrations out on others like that but especially couldn't believe two people that are as amazing and kind as you two have to deal with that. I know it's hard to ignore hate when you get it but I hope you guys realize how much your actual fans all respect and care for you. Don't ever let some shithead troll or sad pathetic fuck ever bring you guys down. You're Both So Fuckin Awesome!!!

Adam Barry

I remember when this came out, as an Aussie, it was SO weird to see a big action car chase sequence with Australian cars and not generic American, or even European, vehicles. Also the magic tyres on the bikes changing from road to dirt tyres when they hit the sand still irks me.

WayneC

A completely different role for Anthony Hopkins was "The World's Fastest Indian".

JayF

Agreed. It's a great little indie movie. The Remains of the Day was very good but I don't know if it would fit well for a reaction or not.

Joe

Phew, that's the crap one out of the way. The rest of the MI series is balls-to-the-wall great.

MasterElodin

Since you siad you read every comment: I just wanted to say that I really sincerely appreciate you guys. Like the amount of times you guys made me laugh on a bad day is insane. And that specifically includes your goofy off hand comments and jokes George :) As I said in another comment on here before I think this Patreon subscription would be worth it for the pre-movie goofyness you guys get up to already. So thanks for doing this and don't try to let the negative stuff get to you too much. <3

Travis

Commenting on your intro: don’t give those folks any power George. You’re satiating them by letting them know that their comments hurt even when you know well enough to just ignore them. Both of you should be very confident with what you’ve built here. The loyalty of your followers is evidence. The things they’re hating on you for is most likely just a mirror to things that they hate within themselves. There are so many outlying factors that can play into when people make comments like that — you don’t have the context to their mood or mental state and it’s important to realize that. I would say that a huge majority of the time it actually has nothing to do with you and everything to do with what’s going on with them at that moment. Keep doing you. Be more confident in yourself. Honestly, that’s the only time I kind of roll my eyes at either of you is when you’re not being nice to yourselves and being confident. It’s such an important attribute to build on. It opens up so many opportunities and makes life more enjoyable. You have nothing to be ashamed of. You guys are funny and kind. The best kind of people. ✌🏼&❤️

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

Had no interest in this particular reaction (didn't like the film) but after reading comments I wanted to watch the opening talk...and def appreciated. Human nature that there can be 100 positive things but the 2 most negative horrible things are always the loudest people. At the end of the day if someone doesn't like the style they should just not watch but of course some just love to be hateful. I appreciate you read all the comments because, 1. it is good to see theh positive things, 2. I appreciate that you read actual contstructive critique which I know I've given and I've seen good stuff from others and I like knowing you read my suggestions on random draws etc (even if you think all my ideas are dumb..ha). I don't get why peeps would watch if they don't like the reaction style...are there times George has made a joke at a certain time and I roll my eyes...sure...but that is like I would do with certain friends as well...basically a likable guy and sometimes I'm like..Ok enough...like Simone does..ha... there was a reactor who I watched a few of her things and subbed to her..but then after about watching 6 or 7 more vids her yelling just got on my nerves..so I simply unsubbed...simple...and btw she seemed like the most lovely person..but she just yells a lot during reactions..ha... if someone hates the dad jokes...then unsub..simple...you guys do a great job...but I'm still gonna keep suggesting my ideas you probably hate about polls and ways to get lesser known movies watched..haha...keep up the great work y'all...love your banter and you both seem like very lovely people

Jared Winn

Love you George. Love you Simone. Like Rebecca said recently in Ted Lasso: “Fuck the haters”. I’ll get the to video soon but I saw an abundance of comments for this post and had to see what the fuss was about. Keep up the good work, you guys are doing great.

Jared Winn

Also, the MI movies get better from here, each is better than the previous.

Foodassassin4life

May I suggest that when you do a franchise you don't look up the cast or posters (since you know the main actors anyway and sometimes seeing a cast list sometimes gives away certain surprises or twists) so you can be surprised when the actors appear like you guys did accidentally on this one cuz it was so entertaining to see your shock when they appeared in the movie

Gary Fixler

The very end of the film felt like an homage to Seurat's "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte."

Gary Fixler

It's amazing how you can reframe things. I had a roommate who was a great guy, but the worst roommate. He would leave fresh food out to go bad. I'd come home to him jamming on his guitar at 3AM, and we were in a nice complex full of people. He'd vanish for 2 weeks, no note, and I'd wonder if he was going to return to help with rent, or if I should file a missing persons report. I started a file on my computer where I'd put the date, what he did, and give him a score. Food spoiled? 1 point. Fridge has been wide open for who knows how long? 5 points. Left the front door unlocked, and he and his car are gone? 10 points, etc. One day I realized he didn't do anything that day, and I was actually sad I didn't get to fill in anything. Then I started to notice lots of days he did nothing wrong. Most days. The bad days just stuck out a ton. It also meant my reaction to each infraction was flipped - I would get excited, like "OMG, this is easily 30 points," and I'd hurry to my computer to add it. I was actually having fun when he'd do something stupid. Brains are weird. The reactor version might be a monthly hangout with reactor friends, where as part of it they share, laugh, and commiserate with each other about all the internet bile. They'd probably start having my kind of reaction, like "Omg, the group is going to love this one."

Onno Smits

I'm sorry you guys have to deal with so many shitty people. I have some experience in this too, where it's the few negative messages that "haunt" you. It was putting me in a pretty bad place mentally, trying to figure out why people were so shitty/angry with me. Trying to understand or empathise with them was bad for my mental health. In the end, I learned to start thinking of those angry people as a different species than me. Some lower lifeform that's incapable of compassion or remorse. It gave my brain the excuse not to put myself in their shoes anymore. Probably not the healthiest of coping mechanisms, but it's been very helpful for me, so... 🤷‍♂️

John S

The channel wouldn't work with just one of you two. It's the mix of personalities and humor that makes it a success. That said, you can't please everyone. Don't even try. It's impossible.

Aaron M

Seeing you guys laugh brightens my whole day. Just know that there are a lot of people out here who like you and think you are awesome.

Eric S

I love you just the way you are dude. Be you. You're awesome. Especially your pervy jokes. I look forward to those moments in movies when I can count on you to notice the naughty moments and make a comment or joke. It always makes me laugh. Don't pay attention to the assholes. Love you guys. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face, and making a lonely introvert feel like I have friends to hang out with and watch these movies with. Keep on being excellent, and party on dudes. :)

Ricardo Alanis

I started watching your reactions and eventually joined patreon specifically because your dynamic and both of your personalities for me work really well together and you both always come across as genuine. Keep going because it’s what most of us are here for!

Ricardo Alanis

Glad you liked the campy nature of this particular entry, and it is very fun, but it definitely feels a bit out of step with the rest. M:I III is one of my faves especially the villain and the actor’s performance. And you definitely HAVE to watch Face/Off for another fantastic John Woo film with Nicolas Cage and John Travolta.

Lou Gallucci

You need to watch Free Solo ;)

Zeroplue

Don't listen to the haters, George. We love both you and Simone!

BlindPanda

Sorry to hear about all those negative people coming after you guys. In all honesty this has become one of my all time favorite channels, you two make a great pair and wouldn’t change a dang thing. Much love to you both 🤘🏻🐼

Śéáń

Super late to this one but just wanted to add to the chorus of people saying you're both really great, and it's awful to hear about those kinds of negative comments listed. Like you say, they are in the super small minority of people even if they do cut through the 'noise' of positivity all too easy. So with an audience of many, many thousands, you're unfortunately, given the nature of the internet and social media, going to attract those who's only purpose in online life is to lash out as cruelly as they can, because they can. Reaction channels are probably a bit more vulnerable to their own kinds of negative backlash given the implicit parasocial nature of it too. I'll stop rambling here, I just felt the need to say something. I really enjoy you guys for this very unique genre of entertainment that reaction channels have developed in the past couple of years, and you're two of the best at it (imo), both from your work on camera and behind it, so I hope these negative attacks don't continue to marr your experience too much.

Gabriel Garza

You are both amazing and remember that those people hate themselves more than they hate you and that’s not your fault or your problem.

David Lonewolf Wright

I like how the first 4 movies of this franchise each have a very different feel, though the 4th in my mind set a continued theme and style that has for the most part carried it's way through the most recent film. I also have to disagree with the people thinking this film didn't have the John Woo feel to it, I more think this one really feels like a mismatch to the rest of the series, but still is a fun ride. I kind of like you guys being surprised by not knowing the cast going into the movie as the shock and response to seeing some of the actors added to the enjoyment of the reaction for me.
