As I said in a previous comment. This one is not for me. It's not a bad film but it's so bleak it's just depressing. Hoffman is incredible though

jim Howe

Nice. These films continue to get better with each one.

This is the one that took the Mission Impossible films from the occasional Tom Cruise action vehicle to full blown mega franchise and rebooted the format to have more solid continuity from one film to the next. Hoffman is a next level villain.

Out of context this thumbnail is kinda sus.

jack ass

please tell me that was a shadowheart reference

This was my favorite action movie for a LONG time... until Mad Max Fury Road released. Excellent! And that thumbnail kind of looks like Donald Trump giving himself the business. LOL

Ron

You guys have the *best* thumbnails!

I had that exact same thought about the long bridge and True Lies, but apparently that's a different bridge. M:I-3 uses the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel (in Virginia) and the True Lies bridge is the Seven Mile Bridge in the Florida Keys (also used in the Bond movie Licence to Kill, as well as 2 Fast 2 Furious). Yes, that's Aaron Paul -- two years before Breaking Bad. He looks older to me here than he does in the beginning of BB.

I don’t know about that thumbnail! Did Simone sign off on that one?! 😂

Ludovic Ligot

One could interpret the thumbnail in a "special" way... 😅 Recommendations for "stoner movies" you should ABSOLUTELY watch : "Dude, Where's My Car ?" (Danny Leiner, 2000) "Smiley Face" (Gregg Araki, 2007)

You guys are gonna love this series. It just keeps getting better. And then Rebecca Ferguson shows up and... *swoon*

Regarding the thumbnail, I know the saying about old couples starting to look alike, but still... (And I am absolutely shocked at the gutter some of the commenters' minds lie in! :-) (Say, will anyone recognize a reference to Adebisi and Schibetta?)) J.J. Abrams is more infamous for his deliberate "mystery box" technique, which his critics describe as a cheap tactic to draw in viewers by setting up fascinating plot mysteries, but without bothering to provide any ultimate payoff. Michael Bay is notorious for his obsession with AWESOME explosions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yj9yt1M7S-8 And may I say, I was quite disturbed by the prolonged discussion at the start of the reaction about "dangling things." :-)

There's no doubt that the future films have some far superior set pieces, but Hoffman so elevates this film for me and puts it firmly in my Top 3 of MI films. For genre/action films, his performance as Davian is one of the best ever. And Michelle Monaghan deserves a big shout out as well. It's not much of part, but she is effortlessly charming and memorable in it. One of the few actresses in Hollywood that Cruise actually has believable chemistry with.

I loved 3. It’s one of my favorite films of the series. I don’t know if it’s the best in the series because, seriously, they only get better from here, but I always feel like it’s the turning point of Mission Impossible’s streak of making bolder, more exciting, and more tense films from here on out. The stunts get better, the action scenes get more creative, and the stories just start getting even more multi-layered and intense. By comparison, 3 feels more personal and smaller scale and that’s what I like about it. It’s like the relative calm before the bigass storm.

J.J. Abrams was completing the 5th and Final Season of "Alias" - a Spy/Action TV Show He created and was a Writer and Executive Producer of - in 2005, so this was a Good Chance for Him to make His Directorial Debut... And He Did Extremely Well Did He Not?!?

Nate Gavin

Loving her double take here! Unimpressed vs Dumbfounded. She's got thumbnail range!

overdev

why does the thumbnail look so wrong?:X

Niklas Ericsson

Hard to enjoy any M:I movies anymore after the crap the last movie pulled.

WastedPo

Potential Spoiler for MI7: Dead Reckoning, even though I'll try to speak very vaguely... Niklas, I think I get where you're coming from. I'm still holding out a very slim hope that it was a trick on the audience that will pay off.

Gary Poussard

This is one of my least favorite MI movies even though most people say that about 2.

יוסי פורקוש

4 5 6 are better with 6 being the best, the 7th is tired and not a good script.
