Its very cool you guys are doing Shyamalan :) Most people will tell you Sixth sense is his best film but I personally believe his masterpiece is Unbreakable. It's an incredible movie considering how early it came out. I won't spoil what it's about but the movie is so clever you'd think it came out after the superhero trend. It says everything there is to say about the genre before the genre even becomes a thing. Really incredible film. Sadly it's ups and many downs from there.

UnSafeStu

Had to quickly look it up. The little girl is also Little Rock in Zombieland.

Liesmith

Signs in a nutshell: "Dear baby Jesus, thank you for saving me from those aliens you sent."

Snatcher42

You said the film is about family, and yes, but I think even more it's about faith. It's almost a religious film. Everything that happens - from the mom's death, to the son's asthma, the brother's baseball career, and the little girl leaving water around - was the series of events needed for them to survive that night, and were presumably the work of a higher power. The title has a double meaning, the crop circles yes but also the signs of God. And yes, Shyamalan said the aliens are almost more like demons. Not a coincidence the way to defeat them is first discovered in the middle-east.

Jacob Lantom

Yes. It does help us place things George

Kron0n

The only alien invasion that can be rained off.

8bitAndy

Also in Little Miss Sunshine, which would be a great reaction video, imo

Orphan Crippler

You should watch the Happening, it's a great movie about no one giving Mark Wahlberg A GODAMN SECOND!!

Kyle King

Aw you were 90% of the way there! Its not water that injures them, its what's in the water. I will agree its a fault of the movie that it wasn't made clearer. A single line of dialogue explicitly saying it like if the son told the book seller lady "ever since we got put on city water" or something. There is also a possible read that its holy water if you want to go full symbolism.

Brandy Sawyer

If you love young abigail breslin, you should definitely watch Little Miss Sunshine

Duke Running

45 miles in America is 72 .4 kilometers in Canada I think lol

In this situation, Simone is correct that the Location note here is meant to emphasize that they're out in the middle of nowhere. In other instances, it's often meant to indicate how we're supposed to view the characters and their setting. Shorthand for "These characters are rubes from a dying town" or "This Main Character is from the Hip city" or things like that. The audience isn't expected to really know the geography "100 miles out of New York City", but they know that means they're OUT of New York City.

Kinokind

I enjoy the movie, but an advanced civilization that can't stand water trying to invade a water-based planet? Would we want to move to a planet where it frequently rained hydrochloric acid? Now, if it was something in the city water, it could only be chlorine. But how is chlorine "primitive"? And that means that only parts of the world with "city water" could defend against them. Anyway, Shyamalan's character says he's going to the lake because he hears they don't like water. I think it's just "plot-device" water". But that really doesn't affect the story the film is trying to tell, or messages the movie is trying to impart, and aside from the silliness of the water as a device, I don't think it affects the film as a whole. The pervasive sense of dread is impressive.

REDR58

Unbreakable and Split are fantastic, then Glass just craps all over the bed at the end. What a missed opportunity.

REDR58

SLIGHT SPOILERS for The War of the Worlds for those who want to go in cold (Also, Simone and George, add “The War of the Worlds” to the list!) I have yet to watch this but the plot of The War of the Worlds is similar in that XXXX brings about the defeat of the Martians which seems a silly reason for a space-faring civilization to succumb to as well, but then again even a sophisticated society can fall victim to unforeseen circumstances.

Rob Church

The Happening is so terrible, I really want them to react to it.

Joits

The movie was really entertaining the first time I saw it that I overlooked the fact that the aliens were really really stupid.

Travis H

I saw this movie when I was younger in theaters (and it freaked me the F out). One of my favorite things about it was that they had an asthmatic character that wasn’t a complete weirdo. Typically (especially in animation) asthmatic characters are short redheads with glasses that are too socially awkward to function, as an asthmatic this was massively refreshing! I forget have they done the three Jordan Peele movies yet (Get Out, Us, Nope). If not they would be good options for movies like Signs. And someone else mentioned but watch Little Miss Sunshine if you want more Abagail Breslin.

Rachel W

The science in Signs is awful but the film isn't about aliens, really. And it's otherwise well done and acted, so I overlook it. Also, M Night stole the wife's death circumstances from an old episode of HBOs Taxicab Confessions

George, the tin foil hat originates from a 1927 short story, "The Tissue-Culture King" by Julian Huxley, in which a character wears a metal hat to avoid being mind controlled.

Monica Alarcon

Now you can see Scary movie 3! oh wait... you might need to watch 8 Mile first but I think you can do without it...

Jeff I.

Just throwing out another recommendation for Little Miss Sunshine!

Sarevok84

The birds eye view driving scene is Memorial Park in Oxford, Pa. My home town.

Andrew

You guys should definitely check out "Little Miss Sunshine." Abigail Breslin (the little girl in this movie) is in it, and it's a great movie.

Michael Grooms

I got scared for Simone when I saw her reaction to seeing the Alien Video. I thought she was going to hyperventilate

Daniel Bjork

Yall should def react to some twilight zone episodes

ZerozeroZero

A recommendation of another movie with Abigail Breslin (this little girl): Little miss sunshine

Gary Fixler

In 1974, the US government passed the "National Maximum Speed" law, set at 55MPH (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Maximum_Speed_Law). That was a super common speed limit sign I saw on highways everywhere in the 80s. People often go 5 over, of course, so about 60MPH I knew as the standard speed when going somewhere a little ways away, like on the highway to a few towns over. There are 60 minutes in an hour, so driving about how people tended to drive on highways all through my childhood and early adulthood, hearing something was 45 miles away meant it would take about 45 minutes to get there (speeding in the empty areas with low traffic, so the slower bits at the ends average out). I heard conversations like that my whole early life - "C'mon it's only 45 miles away. We'll be there in 45 minutes." So, when they say something like "20 miles outside of Philadelphia, I may not know which direction, but I have a decent sense of about how far away that very large city is - it's pretty nearby, and would likely affect the local people in various ways (daily commutes to jobs, lots of places for shopping, dining, etc, traffic reports might matter). In 1995, Congress repealed the NMS law, and immediately states raised speed limits. A lot of people thought it would bring the apocalypse of auto accidents, but it actually went the opposite way (https://www.cato.org/policy-analysis/speed-doesnt-kill-repeal-55-mph-speed-limit).

Who else wants to see a reaction to Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)? Leonard Nimoy, Jeff Goldblum, and a contender for the best script of any sci-fi horror film.

Gary Fixler

I grew up Catholic (mom's side), and none of the priests could marry. When I was a kid, my dad was a Methodist, and the reverend at his church wore the black suit with white collar insert, and had a wife and 2 little kids. I remember being shocked, and dad explaining that reverends in the Methodist religion could get married. I don't know more than that. I guess it's just that each group has its own rules. The only ones I don't trust are the Judean Popular People's Front. Lousy splitters.

Middy

I stopped for a smoke break just before the scene in the garden, returned high af and I'd never been so blown away by a reveal in my life.

Lucifer Moon

god, I loved Mel Gibson so much growing up. Too bad he turned out to be such an EXTREMELY AWFUL MONSTER OF A HUMAN BEING. Anyways thank you for the reaction, great content like always. Oh, but I should specify that yes, I concede he is a good actor and there is nothing wrong with liking or being a fan of his work (I still enjoy many of his films). However, being a good actor is not the same as being a good person or in his case even a moderately decent person.

Lucifer Moon

So, I actually like a lot of M. Nights films but this one really does drop the ball because of one mega glaring thing... the aliens... THESE ARE ALIENS AND THE WAY THE FILM DEPICTS THEM, THEIR TECHNOLOGY, WEAKNESSES, ETC. IS THE MOST POORLY CONCEIVED IDEA FOR ALIEN SPECIES/CIV EVER PUT TO FILM AND THEIR ACTIONS IN THE FILM MAKE EVEN LESS SENSE... LOL. Some people have tried to counter this saying they are not actually aliens but demons but that makes even less sense because if they are demons then they are by far some of the weakest most ineffective demons ever depicted.

Presto2222

So because it's nearing spooky season, and something George said about during Signs reminded me of it, you guys should really throw Casper (1995) up on a poll. It's a film I NEVER would have chosen to watch, but became one of my all-time favorites.

TokyoLopez

i always get this film name confused with (knowing)

Dk

There are no other planets in our galaxy with intelligent life that can be harvested, none reachable to them at the moment at least. So there you go, people can move on with their lives and not complain about plot holes here anymore.

Darin Foat

The first civilization to develop interstellar travel before the raincoat.

Paul Patine

The War of the Worlds (1953) is a good movie to watch that may give you another perspective on this movie's ending. Recommend watching the 1953 version over the newer one.
