They said Simone looked good in the MI: Ghost Protocol thumbnail, but that was before you posted this.

Betelgeuse is a mistranslation from an Islamic name for roughly the part of the night sky that the galaxy is found in. But Europeans made an oopsy and than later English speakers decided that Beetle Juice was a proper way to say the name. Originally the character was named Betelgeuse but they dropped that in favor of the later name.

I very rarely watch this movie because I'm just not a fan, despite enjoying people in the film, and I had forgotten just how little Michael Keaton is actually in it.

ClaryTehSage

Love Pratchett, my favorites are what they call the industrial revolution books. Great react to the movie! ^__^

A really good Michael Keaton comedy is "Night Shift" (1982). Another good Tim Burton movie to watch, especially for spooky season, is "Sleepy Hollow" (1999).

Watching this reminds me to start re-watching "Schitt's Creek" because Canadian Comedy Queen/Legend Catherine O'Hara gives maybe her best performances ever in that series, and it will help fill the void of 'feel good' shows while I longingly wait for you to get back to "Ted Lasso" (I'm already rewatching episodes of "The Good Place" and I think I could watch these three shows on an endless loop forever).

HeyHeyJK

That might have been his very first film and he really was great in it. While it's not strictly a comedy, I think they would love him in "Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)" and also because it's a great film with such a stacked cast.

Even as we speak, Beetlejuice 2 is in production.

An all-time classic! And my first exposure to Tim Burton as a kid, leading me to love his work for years. Fun story: I was 5 or 6 years old when this hit theaters in '88. One afternoon my grandmother was going to take me and my older sister to the movies, and the two of us had different requests as to what we wanted to see. I wanted to see Beetlejuice (why a 6 year old would have known about this movie and wanted to see it, I'll never know), and while I don't remember what my sister wanted to see specifically, I do know I threw a tantrum until they agreed to this movie. Fast forward to the dinner party scene, and the giant shrimp hands jump scare was the last straw (having followed the afterlife waiting room scenes, the room of exercised ghosts which ironically haunted me as a kid for years, among other things): I leaned over to my grandma and told her I was scared and wanted to go home. D: Good on her (I think? lol): She made me stay and watch the rest of it after the scene I'd made beforehand. She was the best, and might have something to do with my affinity for Burton's vibe and general spooky things as an adult. :D

I was excited for this reaction. It was one of my favourite movies as a kid. So unique, Be interesting to see Beetlejuice 2 next year.

I don't know why but the only part of this movie that scared me as a kid was the dirt / patchy skin around michael keaton's face; glad to see it was preserved and then supplemented with new horror.

They are in the middle of shooting another Beetle Juice movie with Jenny Ortega right now.

Betelgeuse is a star, George ;)

11:59 Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary! ... ... Where the hell's my bloody cocktail?! 13:21-13:31 And Winona Ryder, bless her, is perfect for this. :-/ 21:27 Fittingly, this brilliant line left you speechless. :-) 26:58 Well, a little manic Michael Keaton goes a long way. I liked Kenneth Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing (1993), but the way Michael Keaton chose to portray Dogberry was baffling. Nathan Fillion's take on the character in Joss Whedon's 2012 film was much more to my liking. Either way, not that I have high hopes, I recommend both versions. And apropos recommendations, I can't believe I'm the first person here [ADDED: in this particular comments section] to recommend Tim Burton's Big Fish (2003), starring Ewan McGregor and Albert Finney.

Some fantastic Geena Davis films...."Accidental Tourist", a beautiful film that earned her an Academy Award and the great revenge film "Thelma and Louise".

great video, beetlejuice is one of my favorite movies since i saw it at theater when i was 10 years old in 1988. you may be interested in that there was a beetlejuice cartoon for a few years after this, but it was abit different of a plot but still pretty good, it can be found on you tube and other places.

Kate

"Mort" came out the year before this, and of course Pratchett's Death featured in earlier Discworld books too :) Super pleased to hear George is a fan in any case \o/

The Long Kiss Goodnight is IMHO the best Geena Davis film ever...it truly showcases her entire range as a performer, and is just an all-around fun movie. Samuel L. Jackson improves literally every scene he's a part of in what is already an extremely entertaining film. Cannot say enough good things about it.

I was most Surprised that You didn't get the fact this was a Comedy when You look at the Poster for the Film and "Beetlejuice" was Center-Stage in that Wide-Stripe-ed Su-Ite holding the Head of the Groom-ed...

Princess Mia

if george loves this premise i would 100% recommend the bbc show "ghosts"

I have my tickets for Beetlejuice 2. I think I watched the animated tv show before watching the movie when I was little. Who would have thought Alec Baldwin isn't as bad as Jeffrey Jones lol. By the way, did you two spot Jack Skellington? Rewatching this, there were some scenes I didn't remember like Barbara hanging in the closet at the beginning and eyes pop out and I don't ever remember a Jane. Nor the receptionist having her wrist cut. Wednesday season 1 after Black Mirror and/or sometime during season two of Better Call Saul. Better Call Saul on Tuesdays and Wednesday on Wednesdays lol
