First comment!!!!!!! I’m so looking forward to watching this!!

Tyler Norwood

The reason why many people claim this film is a "remake sequel" to the first film was that Sam Remi couldn't use the original footage due to copyright issues; so he recreated the events into the beginning of The Evil Dead 2.

Prof. Writhms

Yes!! I hope you Cine-peeps plan to work your way through the entire franchise to eventually get to the well-made 2013 remake “Evil Dead”. AND finally get to best horror movie of 2023 (or a few years before, in my opinion) “Evil Dead Rise”.

What’s the frame rate on y’all’s copy. It keeps going out of sync with the 4K blu-Ray.

megamoo chilli

I love this film. It gets a bit absurd but there are a lot of cinematic techniques that elevate it from basic exploitation schlock.

djKENTO

The first cabin in the woods movie is probably Night of the Living Dead from the 60s.

Astraeos

Hope you guys do Army of Darkness, truly a unique and hilarious movie.

Johnny Liu

Yesss! I have been looking forward to this since you guys did the first film. Big thanks for getting the video done so quick, and I can't wait to see your reactions. Also make sure to add the final film, Army of Darkness AKA The Medieval Dead on your watchlist.

redddfer44

Army of Darkness has three or four different versions, which is a mess, and two different endings. Whichever version you watch, I recommend googling the other ending and watching it, too.

JediLounger

Just Finished the movie with you guys. You listed the movies, but missed the TV show. Ash Vs The Evil Dead (2015). Ran for three seasons. You guys will love it. The theatrical ending of Army of Darkness is what the series jumps off from. Looking forward to the next one!

Tenn Seven

Oh man, I would LOVE if they watched the Ash vs. Evil Dead series. It is so good, the perfect mix of horror, camp, and comedy. Edit: And I forgot the amazing practical effects.

Opti_Frog

So much fun. Favourite bit: the whole sequence from where Annie stabs Jake to Henrietta dragging him into the cellar is just rip-roaringly funny. "Shut up! Shut up!" 😄

Jared Winn

I just love that the meta of the first half of this movie is Sam Raimi taking a small crew and his best friend and tormenting him for weeks. Throwing him around, splashing him with gore and fake blood, making him make funny faces and act silly to no one. Truly inspirational filmmaking and friendship.

Alex Ch

Ok, I completely hate the new app layout.

kRAyZZed

I think if you watch the directors cut you get all the extra scenes, and then watch just the theatrical ending separately you cover everything. As directors cut has a few extra scenes. There is even a version out there that is the directors cut and then post credits shows the theatrical ending, but I'm not 100% sure if that was just a dvd special thing or not

sarCC

Groovy!

China Andronicus

Got so excited this morning when I got the notification that you watched this and was not disappointed. You are always so funny and honestly I think have the most fun watching films of any reactors I've seen. And the Temple of Doom comment destroyed me. That woman was so irritating. There is also an Evil Dead musical, which combines the three films and is pretty damn good. If you see it live, there is a splash zone.

Odd Thomas

Evil Dead 2 and Poltergeist in the same week makes me very happy. There are actually a lot of similar themes/monsters, weirdly. I also hope you watch Wizard of Oz as its one of Raimi's favourite films and a big inspiration AND he directed the prequel, The Great and Powerful Oz, which is so much fun.

JayF

Can't wait until you get to Army of Darkness.

akaTheBARON

🖤The reason Sam Raimi wanted to make this sequel is because his career was in the toilets having had a few flops since Evil Dead so wanted to make a sequel to Evil Dead because he needed a win. But he didn't actually own any of the rights to the original movie, so he couldn't use any of the footage for flashbacks or a "previously on" segment in the beginning. Since it was 6 years since the original Evil Dead was released he felt there needed to be a recap for context, and that's why he decided to make a condensed "remake" of the first one for the first few minutes.

REDR58

Featuring the THIRD version of Linda (not counting Evil versions)! 😄

Prof. Writhms

And now you can understand the Easter egg in "Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" (directed by Sam Raimi) where Dr. Strange used his magic to make the street vendor (played by Bruce Campbell) lose control of his hand and made him hit himself. Go back and watch that scene! 😂

Thomas Wendel

"Would you choose a shotgun or a chainsaw?" It's not called a shotgun HAHA Can't wait for Army of Darkness

Logan Kerlee

Really enjoyed this one with you both! I'm super looking forward to my favorite! :) You both will be rolling with laughter, I'm sure of it! :)

WastedPo

Please, when/if you watch Army of Darkness, just watch the theatrical cut with the theatrical ending rather than an alternate version. The theatrical ending is simply better, and has a handful of classic Ash moments. I feel like the alternative ending is more of an interesting curiosity, akin to the Donner Cut of Superman 2, but it shouldn't actually supplant the theatrical ending.

My first 'Cabin in the woods' movie, has to be George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead. I could hide in the Theater all day for under $2 back then. I could sneak in some lunch and grab a drink and popcorn for under $3 and hide out in a theater all day. I went to the movies to see The Five Deadly Venoms every weekend for 3 months that years. I was big into Kungfu movies as a kid. Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon and 36th Chamber of Shaolin, etc. I think I seen those movies more than a dozen times before I saw Star Wars for the 1st time. After seeing a movie I would jump from theater to theater. There was only 4 theaters and the way they were set up it was easy to theater-hop as a kid. I knew better than to piss off anyone. I behaved myself and the staff seemed to not give me any notice. So I would watch the same movies over and over. What got me to watch 'Night of the Living Dead' was the rating. I'm not sure why, but the theater rated it X, not R. So I went in thinking I was going to see some boobies and was left wanting. Still, it was a fun movie. I did get my first boobies in the movie Halloween. It could be why that movie holds a special place in my heart and why I liked horror movies as a kid.

RLYtoxic

I hope they eventually get around to Ash vs Evil Dead, such a great series.

Jacob King

Such a fun movie. My favourite bit of the reaction was when George said he should strap a knife to his stump. The cabin in the woods trope is pretty old. It works because isolated cabins are naturally scary and they are a cheap location to shoot your low budget exploitation movie that justifies your minimal cast. In literature it’s a big part of the American gothic tradition, Poe and Lovecraft and Ambrose Bierce all used it. I recommend Bierce’s The Spook House for an example. Robert Frost even wrote a cabin in the woods poem called The Witch of Coos. Gothic horror is all about the return of the (repressed)past. In European gothic literature that means the medieval; haunted castles, ancient family curses, vampires, etc., that’s why it’s called “gothic” but in the Americas the past is much more recent and far less impressive. Our ancestors lived in mountain cabins, isolated farmhouses and pioneer huts on the edges of vast frontiers. The past that returns reflects their hidden crimes. It’s the same concept twisted by history and geography. I’m going to second everyone requesting you watch Ash vs The Evil Dead (and also The Night of The Living Dead).

Opti_Frog

I completely disagree. The alternate ending, which is actually the ORIGINAL ending, fits the character of Ash much, much better and is so much more satisfying and funny. The theatrical ending is fine, but it's nothing special.

David N

I still find the least likely thing to happen in this movie is him starting a chainsaw with his teeth.

TheSentry77

I'm so happy you loved this one! Like many people, I'm not a big fan of remakes, but as others will attest, despite it's more serious nature, the 2013 remake is honestly a very worthy successor. Good cast, great gore, plenty of gnarly moments, seriously worth the watch!

Victoria Davis

I knew two sisters one Bobby jo and the other billy jo

PickettsChargingPort

Ok. Now that you've seen this. Go back and watch Bruce Campbell's cameo in the second doctor strange movie.

Odd Thomas

Wasn't Hansel and Gretel the original cabin in the woods? Probably a story passed down since long before that even.
