Fun sequel but still think the first one is much more simple and focused. The third one is a big mixed bag to say the least. Also Imhotep running up and screaming has been one of my go to unintentionally hilarious moments in films since this came out and my mates could never understand why it tickled me haha. You can unfortunately see the actor’s foot in the corner of the frame waiting for his cue to scream if you pause it haha. Glad you both found it as funny as I always have 🤙🏻

Doug Shore

still a great popcorn movie. has one of my all time favorite soundtracks.

Poor Arnold Vosloo. He got saddled with so much over the top, corny physical stuff in these movies. (Unrelated but this is where I note that I always thought he would have been a perfect Lex Luthor.)

Guillermo Antonio Ricci Alvarez

The CGI did look that bad in theaters...I remember waiting something great and then seeing that bad CGI(and I don't usually care about bad CGI). It seems they didn't have enough reference from the Rock's face which explains the bad CGI, but they could have try to get more. The third movie was bad as even Rachel Weisz didn't come back as she didn't like the script, and The Scoprion King is ok but not something we could consider good...the sequels are just bad direct to tv movies

Jonathan Ly

awesome! also, i'd probably just stop here in terms of the franchise and the reboot lol.

Has george ever painted his body with a golden bikini in real life? Because its workin'

Alexrandom

First one is a good fun film. This one is bad but at least it's fun :)

And apropos Vosloo, this is where I recommend Hard Target (1993), by John Woo and starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. Several reviewers have mentioned they would have preferred a movie focused on the two villains, played by Lance Henriksen and Arnold Vosloo.

Happy Hanukkah

Not only that, but he's rocking that supermodel pout. Nonetheless, I'm too distracted by the bad CGI Yul Brynner next to him.

1:18 "Sharing is caring." :-) I am indirectly inspired to once again recommend The 13th Warrior (1999), by John McTiernan and Michael Crichton. Oh, and Adebisi lives!

Rob Church

This movie is pure schlock but it's fun, especially after a few drinks.

God George you're so annoying!!, hehe just kidding, you be yourself, that's why we watch, don't listen to the negative comments...

To answer the Egyptology question, yes this IS like when Hollywood movies scatter dragons and random Chinese iconography throughout their films set in Asia. A lot of the individual words and names reference real things, but completely divorced from their original meanings: "Imhotep" is the name of a real person, but the historical figure has no association with mummification, any sort of rebellion or murder of a pharaoh, or being cursed in death. He lived more than 1,500 years before the "ancient" time period of these films, and is associated with Djoser instead of Seti I (Although, like Imhotep, there was a real Seti I). He's also credited with designing the very first step pyramid (But that is....questionable) so the Egypt of his time wouldn't have been a land of already-existing vast stone temples and palaces. For the original 1932 film they chose the name "Imhotep" pretty much at random, and so it stuck. The rest of it is in the same vein, with the names of beings and places often being plucked from history, but in the wrong roles. Except for "The Scorpion King", which is wholly fictional and not even tangentially based on truth. Although I will admit to having a soft spot for the first spin-off. It's got the cheesy charm.

Felreign

I second that on the Scorpion King, wonderfully cheesy movie, great action and stunts, good fun

Opti_Frog

The first Mummy had its tongue firmly placed in its cheek. The Mummy Returns' tongue flails around aimlessly as the movie throws more and more stupid set-pieces at the audience. Absolute trash.

A Red Mage Named Blue

Personally I enjoyed the third movie, for much the same reasons I enjoyed the second. yes, they're technically bad, but they're also goofy fun

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Personally I think the third movie is more fun than the second, flaws aside. Only thing missing is Rachel Weisz, even though Maria Bello’s a fantastic actress in her own right (The Cooler, etc).

Jason Dreibeblis

No, I wouldn’t watch the third one, Rachel Weisz wasn’t able to come back, and her presence is SORELY missed. The chemistry between her and Rick and her and Jonathan was a big part of why these first two movies work so well.

Teyon Alexander

The choice to make his face purely in CG was just a bad call. Even back then it didn't hold up.

Jordan Barnes

So glad they never made a third one in the series. These two are classics, and I’ve enjoyed them both immensely since childhood. The scene with the mummy children used to scare the shit out of me though.

Joe

Unfortunately they did make a third one, or are you trying to forget that one ever happened? Because if so, I don't blame you.

Dom

What third movie? There is no third movie. Riiiiiiiight?

Dom

Lo, There do I see my Father, and Lo, there do I see my Mother, Lo, There do I see my Brothers and my Sisters Lo, There do I see my people back to the begining, Lo they do call to me, and Bid me take my place among them in the halls of Valhalla, Where the brave will live forever
