Denzel this week. Bruce next week? Gonna be a manly man couple weeks!

Kasa

Cool cool cool

djKENTO

woke up at 4am not feeling great, just got done smoking an enormous blunt and BOOM suddenly your reaction to my 2nd favorite Tony Scott movie is up. Let’s goooooo!!! Can’t imagine George was a fan of this editing style. Tony got really surreal in his later years when it comes to editing. He also started listening to a LOT of edm and it permeates his last few movies like this, Domino, Deja Vu and even his train movie Unstoppable.

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Weddings are same for me: love the people it’s celebrating, would rather talk to the wall than small talk strangers without an open bar there. The most memorable experience was There’s Something About Mary-ing myself with my zipper but getting a $300 blazer stuck in it that had to be cut out thirty minutes before the reception started 😅😂

jackers

Guys, speaking of Christopher Walken. "Catch Me if You Can". Also, Leo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks directed by Steven Spielberg. Like...come on.

PIG

Some of the soundtrack was from NIN :)

Monica Alarcon

Longest intro EVER... and I loved every second of it...

Johnny Liu

I’m all here for the super long intros lol

Jihad Lee

TBR Schmitt did Man on Fire last week with his wife and now Cinebinge with Man on Fire this week. I’m so spoiled

ThePVO

Gotta admit, I was kinda hoping you guys would mess up and do the original.

Richard Flores

Haven't even finished the intro, had to pause so I could try to find someone who sells an adult onesie with footies, a hood, and a buttflap. [Edit] Not really a wedding story, more of a situational reinforcement. First ever wedding I went to on purpose, his family came from Philly, her family was local but I was gonna be stationed somewhere else in two months. Full social anxiety cause almost everyone's new and there's nothing to build and they didn't even cut the cake yet and drinking didn't help and I'm calling a cab and just ghosting out. Ugh.

djKENTO

GREAT reaction. Really appreciate the opening 30 minutes of the reaction with Simone being honest about that wedding. Love when y’all share what’s up. After the little discussion about Walker at the end during the credits I wanted to recommend the Bruce Willis vs Christopher Walker gangster/samurai/gun opera film LAST MAN STANDING. One of my favorite Bruce Willis flicks and Walken is TERRIFYING in it.

Jay Davis

You can kinda sorta see Robert De Niro play this role if you watch Ronin (1998).

Travis

Hell yea this movie is so fucking good!!

Spacedone

It's a good movie but I just can't watch it because of that hyperactive editing style.

Chase Schleich

While we're talking about Denzel, I've got to recommend "John Q." Another Denzel film he did around the same time as "Man on Fire." It's all about the US health care system and just how truly fucked up it is. Ties in to Breaking Bad because of similar topics.

Martin

Okay, something I learned today: Dave Grohl does an amazing Christopher Walken impersonation.

Ballsac McGee

Recommendations: Pig (2021), Blue Ruin (2013), Green Room (2015), Social Network (2010), Possessor (2020), REC (2007), Audition (1999), Inside (2007), Taking Shelter (2011), Bone Tomahawk (2015), Raw (2016), Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019). Black Swan (2010), Her (2013), Under the Skin (2013), Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005), The Wrestler (2008), World's Greatest Dad (2009), Eighth Grade (2018), The Invisible Man (2020), The Clovehitch Killer (2018), Peanut Butter Falcon (2019).

Logan Kerlee

Ohhhhhhh!! I'm EXCITED to watch this finally! I've been requesting this for some time. :)

Chase Schleich

Just became legal here in Ohio this week! I haven't smoked weed in years (it makes my joints hurt.... yeah it's weird), but I'm definitely going to try edibles as soon as the shops start popping up.

REDR58

Huge wedding ceremonies (like the one my sister had for her first, brief marriage), like children, are best avoided. Anyway, speaking of another remake also directed by Tony Scott and starring Denzel Washington such as this film, first check out the 1974 film “The Taking of Pelham One Two Three” starring Robert Shaw and then the 2009 remake “The Taking of Pelham 123” with Denzel Washington and John Travolta

Christopher Feiertag

I didn´t expect to like Simone more than I already do. But she admitting to distaste small talk proved me wrong.

John

Another great Denzel movie is the Pelican Brief

Prof. Writhms

Denzel can make a movie with him flying a kite for 2 hours and it will be good.

John

Sorry, a Tony Scott/Denzel collaboration you would like is Crimson Tide

Odd Thomas

The best Denzel movie imo. So good.

Odd Thomas

If I had to go to a wedding now and I had my own room I would totally just go sit in it and be ok alone. Or I'd be like Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine, just sitting at the edge of the group eating cake and talking to a cat.

G B

Probably the best acting role of Marc Anthony, Pita’s father, who's actually a legendary Puerto Rican Salsa singer.

Odd Thomas

Another good Dakota Fanning movie: War of the Worlds (2005)

Raven Dark

Listening to your intro and afterthoughts before watching the film itself, because I'd never seen it and wanted to see if you guys liked it or if I would like it first. I had things I wanted to say now because if I wait until I see the film, I might forget. First, I know exactly what George means about Tom Cruise not working in this, even without having seen it, just because of the kind off movie it is. He would be too distracting. Tom Cruise would be too Tom Cruise being the most Tom Cruise-iest, You guys haven't seen I Am Legend, have you? If you can't see Will Smith being the lead in this, watch I Am Legend. You might change your mind after that. As far as weddings, I've only been to one, and it was awful. Not at all what you'd think of when you imagine a wedding at all. The wedding was in a small church, but in a tiny room that wasn't done up or decorated at all. The "bar" was bears out of a cooler, with a limit of two each, and they were warm. The coffee was burned. The food was--and I kid you not--cheese and crackers. It fit more with a wedding done through a justice of the peace, but it wasn't. The bride wore an ugly old dress that only fit the occasion by being white, and the groom wore a suit that looked like it came straight out of a bad seventies sitcom. It looked like he pulled it out of his closet after twenty years of never wearing it, and barely fit him. Super strange. Like George, I'm all for non-traditional weddings that are different or unusual, but that was just odd. Like, put some effort into it. It left me scratching my head afterwards. I looked at my boyfriend at the time on the way home and literally said, "So, that happened." Okay, one more thing. As soon as George said he wants all his friends to dress up as superheroes at his wedding, a thought invaded my brain and now it won't leave me alone until I say it. My apologies in advance. I see him at some party one day, and a cute woman starts talking to him. They get on the topic of weddings and why weddings are the way they are. Then she gets up to leave, and she turns and smiles at him this adorable smile. Woman: For my wedding, I'm dressing up as Wonder Woman. People are just going to have to deal with it. George: I'm going to marry her one day. The intro to this is the stuff I live for, guys. Can't wait to watch this reaction in full.

Logan Kerlee

You're not alone on the social battery Simone! Mine runs out quick, too! I can be happy/cheerful/joyous for a celebration but only to a point! lmao, fuck you George! xD Not everyone gets down with talking with so many people. xD You're awesome Simone! Don't let them make you feel bad. hahahaha, not everyone vibes with everybody else - that's just how it goes. lol, yeah! Bringing the government into it all is frustrating. It's just one of the necessaries though. :/ Okay - so this movie's one of my FAVORITES! It's so friggin' great! I'm a little disappointed that George didn't know/mention that sound bit at the start! I mean, it's clearly Nine Inch Nails! xD But hey, different generation, different interests in music. lol, you'll both learn what they've done here in a bit! This movie is fucking WILD! Creasy is so damn great. Love that Creasy's honest. Oh, the father is the bad guy in this. He's a coward. Pita's so sweet! I love the actress that was chosen to play her in this. Dakota Fanning grew to become a decent actress as well. This is by far my favorite with her in it though! Pita is a cutie, yeah, Simone! :) No - no, he isn't that bad of a dude. He's just a bad guy who deserves what's coming his way later on in the film. Pita's a character that we grow to love in this. Creasy, too - he's awesome. :) I'm glat that George recognized that he didn't intend to be mean there. I feel that's important. No, George - Creasy's not okay. He's a tortured soul 100%. I mean, look at what he just did after you said that. Putting his gun to his head and pulling the trigger, I mean. Creasy was ready to die then and there. Accepting of it. Creasy's great, like I said! His interactions with Pita are sweet! Bonding 100%!! lol, don't worry Simone! Doggo lives in this one. :P lmao, I love that you both know what means. Don't worry about this! Creasy has a great suggestion! I love it. hahaha, the belching's so simple and amazing. xD I'm glad you both are having this reaction! hahahaha, I've watched this with some people and they totally didn't respond that well. Yeah - no - Creasy gets shot nearly to death in this scene. This shit is tragic as hell. That - yeah, and the screams are totally crazy as well. lol - that's good George. Offering your booty for grabs in order to save children. Nice guy George. :) He wasn't hospitalized for that long. Remember a couple scenes ago they said that if he doesn't take it easy, he'll die? That was to show that he got up and out of the hospital far too soon. Revenge and rescue - but yeah, revenge will be a big part of this. The upcoming scenes are very brutal and I love it. THE SOUNDTRACK FOR THIS MOVIE IS SO DAMN IMPRESSIVE! Ah! I love hearing it. :) Each of the songs in this are so well placed and fit the scenes so perfectly. LOVE that you both reacted right as the music changed! Fuck yeah! xD Great job in this! :) lol - glad you both are cool with him now. xD He's cool for sure. We'll get to see him do his work. This is so damn enjoyable to watch. Yes, its' brutal. Yes, it's fucked up. Bottom line, it's deserved. These scenes get very brutal. You're right on the money with that George! That's why the scene cuts back to her and everything else so many times throughout the scene. "A meal best served cold" is what was said there George. Talking about revenge, obviously. They did an amazing job making this, yeah. The moving text along the screen is fantastic! It keeps the scenes emotional and engaging. It's good that you're both remembering that. That he's doing all of this while being extremely injurured. Christopher Walken's character is awesome. I love how well he knows Creasy. I'm always so damn excited watching that scene! "Creasy's art is death." Everyone gets what's coming to them in this movie. Another reason why I really like this! Nobody gets away with anything. If they had any part in the abduction of Pita - they get what's coming to them! This movie does not disappoint. His booty's going to go BOOM! lmao, and yeah - totally counts as a man on fire. xD Glad that you're not disappointed by this Simone! Pita's kidnapping is jarring, 100%! Without that happening our emotional vulnrability wouldn't exist so it makes sense why it happened. Dakota Fanning's character Like I said, her father is terrible. He got what was coming to him. That reporter was very brave to do that yeah. lol, it's good that you're preparing yourself for that George. Creasy's a machine of vengeance! Denzel does a phenomenal job playing this role! I haven't fininshed watching the reaction yet but I strongly hope that you both wind up enjoying this. This one's a favorite of mine for a reason. It's good that you both recognize what's going to happen to Creasy. That's something that movies don't always do - more or less announce that hero's going to die. I mean, yeah it happens but usually in movies it'll be a surprise kind of thing. That would be excellent, wouldn't it George? Having him detonate a bomb killing each of them, including himself. Unfortunately though, that isn't what's happening. lmao, no! This is not based on true events. The end was just to sum things up for us, the audience. Quite the movie, INDEED! HEY, NOW! Plenty of people were good. Pita's nanny that works in her house is great as well! She's a sweet woman. The tone is AMAZING, I feel! Dakota Fanning did an INCREDIBLE job playing Pita! She was adorable, genuine and ideal. I can't imagine anybody else playing Creasy. Washington played the role so well and he fit it. You could feel what his character felt and actually felt for him and understood his actions throughout the movie. When this came out, Tom Cruise hadn't played in all of the Mission Impossible films aside from the first. So he wasn't as huge of a figure at the time. Okay - wrapping this up - LOVED THIS REACTION! Holy crap, it was so much fun to watch this with you both. Whoever chose to watch this - thank you! :)

Logan Kerlee

A lot of it was! Oh man, each time I hear The Great Below or The Wretched I'm transported back to watching this movie. I remember watching it for the first time with an amazing friend of mine, Chris. He got me started with listening to Nine Inch Nails. I love that guy! :) Such great memories! :)

Logan Kerlee

I love the editing done with this movie! I understand that it can be a bit jarring but it's also very entertaining and I feel that it's expressive as well.

Logan Kerlee

lmao, I knew about that scene but I haven't watched in ages! I'm very happy that it was mentioned. :)

Logan Kerlee

I agree. Not only because of Denzel's acting but the movie itself is pretty damn top tier as well. Everyone in it plays so well off of each other.

8bitAndy

Check out I Am Sam for another movie where young Dakota Fanning shines.

Richard

Denzel is too good. You should also check out Fallen and Out of Time

Odd Thomas

Denzel made some other good movies with Tony Scott: Deja Vu and Unstoppable. Not as good as Man on Fire, which I consider Scott's masterpiece, but fun popcorn movies. Speaking of De Niro disappearing into roles, I recommend Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994). People forget he was in that movie because he was so unrecognisable, but it's my second favourite role of his after Heat. As for Christopher Walken, two films I would recommend are Batman Returns and Sleepy Hollow (though he only has a small part in the latter)

Eddy V Ruiz II

The reason the soundtrack is similar to Gladiator is Lisa Gerard. She was part of a band in the 80s and 90s called Dead Can Dance. Most of their music is exactly like this. A Passage in Time is like their best of type CD thing. If you want really emotional rip your heart out music give them a try. My personal favorite album from them is Aion. She is also responsible for the last song in the Mist. Also, the rest of the songs (the Spanish ones) in the movie are really good if you speak Spanish.

W T

"You expected alone time when you went to a wedding" See, that's where I expected George to go "oh yeah, that makes sense speaking for the greater Chinese culture" - I've been to more Chinese and Taiwanese weddings than any other and especially the bigger ones accommodate precisely those who need a nap or a time-out, with dedicated relaxation rooms and EVERYTHING. Want to smoke and play cards? Sure. Want to make your new Chinese homies pronounce funni swears by transliterating your native language using common Characters? Have at it. Now that I think about it, other cultures definitely do that too. I mean, not if it's just an evening, but it doesn't seem awfully outlandish to me from what I've seen. Also just a great idea in general, having a place for people to withdraw to.

W T

And a whole weekend vs. just a long-ass day most definitely warrants not wanting to be surrounded by strangers at all times, that's not even up for debate in my book of adult conveniences I'd like to see, lol

Steve kephart

I love this movie. But my favorite Denzel Washington movie is Book of Eli. You guys should do that movie at some time.

Onno Smits

I always interpreted the scene so that Creasy was only shot twice during the kidnapping. The last two shots are just replays of the second shot, seemed like the glitchy editing, maybe a bit of a confusing decision. Reminds me a bit of John Woo. Plus the gunshot at the end of the movie, is three times in total. But maybe I'm wrong.

akaTheBARON

🖤I love it when we get the occasional cat purring from time to time. In this one, it came at a tense moment so it was nice. 😻

T__K8

Wow i forgot how crazy (and slightly disorientating) the editing style of this movie was. Still a really good movie, and great performances all round. As a few others have mentioned, Deja Vu (2006) is another Tony Scott/Denzel Washington combo that was an enjoyable watch imo. Story a bit hollywoody, but exciting nonetheless.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

I feel like this movie has a real David Fincher feel to it, partly because of the editing style, reminds me of Seven, which I love, but also because there's so much Nine Inch Nails in the soundtrack, which I also love. A lot of the music is from Further Down The Spiral and The Fragile. You guys gotta check out True Romance one of these days, that's probably my favorite Tony Scott movie (Tarantino script, somewhat altered), Walken has a small but memorable part in that. Crimson Tide is great too, Denzel's in that. Also, about this movie, some Mexican journalists are among the bravest anywhere, they're routinely murdered for going against the cartels, and they still do it.

Robinson vs. Parkinson's

After hearing Simone's wedding weekend story, I think it's time for you guys to watch Wedding Crashers.

Tony E Crumpton

Yeah, he got shot twice during the kidnapping. Scott's later style and editing often repeat scenes and will show them from various angles, for impact.

Orphan Crippler

First time watching this and I really enjoyed it.. Except for the editing.. My god.. that was absolutely abysmal.. I almost had an epileptic fit.. And I don't even have epilepsy.

Scott Elsasser

Fantastic film, one of the best revenge films of all time. George you're not completely off base with the C4 idea, when he bought the guns in the first place there were 2 "Chargers" in the bunch. Look on youtube for the alternate ending. Been waiting for you guys to watch this one for a long time. Amazing Review well done indeed!

BlindPanda

Does Simone believe that chickens are killed right after they lay eggs for the eggs benni? Lol

Patrick

I have a family friend whose father was a body guard for Bobby Kennedy (Bill Barry was his name) when he was assassinated. RFK went against his advice when they were in a crowded area, and got shot. There's only so much you can do. To my understanding, he never really forgave himself and went into the drink and depression afterwards.

Brad Lowry

I knew I'd seen the Mom before. Check out "High Art" to see a VERY different role for Radha Mitchell, and a VERY different role for Ally Sheedy (than Wargames). Also an amazing performance by one of my favorite actresses, Patricia Clarkson.

Gary Kuhre

I am with Simone......Can I just come and go as I need for my mental health without judgement please.
