Aye let’s go!!!!

Michael

I went to Marshall High School, this movie is wildly inaccurate. However I still love it and can't wait to get home from work and watch it with you guys.

Jared Winn

One of my favorites growing up. Probably seen it two or three dozen times because of public schools only being able to show PG movies and living in North Carolina meant it was heavy in the rotation of substitute teachers.

Shane Driscoll

Fun fact: the real life Titans utterly dominated the competition right out of the gate and the final game was an absolute blowout. But, Hollywood being Hollywood, they rewrote it into an underdog story where it all comes down to the very last touchdown.

JayF

It's a good movie but I think there are better sports movies out there that cover the same topic (42 for instance). I'd love to see reactions to Miracle, Cinderella Man, Rudy, Hoosiers, and A League of Their Own for inspirational sports movies.

Anonymous

I knew George was gonna be confused by how big high school football is in the US. Yeah, it's as big as college or NFL in many parts of the country. I'd say mostly in the south, I grew up in the North East and it wasn't as important as it is in the South.

Jihad Lee

Another Fun Fact: That team was so good because they integrated more than just 2 high schools. They integrated about 4 high schools if I can remember correctly. They won State and never won after that because all the other teams integrated aswell. Coach Boone was known as being too disciplinary and that’s what made him get fired. Like extremely too hard on the players. The movie gives you a taste of it but it was wayyyy worse and of course they dumbed it down because of Disney.

Shane Driscoll

lol. I'd wager that substitute teachers drove the bulk of home video sales for most PG "inspired by true events" type films.

REDR58

Hoosiers for sure. I think it’s easier to follow for non-sports fans.

Astraeos

Also, if you think American High Schools are insanely competitive or whatever in sports, just take a look at Japanese High Schools, in terms of everything. Uber competitive, to an insane level. The animes almost aren't even exaggerating when they show Japanese High Schools.

REDR58

Don’t forget about The Equalizer 2 as the third once just came out on video recently. It’s a really good and 3 is even better.

Vwlss Nvwls

You can never go wrong with Denzel Washington movies. I cannot think of one that I have not enjoyed, even if just because of him. On a different note, I hope all goes well with your soon to be move, George. I am currently trying to pack to move in with my brother in San Diego, and moving is zero fun, especially when you have lived in your house for almost 30 years like I have. Good Luck.

Vwlss Nvwls

The difference in tiers (double A and triple A) is the size of the school. It is assumed that the more students in a school, the more likely they will be better and have more resources for sports.

E. D.

The little girl is Hayden Panettiere.

Jared Winn

When the players are shouting out words and numbers they are calling audibles. They have the play that they call in the huddle but as the get ready they see what the other side is doing/how they’re lined up and change certain aspects. Guy is rushing from the left so block him or they aren’t lined up for a pass so you go this way now, as examples. The chess of it all is then calling fake audibles mixed in with real ones. That’s also why they vary the huts with the hut-huts and such so the defense doesn’t know precisely when they are snapping the ball. Shotgun formation is when the quarterback lines up three or four yards behind the line instead of right behind the offensive line. Gives them a bit more cushion from pass rushers but usually indicates it’s only a pass, especially in the 70s. If you watch the Titans formation they have Sunshine directly behind “center” because they, like probably all schools in the 70s and a lot of smaller programs even now (go Barons), are primarily a run first offense. Someone answered the AA v AAA question already. I should really write my answers down during the movie so I can help out lol

akaTheBARON

🖤I'm in the same boat as you two but in reverse. When I watched your reaction to season 1 of The Wire (looking forward to starting season 2 soon btw) and I saw the actor who played Avon Barksdale I thought "Hey it's Julius from Remember The Titans" and in your case, you're watching Remember The Titans and when you saw the same actor you were like "Hey it's Avon Barksdale from The Wire!" XD

Tay Schumaker

Fun movie but wildly historically inaccurate

MatthewBrown74m

Great movie and very first Denzel Washington film. But you in the movie when they went to camp in reality there really wasn't much racial tension with the team it was more Competition then any also Ray character all fiction In fact if there was gut like that on their team they would have kicked him out of it lol

Ian Forbes

Simone’s reaction to the Orange Julius joke explanation was hilarious! So glad I wasn’t drinking my water at the time. As for the Shotgun formation, it’s when the quarterback is a few yards behind the line of scrimmage and they snap the ball back to him, allowing him more time/field of vision to survey the field and hopefully make a good pass.

Paul G

Disney has actually done a whole bunch of sports related movies along the same lines as this one: Glory Road, The Greatest Game Ever Played, Miracle, The Rookie, McFarland USA, Invincible, Secretariat plus a whole bunch of Mighty Ducks movies. I recommend both Miracle (2004) and The Greatest Game Ever Played (2005) - both are in your wheelhouse.

Chase Schleich

Been trying not to watch the 3rd because I know as soon as I do, they'll watch 2 and 3 within a week lol

JokerDanny

please react to Grease and Sweeney Todd. 2 fantastic musicals.

Terry Yelmene

Football is a game. The game is just a game. (and you don't need to know much about it) BUT, this MOVIE... THIS MOVEIE... one of the greatest of all time... it's about the resilience and power of humanity And THAT is why EVERYONE REMEMBERS THE TITANS!!!

Christopher

if you are looking for another fun movie with Donald Faison I would recommend Can't Hardly Wait.

REDR58

Another non-Equalizer or action movie type Denzel Washington film you two might wanna look at is Much Ado About Nothing from 1993. It’s a comedy based on Shakespeare’s play. Don’t look at the IMDb for it either!

John

This is a great movie, a potential poll with some Denzel movies would be legal movies with Philadelphia, The Pelican Brief, The Firm, Snow Falling on Cedars, and To Kill a Mockingbird

Dr Ozzy

I couldn’t believe they didn’t notice haha. She looks exactly the same as a kid.

Patrick

High School football is MUCH more popular in the Southern US than it is up North. Same with college. It mainly has to do with when it was introduced. First high school game was in 1875, first college game (Princeton v Rutgers) was only a handful of years earlier. Professional football didn't start until 50 years later.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Holy hell, I forgot, you guys haven't seen Glory yet. Seeing the scene with Denzel and the team at that Civil War battlefield reminded of that movie, a must see. Yeah my dad was a huge jock in high school in the sixties, football, wrestling, basketball, track, he even played tennis lol. And his coaches were all like casually racist ex Marine Drill Instructors haha, but it was that thing where the Mexican kids were tolerated as long as they knew their place. Sports in the US is considered character building and some people take it VERY seriously, even when it's little kids playing, yeah I don't get it either. I remember driving through some small towns in Texas or Oklahoma for instance, on a Friday night, little towns with a Main Street, a water tower, and a big ass football stadium for the local high school team, whole town would be there watching them play the local rivals, businesses would shut down for the games.

Shelley Lloyd

I don't know if anyone has explained it yet, but the shotgun is when the quarterback lines up a few yards from the center and they pitch (hike) the ball back to him. That was still a fairly new concept at the time and was really only seen in the NFL -- hence the New York Jets joke -- the more usual formation was what we saw of Rev and Sunshine where they lined up directly behind (or over in football terms) the center and was just handed the ball. The advantage of the shotgun is that the quarterback isn't scrambling backward immediately in order to make a pass the way Rev and Sunshine were having to do. So, it gives the quarterback the chance to make big down-the-field throws more often. Lining up over center, however, makes for smoother handoffs to the running back. The shotgun allows for the wide receivers to shine because you are (hopefully) throwing deep balls for them to go up and get.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

George Carlin did a great bit about the difference between football and baseball. Football is basically warfare, every play is a battle to conquer enemy territory. It comes from Rugby but the main innovation that makes it a completely different sport is the forward pass, it is kind of difficult to explain it without an hour of time to spare lol, but it is an interesting sport once you figure out what the hell's going on.

Andrew

Yeah, I grew up in Norman, Oklahoma, where college football is more important than religion. And that's the Bible Belt, lol. Couldn't go anywhere in public on game night without hearing, "Boomer!" "Sooner!"

Patrick

As a football fan, that's still too complicated for someone who doesn't know the rules haha

Patrick

Yeah, it's basically warfare. Every single play is designed and you're trying to anticipate what the other person will do, and trick them. I get why people don't like it, it's violent. But it's probably the most complicated sport out there in terms of how many moving pieces you need to work together. It also has the most confusing set of rules which seem to change every few years.

JamesJ

The Greatest Game Ever Played is so good. Makes golf interesting even to those who know nothing about it.

JoshG

It’s another movie that deals with terrible issues but I hope you guys can react to “A Time to Kill”. It’s a really great movie with a really great performance by Matthew Mcconaughey

Crunkljack

Do yourself a favor and look up Ethan Suplee (big guy), now. A real inspiration. He's JACKED!

Logan Kerlee

I'm going to enjoy this reaction, you two! This is a very happy movie. :) 68 is dinosaur age, Simone! xD I've NEVER done that before George! xD Gonna have to try it out, George! This movie IS NOT what you'll be expecting, you two. I'm disappointed that neither of you recognized Hayden Panettiere! The difference is size of school and funding for each time as a result. AAA team has more funding than AA schools. This movie's fantastic and very emotionally impacting. I fucking LOVE the acting in this movie. Highschool sports are HUGE here in America George. lol, I love the humor in this! lol, I love that you two both don't know anything about american football. It's kind of a bummer that you both don't know about this sport but at the same time it's charming that you're both giving this an attempt. I won't ever pretend to understand racism and I'll certainly never accept it. American teams have offensive and defensive coordinators but there's still the head coach who oversees everything. As a crippled guy this scene really hits me in the feels. I'm happy that he's showing courage through this but this is something that OBVIOUSLY changes things for a person and team. Here's the basic difference between normal plays and Shotgun plays. In normal plays, the Center tosses the ball right behind them to the QB so they can run the play. In Shotgun formations, they're a little bit behind them, providing more space to run their play. This has some advantages along with some disadvantages. I won't go super in detail because neither of you have a deep interest in the game, but that's the difference between a normal pass play and a Shotgun pass play. xxxCxxx QB xxxCxxx QB lmao, those are them calling plays, yeah. Each player on the team has those playcalls memorized, so they know what their QB means when he says "Blue 42" or "Red 39" or anything else. They did a great job with this movie! I'm very happy that you both enjoyed this despite you both not knowing a thing about the game! xD The two girls getting along really makes me happy, yeah! lol, it was very nice seeing how they interacted with each other. lol, sorta like a nerdy dude chilling with a jock type guy. After finishing this, I've gotta say - this reaction really made me feel happy. Thank you both for watching this! :)

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

I'll take this opportunity to request some smaller films that deserve love.. I really really hope some future polls just focus on small films without big tentpole or big mainstream hits..so there can be more small film love on the channel - Promising Young Woman (2020) - An Education (2009) - Never Let Me Go (2010) Note: These happen to all be Carey Mulligan films..but she is great so...was a good time to pump her films up...all of them great in their own way

Lyonheart86(BryonH)

RUDY ! .lol sorry cant help it . Everyone should watch rudy once in their life...field of dreams too. .also.. George said something interesting about one of the characters. He had a certain theory. I wont say what the theory was .. or whiuch character...but he would be VERY interested in Disney's Miracle with kurt russel

Foggy

i don't like watching football, i don't understand anything about the game, but man i love football movies lol and this one is my favorite

Cristian Garcia

Unfortunately, Sheryl also died pretty young at age 34 from a heart condition. 4 years before the movie.

BangDroid

Wow! The soundtrack to this movie is sooo good omg

Noe Ramirez

Disney has a whole live action section of dramatic movies like these. A lot of them are pretty cheesy but they're gems like this one and Miracle! Hopefully y'all watch that one too! Maybe with it being Hockey you'll actually know the sport. Lol

jmundt33a

A lot of those Disney sports films post 2000 are pretty good.

Habman

Just so you know I met the real Coach Boone at a Junior Achievement Banquet. I asked him how much the movie was real. He told me it was 95 percent true.

jimmy2k4o .

“History is written by the winners” is an ironic quote because it was said by Herman Güring regarding the Nuremberg war crimes trials held after the nazis surrendered. The fact his quote has survived so well despite him being one of the losers, proves him wrong.

jimmy2k4o .

Great recommendation but worth remembering that “A time to kill” is a fictional story based on a novel and remember the titans is a true story.

Odd Thomas

First time watch for me and I loved it. Some other great Denzel movies: The Pelican Brief Philadelphia Glory Unstoppable Some other great sports movies: The Natural (best baseball movie imo) A League of Their Own The Rookie (2002) Cool Runnings The Worlds Fastest Indian
