Ted Lasso: Season 2 - Episode 1 - 3 - Patreon Version

djKENTO

I have been having a ROUGH week and this is exactly what I need right now.

Mark McKeown

omgz WheRE iS brEAKinG bAd?!? /s

Clinton Brown

Why no Breaking Bad ??? WTF! I'm just kidding lol

Onno Smits

I'm so fuckin' psyched to get into this later tonight!

Julian Calzada

Oh, hell yeah, now we talking, cant wait!

Andi Herr

Lol. I literally just cancelled my subscription because there hadn't been anything interesting to me for a while. Looks like I'm back! :D

Mathew Hill

I would probably never have watched Ted Lasso if you hadn't been putting it on between Breaking Bad seasons, and now after bingeing the first series I just can't wait to watch more distilled kindness and enthusiasm with you!

Jessi

Omg yay!!!

Zoe Hart

The "yips" are a mental condition that needs to be treated as such - especially since what Danni experienced was a real trauma to him and could lead to depression if left untreated. So them just chalking Dannis' problem up to having the "yips" is an kinda mocking her profession which is why she called it out. I agree with Sharon on this one.

Tenn Seven

It really threw me for a loop when Ted and Keeley teamed up with the owner of Nando's chicken to distribute their crystal meth.

Dee Aitch

What a nice surprise, I had no idea y'all were going to finish the show.

Pam Nail

Yeah, Dr. Sharon is frosty, but she's absolutely right about the "yips." It's not about respecting someone not liking to hear it. The "yips" are a real thing and treating it like a superstition trivializes it instead of dealing with it. It was weird to me too that Ted just brought Jamie back without warning anyone. But he wasn't lying to Sam -- even though I'm sure that's what it seems like to Sam. Ted was not intending to bring Jamie back until *after* his talk with Sam. You can use your phone with gloves if they have the thingies on the fingertips.

Pam Nail

I hadn't heard that about S2 being written before S1 was out, but it doesn't surprise me. (And of course they couldn't have anticipated how COVID would make people latch onto that first season.) I think one of the things I love about this show is that they don't tend to make story decisions based on what they think fans want; they really are telling the story they want to tell they way they want to tell it. Some fans bristled at it during the second season (and hoo boy, did people get their knickers in a twist in the third), but I really get the sense that the creators and writers wanted to make something they could look back on with pride, even if it's not everyone's cup of tea.

HeyHeyJK

I'm thrilled that Ted is back but less than thrilled that I have to wait until later tonight to watch your reactions! Have your tissues ready Simone cuz you might need them every now and then once again, and it will be interesting to see if, due to events yet to unfold, if you're going to want to go back to Breaking Bad S3 before watching S3 of TL to see how it all plays out. I know you have to watch BB first, but, jus' sayin'.

Monica Alarcon

I took my dog to the vet today and we had to put her to sleep... So I though... "hey, some Ted Lasso with Simone and George will cheer me up" then the first episode happened...

Jeff K

Yeah, to clarify one thing: they wrote a 10 episode story before season one came out. Then season one became a phenomenon, and Apple came back and asked them to add two more episodes into the mix, so there are two that were written after season one was released. But there are two kind of "bottle" episodes this season that only kinda deal with the main storylines because of that.

Brad Lowry

I love how the biggest laugh line of the entire series for a US American that follows sports, "The New York Jets", barely gets a chuckle out of our Canadian friends.

Onno Smits

As a Dutch guy, I approve of Jan Maas' brutal Dutch honesty.

Jeff K

It's amazing how well this show can be completely corny at every step, and yet it still just works because of its earnestness and how well written that cheese is. Like, the character development and redemption arcs, for example. Jamie specifically here; the Prince Prick of Pricks pretty much immediately turns himself around in episodes 2 and 3, which should absolutely not work but somehow does. On a different note: I love that the show references the show Cheers multiple times throughout the series, which is at least in part a nod to the fact that Jason Sudeikis's uncle is George Wendt, who played Norm on that show.

Princess Mia

I absolutley love dr.sharon shes one of my favourite characters

Patrick

Woooo 3 episodes per reaction, nice!! I can't wait for this reaction.

Patrick

Yeah, this is like the corniest show that I love because it's so wholesome. The timing of it coming out during the pandemic was perfect. People just wanted something happy and sweet and funny to watch.

Zoe Hart

Once they are done with Ted Lasso, I hope "The Good Place" is next. Another Must See show everybody need to watch. A show with a lot of heart just like Ted Lasso.

Zach Smith

I really enjoyed the youtube versions of these. Are you guys still planning on doing them for this season?

Brad Lowry

Dr. Sharon's favorite book, "The Prince of Tides", was made into a great movie! Indeed, all of Pat Conroy's books (that I know of) have made great movies, "The Lords of Discipline", and especially – one of my top 5 favorite movies ever – "The Great Santini". (I couldn't get into his writing, but he is lots of people's favorite author.)

Travis H

Can’t wait to watch this later! And I know it’s REALLY early to start recommending future shows to cover but I would kill (not really) for you two to cover the Netflix masterpiece American Vandal! I know there is 0 chance of that happening because very few have seen it so it probably wouldn’t have wide appeal, but it’s SO good. It’s a mockumentary about two high school kids investigating two VERY silly crimes like “Who drew the dicks?” and “Who is the Turdburglar?” So For your consideration American Vandal. And fellow patrons if you haven’t watched it please do, it’s only like 16 half hour episodes.

Terry Yelmene

Some people say Season 2 is 'lessor' but, the arc of this season is so great... I can't! Dr. Fieldstone... Nate... Ted! I just can't! Arcs. Simone and George... by the time you arrive at the end of Season 3 (the third act) you will have seen character arcs that transcend even the best of what great television has been. IMHO. 'Ted Lasso' simply sets the next higher bar.

Astraeos

Why did people hate the Wire on youtube, I don't really understand. It got a bit less views than a normal video, but I don't really see any hateful comments or anything even specifically negative on the video itself? What were you guys referring to specifically there?

Byron Abrahams

Weird aside, maybe, but Pat Conroy, Prince of Tides, really is a fantastic book. I loved the movie, but the book is just a masterpiece.

David Dotting

I would guess the engagement ratio. Ted Lasso part 1 on YouTube has over twice as many views and nearly three times the Likes. It has 160 more comments as well.

Cubonemaker

So the best way to think of the show is that it’s a three part story, each season has like an overarching theme that you will notice by the end.

Jack Burton

Rebecca is no longer trying to sink the team and the team already knew Jamie was coming back. Off-camera stuff plus an imagined 'moment' in the last season that wasn't an actual thing. No need to look for things that aren't there now.

JBirdLowdown

Oh no!!! Here's hoping for some healthy grieving, and lots of love to your family

p0sthum4n

In addition to my oft-repeated recommendations of The Sopranos, I'd like to suggest you guys consider polling Mr. Robot, probably one of the most cinematographically unique and technically accurate TV shows ever made.

Tall Paul

I assume all my fellow football fans paused after episodes 1 to watch "Maradona - Live is Life" on youtube. Impossible to hear that song and not think of El Diego.

REDR58

Professional sports should not end in ties. I can’t stand soccer and this is easily the most soccer I’ve ever watched. Still, I love this show!

Thomas

You caught on that the 1st season opened on Rebecca…but it also closed on her. Don’t forget that this season opened with Nate. Something to keep in mind 😉

Monica Alarcon

"who's Martin Short?". Do yourselves and us a favor and watch Three Amigos please...

Jeff K

I'm honestly a little surprised they don't know who he is, given 1) how famous he is and 2) he's Canadian. One of the OG Canadian comedy greats from SCTV.

Onno Smits

George mentioned in the intro that yes, the YouTube edit did well enough to warrant doing again for S02. But no timeline given, probably will be a while even after completing the season.

Charlie Calver

I always think that the view of Dr Sharon is through Ted's lense. Over time, she gets more sympathetic - even though it's shown as 3rd person, we're maybe not being shown the unbias perspective, instead Ted's preconceptions colour how she's shown to us at the start

jackers

Football is life. All over the globe. Don't hate it if you don't get it. I'm actually the opposite. Don't like this TV series but love the sport.

Denashi

Please do watch Magnolia! It is quite long, but *really* good! Also, I just realized there actually was more than one reference to it, in that episode... huh!

Jay

"i think we did actually" (lose subscribers because of The Wire YT edits) To quote John McEnroe, you cannot be serious! I can't imagine how much work that one season took, although I'm personally not that bothered if you don't continue YT edits for the TV shows. I wish yous could watch Arrested Development, It's Always Sunny, 30 Rock etc. but they're all very long series. So going to recommend The Inbetweeners again. Brilliant English sitcom, only 3 seasons, 6 episodes each that are 22-24 minutes in length (a full season would take little more time than 2 episodes of The Wire). Wouldn't take up much of this slot and trust me, yous would love it:)

Logan Kerlee

I'm very happy that you've both returned to this show! It's a fantastic one and I'm always happy to watch this. :)

Jay

I love the whole mystique around Maradona. I was in Naples a few years ago, not long before he died, and to say the people there worship him is an understatement. I can only imagine what it's like in Argentina.

Shelley Lloyd

What George was saying about if this were a movie is basically the movie(s) that inspired the character of Rebecca and her goal to destroy the club: Major League. I use Major League and Ted Lasso in my creative writing class to discuss how to use sources of inspiration without stealing from the original. Making it yours. So, in Major League, the owner wants to tank the team so she can move them to Florida because she hates Ohio but she never grows as a character and remains fundamentally selfish. But, by making Rebecca a bitter divorcee instead of a gold-digging widow, they create room for her character to grow and to heal and become a better person, unlike the owner in Major League.

lance tophoj

I have been waiting forever for this release!

Jared Winn

Love this show and I'm glad you're continuing!

MattN

so happy this came back. I love this show for two reasons... 1) they really dont drag stuff out. there are issues and the solve them. and 2) in an era where there isnt a lot of positive masculinity this show is literally packed full of it just it different versions.

Skinny_Obelix

I'm not the biggest fan of the beginning of season 2, a lot of things are set up too heavy-handed. Luckily, most arcs pick up, but it's still forced here and there.

Cubonemaker

I CANNOT WAIT for episode 5 and 8!!!!

Chris Costelloe

I guess I’m in the minority, but I prefer the YT edits. I have no interest in watching a reaction where I can’t see any of the show. This membership probably not for me.

Keen7981

Given the way US copyright and intellectual property law is, you'll probably be hard pressed to find any Patreon subscription where they just air the episode or movie whole cloth along with their reaction. As creators, that would open them up to lawsuits at the very least. Both of the react creators I subscribe to follow the watch along model like this one. You're meant to watch your own copy of whatever it is along with them.

Keen7981

My favorite thing about this show is that it almost never adheres to the almost universal story tropes we've all come to expect. The conflicts are almost never what you'd think they're "supposed" to be and it is so refreshing. By the by, if you are interested in another amazing Apple TV+ show, check out Shrinking. It's the same showrunners as Ted Lasso and is absolutely magnificent.

HeyHeyJK

Yeah, "Shrinking" was really good. Since Brett/Roy is one of the co-creators/showrunners/writers on it, I kept thinking he might pop up in an episode, but then he never did. Harrison Ford is so great in it, and I really loved Jessica Williams. Hope they get a 2nd season out soon (although the strikes probably pushed that back a bit).

HeyHeyJK

As if watching Ted Lasso alone isn't great enough, watching it with the bestest reacters ever makes it even better. Can't wait for the rest of the episodes (and seeing how many tissues Simone needs for the tears; happy and sad ones)!

Kevin Morris

Dr. Sharon’s immediate and seemingly random antagonism towards the one character who they establish as having issues with therapy seems like convenient writing. However, Ted is the manager, and she is specifically a sports psychologist. She probably has a ton of experience entering a male-dominated environment where many might not respect her profession. Especially so given her profession, it makes sense that she would have developed a very specific way of carrying herself and interacting to make the proper first impression and gain respect/access so that she can do her job effectively (she mentions later on that other managers wouldn’t let her view training).

Shonnicus

Ha! I had the song "Mr. Roboto" in my head past few days and reminisced about the show Mr. Robot. I really want to re-watch the show. Would be great for a watch along.

Logan Kerlee

Random question: Anybody on here watching or planning to watch Monarch: Legacy of Monsters?

The Film Effect

Where’s Breaking Bad?! jk. I’m patiently waiting.

james repka

Love this show, love Breaking Bad, love The Wire, and I love you guys, you are my favorite reactors by far! Episode 2 included the reference to the PT Anderson film Magnolia, and Tom Cruise's presence in it with/without a pony tail (it's with, BTW). Magnolia is among my favorite Anderson films, with a great cast (Cruise + Philip Seymour Hoffman, Julianne Moore, Wm. H Macy, and many more). I also think it's one of Tom Cruise's strongest performances in a movie. You should add it to a poll by all means. Later in the episode Rebecca is sitting in a cafe with an Aimee Mann song, Wise Up, playing in the background. This is another nod to Magnolia, as this song is featured prominently in the movie.

HeyHeyJK

I agree they would love it, but I have to push fellow SNL'er Bill Hader's show "Barry" over AV. Short seasons with 25 minute episodes and one of the greatest black comedies of all-time. Hader is SO FREAKIN' GOOD in it, not to mention all the writing and all the episodes he directed, as is character actor extraordinaire Stephen Root, and the legend that is Henry Winkler.

HeyHeyJK

Yeah, while S3 is the weakest, they're all A grade seasons, and some of the callbacks they do in the last episodes that tie in to S1 and the very first episode were so emotionally gratifying.

HeyHeyJK

I don't think I noticed it before I watched G&S's reactions, but in the first episode of S2 when Dr. Sharon first sees Danny and leads Ted out of her office, we see it from outside as she starts to shut the door, then it cuts to Ted as the door closes on him, just like the final shot of "The Godfather". Brilliant moment and I don't for a second believe it wasn't intentional, especially given Brett Goldstein's cinephile status (his podcast 'Films to be Buried With' is great) and Jason is a pretty heavy cinephile, as well.

HeyHeyJK

Is "Arrested Development" that long? I can't remember how many episodes there are each season (and I"m only referring to S1-3); I just remember how freaking amazing it is. "It's Always Sunny ..." and "30 Rock" would take up SO much time with all the episodes, no matter how good they are (I've never seen IASIP and won't start at this point because I could die before I finish watching all the episodes of that show at this point).

HeyHeyJK

Also I just recently ran across a new reaction channel called Movie Night Reactions - only a few episodes and not many subscribers right now - but they're from the UK and the girl's name is Jamie, and she pronounces it just like Jamie Tart does his name and it cracks me up.

Joits

I don't know if they've seen The Good Place but after Ted Lasso is over, that would be a great show to react to that's a perfect counter to Breaking Bad or The Wire

FigLeaf Bicarbonate

Does anyone know when Breaking Bad is back? Thanks in advance.

Kate Zimmerman

Yes on Magnolia, and the soundtrack, by Aimee Mann and produced by Jon Brion, is still one of my favorite albums of all time.

John Stam

simone is adorable and I just want to give her a hug

Jonny

Wish you did each episode Into YT edits, accumulates more views.

Jeff I.

I'm sure they will in a couple of months or so. They did it for the first season after they finished on here, and it did well for views on YT.

JoeE

Don’t know if you’ve seen them but other shows I would recommend are

JoeE

midnight mass, the good place, bojack horseman

Maarten Martens

I have a mixed relationship with the show, there are things I absolutely love (looking at you Roy), and some things that cringe the living daylights out of me (adults behaving like children and vice versa). I can see why the pandemic made this show into the praised phenomenon it is, but I keep hoping for more characters to show up that have a little more depth. It's like having a Scrubs episode with 8 Todds running around. They are funny, but 1 or 2 is enough. Maybe I shouldn't compare it to Scrubs, but it's just that Bill Lawrence's name got me watching it and I really want to like it, but I'm not fully into it yet. Does anybody else have this feeling after the start of season 2? And does the series stay in this vibe or are there big changes ahead. I think I'd like to know so I can mentally prepare myself for it. One thing is definitely true though, watching it along with Simone and George makes this a lot more fun to watch!

Glass (+ the Machines of God)

No, it's not weird to call a superstition something you need to fix... another term for superstition is "irrational fear".... they're NOT REAL!!!

Shelly D

Just mentioning a comment about Sharon. I've seen quite a few people indicate that instead of creating a friendship that Ted would see as a foundation of a work relationship, she is setting boundaries and is focused more on a colleague relationship. It's how she maintains professionalism. Additionally, I wanted to bring up what you both mentioned about Ted's personality. That his enthusiasm and positive 'disarming' attitude is absolutely ok as long as he doesn't expect the other person to match his energy. Ted is expecting Sharon to match his enthusiasm for getting to know one another, but she is more focused on helping her patients and is there to do a job. I can absolutely see and respect people's aversion to her, because it can for sure come off as rude, but I do understand her perspective.

Amelie W

Dr Sharon might be a teleporting wizard, or maybe we're seeing a picture of her sort of filtered through Ted's therapy-phobic perception and she's not really that rude.
