Look forward to the reaction. Also my brother and I had the same deal with Fievel Goes West - no clue it was a sequel until our late teens lol

JayF

The Rawhide song is from a very old TV show originally. Here's the opening to the show. If you pay attention you may recognize the second guy they do a close up on. He's kinda famous. ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_rHrLHIeyI

NICKWEAKASS

Really hope you react to split!!!

JoshG

We need split!

JayF

Simone mentioning conspiracy theories made me remember the movie Conspiracy Theory (1997) which you definitely need to watch. Great performance by Mel Gibson with one scene in particular that is my favorite bit of acting by him.

Greymond

Fievel Goes West and The Secret of NIMH were some of my favorite movies as a kid. The voice of Dom DeLuise is forever seared into my brain.

Florian Geyer

I hop Split and Glass will be next :)

Mark D

Yes Split is a must watch because of the amazing performance by James Mcavoy.

Logan Kerlee

This is going to be a great reaction! :)

Hans Czajkowski Jørgensen

As to why Glass revealed to David that he was responsible for all the gruesome killings. I speculate that Glass wants to be more than a lonely, broken man in a wheelchair. He wants to be an archvillain. Have a higher purpose informed by the mythological perspective on the world afforded him by the comics. But does one become an archvillain if nobody recognises you as such? He needs to tell David in order to be seen as more than the broken man in the wheelchair, and to cement what he sees as a relationship with David that makes him an archvillain. Glass is really reaching out to David to not be lonely and miserable. To have an archenemy who knows him, and a purpose.

Tay Schumaker

Split was a real back door/secret sequel. You pretty much have no idea it’s a sequel till the end and that moment blew me away. But of course, now that’s all out there. Split is really great. I never saw Glass despite moving the first two cause I’ve heard it’s bad

Garin

Haven't even watched this yet but I'm so hyped for Split. Please add it to a future poll

beefjerkywizard

Happy face tattoo on my upper arm. I probably wouldn't get it again but it was first one and I thought I was so rebellious. I still like it though.

Shane Driscoll

That ending smacks of the Simpsons episode that wraps up with a voiceover saying, "And then the children were saved by, oh, let's say... Moe."

Martin

Definitely need to finish the trilogy. Split is terrific.

djKENTO

Do they need to FINISH it? Orrr do they just need to watch Split which is great and walk away like M Night should have instead of ruining it with that dog water 3rd film. Also with what we know about Bruce now? I’d rather not see him slog his way through this. This was one of the first films where he had his lines fed to him by ear piece and you can tell now. It’s so sad.

AzraRillian

The thing about the second film is that a lot of people didn't know it was a sequel until afterward. If i recall correctly it, it was never marketed as a sequel, so most (that I knew of) just went to watch it because it had James McAvoy in it, and he was praised for his role in it.

djKENTO

Regarding the Avatar show… The OG show creators started working on it with Netflix and go so frustrated that they left that project, went back to Paramount and started an Avatar Studios production company for new animated features and shows. I basically have no faith that will be good either now.

Adam Wetstein

Yes it amazing that it only Simone realized that MNS intended to make the worst Airbender movie was a twist. She a genius

Paul Davey

M. Night's take on the movie was - what if you took the first act of a superhero origin story (the first third where the superhero discovers they're a superhero) and stretched that out to a full movie. - It's disappointing you know there's a sequel because audiences were not supposed to know that going in. However, having said that: what is the second act of a superhero origin story always about...?

Shibby

This is one of my all time favourite movies. The first sequel Split is also excellent and I would love to see a reaction to it. The 2nd sequel Glass I have only seen once and it wasn't as good as I hoped, but could be worth watching to finish the story.

Martin Nicholls

You're probably right about the text - it's a trilogy, but when you watch it with no third movie in sight, it doesn't make a lot of sense as an ending.

Vert

The song is the theme to Rawhide =)

Logan Kerlee

Okay - so my response to the reaction has a sizeable gap because I just got wrapped into the movie. xD I really like this one. :) lmao, that's a silly comment. xD hahahahaha, I 1000% get that vibe from you Simone! You're great. lol, and no George you aren't controlling. Yeesh, people get some funky ass ideas. Very happy for your new tattoo and future ideas, Simone! Me, personally, no I don't have any tattoos. I'd be down to get one but but just never did. LOVE THE JACKASS STORIES GEORGE!! hahahaha, that's so awesome! You guys ever watch CKY? I really enjoyed those guys' quite a bit. :) Pine-cone on a stick, Simone? lmao, you're great Simone! This movie's damn good, you two! I'm sure you'll both enjoy this. Has creepy vibes for sure but also some damn cool elements. YUP, you got that right Simone! :) The first of the trilogy. :) lmao, The Last Airbender was SO TERRIBLE! I went to watch that garbage in theaters, too! xD lmao, Simone! That twist is something that I'd expect from him. ARE YOU READY FOR THE TRUTH, GEORGE? SIMONE? xD I've read a good number of comics in my life! Yeah! This movie starts out strange. It'll all make sense Simone, don't worry. Yeah.. Bruce Willis' character, David isn't the most respectable guy at the start of this. He warms up on ya though, don't worry. Love the little girl's disapproving eyes. Yeah - that's a baaad wreck! David though comes out unscathed. And yup, the title's accurate. Did you two pick up on the rocky marriage at the start? The hand hold bit ended awkwardly and quick. Not realizing that you're never sick - yeah, it's something that you never notice. The $40 pay bump may seem small now and where you live but at the time this was made $40 pay bump is something noticeable for sure. lmao, proud of you Simone! xD He is NOT Fresh Prince. And yup, you got it George! He's super fragile. That mom is super respectable. Someone that I've got mountains of respect for, as a disabled man. He works in security. Sort of surprised neither of you reacted after he said that. HUGE respect to M. Night for that, yeah! I 100% relate with the stairs scene. I've fallen down a good few staircases in my life and it's always terrifying. When you're disabled stairs are the enemy, plain and simple. 350's a good bit for sure - but it isn't that remarkable. Though, a guy like David lifting that much repeatedly is insane. lmao, we sure can George! xD lmao, yup. Hawaii Five-0 was a show about cops. I'm not familiar with Tombstone off the top of my head. I'll have to look into the character after this movie. lmao, well he is in a raincoat, George! xD I'm glad you both enjoyed this! This movie's VERY dark but also super cool. Yeah - no, this is the beginning of the trilogy. Split and Glass separate a good bit from this - so please don't go into it expecting more like this. Split is filmed 16 years later and it shows. Great watches, the both of them. :)

Logan Kerlee

I'm all for your enthusiasm for Split! That one's definitely worth a watch but yeah, the sequel to it - Glass, is pretty weak. I'd watch but only if it won a poll, obviously.

Tall Paul

Starring a young Clint Eastwood. A Fistful of Dollars would be a fun reaction.

Rasmus Larsen

The cinematography of this movie is stunning to me. A lot of pivotal scenes are done with very, very few cuts, and by the end almost every frame could be redrawn into a striking panel in a comic book. "What if heroes, but real" isn't an original take by any means, but the way it was presented here is entirely believable, hopeful, and yet remains grounded while avoiding the cynical trap of a property like The Boys. Shyamalan's best work by a country mile in my opinion.

Prof. Writhms

Please look into these movies, also with unique spins on people with super powers. “Chronicle” (2012) “Brightburn” (2019)

Odd Thomas

One of Shyamalan's best for sure. The Village next please; it's one of my all-time favourite films.

Molecule

Didn't hate Glass as much as most people (saw it twice back in 2019) but would love to see how you two react to that given you haven't experienced M. Night's career in real-time thus having no hype surrounding the release of a follow-up. Actually on this rewatch of Unbreakable, there's a line in here that clears something up for me in a future installment.

Steve Arnold

Funny that George didn‘t recognize Spencer Treat Clark (Joseph Dunn) as the boy (Lucius) from „Gladiator“. „Split“ has a great performance by James McAvoy, which makes it really worth watching. „Glass“ however, isn‘t that good.

Odd Thomas

Willis and Jackson had already made two movies together: Pulp Fiction and Die Hard with a Vengeance (which is the best Die Hard imo and you really need to play catch up on that franchise as 1-4 are all good. 5 not so much)

REDR58

I utterly loathe Glass. I would almost say, don’t watch it. It’s such a horrible, horrible ending. I can’t believe it turned out of the way it did and I can’t say more about why here because it would spoil everything! He could’ve gone about any other way than he did but he had to go that way and it just ruined the movie for me. Honestly, I would stop with Split.

REDR58

I had no idea at the time, and I saw Split in theaters. But as soon as the music started near the end of the movie, I knew something good was coming. Unfortunately what came was horrifying.

Matt Gwinn

Split and Glass are both good, but not as good as Unbreakable. Unbreakable might be the best superhero origin film. Someone else mentioned Chronicle which is also good, but I'd rather see you react to a series like season 1 of Heroes or Invincible.

REDR58

For a fun action movie that stars Samuel L Jackson as the main character, check out “Big Game” from 2014. He plays the president of the US who somehow gets lost in Finland!

King_Panarisi

Lets hope you'll do Split and Glass soon

Logan Kerlee

Heroes has my FULL support! I love that show so much. Getting a fresh rewatch would be nice and it's always feels good introducing shows that I love/loved with others. :) Invincible's a good one but I'm not nearly as hype about that one. How many seasons did Invincible get? I don't remember.

Logan Kerlee

Chronicle? lol, I'm from Seattle area and that movie just rubs me the wrong way. I'd be down to watch Brightburn though.

John

I agree Die Hard with a Vengeance is a great movie and wonderful addition to the series. Willis and Jackson have great on screen chemistry. I would agree it's worth returning to the Die Hard series my ranking for what is worth is (1,3,2,4) I never saw 5.

Guillermo Antonio Ricci Alvarez

I hope you haven't read comments yet, you are not supposed to know the first sequel's name...just like how they promote it and everything and no person knew it was a sequel until we saw it

akaTheBARON

🖤"The real agents are the editors we meet along the way" - Simone. (not even close to what she actually said but turning quotes into a "friends we made along the way" vibe has become a mainstay)

akaTheBARON

🖤Split is for sure a must-watch. As for Glass, can't say I still haven't seen it but it seems to be meh from those who have. But Jimmy Mac is SOOOO good in Split. (I call him Jimmy, we're cool like that).

Jameson Yates

Mr. Glass "confessed" because he wanted his life of suffering to mean something. He used comic books as a means to escape his life as a child. He latched on to them then made them the entirety of his character so confessing to the super hero was his way of validating his life as a comic book supervillain. "Without evil there can be no good so it must be good to be evil some time!" -Satan, South Park

Saifu

Hope Split reaction is coming soon!!

Shane Driscoll

The puddle scene is one of the most unintentionally hilarious scenes I've ever seen in any film.

DinChild

M. Night wrote Unbreakable and Split around the same time. They shared similar quality writing in that sense. Glass was the cash grab, and written by post-Air Bender M. Night. Also, knowing that Split is the sequel to Unbreakable works so much better when you don't know they're related. :-) Oh well!

Gary Fixler

The weight thing happened to me. For no particular reason, I'm very strong in bench and squat, and absurdly weak in curls and anything else pulling toward me. It's like all my pull muscles are on the same side as my push muscles, so I'm amazing at one, and horrendous in the other. I got a personal trainer a long time ago, in my mid 20s, having been a completely sedentary computer nerd for years before that. My trainer was excited that I had thick wrists and ankles. He said "You're gonna be a monster!" and I said "No, no... I want to be in good shape, like a volleyball player." "You're gonna be huge!" I said "Not interested!" Anyway, he did this to me. I'd walk around cooling off between bench sets, and he'd secretly add weights, and I wouldn't notice. I think we started around 120, way below my body weight, and after a few weeks, he'd raised me to somewhere around 280, and I never noticed a difference. I thought we were just doing reps for fitness, still down at 150, because he always had me do 3 sets of 10, and he'd yell to push me to do a few more to wear me out. He finally burst out laughing one day, and said "Dude! I've been adding weights after every set for weeks. You've seriously never noticed? You're gonna be a monster!" (Note: I'm not. I didn't stick with it, and I've been sitting at a computer ever since.) I never looked, nor cared. I'm not into things like sportsball or weights. He didn't try to hide it on the incline press machine. The first time we went to that one, a few weeks in, he put the pin about 3/4 down, and said "Try that." Easy. He kept moving it down, till it hit the bottom, then started adding rubber weights to the top, then got more from other machines, then leaned his body weight at a 45° angle on the stack, so I was lifting him, too, and I could chat with him normally while doing 10 reps. It was wild, and almost made me want to become a power lifter, just because it's nice to be good at something, but I'm just too lazy. Also, I worked out with 2 other guys in our group, and they were so much tinier than I was, no muscle mass, both nerds, and they could curl 2-3x what I could do, and whoop my butt on the butterfly machine, leg curls, anything pulling in. It would be weird to be a power lifter who only does 2 events. It kinda made sense to me, though. I'm a supreme loner. I'm very good at pushing everything away from myself :) Oh, and I'm not unbreakable. As a fat person, I often hurt myself - throw out my back, hurt something random in my foot, etc, just walking around.

Jesse Coombs

Fievel Goes West is fun, but it isn't as good as An American Tail. But both are not as good as an earlier Don Bluth movie, "The Secret of Nimh", which is kind of amazing.

JayF

Yes, 5-0 is a reference to Hawaii Five-0 but not the newer version you were aware of. Gangs started referring to the cops as 5-0 as a result of the original show which aired in the 1970s. Here's the beginning theme. You will definitely want to pay attention to the credits as there is a surprise for you there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpxJsy8nfjA

T__K8

As others have said, Split is definitely worth a watch. M Night Shyamalan had a pretty historically bad run of films from 2008-2013, and so, at least personally, there wasn't a huge amount of excitement on what seemed like just a small budget thriller. I don't think i'd have given it much thought at the time without James McAvoy's casting in it.

Opti_Frog

This is the first time i've rewatched Unbreakable in 23 years, and i still think it's pretty dour and boring with a weak ending. Also, it's basically just The Sixth Sense all over again with a comic book flavour instead of ghosts. I don't hate it like i hate Signs and The Village, but my tolerance for M. Night Shyamalan seems to be even lower than most. 😅

Haye Zeus

How dare Simone say that Fievel Goes West is better. Blasphemy! Unsubscribed. Turning off my internet connection. Going outside and reading a book forever

REDR58

Simone and George, got to respectfully disagree about the length of time between first movies and sequels being any mark of quality or lack thereof. Plenty of movies have excellent sequels that come out just a few years after (all of the newer Planet of the Apes movies for example) and bad sequels can come long after the first movie (The 2 most recent Indiana Jones movies coming out years after the first 3 for example).

akaTheBARON

🖤That's totally true about the not knowing about them being connected but that seems like it was a "get it while it's hot" sort of reveal. It worked while Split was in theaters but since I've seen those two movies (and all three when Glass came out) marketed together. Some plot twits just can't stand the test of time when it comes to marketing I guess. I've seen DVD/Blu-rays of Unbreakable and Split sold together as double features as they tend to do with sequels and trilogies. Also seen them air back-to-back-to-back on premium movie channels too. Split sort of stands on its own in a lot of ways anyway and personally, I wasn't too blown away when I watched it and saw how they were connected. Peaked my interest but wasn't blown away. So at least they didn't lose out too much going into Split already knowing it's a low-key sequel. I wonder how many people saw Split in theaters without ever seeing Unbreakable and being confused by... well I'll leave it at that LOL.

Middy

I haven't watched this reaction yet, but it's good to know Simone is on the right side of history.

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

You should def watch the other 2...both are very good imo...Split is my favorite

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

I would love if you watch the other M. Night stuff..some hate on him but it just became a cool thing to hate on him for awhile..and I think a lot of his catalog is over criticized...to ea their own of course...I personally enjoyed The Village, The Visit, Old even though some hate on them... also loved Knock at the Cabin (based on a book I loved..they changed ending which usually pisses me off but I could understand what they did w it)...hope all these get a watch along w the other 2 of this trilogy

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

Bad run of films is a matter of opinion..I enjoyed many of those that were over criticized...it became cool to hate on him..it was overdone and people still seem to take it as gospel that everyone hated those films...when plenty of us enjoyed them

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

I loved The Village as well..nice to see someone else who does..it gets so much over the top hate..just because at the time it was cool to hate on his work... I do think the way the studio marketed the film at the time was part of the issue...they did M Night no favors..but I think it is a great film

Chase Schleich

I'd definitely recommend The Village. The only issue would be George figuring out the twist 30 minutes into the movie and being exactly right lol

Chase Schleich

Oh and The Happening just because their reaction to it would be great to see. Sometimes it's fun to do a bad movie.

Jacob King

I’m a big fan of this movie and enjoyed your reaction even if you (sort of) recognised the twist quite early. For those of us who saw it at the cinema there was a lot more surprise because it wasn’t signposted in the marketing and superheroes were not nearly as common and tended to be a lot sillier back then. Split is barely a sequel and as others have pointed out was a comeback movie after a whole string of disasters including The Last Airbender so linking it back to an early success is as much about marketing as it was about building a franchise. Do not expect any characters or themes or even genre to link it back to Unbreakable and you’ll enjoy it a lot more. It’s a good movie even if there is one scene I always fast forward. It is only with the third movie that they retroactively become a trilogy.

Ricardo Alanis

Some people really shit on The Village but I think it’s a great flick in line with his earlier work. I do recommend it.

Patrick

I love how much of Northern American pop culture George knows, simply from watching the Simpsons haha

Brendan Rafferty

George… You are correct in your guess that the end title card on the screen, explaining how Dunn alerts the FBI, was added AFTER test screenings. It’s a shame because leaving it with Dunn walking away, broken and defeated, as Elijah basks in his victory was such a better ending. Also… Ignore the so-called sequels as those were lame afterthoughts

Patrick

There's a lot of things you can do with brittle bones disease. You can even fly a spaceship between Mass Relays.

p0sthum4n

I do in fact know what Simone is talking about re: Feivel Goes West, but for us young Jews, An American Tail was always special. 🎶There are no cats in America, and the streets are paved with cheese 🐭🎶

Shpadow

Honestly? This movie, watching it again, has some of the best camera work in cinema. Using everyday objects for setting and framing a scene and then letting the scene breath is genius. Moreso that there's so little motion used and where it is, it's very deliberate. Here's a fun tidbit: When the train starts to accelerate, the camera is specifically on the window to show the scenery moving more quickly and the sound of the train itself - the wheels and seams between rails and the horn - start to change and intensify. Then, in those few frames before the scene changes, the window goes a very pale blue, which means the movement of his head is in slow motion and the car just *overturned* so his window is now facing the sky.

punterjoe

Wow! How does Simone know the theme from "Rawhide"? - a 1950s/60s western starring Clint Eastwood - very much like something out of Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. 🤯

Eric Santiago

I've got a massive laugh tattooed on my chest. I still dig it, but every now and then, I second-guess myself ahahaha If my English is bad, blame the translator

jmundt33a

The actual sequel to this (if there’d been one) should have been released around the time Die Hard 4 or Lucky Number Slevin were. Slevin is an excellent and fun movie with a solid cast. I hope it makes your movie poll someday.

BangDroid

Okay so I hope you know that means you have to watch American Tail and Fievel Goes West. I haven't seen them in probably over 25 years and would love to watch along!

WastedPo

I would like it if you continue with Split. (And even "Glass," though that one got more criticism.) The thing to PLEASE remember is that when Split was released, it was marketed as just a standalone story, with no relation to Unbreakable. And indeed, it largely is a story that stands on its own. So try to go into it with a fresh mind and just see it as a separate movie. I saw another reactor that was constantly distracted throughout "Split," making repeated references to Unbreakable, as if he were waiting for Bruce Willis to show up every other moment. I think it kind of tainted his experience.

Bryan Barton

Yeah Split is worth watching just for James McAvoy's acting chops alone, he was excellent. When it was released, the audience wasn't supposed to go in to it knowing it existed in the Unbreakable universe, but that was 7 years ago so the cats out of the bag on that one.

Logan Kerlee

Random question: Anybody on here watching or planning to watch Monarch: Legacy of Monsters?

MasterElodin

I really really hope you dont forget about this trilogy and do Split soon. Its also very original and I cant wait to see your take on it :) Also what the others have been saying, McAvoys acting in that movie is absolutely insane.

Jay Davis

I just had a random thought after they laughed about M. Night appearing in another movie. It would be pretty funny/cool if Quentin Tarantino did the cameo in M. Night Shyamalan's movie and vice versa.

Drew

Regarding the “agent” thing at the intro, I never got that impression with this channel. But the are DEFINITELY channels where I get the vibe that some guy is corralling pretty gals to populate one or more nearly identical channels
